Mapping of info-objects

Hello Gurus,
We are about to commence our new project DMS (Distributor Management System), where our secondary sales data will be brought into SAP BW and then we have an advantage of analysing them. We are now at the Blue Print stage, where we need to Map these new infoobjects into the existing one. There are quite a lot of new data coming in, which is of secondary customer. Is there a way to easily map these into existing BW Infoobjects? For the timebeing, am checking each and every characteristic to be matched with BW infoobjects in RSA1 and try to find anything similar. Since all these data are not in Our R/3 system at this moment, we dont have field names, but we just have the descriptions of the chars. Let me know if anyone has done this before and is there any easy way of mapping.

Hi Sriram,
Create some customised Info objects with the technical details similar to the existing R/3 fields.
Once you get the confirmation about the field names you can just change them according to the requirement.

You can create an info-object based on 0EMPLSTATUS infoobject which maps to STAT1 from 0HR_PA_1.

How to know the R/3 table field mapped to BW info object!

Hi,
I have an extractor which is extracting the data from R/3 using View in generic data source.
Now i am making a documentaion of each infoobject involved in the extraction of how exactly it is mapped and how is it getting filled.
In transfer rules i could find the R/3 find easily but i want a table as well as i need to make a screen shots as well for the documentaion.
Example, the field AUFNR which is order number is existing in three tables namely AFRU,AUFK and AFKO ( all are used in view definition )
Now how can i ensure that from whcih table the data is getting filled to the BW info object?
Any suggestions would be appreciated .

Error when assigning SID while uploading text in the info-object of the DSO

Hi
I have a scenario where I need to extract a char 60 field from R/3 in the DSO.
I have created the info-object which is char 60 which has the master data text activated.
In the DSO transformation I have mapped it to the R/3 field.
While activating the data in DSO its giving the error message
'Value '20 per action plan' (hex. '32302070657220616374696F6E20706C616E') of characteristic'
'Error when assigning SID: Action VAL_SID_CONVERT InfoObject ZRMSD '
How to overcome this issue.

Change the InfoObject for this text so that it will allow lowercase letters. To do this, go into Change mode on the InfoObject, go to the General tab, check the Lowercase letters checkbox and activate the InfoObject. After this has been activated, you can then restart your process and this SID violation error should no longer be thrown for this.
If you don't want to do this, then you can use the TOUPPER formula in the Characteristic Routine, in the Transformation, to change the value of this field contents to uppercase. This can also be done by using an ABAP routine like this:
TRANSLATE column TO UPPER CASE.

Issue in Hierarchy data upload from R/3 for info object Product Hierarchy.

I am trying to upload the hierarchy data from R/3 system for Info Object Product Hierarchy.
Insted of business content info objects (0PRODH, 0PRODH1, 0PRODH2, 0PRODH3, 0PRODH4, 0PRODH5, 0PRODH6), we are using customized objects (ZPRODH, ZPRODH1, ZPRODH2, ZPRODH3, ZPRODH4, ZPRODH5, ZPRODH6).
In transfer rules the mapped is as specified below
Fields => Info Objects.
0ZPRODH1 => ZPRODH1
0ZPRODH2 => ZPRODH2
0ZPRODH3 => ZPRODH3
0ZPRODH4 => ZPRODH4
0ZPRODH5 => ZPRODH5
0ZPRODH6 => ZPRODH6
Now, when I schedule the Info Package, it is ending with an errors
"Node characteristic 0PRODH1 is not entered as hierarchy charactersitic for ZPRODH"
"Node characteristic 0PRODH2 is not entered as hierarchy charactersitic for ZPRODH"
"Node characteristic 0PRODH3 is not entered as hierarchy charactersitic for ZPRODH"
"Node characteristic 0PRODH4 is not entered as hierarchy charactersitic for ZPRODH"

when i tried to load by flat file, there is no issues. But, flat file loading is not allowed for us.
Please let me know any possible solution to handle this issue.

Insted of using the info object 0PRODH1, we should use customized info object ZPRODH1 which I added already in the external characteristic in Hierarchy.

How to know corresponding info object for R/3 field and viceversa

Hi....
How to know corresponding object for a filed in r/3 data source and viceversa..While defining transformations.
We can't do mapping of all objects to fields with the definition......!!!
In 'rsosfieldmap'' what information we should give to know the proper tranformation...?

