Mapping keys on Microsoft Keyboard

I have a Microsoft keyboard plugged into my MacBook Pro. Functionally it works fine. But since the keys are mapped in a different way, I constantly screw up the key presses when it's plugged in on my desk, or same thing when I don't have it plugged in and I'm on the road.
I've used DoubleCommand to remap keys before, but it remaps any all all keyboards, and doesn't differentiate between the MBP keyboard and an external keyboards.
Is there a tool or a method that I can not do anything to the MBP, but remap an external Microsoft keyboard?
Thanks!

Anyone? I'm dying over here!

  • Mac keys on Microsoft keyboard

I have a Microsoft wireless desktop 7000 and the Intellipoint 6.2 drivers for the Mac. The keyboard and mouse are recognized by my iMac but how but what is the equivalent of the "command" key on a non-Apple keyboard?

Alt - the one just to the right and left of the spacebar.
That being said, sometimes you have to go in to the preferences and switch the modifier keys because the keyboard itself is programmed to switch Command and Option keys when used on a Mac. It's weird.
Try just using Alt as the command key first. If that doesn't work, try going in to the Keyboard preferences, click the "Modifier Keys..." button, and switch the Option and Command keys around.

  • When I disable my left windows key for gameing using Microsoft keyboard and mouse software, I can no longer type in firefox. How can i fix this?

Microsoft Keyboard and Mouse Software that you install with Microsoft keyboard and mice, (latest version) allows you to disable your windows key so that you don't accidentally hit it when gaming. When I take advantage of this feature, I can no longer type in Firefox. Typing in Firefox is completely disabled. Other browsers, windows, applications work, but not Firefox. What is it about the windows key that firefox needs for typing. Strange problem, but annoying because I have to use a different browser while game. Certainly not a deal breaker, but kinda strange.

  • Key swap problem using Microsoft keyboard with my Mac

The keyboard used with my TiBook is an old (circa 1997) ergonomic "Natural Keyboard" made by Microsoft. I'd like to fix the problem of having the "Command" key function swapped with the "Alt" key. Downloading and installing the latest Microsoft keyboard driver for Mac (for OSX 1 thru 4) didn't fix the problem (even though I checked the box to swap the "Command" key (i.e., the Windows key) and ALT key. Is my keyboard just too old?

  • Windows 7, Microsoft Keyboard Media Keys (Play/Pause), and iTunes

I'm using Windows 7 Ultimate x64 and iTunes 9.0.1.8 with Microsoft Intellipoint 7.0 and a Microsoft Keyboard with media keys.
In previous versions of Windows, iTunes, and Intellipoint, pressing the "play/pause" key on the keyboard would play or pause iTunes -- even when iTunes wasn't the active application.
In my current setup, when iTunes is minimized, then the media keys don't control iTunes.
Is this a bug? Is there something I can do to fix the situation?
I've asked Microsoft for help, and they say it looks to be a compatibility issue with iTunes. So, now I'm asking Apple. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

I have this same problem, but with Windows XP Pro. It MUST be a iTunes and a Microsoft IntelliType driver issue.
I JUST reinstalled my computer and loaded all new everything and the buttons worked off and on (depending on focus). I don't remember doing anything to make it work last time. The only thing I remember was installing a plug-in so my ATI Remote Wonder worked with iTunes.
I downloaded Chris's dll as suggested. Worked flawlessly. I hope Apple and/or Microsoft fix this in the next release of their software.

Hello.  I am using Breeze text editor on my macbook.  To exit the editor I need to use "keypad 8".  Is there a way to map this to the keyboard or a series of shortcut keys?

I have found the solution for myself for the above.  I use a specific scripting program which is accessed by Control A. To pause it, you need to use Control B. not sure if this would work for any other application but it resolves my dilemma after hours of trying!

  • Getting IntelliType for Microsoft keyboards and/or mice to load at startup in Mountain Lion

To date, Microsoft hasn't fixed the issue with the IntelliType drivers in Mountain Lion so they load by themselves. You have to open the System Preferences and click on the Microsoft Keyboard or Mouse panes to get them to load. The following will eliminate the need to perform these manual steps.
I'd like to give credit to the person who first discovered this, but having found the same text in numerous places, I can't single out the origin.
Navigate to the folder /Library/PreferencePanes/ of the startup drive
Right click on Microsoft Mouse.prefpane for mice, Microsoft Keyboard.prefPane for keyboards
From the resulting contextual menu, select Show Package Contents
Navigate down to Contents > Resources
Leave the Resources folder open on the desktop and open the System Preferences
    Select Users & Groups
Click on your user account and then the Login Items tab
Go back to the Resources folder on the desktop, select the file MicrosoftMouseHelper or MicrosoftKeyboardHelper, then drag and drop it into the Login Items window on the right hand side of the Login Items page (in the System Preferences window).
In the sample below, I added the keyboard helper.
Repeat the steps if you added the keyboard helper and also need the mouse helper.
Now when you restart or start up your Mac, these helpers will load automatically.
For users wondering if this is some sort of hack, it is not. If you've used IntelliType in Lion, Snow Leopard, or other previous versions of OS X, you'll see that MicrosoftMouseHelper and/or MicrosoftKeyboardHelper are in the user account Login Items. What's probably happening is security changes in Mountain Lion, such as sandboxing, are preventing these Login Items from being added during installation. So all you're doing is manually completing a step the IntelliType installer is failing at.

