Mapping Application and GPS Location

I have a BB Curve on Verizon.   I have used the mapping application to locate local businesses.   When I try to map to those locations, the device wants to know my starting location.   How do I make it use my current GPS location?   It obviously knew where I was in order to tell me how close I was.

From what I have read on both this forum and Crackberry's Verizon 8330 GPS is not enabled unless you pay for VZ Navigator. However, Google maps uses cell towers as well to triangulate your position, if your GPS is disabled. Google Maps works real well, as long as you can live with being APPROXIMATLEY on a location. In my case I am within 5,000 meters while at home. When I travel downtown I've had it go to within 500 meters. I believe that difference is the amount of cell towers in the area.
Google maps is free, VZnavigator is a monthly fee of around $10 I think.
Hope this helps!

  • Cant find the BB maps application and others

    Hello all,
I have my BB 8900 curve brand new only 4-5 days old. In the main menu I can not see any icon of the BlackBerry maps plus one more application that I installed via the computer.
These applications appear as installed in the Advanced Options-> Applications but they do not appear in any folder as an executable icon like Options, SMS, Media etc.
Where can I find them and and make them appear in the main menu?
    Thanks in advance
    Anthony

I think what happened here is you attempted to mix and match versions of Garageband. Your issues are unlikely to have to do with Leopard versus Tiger. Since both Macs you have are Intel CPU Macs and they are just simply different generations of Mac Pro, your best method of migrating would be the migration assistant. Drag and dropping the audio files, after deleting what came with machine introduces a lot of room for error. So first, restore Garageband following these instructions from the discs that shipped with your Mac:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61802
Then follow these directions for the migration assistant:

Don't trash the Library files, those are bad habits you should avoid.

  • After updating to iOS6, I can no longer find the "little yellow man" in the MAP application and so cannot do a virtual tour of my destination or current position. Surely this feature has not been lost?

I have recently updated to iOS6. With this new version came the "new and improved" MAPS. One of the most important features i enjoyed on the previous version was the google map feature of being able to take a virtual look at your position or destination by using the "little yellow man". I no longer see this feature and am wondering what I am doing wrong. Obviously apple would not be so negligent as to remove this feature on purpose!
    Thanks
    Ian

That feature you mentioned is called Google Street View. As you see in its name, it has Google in it.
Apple is no longer working with Google for their map system, for many unknown reasons (we can only speculate). Therefore, it is normal that Street View is not included anymore.

  • I am in nanchang jiangxi china but my local weather and google map is showing unknown location so Plz help me

I am in nanchang jiangxi china but my local weather and google map is showing unknown location so Plz help me

The weather application is powered by "Yahoo". It doesn't have all cities listed in the database and your city is also not listen. Therefore it's not showing your local weather. You can "ADD" a nearby location in the weather application.
For the location problem, turn the location service "OFF" & "ON". Restart your phone (by long pressing the ON & OFF button on top right & slide to tun off). Then use a WIFI connection to run the google map application and locating your position. I hope this will fix the issue.

  • Nokia maps 1.0 - india maps, Maharashtra and Goa

    Hi all,
I want to download india maps and specifically maps of Maharashtra and Goa. I bought a Nokia C2-03 (dual-sim) recently and have been trying to download maps via Nokia Ovi Suite 3.1.1.90 but it has been a failure.
The device itself does not have much memory but do have a memory card. Does anybody know how :-
    a. I can download and install the Maharashtra and Goa map in the memory card ?
    b. A link from where I can download the map. I did see this link given /t5/Maps-Navigation-and-GPS/Maps-Data-File-size-discrepancy/m-p/1166517/message-uid/1166517/highligh... but unfortunately it seems for a different version of Nokia maps .
    c. Am I correct in assuming its Nokia maps 1.0 . This I came to know via Menu > Maps > Options > About where it says Maps 1.0 www.nokia.com/maps/support
    maps.nokia.com
copyright 2010 navteq  All rights reserved www.navteq.com
All and any help and clarity on the above would be helpful.

    @shirishag75
    Welcome to the forum!
Unfortunately S40 devices use Nokia Maps 1.0 for which available mapping is a lot less detailed; presumably  you have inserted memory card and opened Nokia Maps application at least once upon your C2-03 to initialise application? At this point Ovi Suite > Maps should recognise memory card and offer you maps to download but not always so.
That said Series 40 Ovi Maps 2.1 is variable in implementation and if device supplied with local maps installed upon memory card there doesn't seem an issue adding more maps but real issues if no maps with it sometimes.
You could look at this Nokia resource:http://europe.nokia.com/support/product-support/maps-support/how-to/how-to-use-maps-for-s40

  • Tomcat 5.0,  deploy application from original location

Hi! I've an application that runs under Tomcat 5.0. I made a war file and deploy it fine. It deploys the application under tomcat directory hierarchy (webapps...) but I want it to be loaded from the directory from whom I am working, right now I need to re-upload the war file every time that I make a change in my code, so... this is really terrible. In Tomcat 3.3 you just build an .xml file and tell the name of the application and the location... I want to know if there is something like that in version 5.0 or how can I do the same (Tomcat 5.0 loading an application from my directory, not from its webapps directory)
    Many thanks!

  • My location service is not working from the day one the response is that (cannot able to determine the location) .What can i need to do to see my location in maps and other application even the location services is enabled in the settings?

From the day one the response is that (cannot able to determine the location) while using ios5.1 .What can i need to do to see my location in maps and other application even the location services is enabled in the settings?.Which means that is there is any problem in my ipad ? currently running on IOS 6.

