Map Loader doesn't see my phone

Hello.
When I connect my N95 to the PC via USB (in PC Suite mode) and start Nokia Maps Loader program, it just keeps popping "Waiting for device"... Obviously it doesn't recognize my device...
Why?
Thank you.

Thanks everyone for the tips. There are a few gaps in the advice however for novices like myself. To fill these in :
1) You must have a microSD card for the maps loader to work, minimum 2Giga (Nokia maps are by continent and heavy files : 1.3G for Europe or America). You may even find that the Mapsloader application says there's not enough space on your 2Giga card, in which case you have to increase the memory allocation within the maps application on your phone - Maploader will tell you where to find this.
2) The "data transfer" mode everyone talks about is in the message which pops up in the phone when you connect it to a computer with PC Suite installed, not on the computer itself or in the PC Suite application.
3) You must have the Maps application activated in the phone before you connect to the computer for MapLoader to recognise the phone.
4) Upload overnight. The connection is slow, a couple of hours for Europe or America.
Good luck !

  • Nokia Map Loader doesn't recognize the 5800XM

Hello, I have a 5800 Xpress Music and I have downloaded some maps to it from Nokia Map Loader.
Now it is not working and in Nokia Map Loader it waits for the phone (it does not recognize it) when I connect it through USB.
In Nokia Ovi Suite it says that the phone does not work with Nokia Maps or that the maps and voice guidance and corrupted.
I went to make a trip with my car and the voice guidance worked properly.
I tried to download again the Map Loader and it installed the “maps_installer_3.03_1”. And Nokia Map Loader 3.0.28.0.
I have the firmware 50.0.005 downloaded too.
What can I do to download some more maps to my 5800?
I have looked for solutions in the forum but I did not find them.
    Thanks

It seems that there is something wrong with the files in your phone. Run a disk check of your card on your PC. It may fix the problem.
If it doesnt, you will have to manually delete the voice and maps on your phone and recreate the folder structure.
Delete the cities folder and qf file on your memory card. Turn off phone and remove battery for 5min. Reboot phone then open maps application. Wait for it to recreate folder structure. Then reconnect to Ovi Suite and redownload the maps.

    Tittle says it all.

    I use windows vista.
So if somoene has a solutien for my problem, please post it.
I own a nokia N82 but I don't think that has anything to do with the problem.
    Thx

No "Private" file on my N95 either, and tried all the other tips, to no avail.
I've lost count the number of times I've deleted & down-loaded & repaired this application, and it still doesn't work!! Just sits there, blankly staring at me, blinking "waiting for device"...
One of the main reasons I purchased this phone was to be able to download maps onto my computer - AND IT DOES NOT WORK!!!
What is going on Nokia? Forget all the fancy flash videos, showing us all the fantastic things we can do on our phones and make your damn software work! AAARGH!
And BTW, Nokia you may have crammed a lot of tech into your phone; it may do a lot of things, but mostly, very badly.... rubbish camera, terrible mp3 player, etc.
Right, I have now wasted about 8 hours of my life trying to make this pile of rubbish work, and if i don't throw it out the window first, it's going straight on ebay!
Gets coat and heads for nearest iPhone shop.......

  • Maps loader doesn't start from my PC Suite

I just updated the firmware on my 5800 and tried to start using the new navigation software.. it complained that I have old maps, so it deleted them. I updated my PC suite as well as the Map loader software. Now that I tried to start the Map loader from PC suite, it will only jump to a Nokia maps site and doesn't start. The previous version worked ok, but I guess it only gives my phone maps which are not supported. I've tried rebooting, reinstalling, checking updates...
Any suggestions how to get the Map loader working or the maps to my phone?

Hi. Go to http://europe.nokia.com/explore-services/ovi-maps/downloads-and-services ,  and download the Nokia map loader.

  • Map Loader doesn't work at all!

I have read on the forum that you can load down maps to your N95 with Map Loader to avoid traffic costs.
I failed to do it regards many try.
I have a HP PC with Vista Business. I begin with upgrade of PC Suit on it (6.84) and I updated Maps software on N95. I downloaded Map Loader from Nokia Site (1.2) and started it. I get a message that I should use GPS once before I use Map Loader. So I did it and drive a bit of road with it. It worked pretty well, I didn’t try voice guides yet.
Thereafter I connect N95 by USB cable in memory mode to my PC and started Map Loader. I get the warnings screen as usual and after I choose OK I get error message, something like that: Unexpected error occurred, sorry for inconvenience, try again later!
I tried all I could without success, please help before I’ll get creasy :-)