Hi,
There are two ways to know the corresponding info objects in R/3 fields:
1) goto se11 t-code, enter RSOSFIELDMAP and enter display button. in the next screen click contents and give the field name or info object name as per your requirement, and excute.
2) first go through the field description in r/3 and identify the similar description in BI. For your easy understanding use excel sheet , in that you can copy the data source fields and target info objects ( master data or transaction data ). then it will be easy to identify the similar description.

An InfoCube describes (from an analysis point of view) a self-contained dataset, for example, for a business-orientated area. You analyze this dataset in a BEx query.
An InfoCube is a set of relational tables arranged according to the star schema: A large fact table in the middle surrounded by several dimension tables.
Use
InfoCubes are filled with data from one or more InfoSources or other InfoProviders. They are available as InfoProviders for analysis and reporting purposes.
Structure
The data is stored physically in an InfoCube. It consists of a number of InfoObjects that are filled with data from staging. It has the structure of a star schema.
The real-time characteristic can be assigned to an InfoCube. Real-time InfoCubes are used differently to standard InfoCubes.

Definition
Business evaluation objects are known in BI as InfoObjects. Use
InfoObjects are the smallest units of BI. Using InfoObjects, information is mapped in a structured form. This is required for constructing InfoProviders.
InfoObjects with attributes or texts can themselves also be InfoProviders (if in a query).

Accomodating date and time in a single Info object

Hi Gurus,
We are getting an R/3 field(2 fields) as "YYYY.MM.DD HH:MM:SS". And we have mapped that fields to a Two IO (CHAR).Data is getting loaded fine,but not getting it in the same format (with required DOTS and COLONS).Is there any routine that I can write for this IO.If any one have it ,please pass it on.
The two info objects are : ZCREATE & CHANGEDAT are mapped to "created_at" & "changed_at".
Please tell me step by step code.
Points wil be assured.
No idea on how to write a routine .

Urgent::::Data is not loaded for a perticular info object in ods

Hi All,
We have loaded data into an ODS( 0PRC_DS01) in development server. It was successfully loaded into it all info objects.Reports were working well.
When we transported it to production, data loading was taking longggg time (15000 for 9 hours).So, we have done two things to improve the loading speed.
1) we have created an index based on the fields in the where clause RCLNT,RLDNR,RYEAR, DOCNR, POPER in JVSO1 table.
(JVSO1 is an R/3 table from where key data coming to datasource 0EN_JVA_2.)
2)We have updated the optmizer statistics.
Now the problem is, data is not loaded to one perticular info object JOINT VENTURE PARTNER in dso. Which was loaded successfully in development.
Please help us........We will assign points for helpful answers

Hi Chek in the transfer and update rules whether u mapped the fields with target and also check whether u have routine. and check whether the data is coming for that object from the source.

Mechanism for Info Object Data elements inherit source documentation?

Say I am in ECC. I go to SE11, give table name MARA and then doubleclick on the dataelement 'MATNR'. Then I click on documentation. I get a popup with Short text " Material Number" and Definition "Alphanumeric key uniquely identifying the material'.
I am interested in the latter information that is 'Definition' - & in general whatever documentation comes up for data element in ECC/CRM/SCM/SRM.
Now I log into SAP BI. I find that under characteristic 0Material, the data element is /BI0/oimaterial. When I double-click this datamaterial and press the documentation button, the system says 'No documentation'.
My Questions:
1. IS there a switch we could turn on in source [ECC/SRM/CRm/SRM] so that the data element in SAP BI inherits the original source field data element documentation.
{ I am not too convinced of the argument- that in BI we have info objects in ECC we have fields - since I am talking of data element level information- I would tend to think of this as an oversight of the designers [or de-prioritization] !!}.
2. Could we have an ABAP workaround? That is, in BI we identify the tables that house the mapping between the source and destination data elementsa and take out this information. Then we extract the dataelement documentation [by function DOCU_GET] and use the mapping info above to link SAP BI data element with source data element documentation.
WHY do I want to punish myself as above? My use case is, we take out SAP BI Table, field, metadata etc and create a model in a modeling tool and physical implementation in a 3rd party DW database as our own canonical, application-agnostic corporate datawarehouse. I would want the source data element documentation to flow to this last system as well as the modeling tool.

Query on Time Dependent Info object

Hi ,
I am trying to create a query out of a time dependent info object.The info object is 0employee and since it is time dependent it has the date from and date to automatically in the infoobject master data. However these fields do not come up as characteristics when a create a query out of this infoobject.
Can you please let me know why or am I missing something ? I know I can get it if i use it in a cube or DSO but i want to create from this infoobject. Please help.

