Mapping drives and FTP access

Hello, I am looking at migrating our GroupWise server to OES Linux and have
a few questions about drive mappings. I set up a test server and tried using
EVMS to manage volumes to get NSS volume support but the server crashed
within a few days with a "Segmentation fault". I could not figure out how to
recover the OS so I reinstalled, this time without EVMS. Here's my
questions:
1. Can I use NSS without EVMS?
2. If I stick with the standard Linux file system (reiserfs) how do I assign
rights to my edirectory users and map folders?
3. Is there an easy way to set up FTP login using an authentication method
that I can give certain users or groups of users access to the htdocs folder
for web publishing?
I have not played much with user rights on OES so I am not sure what would
be the correct or easiest path to take to accomplish what I am after.
Thanks,
Richard G.

  • Citrix mapped drives and crystals merged files

Has anybody come across an issue with Citrix mapped drives and crystals merged files.
I have updated the crystal DLL's my application uses to 11.5 and created a new setup kit to distribute my app including these new DLLu2019s along with a merged file call crstalreports11_5_net_2005.msm the Visual Studio setup app added. The installation runs fine on the Citrix server and application runs as well.  When I come to run any report on the Citrix server I get an error u201Cprocedure call or argument is not validu201D.  If I remove the mapping to the drives the reports run without any errors.
I need to keep the mapped drives on Citrix so removing the mappings is not really a solution to my problem (which is a shame really)
I am using Visual Studio 2005, Crystal Report XI and Citrix 4.5
Any help would be gratefully received

See if Process Monitor will help you trace down to where this is happening. Process Monitor can be downloaded from here:

Make sure you filter for your process name as Proc Mon creates rather large log files. Once you have a log, search for errors such as Access Denied, etc.

  • Best way to free up hard drive and still access pics

My 7 years worth of pics have filled up my hard drive.  What is the best way to use TC (if it can be used for that) to free up my hard drive and still access the pics?  If i also used an external HD plugged into the TC would that show up in my finder?  Thanks in advance

The TC is a lousy place to locate your photos.. the simple reason is there is no backup.. The whole reason for the TC is a backup.. if you move the picture to the TC there is no automatic backup without setting up software and another device as backup location. So you may as well either.
    1. Put a bigger hard disk in the Mac
    2. Plug in a USB or Firewire drive into your Mac
    3. Get a proper NAS which does auto backup
    4. USB drive connected to the TC will work but is by far the slowest option. The data rate is half that of the same drive connected directly to your computer.
    5. Get a computer as a server into which you can place or attach a heap of hard drives.

  • DANGER: Turning off iCould Drive DELETES documents on your local drive and terminates access to those documents on iCloud Drive

So, I wanted to move about 40 GB of my documents to iCloud Drive. I do so. The upload is very slow -- 3 days 24/7 with no end in sight. There's no status report available to know what the progress is. Internet service at work and home slows to a crawl. In frustration, I turn off iCloud Drive in Sys Prefs. HUGE mistake. In addition to losing access to the documents on iCloud Drive, which I expected, turning off iCloud Drive either deleted the original documents I'd moved to iCloud Drive, or deleted the map which, through iCloud Drive, I could view them in my /Library folder.
I think I can regain access to them on my "original" device (the device I used to move the documents to iCloud Drive in the first place), but I also think that requires the same glacial, bandwidth-hogging sync that moved them to iCloud Drive in the first place.
I had current Time Machine backups but, having lost access to the documents on iCloud Drive, those TM backups are now accessible only back to the files before I moved them to Cloud Drive and, of course, include none of the files I've created in those folders since moving them to iCloud Drive.
Has Apple really turned over software engineering for these sorts of new features to its most hateful competitors? iCloud Drive is a joke.

First, to access documents you must use an app designed for that specific Document type. So Pages will not be able to open PDFs. The Documents app by Readdle can handle PDFs though. In the latter case, you'd open the app, click the menu icon at its top left, and click Open to go to your iCloud Drive. With Pages, if you had files outside the main Pages folder, click + then iCloud and navigate to the file's location.