Read the maploader error message more carefully!
You simply have to put your phone into the correct mode.
Connect your phone and select mass storage (NOT PC Suite). Start map loader and it will download direct to your card.Message Edited by selintra on 01-Oct-200709:22 PM
    Thank You for your concern!
I have read very carefully the error message, be sure of it. The problem was that when I connected my N95 via USB I get the choice: PC Suite mode or Mass storage mode and I choose Mass storage mode, precisely as you have suggested it. But it did not work! I was frustrated as I said before.
But it says DATA TRANSFER MODE, not Mass storage mode, doesn’t it?
I red the other post in this forum which describe how you put your USB connection port on your phone in to this mode.
Go to Tools > Settings > Connection > USB > USB mode = Data transfer
I did it and EUREKA! It works  And more! Now when I connect my N95 to USB port it ask me if I want connect it in DATA TRANSFER mode or not!
I do not know why it didn’t do it before, but that was my problem!

  • Nokia 6021 PC Suite 6.81 Doesn't see the phone

Nokia 6021, bought 13.09.2006 PC Suite 6.81, downloaded and installed 17.09 Type of connection - InfraRed Win XP, SP2 Problem: WinXP sees the phone and recognizes as Nokia 6021. PC Suite does not! I waited for 15 minutes. I followed all the PC Suite instructions and chose Infrared port from the list.

there are 2 ways to turn on infrared in PC suite.
Make sure that in Nokia Connection Manager Infrared is turned ON (use right mouse click on icon in your bar panel near clock). Another one is Nokia - Get connected (in main window). I hope it helps.

  • "WAITING FOR DEVICE" problem for Map Loader 2.0.2

i'm sure many have had that problem, but doing a search on topics doesn't seem to produce an answer. if you have resolved that issue please post again your solution here

Open Nokia Map application, go online whether through through your wireless network if your phone is equipped with or through your ordinary 3G or paid internet connection, downloading of very small amount of Data as about 300 KB is enough to "stamp" your memory card with identification file called QF file then the the solution is simply the following:
If your phone is hacked or you are able to access the following on your memory card:
    (Memory Card drive):\private\20001f63\diskcache
copy the file named QF from the above folder and install it on the root of your memory drive.
The excute Map loader (doesn't make difference whether PC suite or Data transfer) it will be identified and then you can download whatever Map you want.

    Hi Als3di2010,
Which version of OVI MAPS APPLICATION do u have and which version of OVI Country Maps have u loaded?
As cjlim said, delete the QF and CITIES 1st, then restart OVI MAPS.
If that works, then we know your OVI MAPS APPLICATION is fine.
Next download a country map (same version as the application) and see what happens.
If not, then u may need to download manually using the following threads:
    1. v3.04 maps by ovikovi at: v3.04
    or
    2. v3.06 maps (beta) by scoobyman at: v3.06

  • Map loader/ software updater problems

I have had my N95 for about 2 weeks and have spent hours trying to get gps to work. I have just been following someones instructions on another thread but fell at the first hurdle. Nokia recommends that I install Nokia maps up date prior to installing map loader, then map loader recommends I download and install nokia sofware updater. Problem there is I get an error message half way through saying minimum requirement is 256mb memory. I have loads of memory so I don't understand why this is happening.
Can anyone help? You will need to keep it simple!!

    Hi,
But the problem is in RAM memory of Your PC not in this on Your Hard Disk Drive (59,95GB). This memory is mounted on motherboard of your PC. Check inner configuration. Control panel - system. If it's lower then 256MB, you have to buy another block of RAM. And how big is your SD card. Besides nokia map loader doesn't work now. See the topics below yours. Some problem with software update version 20. Maybe if you didn't updated older v.12 soft. it should go.

  • Map Loader load offline

Call me silly but I just killed 2. something GIG of download.
I instructed Map Loader to download Europe (no less) which happens to be a wopping 2.2 Gigabyte. It calculated probably pretty accurately that downloading Europe would cost 1 hours 9 minutes and 48 seconds. A decent figure. Having started the download I absentmindedly and without any evil will disconnected my phone mid-download after 45 min give or take to make a phone call. That made Map Loader scream with discomfort (Waiting for phone!!) and  eventual crash, with a fancy .NET debug message displayed. Yes, my dear readers, Map Loader is written with some Visual tool from Redmond where I expected a nice Qt based application. This now meant that all work was for nothing and the next time I selected Europe for download I was surprised to find it hadn't shrunk and was still the 2.2 Gigabyte and would still take 1 hours and 9 minutes and 48 seconds (thanks, Data) to download.
Now, I did not disconnect my ISP, paid all the facility bills so actually there would be no reason why 87% or an odd 1.8Gig wouldn't be around sitting on my PC still so that only that last 13% needed a download and I would go ahead and fix a drink to have the download finished in an agreeable time.
It would be nice for my and Nokia's bandwidth and the environment (not to mention Europe) to have Map Loader at least save partial data so that in case of an unfortunate attack on the connection between Map Loader and the hand-set at hand it would be able to continue where it left off.
Just a hint. If anyone cares.

