Map IDs to Destinations in PDF output - Possible?

I've searched for whether this can be done from Robohelp but all my queries are matching the FM Named Destinations to PDF, which I know how to use, but is not the particular goal.  It seems there should be a way to convert MapIDs in RH to Destinations in PDF but I have not found anything that indicate the Printed Doc Single Source workflow supports this. I'm probably missing something obvious. :/

You can set up tags so that the build only includes say TagX. http://www.grainge.org/pages/authoring/build_expressions/expressions.htm
The other way is to build a TOC that only has the topics you want and an index that only references them etc, then use the Exclude Unreferenced Topics option. Any topic not referenced in the TOC, Index, links etc will be excluded.

  • Grayscale pdf output possible?

How do you output a grayscale pdf from InDesign?
I know of outputting it from ID and bringing it into Acrobat and Converting to the Gray Gamma profile.
Or printing it from ID using the Composite Gray color setting as a Postscript file and then running it through Distiller.
I am looking for a one-step process to do it from InDesign. Do you know of another way?
    Cheers,

Right, it's a problem in Snow Leopard. It looked to me as if you were answering the question of what method to use in Snow Leopard, and print to PS is problematic. For that matter, the result is the same if you print to PS and distill or do it in one step by printing to PDF if you use the same settings, so unless you use a watched folder for distiller, I can't see any reason to use two steps.

  • Removing the Pound Sign in MAP IDs

We want to use MAP IDs in our Web Help output in order to
bring up the correct document for each screen. The MAP IDs are
based on the screen names, which makes things pretty easy for the
developers. This is the code for calling the desired screen:
    http://www.company.com/help/help_csh.htm#topicId=TOPIC,withnavpane.
Is there ANY WAY (like with javascript or some other magical
thing) we can change the pound sign (#) to a question mark (?) and
still bring up the correct page? We're hoping there is something we
can do in RoboHelp so we don't have to drag a bunch of developers
    into it.
Any suggestions you have would be greatly appreciated.

    Hello bgatch,
I do not believe that there is a way to do what you are
after. I suspect the better question is why do you want to replace
the # with a ? in the first place? Hopefully, once we understand
the workflow a bit better, we can come up with a better answer for
    you.

  • Is PDF output of more than one reports region with Apache FOP possible?

    Hi,
I'm evaluating the possibilities of PDF output by means of the Apache FOP. I've installed the standalone OC4J, deployed the fop.war and configured my APEX 3.2 installation according to the various guides I found. Now I can generate PDF output of a reports region.
I will have APEX pages containing more than one reports region. Is it possible to generate a PDF document of the whole page, not just of the individual reports regions? If so, then how?
    Thanks,
    Robert
On a sidenote: Does anyone know where I can find the licensing model and fees for the standalone OC4J? They don't seem to be included in the [price list|http://www.oracle.com/corporate/pricing/technology-price-list.pdf].

  • Best way to produce PDF output from Classic ASP

I have Adobe Professional 9.2 and LiveCycle ES Designer 8.1. I need to change a Classic ASP web application to produce a PDF report. The way I see it I have three options:
    1) create native PDF output using open source libraries.
    2) create an FDF form with Adobe Pro as a template and use FDF libraries from Adobe to substitute text in the template
    3) create an XML form with LiveCycle as a template and do direct text substitution into the XML.
I created a PDF with LiveCycle and prior to saving, unchecked the "save PDF files compressed" in tools/options. I don't want any text boxes, just labels, and in some of the labels I will put distinguishable text. When the web application uses the template it will find various text strings in the XML stream and substitute.
What's the best way to do this? Is there a better way of doing substitution into the LiveCycle template? I would like to stay with LiveCycle. But from code samples I've seen, FDF substitution is very straightforward and possibly easier. I also thought LiveCycle is supposed to be the way to go instead of Adobe Pro. Thanks

I cannot speak about theother methods but I can speak about the XFA method. In most cases people will bind the xml to the rawValue property of the field thereby filling the field with the value. However there are other bindable properties. Caption is one of them. first you have to turn on the Dynamic Properties. Click on th efield you want to control on on the Object palette click the icon as shown below:
A new menu will open like this:
Turn that option on and the Caption will turn a different color and will become a link. Click on the link and then you can map the caption to a node in your XML structure. This assumes that you have created a Data Connection to bind with.