  • Bug report with proposed solution for mounting external drives for ftp access

Hello Guys,   I registered to inform you about something I would classify as a bug. I realized this when I used an external drive with my WD My Cloud and trying to access the drive via ftp. It simply was not visible on the ftp, but was accessible as samba share. I digged a bit in the scripts and found this:  /etc/init.d/mountDataVolume.sh   [...]
    ## initialze bind mount dir (/nfs)
    /usr/local/sbin/updateShareBindMntDir.sh --init
    [...]  /usr/local/sbin/updateShareBindMntDir.sh  [...]
    init_mounts()
    mount | grep -q "${SHARE_BIND_MNT_DIR}/"
    if [ $? -ne 0 ]; then
    # initial clean up of MNT dir
    rm -rvf ${SHARE_BIND_MNT_DIR}/*
    fi
    for D in `find /shares/ -maxdepth 1 -mindepth 1 -type d -not -name ".*"`; do
    share_name=$(basename $D)
    add_mount "${share_name}"
    done
[...]   The init_mounts() function searches /shares for directories (find -type >d<) and bind mounts these to SHARE_BIND_MNT_DIR (default: /nfs) by calling add_mount(). This is the directory where ftp users will drop in after logging in. The problem: find -type d will not find symlinks and external drives are represented by a symlink from /shares to /var/media/EXTERNALDRIVE I propose adding the following code at the end of init_mounts()   for D in `find /shares/ -maxdepth 1 -mindepth 1 -type l -not -name ".*"`; do
    share_name=$(basename $D)
    add_mount "${share_name}"
done That will look for symlinks in /shares and call add_mount() for each symlink to bind mount it to SHARE_BIND_MNT. I think this is not intended aka a bug because I found this comment for add_mount(): # - If <share_name> is a symlink to an external volume, then create the bind mount
    # directly to the external volume. As it seems from this comment add_mount() supports symlinks but init_mounts does not feed it any.   I tried this solution myself and it works flawlessly.   Yours sincerely, schnip

  • I have my iTunes library on external drive and can access from any PC. However I cannot access from new MacBokk Air.

My iTunes library is on an external drive and been using it on two PCs with no problem.
Now that I got a new MacBook Air I want to access the same iTunes library from the external drive and keep all the library and media on that external drive.
When I try to change to another iTunes library by hitting "option" with iTunes and select the library on the external hard drive I get the following message:
"The iTunes library file is locked, on a locked disk, or you do noy have write permission for this file."
I have read many posts in which many suggest to go to the library or media file on the PC and right click to make sure the read only tab is not checked.
I uncheked the read only tab and gave full permission to all the iTunes files and folders.
The unusual part is that I can use this external drive on many PCs that I have tried with no problem at all.
I just select a different library, which is on my external hard drive and everything works, play lists and everything.
However, when I try it on a MAC i get the message stated above:
What can I do to be able to access my External iTunes library from new MacBook Air while keeping everything on the external drive like I can on PCs?
I am running latest version of iTunes and Mavericks.
    Please advise.

  • Lost website and ftp access in Leopard

After one of the recent security updates, I lost access to my website and I no longer have ftp access to my computer. I have a mac mini in my office that I host a company website on (with a static IP address). I also access my office files using the Fetch FTP program. I can no longer access either one. I can ping the computer over the internet and get no packet loss. Nothing hads changed on the router. I can access other computers in the office, only having a problem with the mac mini.

Your problem doesn't look like a technical one. It's more a problem of practices in your organizations.
Michals suggestion with the identity-firewall is a very good choice if you still want to keep complete control over the traffic that is allowed through your firewall. But your post sounds a little bit that you would like to delegate the work.
For that, an FTP-proxy in the DMZ could be a solution. This proxy is allowed to access the internet with FTP on your firewall. And you can delegate to administration of that proxy to the desktop-crew which are probably the admins that know best who needs FTP-access and who doesn't.

  • How do I save just my photos to an external hard drive and still access them in iphoto

I have a lot of photos that take up space on my hard drive. It is now full and I need to continue to use them but i need to load new photo also. How do i save the old photos onto an external hard drive and then still access them in iphoto?

This is where iTunes stores backups for different operating systems: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4946
I do not use a Windows machine, have a Windows Vista Dell I rarely startup now.  But, from what I remember with Win boxes is, you will have to create on the external hard drive a file system like that one iTunes normally uses, and then in the iTunes preferences or control panel edit the location for the storage to specify the name of the external hard drive, or its letter code, with the name of that file system you created on the exernal drive.
I would also move all of the files from the internal file system to the external since you have now told iTunes that is where they are...before deleting from the internal drive, test iTunes to see that it goes where you want it to go.

  • Windows Server 2008 Standard: Multiple Concerns: Inconsistent group policy update on client PC's, frequent disconnections of map drives and remote connection

Hi this is my first time to ask a question here in this community.
I am a system administrator here at my work and we are having some issues on some servers that we handle. Network in our office is stable and we have determined it is not a problem on the connection.
First issue - One of our domain controller consistently drops out on our Directory Server and saying it's unavailable.
Second issue - Unable to ping hostname but IP address works fine. (Sometimes hostname is ok but very intermittent)
Third issue - Since connection is unstable map drives causes to disconnect
If someone can provide any assistance on this matter it would be a great help. If screenshots needed for proper assistance would be appreciative.
Just to add that this only happen after a power failure last April of this month and a few weeks bluescreen started to show. It is a hazy version wasn't able to get any code that may lead to a hardware failure.
Now our main RDC.local is also affected so we are trying to isolate this issue and exhauted my brain since we cannot determine what causes it. Need external assistance just to give us a lead on where we can get this resolved.

