Mapping 'Reset Panel' to keyboard

Is there a way to map 'reset panel' (i.e resetting the video and audio destination tracks to v1, a1,a2) to a keyboard shortcut?
thanks,
John Hepworth

no, but if you right click on the panel area you can choose to reset the panel from the contextual menu.

After reading and resetting everything with Keyboard I still get blank white screen on 2nd? page of boot. The only way I can boot to Mavericks is unplug power cord, push and hold power button while plugging power cord in. Fans run at full speed, machine boots then runs normal except the dvdrw will not . The mid 2011 IMAC had the same problem with LION. I changed hard drives, formatted, and installed a clean install of latest os x mavericks. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Use the uninstaller provided with the Sophos software. You can uninstall CUDA via the preference pane. Be sure you remove the com.nvidia.CUDA extension which is located in the /System/Library/Extensions/ folder. Not sure if Fan Control has an uninstaller so you will have to do it manually:
    Uninstalling Software: The Basics
Most OS X applications are completely self-contained "packages" that can be uninstalled by simply dragging the application to the Trash.  Applications may create preference files that are stored in the /Home/Library/Preferences/ folder.  Although they do nothing once you delete the associated application, they do take up some disk space.  If you want you can look for them in the above location and delete them, too.
Some applications may install an uninstaller program that can be used to remove the application.  In some cases the uninstaller may be part of the application's installer, and is invoked by clicking on a Customize button that will appear during the install process.
Some applications may install components in the /Home/Library/Applications Support/ folder.  You can also check there to see if the application has created a folder.  You can also delete the folder that's in the Applications Support folder.  Again, they don't do anything but take up disk space once the application is trashed.
Some applications may install a startupitem or a Log In item.  Startupitems are usually installed in the /Library/StartupItems/ folder and less often in the /Home/Library/StartupItems/ folder.  Log In Items are set in the Accounts preferences.  Open System Preferences, click on the Accounts icon, then click on the LogIn Items tab.  Locate the item in the list for the application you want to remove and click on the "-" button to delete it from the list.
Some software use startup daemons or agents that are a new feature of the OS.  Look for them in /Library/LaunchAgents/ and /Library/LaunchDaemons/ or in /Home/Library/LaunchAgents/.
If an application installs any other files the best way to track them down is to do a Finder search using the application name or the developer name as the search term.  Unfortunately Spotlight will not look in certain folders by default.  You can modify Spotlight's behavior or use a third-party search utility, EasyFind, instead.
Some applications install a receipt in the /Library/Receipts/ folder.  Usually with the same name as the program or the developer.  The item generally has a ".pkg" extension.  Be sure you also delete this item as some programs use it to determine if it's already installed.
There are many utilities that can uninstall applications.  Here is a selection:
        1. AppZapper
        2. AppDelete
        3. Automaton
        4. Hazel
        5. AppCleaner
        6. CleanApp
        7. iTrash
        8. Amnesia
        9. Uninstaller
      10. Spring Cleaning
For more information visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on removing software.
Be sure to remove your two Login Items. Finally do this:
Reinstall Lion, Mountain Lion, or Mavericks without erasing drive
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Repair
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported then click on the Repair Permissions button. When the process is completed, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion, Mountain Lion, or Mavericks
OS X Mavericks- Reinstall OS X
OS X Mountain Lion- Reinstall OS X
OS X Lion- Reinstall Mac OS X
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet
if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • RESETTING IPHONE 4 KEYBOARD Question

What's up all my apple users...Im always tryping some dumb typo in my texts and the phones dictionary kept them so when I write sometimes it spells stupid stuff...and I was thinking about resetting my iPhones keyboard but I didn't want to reset it and then it'll go into the mode where I'll have to plug my phone into the CPU to start it up all over again...and I wanted to know will it disable the auto-correction option...any help and input will be useful and appreciated...thank you

Great thanks a million...and by the way I had another question if you don't mind helping out...sometimes on the web I save pics to my photo album by holding it for a few seconds until it gives me the option to save the image...and sometimes when they're in my album and I touch them to select them they don't come up I'll have to select the pic before it and slide over to the next one since it doesn't come up when I touch to open it and other times itll be just a white backround with "JPG" in it...is this just because the pics online are posted a certain way or is this the phone?

Should I check the memory cards themselves? Reseat them?
    Yes.
Memtest X or Rember to test the RAM.
    Reseat is also good.
The iPhone 4 doesn't like USB 1.1 much.
after the update the computer was working well, except for this freeze when ever I connect iPhone.
I'd try USB 2.0 PCI. That's how I connect my iPhone 4s, and have connected all iPhones and iPods, to my G4.
    Never an issue.
Can't say the same for USB 1.1.......
The above (previous post) linked PCI card is cheap enough.
    Want cheaper, try this:

The NEC chipset is the desired chipset, regardless of what OS the maker says is compatible.
OS X has native NEC chipset USB support.