Your location is determined from a location database which contains the MAC addresses of routers and their physical location. A MAC address is a unique number which is built-in to all network devices when manufactured. The database is built and updated by actually driving around and mapping router locations.
Since you just moved the location of your router has not been updated in the database and when you use Maps you will see your old location.
If you go outside your house you can be correctly located because your iPod sees other routers which are in the location database. Note that you do not need to be connected to a router for your iPod to see it and obtain its MAC address.

  • Iphone 3G and Maps application overseas

Does anyone know if the Maps application on the iphone 3G will work overseas, i.e., can I get me current location, say in Europe, and get directions to a specific address? Do I need to download other maps? Thanks.

GPS picks up your location and downloads the maps live to your iPhone (note that the cost of downloading live map data throughout your journey comes at a price). As in most countries, I believe your provider (AT&T?) has an international data roaming plan to reduce costs.
But I am UK-based and it has worked everywhere I have been throughout Europe and the US.
You'll only have to download maps if you use a specific sat-nav application such as Navigon (or TomTom which everyone is still waiting for). Then, all the maps are stored on the phone and use GPS without the need for data download which means no data roaming costs are incurred.

  • I have a 4s i upad te to ios7 and the location (GPS) is not working

I have a 4s i upad te to ios7 and the location (GPS) is not working, mapa is working, but cant find places or tell me my location...  Can ana One help me ????

    Hello James,
The flashing WLAN light means activity (data getting transferred). Try disconnecting all your devices and check whether the light is still flashing or disconnect the router from internet and do the check.
Do you have your SSID as linksys or the default one? If your neighbor has the same SSID, then traffic could result from your neighbor's one. Try changing your SSID and password. Make your security WPA/WPA2.
    Hope this helps,
    Thanks
    Vijay

  • Map screen: assign the same GPS location to a "sparse" group of pictures

Let's say a have a buch of photos that have beeen taken at the same spot at different times. The pictures are scattered across the fimstrip and might even belong to different collections in the same catalog (or even different catalogs?). What is the best way to assign the same GPS coordinates to all these pictures using Map screen?
Of course, the direct way to do that is to carefully select all these photos in the filmstrip and then click the desired location on the map. This is problematic for more reasons than one. Firstly, it is difficult to scroll through the entire strip and pick out the pictures one by one. Secondly, if I acccidentally miss one or two pictures, I have to start all over again.
The better way would be some sort of copy-paste appproach: copy the desired location into the clipboard (from another image or straight from the map) and then paste it over the desired images one by one or, better, over groups of images. One feature that at first looks promising in this regard is the text entry field on the right that contains the GPS coordinates in text form. It is editable, meaning that I can copy the coordinates (in text form) from one image and paste it into the same field of another image. However, this unfortunately does not guarantee that the images will end up with identical locations: the image that received new coordinates might (and will) end up with a slightly different location on the map that the "donor" image. This means that the coordinates are stored internally with better precision than their representation in that text entry field.
So, what are the other options?

You could also do this copying of GPS location to whatever photos you want using non-Lightroom (freeware) tools such as GeoSetter or ExifTool. This makes the issue of precision go away, and of course those tools can copy the GPS location to any photo you have, regardless of what Lightroom catalog it is in.
So, you'd have to use LR to write the metadata to the photos, then use non-Lightroom tools to copy the GPS location, then back in Lightroom read the metadata.

  • IPhone 4s GPS/location services not working correctly in Maps

I have had an iPhone since the original, so I am not new to the way Maps works. Maps has been useless on my new 4s. It keeps pulling up locations from other states, or telling me I am at a location when I am 5-10 miles away. For example, I searched for Fireshouse subs ( I am in Florida) it found one match: Denny's in California?!? I searched for an autozone that I was a mile from and pulled one in Nebraska. Also, I can calulate a route, tells me I am 30 miles away, drive a mile, change start from Current Location, and then I am 10 miles away.... Is there a way to calibrate my GPS? This is very frustrating! thanks
(is iPhone 4S really not a product in the drop down selection Apple?)

Ok.. didn't need the 3 finger solute. I turned on Airplane Mode and left it there for 5min.
Once I turned Airplane Mode off and services came back I went back to maps and got the "Will you allow Maps to see your location... blah blah".
Now GPS services, both maps and loopt, working again. Maybe Airplane Mode OFF/ON reset/reconnected services? No idea, but I'm trackable again.
    Thanks for the quick replies.

  • MacOS 10.9's Maps and GPS

Recently, I upgraded my late-2012 slimline iMac from MacOS 10.8 "Mountain Lion" to MacOS 10.9 "Mavericks". Also recently, my parents replaced an aging white MacBook with a refurbished late-2013 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina Display. Now both machines run on MacOS 10.9.
One new feature for both my parents and myself is Maps. We occasionally use a handheld DeLorme Earthmate PN-40 GPS receiver for travel (finding key points, directions, etc.), as well as recording needed coordinates for recreational trails inspections and maintenance work bees and other activities. DeLorme does not provide GPS interface software for MacOS. We have, however, used Google Earth in the past to load GPX files off of the PN-40's SD card.
Short of loading Microsoft Windows onto our respective computers, is there a way to extract GPS waypoint coordinates and GPX route files from the SD card to display and manipulate in MacOS 10.9's Maps?
Also: if there a way to manually type in GPS coordinates into Maps to display and/or record points of interest for future reference and use in e-mail communiqués, newsletters, reports, etc.?
    Thanks in advance.

You can enter the GPS coordinates manually into Maps using the search field.  Here is an example of entering the decimal GPS coordinates for the Empire State Building in NYC.
I also tried it on the GPS location for my house, and it went to the correct location.  Just remember that Maps is a street navigation tool.  It will try to find a nearby street address (if there is one) to associate with the coordinates you enter.