    Hi Ryan,
Before going further, would you please let me confirm something more? Thanks for your understanding.
    1. For first issue, would you please let me know OS edition information of the problematic DC? Was it Windows Server 2008 R2 or Windows Server 2012 or any other?
    à
One of our domain controller consistently drops out on our Directory Server and saying it's unavailable.
Would you please let me know the complete error message or provide a screenshot of it?
(Please hide all protected or private information.) Meanwhile, please log on the problematic DC and check if find relevant events or errors in Event Viewer.
    2. For the second issue, it seems to be a DNS issue. Did you run
ipconfig /flushdns and ipconfig /registerdns command? Any find? Meanwhile, please use
ipconfig /all to display full TCP/IP configuration and check. Or you can post the
ipconfig result here. It may help us to go further analyze. By the way, would you please let me know error message that you can get when be unable to ping via hostname?
    3.
àSince connection is unstable map drives causes to disconnect
    May be a cause.
If any update, please feel free to let me know.
    Hope this helps.
    Best regards,

  • Mapped drives and linked graphics

I have started a new position as a tech writer and have inherited files that will have to be maintained. As I am opening various files, I am finding a lot of broken links. As I investigate (by hovering over the file in the Links pallette), it appears that the basic file path is correct. But what I notice is that the drive letter on the broken ones is not the same. So for example, a link that works is Z:\Artwork\Product Name\filename.eps but a link that is broken is V:\Artwork\Product Name\filename.eps
I also find some links that work, which link to the actual networked drive name instead of a mapped name, for example \\drivename\Artwork\Product Name\filename.eps
If I try and link to a file myself, and then look at the path, it shows the path with the Mapped drive.
So first of all, I assume that the broken links are caused by a user who did not map that drive to the same letter as was used by others. Is that correct? Second, how did someone create a link to the drive name instead of the mapped drive letter? Since I am going to have to fix these broken links, Since some of these files may also be used by the marketing folks, I would like to come up with an approach  so that anyone else opening the file will not encounter broken links, if they have not mapped the drives to the same letters.
    Thanks for your help.

Well, either someone chose a different letter, or the drive letters were assigned from above by an IT department (and ordinary users are locked out of mapping new drives).
It's possible to map the same share twice, if you have the power to do so. So just remap V: to the same network share as Z: and you're good to go, for your own purposes. I'm not sure how you could set it up to cover the rest of your question (so that anyone else opening the file would not get the missing links dialog) without relinking everything yourself. I suppose it'd be scriptable.

  • Open Files on Server 2012 - Why Do All Mapped Drives (and users) Show as Open

Our office just installed Server 2012 (Standard).  We used to run Server 2003 Standard.
We have 3 shared/mapped folders on the server - and have 12 users mapped to those shared folders.
When I go to Computer Management/Shared/Open files, it used to be empty if no users were currently using one of the shared folders (in Server 2003).   Now even if no users are currently using one of the mapped folders - most of the users
are listed with the mapped drive reference.
Is this something new in Server 2012?
I used to use this to determine exactly who was in a share if we had problems and needed to close that particular workstation.  Now with them all listed, I am wondering if things are not closing properly??
Thank you for any insight you can provide!

Thank you for your reply.  Now I notice that even though a workstation (Windows 7.0 Pro) has closed our Prosystem FX tax program, there will still be at least one file showing as "open"  for that program on Server 2012 even though the user has
exited the program and we have rebooted the workstation.
The tax program itself doesn't seem to "think" the files are open as it lets me do tasks that require all users to be out of the program.
Just wondering why files that aren't open seem to show as open on Server 2012.  They did not do this with Server 2003 and XP workstations.  Or even with Server 2003 and Windows 7 Pro workstations.  Just when we changed to Server 2012 and have
    our Windows 7.0 workstations.
    Thank you again,
    Brenda

  • WD My Book NAS drive, Cisco VPN router and FTP access

    Hello:
I have a Western Digital My Book World Editon II NAS drive that is connected through a Cisco ASA 5500 VPN router.
This NAS drive has a service to use it as an FTP server using port 21 as default or other specific port.
I also have a XP PC in which I installed Filezilla where I am trying to access the NAS files.
Only problem is that Filezilla apparently connects to the NAS drive but it lists the directory as empty.Changing to Active mode makes no difference.
Does this sounds like a problem with the VPN configuration?
Do I have to configure some kind of port forwarding on the VPN router for port 21?
Or does the VPN router has nothing to do with this problem?
    Thanks for your help

Would you "Solve" this question please ?

  • Can I switch external hard drives and still access old Time Machine backups?

I have a Mac Book Pro linked to 2 1TB external hard drives, one used as my Time Machine Back up, the other used as a manual ad hoc back up and to store even older files.
The TM back up drive is now full. If I just unplug it/switch it off and plug in and set up a new 2TB hard drive as my TM back up, will I still be able to access the back ups on the original TM drive if necessary, through TM?
Wil it be a start over situation with the new drive, performing a complete back up to begin with?
Or would you advise me to transfer the old back folder to the new drive, given that it will be larger?

    Hi den.thed,
Thank you for this - I think the easy option by far appears to be to leave existing backups on disk 1, and plug in disk 2 and start over.