how you found this solution is beyond me as i did google a few days ago and found nothing.
I've looked numerous times, also. Must have gotten the right keywords this time.
What symptoms will a poster have if this is the problem?
I can't speak for users of the mouse panel, but if you're using one of the Microsoft keyboards the drivers are for, your keyboard won't be completely functional. Among the problems:
    1) The keyboard will remain mapped for a PC. The Alt (Option) key is next to the spacebar and will stay there, which means the Windows logo key will respond as the Command key, which is between Alt and Ctrl. To the right of the spacebar, the Alt key will again be Option, but the menu key between that and the right Ctrl key won't do anything you expect. To say the least, not having the Command key in its normal Mac position is a real pain.
    2) None of the other special keys will work, like the entire string of silver keys across the top of the 4000.
gave you credit and pointed back to this for ya. great guy.
Thanks! I hadn't seen that site before. Looks like a person could spend days there. I'll have to bookmark that one.
A secondary note: For users wondering if this is some sort of hack, it is not. • Microsoft keyboard forgets it's a Mac keyboard

I have a Microsoft Wireless Keyboard 6000 v3.0 that keeps reverting back to the PC key mapping periodically.  By that I mean the command and option keys on a Mac keyboard need to match up with the Alt and Windows keys on the Microsoft keyboard, but they keep switching back.  I've installed the keyboard driver that came with the keyboard and during installation it allows me to switch the key mapping.  I've also installed a program called DoubleCommand that was listed in another topic here as a fix for the key mapping.  It correctly assigned the key functions, but that also lasted just for a period of time before the key assignments switched back.
The question I'm seeking an answer for here is whether this is a hardware problem with the keyboard, a software problem with the Mac OS, or a software problem with the driver?  Until I can know that answer, I don't know who to contact regarding a solution.

The driver that came with the keyboard is unlikely to be tested for Lion. Try downloading the latest driver from Microsoft.

  • Microsoft Keyboard Layout Creator (MSKLC)

    Hey,
I'm running Windows XP via Boot Camp on my Macbook3,1 and was wondering if anyone ever use "Microsoft Keyboard Layout Creator (MSKLC)"? The reason is that I need help to change the right "Alt/Option" as a "Control (Ctrl)" key instead. Being in Windows I would need 2 Ctrl-keys, one on the left and one on the right. Also, instead of the left-Command-key I would like that to be the "Alt" key on the left and the Right-Command-key be the right-Alt-key instead. Basically map out the Apple keyboard to fit a Windows keyboard etc.
    Thanks!

    Might try them over here.

  • Pressing the enter key on the keyboard

Need to know the trigger or the way to attribute code to pressing de enter key on the Keyboard!!!???
    Thanks!!!!!

    Hi Carlos,
By default, the ENTER key takes the cursor to the next navigable item in the block.
To override this default behaviour it is necessary to modify the forms resource file to revise the key mapping details.
Refer to article 209671.1 on Metalink: How to Change / Customize the Key Mappings for 6i and 9i Webforms?

  • External Microsoft keyboard with Spanish characters

I have a Macbook 2,1 (late 2007) white running 10.6.8.  Have been having reoccurring kernelpanic problems (apparently associated with Skype and video) and Bluetooth connectivitybeing dropped intermittently.  Havedone all of the research that I can on both of these problems and have pursuedalmost every one of the suggestions found on the various support groups toaddress these problems.  Havefinally given up.  One of thefeatures that I’m giving up is Bluetooth, so I am now using a wired mouse(Logitech) and just purchased a Microsoft Wired Keyboard 600 here in Seville,Spain, that claims to be Mac-compatible. This keyboard is a Spanish keyboard.  I have installed the driver software for the Microsoftkeyboard for a Mac, available on the Microsoft support sight.  However, I have not been able to getany of the new or relocated keys to work correctly.  My system does not recognize the placement of the variouskeys and symbols provided by the new keyboard and instead, simply inputs thestandard Apple keyboard key symbols. I’ve worked with Language and Text preferences and the keyboardpreferences but to no avail.  Isthere some way that I can make the keys on the Microsoft keyboard workcorrectly?  Thanks in advance forany help that anyone can provide.

Is one of your problems that the characters typed do not match what is on the keyboard?  In that case you may need to install a special keyboard layout, because PC keyboards are slightly different than the Mac versions.  If you email me I can send you one from Logitech to try (tom at bluesky dot org).

  • Adding keys to Albanian keyboard Layout

    To whom it may concer,
I am writing about this topic due to the issue of currency key in keyboard layout. In some languages there is a key that you can enter directly using a combination of several key like it is in swedish you put Fn + key E you get euro sign.
Is it possible to add such key into Albanian keyboard layout that is provided by OS Windows 8.1?
    Regards
    Ahmet Murati

    Hi
    Ahmet Murati,
According to your description, you want to use a combination of several key to output specific Albanian characters, right? If I misunderstand your true meaning, please feel free to let me know.
I think we need to add Albanian Language firstly.
    1.Open Control Panel, click Language.
2.On the Language, and click "Add a language" option to add Albanian language.
Then, we need to choose this language when you type the word.
    ë = CTRL + " then e, or Alt + 0235
    Ë = CTRL + " then E, or Alt + 0203
    ç = CTRL +, then c, or Alt + 0231
    Ç = CTRL +, then C, or Alt + 0199

  • Microsoft keyboard and Flash

Does anyone know how to get arounf this issue?
When using Flash, Microdedia shortcuts with "F" do not work..
It seems like MC keyborad only designed for application like MC
    word,, Internet etc..

Firstly this is not a Flash issue, it is your lack of
understanding of your own keyboard as on most Microsoft keyboards
there is a 'F' key in the top right to toggle between two modes for
the Function keys these two modes are:
    1. Microsoft Application Shortcuts (on by default)
    2. Function Keys (eg. F1, F2, F3, F4, F5, F6, etc...)