0employee_attr datasource have start and end date is mapped 1:1. target is 0employee? but when i check at 0employee attribute tab i have seen any start and end date attributes.
If you have it in attr u should be able to assign as read from master data.
Otherwise routine will be
SELECT STARTDATE from /BI0/MEMPLOYEE where employee = source_fields-employee.
for start date and
SELECT ENDDATE from /BI0/MEMPLOYEE where employee = source_fields-employee.
for enddate

Text data source and Info object?

Hi I have created Texts data source in R/3 and our onsite folks have asked me to create relavant info objects in BW as well.I need to validate against the data source created in R/ 3for use short med or long text all should support mulilang.Can any body please explain how can I proceed with this ?

It is the other way. Once u tick in the master data tab -what kind of text u want-short,long,medium-then that will appear in your transformation.And u can map any char field from ur data source for these based on the length.
So u can check the datasource definition in rsa2 and determine the length of text field in which ur text data will data.
Based on that select in teh info object, then u will get that to map in transformation.

Generating export datasource for an info object

Hello Guys
I am working on BW 3.5. I need to generate an export data source for an infoobject so that I can load its texts into another target IO. When I go into the infosources tab, and right click on the particular IO, it gives me the option of creating an export data source.
My question is: How do i transport this data source from DEV --> QA? Do we have to re-create the export data source in each system individually, ie DEV, QA and PROD.
Secondly, when I could see the export data source in the the BWQ source system, i tried moving the transfer rules for the DS to the target IO and it gave an error.
Error message:
Mapping between data source 80CRED_GROUPT and source system BWQCLNT100 is inconsistent
Field CRED_GROUP will not be delivered from DataSource 80CRED_GROUPT in source system BWQCLNT100
Field C_CTR_AREA will not be delivered from DataSource 80CRED_GROUPT in source system BWQCLNT100
Field LANGU will not be delivered from DataSource 80CRED_GROUPT in source system BWQCLNT100
Field TXTMD will not be delivered from DataSource 80CRED_GROUPT in source system BWQCLNT100
Why is this happening? And as i asked before, can i transport an export DS or do I create it in each environment individually? Please note: This is an export DS for an info object.

You can transport the export data source across the landscape(Dev to QA).
You do not eed to generate it in each system.
Also ensure that the conversion of logical system names or the source system names has been maintained.
You are right it looks like the data source creation was a problem hence it is not alllowing importing transfer rules.
You may try to recollect the export data source and transport and then once it is transported successfully replicate metadata of the self system.
Now transport the transfer rules.

To Join two SAP fields into one info object

Hi All,
Can you please suggest the best method to concatenate values from two R/3 fields into one info object master data table?
The requirement is to create a Sales report where I need to report on sales against sales type.
Sales type is a list of joint values of item category ( 0ITEM_CATEG) and bill type (0BILL_TYPE).
So, I need a list of all item categories and billing types in a single object and report sales value against it.
Please suggest.

Hi Venkat,
In DSO any case you will not be having more than 16 Keys. I am surprised seeing requirement of more than 16 keys, but anyways you need to go with some workaround.
You can concatenate multiple Fields and map to one Dummy InfoObject which will be Key in DSO so in actual you have more than 16 Keys but have 16 Keys in system.
But analyze requirement in detail because this will increase data redundancy and time for load will get increased.
Also for new issues start new discussion otherwise people will not able to help you in this forum.

Create new or use existing info object ? How to decide ?

I have this question.
I enhanced the data source with a field user ID, now I am mapping it in the transfer rules in bw. When I searched in the system (ctrl F in infobjects of RSA1) I could find related info objects but they are currently being used in several places.
Can I use the existing one or do I have to create new info object ? How can I decide this ?

Hi,
it just depends on the content of the 0USERNAME or 0USER_NAME depending on use. Usually these Infoobjects contain the source system user name (login name) for example the entries maintained in SU01 of the SAP R3 system.
If your extractor delivers the same entry, feel free to use it. If it is another kind of username (i.e. external system, database user etc.) it may be usefull to define a new object. But if you define your own ZUSERNAME Infoobject remember to provide loads for the Text and attribute fields (if required). This is for free, if you can use available infoobject which are already maintained by earlier projects.