  • How can I reset my bluetooth keyboard?

I would like to reset my bluetooth keyboard. Is there a button for that? Where do I find it?

Swear to GAWD this will work to pair a wireless keyboard that is not working: HOLD DOWN THE BUTTON AT THE RIGHT FOR 6 ENTIRE SECONDS. This turns off the device. Then tap the button ONCE (don't hold down, just tap). The keyboard will turn on again and begin blinking. Then go to Bluetooth Setup Assistant. Your wireless keyboard will now show up. Follow the process for pairing.
I tried everything else on the discussion boards, too; wasted 3 hours trying to pair with other devices to no avail; could not find a serial number (turns out they don't have one) to register it; tried the steel wool trick even...NOTHING.
    Anyway, hope this helps!

Hello.  I am using Breeze text editor on my macbook.  To exit the editor I need to use "keypad 8".  Is there a way to map this to the keyboard or a series of shortcut keys?

I have found the solution for myself for the above.  I use a specific scripting program which is accessed by Control A. To pause it, you need to use Control B. not sure if this would work for any other application but it resolves my dilemma after hours of trying!

  • How do you reset the special keyboard function keys?

I used to use an older external keyboard that had Dashboard as F4. Now I got a newer keyboard that has Launchpad as F4. I was used to the old way, so I went into the keyboard shortcut for Dashboard and set it as F4. To my disappointment, however, it only works when I hold 'fn'. (I didn't expect this, as when the key was set to F13 holding fn wasn't required.) So anyway, that is even worse, and I wanted to change it back. However, it wouldn't let me. (In Launchpad & Dock > Keyboard Shortcuts, there used to be a checkmark next to Show Launchpad with a blank area on the right, but now when I try to click Restore Defaults, it forces me to choose a key... and pressing F4 without holding fn doesn't register.) And I know I can make it use all function keys as standard function keys, but not just for F4. And if I do it for all of them, I lose the other keyboard controls and I don't want that. I don't want to have to be stuck with the FunctionFlip 3rd party tool forever... How can I actually reset they key (or ideally, make it bring up dashboard without holding down fn)? You'd think that if it's so simple to change a setting one way it would be simple to change back. I'd even delete some prefs file if i had to.

I figured out that if you remove the ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.symbolichotkeys.plist file and restart, that restores the keyboard.
Second question: Is there any way to make F4 (without holding fn) bring up Dashboard on Lion that doesn't require FunctionFlip? If it matters, I have a Time Machine backup of the symbolichotkeys.plist file from when I had the older keyboard.

  • Mapping problem with Wireless Keyboard and Japanese iPhone

    Hi everyone:
This seems to be a slightly obscure question -- at least, I can't find a ready answer for it with the search terms I've tried, possibly because most people don't use this particular accessory with the iPhone.
I have an iPhone 4 that I bought from and use on Softbank, the carrier in Japan, where I live.  While visiting the United States recently, I bought an Apple Wireless Keyboard from an Apple retailer.   I wanted to carry it with me for use with my iPhone, so I would reliably have a convenient way to access the Internet without being confined to the touchscreen keyboard.  (I live in a rural area where WiFi spots are uncommon, but my iPhone's access to Softbank's data network is fairly good and consistent.)
However, to my frustration, I can't use the keyboard due to a mapping problem.  The Bluetooth connection is fine -- the iPhone can discover the keyboard.  However, the mapping is off: typing "Q" gets me "A," typing "Z" gets me "W", numbers and punctuation are off, etc.  The key point: This is NOT a problem with the International Keyboard settings (under the Settings -> General -> Keyboard -> International Keyboards menu).  I have the Keyboard setting set to QWERTY, which is the layout of the Apple keyboard; I have tried all the other possibilities, just in case.  None of them work.  Setting the Keyboard setting to QWERTY does not make the external QWERTY keyboard map correctly.
The rather ironic addendum is this: While on a recent trip to Tokyo, I visited the Apple store in Shibuya and, after concluding the main business of my visit (discussing my MacBook's battery problems with an English-speaking staffer), I took out my iPhone and keyboard and asked him about my mapping problem.  He started with the Keyboard menu, tried the same things I had tried, realized they weren't working, and puzzled over the problem for a while.  Then he did this: He hit a key combination (I believe) that brought up a menu on the iPhone's screen.  "Ah, there's your problem," he said, and selected a new setting.  The problem was instantly fixed.
To my chagrin, however, I neglected to write down what "Ken" had done to fix the problem.  Argh... I was looking at the iPhone upside-down; I'd already taken up more than half an hour; people were waiting, and I guess, being used to living in the countryside now, that I'm not used to Shibuya crowds any more.  Anyway, I didn't take careful notes or ask him to walk me through it, and now I cannot recall or repeat what he did.  And I still can't use my keyboard!
Any ideas or advice, anyone?  How did "Ken" fix my problem, and how can I repeat it?  Much, much appreciated, in advance.

