Map Loader 1.0 vs 1.1 different country sizes

Hi,
Can some one explain to me why in the version 1.0 maps like mexico where of 64Mb, slovakia of 6.1Mb and now with the version 1.1 are of 33.5 and 14.9 respectively?!?!
I would supose maps can become bigger but not smaller!!!
And btw... i got the same error while transfering the maps using v 1.1.
Thank you in advance for your replies.

Hi coloboxp
In version 1.1 of Maps storage of map data is a lot more efficient, you don't lose anything you gain memory space.

  • Map Loader load offline

Call me silly but I just killed 2. something GIG of download.
I instructed Map Loader to download Europe (no less) which happens to be a wopping 2.2 Gigabyte. It calculated probably pretty accurately that downloading Europe would cost 1 hours 9 minutes and 48 seconds. A decent figure. Having started the download I absentmindedly and without any evil will disconnected my phone mid-download after 45 min give or take to make a phone call. That made Map Loader scream with discomfort (Waiting for phone!!) and  eventual crash, with a fancy .NET debug message displayed. Yes, my dear readers, Map Loader is written with some Visual tool from Redmond where I expected a nice Qt based application. This now meant that all work was for nothing and the next time I selected Europe for download I was surprised to find it hadn't shrunk and was still the 2.2 Gigabyte and would still take 1 hours and 9 minutes and 48 seconds (thanks, Data) to download.
Now, I did not disconnect my ISP, paid all the facility bills so actually there would be no reason why 87% or an odd 1.8Gig wouldn't be around sitting on my PC still so that only that last 13% needed a download and I would go ahead and fix a drink to have the download finished in an agreeable time.
It would be nice for my and Nokia's bandwidth and the environment (not to mention Europe) to have Map Loader at least save partial data so that in case of an unfortunate attack on the connection between Map Loader and the hand-set at hand it would be able to continue where it left off.
Just a hint. If anyone cares.

    Correct.
Here are the index files (that will allow offline search), straight off Nokia's server.
I don't know if there are newer versions available.
These work for 3.01 of Nokia Maps; I have verified them all.
They probably work for all 3.0 series maps unless they have made serious changes.
    (I don't know about or use 3.03).

These index files must live in
    cities\diskcache\ClientIndex
    on your memory card.
The contents of these zip files (index files) should be extracted to this ClientIndex folder.
If you have 72 folders listed in the root of the cities\diskcache\ClientIndex directory, then it's probably because you decided to extract or install all clientindex files (and/or maps) available on your 8GB (or more) stick, represending 72 countries.
If you have less, it's probably because you decided to install less maps covering less geographical regions. This will vary depending on your choices and maps loaded.
In addition to the above, the cityindex.xml file has to be populated with the right continents/countries listed inside it to allow offline search.
This file lives in the cities\Maploader folder on your memory card.
Populating the cityindex.xml file is normally taken care of by Map Loader (you can easily obtain a fully-populated cityindex.xml file by downloading one (ideally, small) country of each major geographic region with Nokia's Map Loader. In other words, downloading one country under the Africa heading, one country under Asia, etc. After this lengthy and unfriendly process, you will find that a cityindex.xml file of about 10KB is saved listing all countries in it.
Save this cityindex.xml file somewhere, along with your downloaded maps and index files. You may now delete the map files you downloaded on your phone in order to get that fully-populated cityindex.xml file. Now you have the ability to load maps and index files completely offline, without Map Loader. Onto multiple supported phones if you wish, too.
Nokia aren't guaranteed to support you or your phone in the future, and I personally don't expect favourable changes with any future software product (seen too much good software go bad with future releases).
This is why I prefer saving things rather than rely on Nokia's horrendous software (which only allows the delete-it-all or re-download-it-all-again-but-don't-save-to-PC options). Others that don't like Nokia's silly approach know who they are, too.
There are big revenue models being dreamed up now, and I for one don't like the social network aspects Nokia are cooking up or particularly want to use any online features.
I don't want to live with the constant stream of bugs, interface and usability changes that implementing them can cause, too. Basically I don't like where Ovi Maps development is going and at least I know I can load a device to a know fixed state without being at the whims of Nokia's software development.
With a frozen (saved) app, maps & index files, you aren't at the whims of Nokia's crazy development

  • N97 and Realplayer probelms + Maps loader

    Hi Guys,
I have done a very unproductive google search and come up none the wiser so hoping someone here can shed some light.
I transfer video's to my N97 in mass media mode - I originally put them in sounds folder (copied all my itunes library there) and then moved them to the video folder (and music to music) however I can play them via file manager but they do not appear in realplayers list of video clips - and I can't get it to refresh the list - I have turned phone on and off multiple times, been through all the options but none show refresh.
I have added more films and some show in clips but others don't?
I have also updated to maps 3.1 and trying to use map loader to pre-load maps of the UK and Europe onto the phone - map loader on Ovi Suite always gives me a message saying either unable to find the drive (Maps open before and checked it has saved some map info) or it connects, downloads, starts to install and then tells me there is no space to install - when before its telling me I have 20GB free and its taking up less than 2GB??? I have set the slider for amount of space maps can take to 90%.
Anyone able to help me out here?
    Regards
    Alex