  • Central 5.5 hanging/stuck while producing PDF output

    Hi
We have been using Central 5.5 has been in use 3+ yrs with 80+ designs producing output to Printer & PDF. Generally speaking things are OK. Recently we have encountered a problem whereby Central appears to be hanging and it has been when processing a .dat to produce a PDF. the problem does not always occur so its hard to pinpoint the problem.
I have reported the problem to Adobe VAR & Adobe for their support, meanwhile I would appreciate if any forum users could advise as to possible causes of the problems we are encountering.
the following is the problem description - probably best to start at bottom of this posting and work up thru the mails
    thanks in advance

User site are encountering an intermittent problem on the JF Server, first occurred 29/10 and then occurred yesterday and today
They tell me it seems to be specific to one particular IFD/Design when its used to create a PDF output file. It does not fail each time that the IFD/Design is used.
Typically when they get errors with .dat .IFD mismatches etc. a file would be created in /error/ and the next file in /data/ would be processed, but in this instance the JF Server is freezing intermittently - when processing particular files - no files created/posted to the /error/ directory
User site identify the problem file by filename of lowest sequence no. / date-time stamp - they then remove the file from the /data directory and then stop and start the JF service to get going again. When they put the offending .dat back in /data then it fails again, however if they copy the file creating copy_of_filename.dat and put copy_of_filename.dat in /data then the copied file processes ok !!!
could there be something funny about the original file, some sort of byte corruption that is resolved when the file is copied/saved again.
have you ever experienced anything like this ?
User site get an error message on the JF server when the problem file causes the hang/stuck service - its the most immediate e-mail below - there is a complete snail on this problem staring at the bottom of this mail working back up.
Do Adobe have any information regarding problems that could cause the JF Server to hang/freeze.
Have you any thoughts/suggestions - could you forward this problem to Adobe
Additionally, could any problem arise if McAfee Anti-Virus On-Access scan is turned "ON" on the JF Server, could there be any conflict of McAffee and JF both accessing a file at same time.

From a user perspective, when they look in the JF-data directory there could be one or a no. of files present. It would be the earliest of these files that is causing the problem, that JF is failing to process/merge the earliest of the dat files, and the server throws an error.

When the "problematic" dat file is removed from the data directory the other files process OK.
There are approx 100 different Designs/forms being produced and these could be either printer or PDF outputs. Remote users of the application receive PDF outputs.
The Design/MDF file in question has not changed in recent months.
The Design/Form where the problem occurs would be used a no. of times every day, on same day both ealier and later documents produced OK for the same form. This would therefore indicate that the cause of the problem is specific to the .dat file, that the file is either corrupted or that some value in the .dat is causing the problem.
Each dat file for PDF generates a new unique PDF filename to be created, to ensure destination-output pdf filename does not already exist on the jfserver.
The problematic dat file was copied to another machine and the following scenarios tested:-
    1) one of the data field values was changed, the file saved and then re-submitted to the JFserver, the problem still occurred.
    2) amended the job line to just change the destination pdf filename, the file then re-submitted to the JFserver and the problem did not occur, PDF produced OK.
    3) without changing the destination pdf filename, amended the job line to include the logging commands -v-10 -n0 , the file then re-submitted to the JFserver and the problem did not occur, PDF produced OK.
This seems to indicate that by making a change to the JOB line and saving the file and resubmitting that it works OK.
System is printing hundreds and sometimes thousands of documents per day and this problem occurs only occasionally, all very strange.
I have been reluctant to turn on the logging commands -v-10 -n0 fulltime for all the forms as I rekon this may result in an overhead on the JFserver while may affect the production time of documents and have a negative impact on users if print production time is noticably slower.
I also have available the log file produced with the increased verbosity, but this is from a successful production of the pdf.
(I can make this available - e-mail me on [email protected]).
Any suggestions on cause/identification of this problem appreciated
    thanks

  • PDF output from RH9 WebHelp

I am asked to publish some WebHelp content as PDF prior to the infrastructure being available to publish WebHelp.
My wish is to publish it as PDF but not with a "Printed documentation" look. I want to create a PDFthat looks like Web pages. What is the best way to do this?
My thought is to publish to Word, then tweak and then save as PDF.
In RH 9 , what tools are available for creating a good-looking HTML output from Word?