    Correct.
Here are the index files (that will allow offline search), straight off Nokia's server.
I don't know if there are newer versions available.
These work for 3.01 of Nokia Maps; I have verified them all.
They probably work for all 3.0 series maps unless they have made serious changes.
    (I don't know about or use 3.03).

These index files must live in
    cities\diskcache\ClientIndex
    on your memory card.
The contents of these zip files (index files) should be extracted to this ClientIndex folder.
If you have 72 folders listed in the root of the cities\diskcache\ClientIndex directory, then it's probably because you decided to extract or install all clientindex files (and/or maps) available on your 8GB (or more) stick, represending 72 countries.
If you have less, it's probably because you decided to install less maps covering less geographical regions. This will vary depending on your choices and maps loaded.
In addition to the above, the cityindex.xml file has to be populated with the right continents/countries listed inside it to allow offline search.
This file lives in the cities\Maploader folder on your memory card.
Populating the cityindex.xml file is normally taken care of by Map Loader (you can easily obtain a fully-populated cityindex.xml file by downloading one (ideally, small) country of each major geographic region with Nokia's Map Loader. In other words, downloading one country under the Africa heading, one country under Asia, etc. After this lengthy and unfriendly process, you will find that a cityindex.xml file of about 10KB is saved listing all countries in it.
Save this cityindex.xml file somewhere, along with your downloaded maps and index files. You may now delete the map files you downloaded on your phone in order to get that fully-populated cityindex.xml file. Now you have the ability to load maps and index files completely offline, without Map Loader. Onto multiple supported phones if you wish, too.
Nokia aren't guaranteed to support you or your phone in the future, and I personally don't expect favourable changes with any future software product (seen too much good software go bad with future releases).
This is why I prefer saving things rather than rely on Nokia's horrendous software (which only allows the delete-it-all or re-download-it-all-again-but-don't-save-to-PC options). Others that don't like Nokia's silly approach know who they are, too.
There are big revenue models being dreamed up now, and I for one don't like the social network aspects Nokia are cooking up or particularly want to use any online features.
I don't want to live with the constant stream of bugs, interface and usability changes that implementing them can cause, too. Basically I don't like where Ovi Maps development is going and at least I know I can load a device to a know fixed state without being at the whims of Nokia's software development.
With a frozen (saved) app, maps & index files, you aren't at the whims of Nokia's crazy development

  • Map Loader 3 doesn't see Internet connection

    Hi,
I have installed Map Loader 3 on my XP Pro sp3 workstation that is connected to the Internet via a Workgroup Server running MS SBS 2003 Premium. Whenever I start the Map Loader application it quits immediately with the error message "Connection to the map server has been interrupted. Make sure that your Internet connection is working and retry ...".
The workgroup server exposes a web proxy server (ISA 2004) that my browser uses to connect to the Internet.
What do I need to change/adjust so that Map Loader can also enjoy this otherwise fine connection?
Thank you for considering my problem.

What's the origin of this external drive? It sounds very much like it's a Windows-formatted (NTFS) drive which Macs can't write to. If you can, copy the files off the drive, reformat it as Mac format (using Disk Utility) and copy the files back. If you need to continue writing to it from a Windows PC, you should format it ExFAT in Disk Utility.

OK, I think this was among a series of "recalled" (years ago) printers where the feed rollers would become coated with a very slick substance that was outgassing from the rubber.  There was a cleaning kit made for this but I am not sure it is still available.  Instructions for it are here.
It the absence of the kit, you can clean the rollers manually by removing the rear door and scrubbing the three rollers with Scotchbrite.  Red was used in the kit, but green may be aggressive enough to do the job.  You may have to fiddle with the printer to clean the entire circumference of the three rollers.  Once you do this, you will be good to go for years to come!

    Hi everybody;
I have a new N95, updated all the software and have used maps at least once. Well, exactly once. After updating I went out and found a free WLAN and loaded the local map. Now back at my computer the map loader software says no medium detected please connect phone or card reader. My phone IS connected. This is as far as I can get since map loader shuts itself off.