Hi Alex, I had a similar issue with the built in video app, but I've figured out how to get my player to load the new videos in the list, don't know if this would help you.
I noticed I have 2 files with the same file name (but different file extension) one is a .mp4 and one is .flv, seems like the video player is confused when this happens, it even ignores all other files from that point onwards.
As you might have guessed, after i renamed the 2 identically named files my videos showed up correctly.
    Hope this helps!

  • Map Loader error while loading catalogue

XM 5800, latest firmware, Maps 3 installed and working OK. I get "Error while loading catalogue for Nokia 5800 XpressMusic" whenever I start Map Loader 3.
Uninstalled/reinstalled Map Loader 3 several times.
Tried suggested fixes of deleting qf and cities folder then running Maps to recreate file structure.
Tried it on a Windows 7 PC with PC Suite and also a Vista PC with Ovi Suite. Same error message.
I am left without the ability to download any maps except over the air as I go incurring data charges.
So I may as well just use Google maps!
I see in the discussion groups this issue comes up for many different Nokia phones occasionally but I have never seen a solution.
    Anyone?
    Solved!

Just when I thought Nokia Care technical support knew what they were doing!!!!
About 4pm NZ time yesterday, after the Map Loader server had been working for about 3 to 4 hours and everything was fine. I got a call from Nokia tech support. I was on the other line so they left a message.
"Sorry, its not going to work because map loader is not completely compatible with Windows 7"
and my email support thread finally pointed me to a "Solution" discussion board entry detailing a fix for Maps 2. You had to download the latest version of Map Loader 2.02!!!!! That was really helpful considering we are on 3.03 and 3.0.28 respectively
So it all stating to work again may have just been coincidence and nothing to do with our support calls! :-<
Oh well at least its working. Now all I have to fix is the MTP USB Device driver failing.
    Cheers

  • Maps Loader: possible solution

This is the solution that worked for me: 1. Format your memory card; 2. Run Maps in your phone once and terminate it, so the folder structure is generated in the memory card; 3. There are two files called "qf", one in the root folder and another one under /cities/diskcache. Edit both, changing the following line: voice_mode:Viking To: map_mode:Viking 4. Run Map Loader again. I hope that will work for you as well... Take care!

OK now, I have some more info on this topic now.
Firstly after having tried to open MapLoader 1.3 and getting the "uncompatible" message, you do not have to format the SD card.
Only delete the hidden "private" folder and the folder "cities". Then you go and delete the qf file from the root directory of the SD card too.
What is new is that I did this 3 days ago and then downloaded the maps with older MapLoader (1.2.1).
Now, yesterday I deleted folders and qf file again and found out that the new MapLoader (1.3) works too.
It even asks to update the maps before opening.
I did download the maps of the Europe with both versions 1.2.1 and 1.3.
But it was interesting to find out that Europe maps downloaded with 1.2.1 were 1,525 MB, but the maps downloaded with 1.3 were over 1,600 MB. So with new version you get more recent maps.
When opening the Maps program on N95 it marks the Sd card with the qf file (or checks if it exists). It may even be possible that the qf file created with older software (11 or 12) are different from the new version (20) software.

  • Map Loader Bug Re. Lost Internet Connection

Don't really know how to alert the programmers behind the Map Loader software to a fairly major software bug.
If the internet connection is - even very briefly - interrupted for even a second, the Map Loader software gives an error message.
BUT - big problem - the map selection CLEARS so you can't resume from where you left. Nor can you see which maps had successfully downloaded while the connection was active, so you have to download the WHOLE list again.
Please update for the next release.

    D-Park,
    Welcome to the HP Forum.
If you were using MAC filtering on your router, you would know how to fix this.    If you do not know what it is, you do have have MAC filtering enabled on the router -- or you are not the router administrator.   So -- don't worry about MAC filtering or go find the router administrator and ask to be let in (you will need the MAC address of the printer -- get a print out of the network page from the printer).

    Loss of network connection
Ordinarily I would suggest you reinstall the Full Feature Software for the printer because the installation can resolve a variety of ills associated with a disconnected wireless printer.
Install Full Feature Software - Printer
You did say the printer lost Internet connection -- this is a bit different from losing connection from your home network.  You seem to be implying that your printer has lost its ePrint connection without actually saying you have lost ePrint.
The following document can help with both a disconnected wireless printer that is not cooperating -- even after you have tried reinstalling the Full Feature Software, for example -- and the document has a link to the ePrint Help and Tips documents that might help you if the issue is just one of ePrint and an Internet connection having to do with the printer and its connection to that service.
    Wireless Printing Center
Take a look around at the sections -- you might start at the Troubleshooting steps and see what jumps out at you -- you might find your "issue" is right there and you can find the steps to fix it right away.