Thank you Peter. I don't need the PDF output to look exactly like my HTML (even if it were possible, which it isn't). But I want the PDF output to be in a style of presentation optimised for online reading and navigating (rather than printing). There seem to be a number of limitations with both the template and the CSS approach.
For example, I can force the page size and orientation of the PDF output by modifying the style map template. But some settings don't seem to come across: headers, footers, two-column layout. It seems that RH9 overrides these settings when it produces its "print" output. So the clean-up tasks post-generation render this effort impractical in cases where the source files will be changing frequently. I suppose a clever macro writer could automate the cleanup tasks, but I don't happen to have one at my disposal.

  • Animated GIF in PDF output

    Hi all,
is it possible to hand an animated GIF to the PDF output (remaining animated)?
FM10 and AcrobatX work together rather fine concerning other animation formats such as SWF or AVI. I am not sure however wether the PDF format supports animated GIFs at all.

As a side, I've never ever got an embedded avi to covert to pdf.  I do it all in the pdf.

  • Barcode printing in XML report PDF output

    Hi All,
I want to print barcode of invoice number / purchase order number in the XML report PDF output.
Anyone please suggest me with your ideas and experience.

    Hi Bogdan,
The steps mentioned in the doc is what i did in order.
    I couldn't understand the step # 13 & 14.
Log in as XML Publisher Administrator
Navigate to Administration --> Font Files --> Create Font File
Available fields are Font Name and File
--> for Font Name, choose any descriptive name
--> file will browse your PC to locate the font file
Navigate to Font Mappings -->Create Font Mapping Set
Mapping name is the name you will give to a set of fonts.
Mapping code is the internal name you will give to this set
Type: 'PDF Form' for PDF templates. 'FO to PDF' for all other template types.
Create Font Mapping (this allows you to add fonts to a set)
Font Family is the exact same name you see in MS Word under Font. If you don't use the same name the font will not be picked up at runtime.
Style and weight must also match how you use the font in the RTF or PDF layout template. Normal and Normal are good defaults.
Language and Territory should remain blank (NULL) unless you have a strong business reason, as these fields can cause the font not to be picked up at runtime.
Navigate to Configuration General -> FO Processing -->Font Mapping Set. This can also be done at Data Definition and Template level, via the corresponding Edit Configuration button on those pages. The hierarchy is Site-> Data Def -> Template.
    Select your new mapping set.
Make sure the font is not referenced under File --> Properties --> Custom in the RTF template file.
Under General, set a Temporary Directory. The font will be stored under a /fonts directory at runtime, initially created the first time the font is used.
Upload a template that uses your special font and test using preview or by submitting a concurrent request.

  • Oracle Report, How to Display Polish Characters in a PDF Output

    Environment :
Oracle Application Server version 10.1.2.0.2 on Red Hat 4 Enterprise (Kernel 2.6.9-42.0.3 , 32 bit) Oracle Database Version 10.2.0.3.0 Our character set of database is UTF8
I have trouble to display polish characters in Reports Output. We develop on Windows XP machines. I can see the Polish Caharacters in the Reports Builder using several fonts (arial, arial unicode, Times new roman, verdana...) during design time or when running with the paper layout. But when the report deployed to application server running on the linux, the polish characters are replaced by symbols.
Even under Windows, when I select 'generate to a PDF' file option, the characters are not displayed correctly (When I open the generated PDF file with Acrobat reader and go to Document Properties / Fonts, I see the Fonts are always replaced with Adobe Sans MM)
Using the Forms Applications running on the same application server we have no trouble dealing/displaying with the characters (Ąą ĆćĘę Ł ł ŃńÓóŚ ś Ź ź Ż ż ß Đ đ € )
NLS_LANG setting is AMERICAN_AMERICA.UTF8 on the Linux Box and AMERICAN_AMERICA.WE8MSWIN1250 is on the Development machines. (have tried a number of different NLS_LANG settings on the development box as well with no luck).
    Any direction would be appreciated.