THAT'S IT.  Sir, you have solved my problem.  Thank you!!
And I feel a little silly; this will doubtless seem to an expert as if it should have been obvious all along.  But isn't that always the way in hindsight?
Here's what happened: The key combination I was trying to remember was "Apple/command + space on the hardware keyboard," as you just said above.  The "menu" it brings up is, apparently, a list of keyboards.  I take it that this list is the same as the list of the "virtual" keyboards on the iPhone?  I have never had more than one external keyboard -- the Apple Wireless -- but I do have several keyboards active virtually, as the iPhone in Japan seems to come with both the "Nihongo Ten-key" and the "Nihongo Romaji" keyboards active, and I added several other languages as well.
When I hit "Apple/command + space," this list comes up on the iPhone's touchscreen.  Highlighted and checked at the top is "English," just as if it had been selected all along.  But nonetheless, when I first turn on and pair my keyboard with the iPhone, I need to perform this key-combination action, as if to "reselect" English, and then the keyboard promptly starts working properly as QWERTY.  I can only assume that one of the others had been default-selected before -- presumably one of the Nihongo ones? -- and that this was causing the interference.
Thank you again!  You have made me and my wireless keyboard very happy.

  • Mapping Video Playback to Keyboard Functions

Periodically I need to change my Video Playback to my second monitor by going to View > Video Playback > Digital Cinema Desktop PREVIEW.
I once did it to "Preview - MAIN" in Motion and couldn't get it to come off unless I trashed my preferences. I'm rather concerned that in a sleepy moment my mouse will slip and I'll hit MAIN. Is there a way to map these functions (or any other menu combinations) to the Keyboard so I can just bring it up with a simple keystroke? Or is it simple called something particular in the Keyboard layout that I haven't figured out yet?
    Thanks
    Joel

The shortcut exists already. Command & F12 keys.

  • Mapping keys on Microsoft Keyboard

I have a Microsoft keyboard plugged into my MacBook Pro. Functionally it works fine. But since the keys are mapped in a different way, I constantly screw up the key presses when it's plugged in on my desk, or same thing when I don't have it plugged in and I'm on the road.
I've used DoubleCommand to remap keys before, but it remaps any all all keyboards, and doesn't differentiate between the MBP keyboard and an external keyboards.
Is there a tool or a method that I can not do anything to the MBP, but remap an external Microsoft keyboard?
    Thanks!

    Anyone? I'm dying over here!

  • Mapping Audio Clips to Keyboard

I have finally gotten around to trying what HangTime described at this link (mapping sounds to keyboard)...
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=931372&tstart=0
...I cannot seem to get this to work. I create a small audio clip (it is purple), I open up Musical Typing, drag the clip to a key, and it just bounces back and does not assign.
    Am I missing a step?

I think I somehow set it up that way.
HangTime, here is something WILD! You're gonna LOVE this.
I did an experiment with this sound assignment thing and found that it created an EXS file in the project file. I did a little trickery, and created my own EXS instrument!! I could not believe it worked! I'm going to have to write up the steps on how to do this.

  • How can I map remote presses to keyboard commands WITOUT using LIRC?

Hi, i'm tearing my hair out here, and I'm really starting from scratch here now I guess.
I have a media centre USB remote, that I would like to map (using evdev, as I gather you can do that now) each button press to a single letter on the keyboard, so that when I press the Play button on my remote, it's as though I typed the letter P on the keyboard.

    Well look at ir-keytable....
Anyway first off, I want to either disable the current device that's at rc0, or move it away so that my usb remote goes onto rc0, can anyone help?

I've got a 1Ghz iBook G4 that seems like it needs its PMU reset. Is there a way to do this without the original keyboard? I tried it with a USB keyboard and it didn't seem to work.

    Hey Ken,
If you are looking to reset the pram or nvram you can do so with sever monitor on a remote machine.
In server monitor you can click on the restart button and then select "on the next restart" Reset NVRAM and then select the first bootable drive.
It sounds more the like the system management controller is what you are looking for though as it controls the fans.
    Follow these instructions for tha
    1. Shut down the computer.