The abovementioned solution hasn't worked for me! I have a brand new 6210 Navigator, and I'm using Nokia PC Suite 7.0.8.2 and Nokia Map loader 2.0.2
I've unsuccesfully tried many different things. Using Map loader v. 1 I happened to contact the server, but could only download "voices" (no maps at all).
Anyhow, the link is from Nokia Ovi suite, not from Nokia PC suite... I also tried the Ovi suite and didn't work either...
Everything runs ok but when I launch the map loader, it says "connection to server interrupted. Check your internet connection or try later" [[free translation from spanish...]
    Any suggestions or ideas, please?
I have a trip to France and Germany next month and would like to use my Navigator there to find my way!
    Thanks a lot

  • A very strange thing happening with Nokia Map Load...

I am trying to load new maps onto my x6.
When I click on Nokia Map Loader it tells me that another instance of the programme is running and that I need to close that one down first.
But this is not the case. I have no other programmes running.
It mentioned that I might have the maps updater programme running. Again that wasn't true.
I uninstalled both and started again.
    Same problem.
I try launching map loader through pc suite. Same thing.
I am really flummoxed and I hope someone can help.
    Thank you.

Did you set up "hot corners" for Expose?
I bet you have the up/left corner set for "Application Windows" then when you move over and have no apps open you get the warning noise. When you move slowly you just don't hit the corner to triger expose

If you have Ovi Suite, you dont need map loader. You can even install PC Suite. Its unadvisable to have them both on the PC
Connect your device to your PC and Ovi Suite. Right click on the bottom where it says connect new device. Follow the prompts. Then select View>Go to>Maps. Select the maps and voice you want to download.

  • Map loader / error loading catalog

    Hi there,
i have a problem with the "map loader" and my Nokia 5800 XM.
... the map loader worked as i bought the phone some months ago. Everything worked fine. Today i had to do a reset. The map is still working, but i cant get the map loader to work.
After the start of the program and sync with the 5800 XM im getting an errormsg (in german but im trying to translate).. "cannot load the catalog of the 5800 xm"
Thats it. I googled whole day, but found no solution... so this forum is my last help right now.
It worked (today) before i have done the reset so im thinking that its not my OS (Windows7 64bit).
    thx in advance
    Murt

one more thing.. i have updated the FW today to the newest available. 50.0.005
found also another thread here /t5/Maps-Navigation-and-GPS/Map-Loader-error-while-loading-catalogue/td-p/624895/page/2
might be an FW problem then?

  • Map Loader not connect to map server

When i start the map loader i get this Problem:
"Connection to the map server has been interrupted."
I do not use any proxy.

Have you tried using OVI Suite which is now the recommended way of adding maps?
Failing that as E72 uses OVI Maps v3.04 you could look at post by ovikovi to download maps directly: /t5/Maps-Navigation-and-GPS/newest-Nokia-Ovi-Maps-0-1-25-114-manual-download/m-p/778870/highlight/tr...

  • Unknown file format when downloading map loader?!?...

I downloaded nokia maps from the nokia website and then nokia map loader but for some reason a get a message on my n73 saying that the nokia map loader is an unknown file format...can anybody tell me what to do??

I assume you're trying to install the map loader on your computer and not on your phone
If you can't get map loader to work, you could try this map loader alternative: http://nokiamaps.moo.no . You don't need to install anything for that.

  • Map Loader 3 doesn't see Internet connection

    Hi,
I have installed Map Loader 3 on my XP Pro sp3 workstation that is connected to the Internet via a Workgroup Server running MS SBS 2003 Premium. Whenever I start the Map Loader application it quits immediately with the error message "Connection to the map server has been interrupted. Make sure that your Internet connection is working and retry ...".
The workgroup server exposes a web proxy server (ISA 2004) that my browser uses to connect to the Internet.
What do I need to change/adjust so that Map Loader can also enjoy this otherwise fine connection?
Thank you for considering my problem.

  • Map Loader and Check In apps

My 808 pureview crashed a couple of weeks ago and now both the map loader and check in apps are not working I get a system error on the Check In app and a map loader error message when I try opening that app. I've done a firmware reinstall to see if that would sort it but it hasn't. I can only conclude that the two files are corrupted. Can anyone help?if it comes to it I will uninstall the entire Maps Suite but there is nothing listed in the Uninstall Applications list to do this. Will I have to find the individual files and delete them? If so can anyone tell me where they are in the C directory?
    Thanks

Check in has been discontinued since version 3.9.95.However you can get it by searching over the net via Google search. I am using it but cant give You download links since that would be against forum rules.