    Hi,
You have several different approaches to fix this problem. First of all, you would be able to generate the PDF output with Font Subsetting setup and be able to see the Polish characters correctly when running the output with destype=cache&desformat=pdf. The following metalink documents would guide you with this setup :
Note.207711.1 "How to Use Font Subsetting in Reports 9i and 10g for PDF Output"
As at design time you use many different Windows specific fonts, I also advice you to check the following document :
Note.356221.1 "A Practical Methodology on Porting Reports from Windows to Unix with Different Fonts"
Once the PDF output is generated properly with correct characters, then if you need to use "destype=printer" for direct print, rather than "destype=cache" to display the output in browser, then you can use the "PDFPrint" pluggable destination, which is located in :

  • Error in generating PDF output

Whenever, I generate a PDF output, RH goes through the process but displays an error message stating that the file_name.pdf is not found. It did the same thing when I tried generating a PDF of a sample project as well. Any pointers on how to resolve this issue?

I am just trying to see where there could be a problem. When you generate a PDF from RoboHelp a temporary Word file is automatically created in the background from which the PDF is created. What I was trying to get you to check was whether the problem is with the PDF creation or somewhere else. If you go through the same process to create a PDF but deselect the PDF creation option BUT select the Word creation option, a Word file will be created. If that works, it will have exactly the same fonts, styles as the PDF would if you can create it.
I am also a bit unsure what you mean. It sounds like you are generating a Word file, then changing the fonts and styles in Word. Why not just make sure that your fonts, styles in RoboHelp are correct and then just map these to your Word template when creating the Word file. Peter Grainge has some excellent tips on this on his site. It is well worth a read.

  • Hide URL in PDF output in hyperlink , Maintain History within reports

    hi
i have some issues to discuss for report output in pdf format.
we are using java application to call reports via AS 10g, my issue are
    1) Hide URL in PDF output for hyperlink created.(Using username/password in Key is not enough)
    2) Maintain history as i call second report from my parent report then i want to go back to parent report.(Note here go.history or history.go(-1) work in HTML output format but not in PDF)
3)To Call Child PDF report in new window(here again working fine target="_blank" for HTML output but not for PDF)
    regards
    abid

    Hi Ram,
Not sure if this is possible.
However, one workaround might be the following:
    1. Write a javascript that submits the URL using, say a POST method, and does not show the parameters in the URL. You will have to write this javascript code in the "Before Report" Report Escape. For a generic example on how to use javascript in a report, see Metalink Note 125652.1. This note shows javascript to disable the right-click of the mouse on the report output.
    2. Use the Hyperlink peroperty of the report to call this javascript function, eg,
    javascript:myfunction('http://machine:port/reports/rwservlet?report=...+server=...+empno=&empno')
I am not a javascript expert, so I cannot give you an example of the function, but I hope someone in your team can find out.

  • Some of Chinese character is not displaying correctly in PDF output

    Hi all
I'm involved in the 1st Peoplesoft project in Korea and having a difficulty with displaying Chinese character in PDF output.
Usually Koreans can translate their name in Chinese and that Chinese name is displayed in personal information in their company as well as Korean name.
With Oracle BI Publisher I made rtf template that includes employees' Chinese name and tried to export to PDF output.
Most of Chinese character was fine but '李' character that was ok in HTM output was crashed in PDF output.
So I researched and tested some solutions.
    Here's what I did.
I downloaded and installed five fonts(ALBANWTS.ttf, ALBANWTT.ttf, ALBANWT.ttf, ALBANWTK.ttf, ALBANWTJ.ttf) in client machine(c:\windows\fonts\) and did mapping job with xdo.cfg configuration file.
After that I previewed PDF output in the rtf template and checked embeded fonts in the PDF file.
I can see the newly installed font was embeded but still '李' character is crashed.
My problem is little bit different from others becuase only one Chinese character is crashed by for now.
The Chinese character '李' is very common last name in Korea and I believe Simplified Chinese character font have in it.
Please let me know if you have any solutions or experiance.
    Thanks and best regards

It's possible to add such Hyperlinks to the pdf-Output of a report.
With use of the built-in rw.set_hyperlink('hyperlink') in a format trigge you can realize that. "hyperlink" is for example then something like:
    '/reports/rwservlet?destype=cache&desformat=pdf&report=drilldetail.jsp&userid=scott/tiger@josi&p_deptno='||:deptno
In your case it's a call to the same report you run before and you had to set your month-parameter in the call depending your current month (next or previous).
With srw.set_hyperlink_attrs('string') it's possible to add additional attributes like for example
         srw.set_hyperlink_attrs('target=_new')
which opens a new browser window.
This works for HTML & PDF.
    Regards
    Rainer
