  • Mapping Techniques determines Runtime Performance

    What mapping technique offers the best performance at runtime (i.e. graphical, ABAP, Java, XSLT)?  I have the ability to use anyone of these techniques, but I want to ensure I am using the one that offers the best performance at runtime, not the quickest/easiest to implement at design time.

    Hi..
    imo mapping performance does only partially depend on technique used, another important influence is the developer himself. You can develop highly performant graphical mappings, java mappings and also XSLT mappings but you have to focus on performance, know the concepts and maybe have someone else look at the mapping after it is finished I'm not sure about ABAP mapping, but i would say graphical and custom java have the same performance. XSLT is indeed slower, but there are some problems which can not be solved in graphical mapping (e.g. recursion) which can be solved rather easily in XSLT. Also SAP uses XSLT extensively in their standard content (e.g. MDM 3.0) where we have not encountered serious performance problems so far.

  • Graphical Mapping Vs XSLT mapping Vs Java Mapping Vs ABAP Mapping

    Hi Experts,
              I have a question regarding different message mapping options available in XI namely
    Graphical Mapping
    XSLT mapping
    Java Mapping
    ABAP Mapping
    Q1: Which amoung the above mappings is the best and why?
    Q2: On what cases Graphical, XSLT, Java and ABAP Mapping should be used?
    Q3: Is it true that graphical and XSLT mappings are converted into Java class internally?
    Kindly help!

    Hi,
    There is no hard and fast rule for using the mapping techniques.
    Graphical Mapping is used for simple mapping cases. When, the logic for your mapping is simple and straight forward and it does not involve mult hiearchical mapping requirement. and context handling.
    Java and XSLT mapping are used when graphical mapping cannot help you.
    When the choice is between Java And XSLT, XSLT is simpler than java mapping and easier. But, it has its drawbacks.  XSLT can lead to a bad perfrormance if the Source XML is huge.
    Java Mapping uses 2 types of parsers. DOM and SAX. DOM is easier to use with lots of classes to help you create nodes and elements, but , DOM is very processor intensive.
    SAX parser is something that parses your XML one after the other, and so is not processor intensive. But, it is not exaclty easy to develop either.

    Am not sure about XSLT , but , yes graphical mapping is converted into java classes internally and these classes use SAX parsing as well.

  • Java ,abap and XSLT mapping

    Hi all,
               can any one provide some material on java ,ABA and XSLT mapping(as i got requirement on my current project)..
    thanks in advance.

    Hi
       All mapping related links
    There is no hard and fast rule for using the mapping techniques.
    Graphical Mapping is used for simple mapping cases. When, the logic for your mapping is simple and straight forward and it does not involve any complex logic.
    Java and XSLT mapping are used when graphical mapping cannot help you and you have multilevel hierarchy structure data.
    When the choice is between Java and XSLT, XSLT is simpler than java mapping and easier. But, it has its drawbacks. One among them being that you cannot use Java APIs and Classes in it. There might be cases in your mapping when you will have to perform something like a properties file look up or a DB lookup, such scenarios are not possible in XSLT and so, when you want to use some specific Java API's you will have to go for Java Mapping.
    Java Mapping uses 2 types of parsers. DOM and SAX. DOM is easier to use with lots of classes to help you create nodes and elements, but, DOM is very processor intensive.
    SAX parser is something that parses your XML one after the other, and so is not processor intensive. But, it is not exactly easy to develop either.
    To know more about each of them please go thru the following links. And if you ask me your which is better, it depends basically on the scenario you implementing and the complexity involved. Anyways please go thru the following links:

    Hi,
    Hope the following link gives you an idea of use case of different mapping techniques
    [Mapping Technique|http://wiki.sdn.sap.com/wiki/display/XI/Mapping+Techniques]
    [ABAP mapping implementation|http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/media/uuid/a15a5f77-0c01-0010-cfa1-94ca75306537]

    To give an example, Usually file content conversion feature of file communication channel does not support the content conversion of structures with deep hierarchy then in that case we can go for XSLT mapping as with graphical mapping we cannot create text file for structure with deep hierarchy.
    You get more understanding on the use case when you develop different scenarios there are too many to list.
    Hope this helps !!!

  • Mapping - Questions

    Hi,
       I have few basic questions regarding mappings.
       1)  I think we can do everything by using Graphical Mapping. Then what is the purpose for Java, XSLT and ABAP mapping? Please give me an example for this...
       2) Which mapping will give better performance? Is there any comparison document available in SDN?
      Appreciate your help!
    Thanks,

    hi,
    Mapping Techniques
    XI provides 3 standard ways of interface mapping between source and target.
    Graphical mapping
    Java Mapping
    XSLT Mapping
    Two more additional mapping types can be activated in XI by making changes to the exchange profile. Those two mappings are
    ABAP mapping
    XSLT mapping with ABAP Extensions
    Graphical Mapping
    Graphical mapping is a common approach followed by everyone for generating desired target structure. It involves simple drag-n-drop to correlate respective nodes (fields) from source and target structure. It hardly involves coding. (Exception - User defined functions). But sometimes with graphical mapping it is difficult to produce required output. For example ... text/html output, namespace change, sorting or grouping of records etc.
    ABAP Mapping
    A person comfortable with Object Oriented ABAP can go for ABAP mapping instead.
    Java Mapping
    Java Mapping uses 2 types of parsers. DOM and SAX. DOM is easier to use with lots of classes to help you create nodes and elements, but , DOM is very processor intensive.
    SAX parser is something that parses your XML one after the other, and so is not processor intensive. But, it is not exaclty easy to develop either.
    XSLT Mapping
    One can also think of Java mapping as another option but it is a bit complex and required knowledge of Java. In such cases, XSLT mapping can be the best approach to meet the requirements.

  • ABAP and Java mapping

    Wanted to confirm my understaing for ABAP and JAVA mapping.
    Am I correct in my assumption that these mapping techniques can be used only if input and ouput is in XML format ?
    So if XI is receiving a flat comma separated text/non-XML file or an IDOC for that matter and output is NOT in XML format, say again flat text file or IDOC, I cannot use above two techniques?
    All the docs I have read suggest that 'Execute' method is called when XML file/data is received, paresed using DOM/SAX/JAXB (for Java mapping) or IXML lib (for ABAP mapping) and then create a output XML file.
    -Thanks in advance

    Hi Bob,
    Here you have a code sample for deescaping. I have have written this code a couple of time ago. The incoming file can be any text format. It might be XML, but not necessarily.
    The main method is not reqired, but good for testing.

    Hi Prasad,
    There is no hard and fast rule for using the mapping techniques.
    <b>
    Graphical Mapping </b>is used for simple mapping cases. When, the logic for your mapping is simple and straight forward and it does not involve any complex logic.
    <b>
    Java and XSLT mapping</b> are used when graphical mapping cannot help you and you have multilevel hierarchy structure data.

    Hi,
    I thought i will start of from scratch.Mapping is basically done to convert one form of xml into another form. This can be done using either of them mentioned below.
    - Graphical mapping

  • Mapping IDOC to 810

    Hello,
    I try to implement scenario from IDOC to EDI 810
    I work with ItemField converter and I have XSD that represent the structure of the EDI 810.
    My problem is to map the IDOC to 810.
    I have a problem with segments TDS, SAC, CTT, SE, GE, IEA.
    This segment is not come directly from the IDOC and I need to calculate them.
    I'll be happy to learn from your experience.

    Hi,
    The best thing i would suggest is to use Java Mapping.
    Got thro these blogs for Java Mapping:
    Java Mapping (Part I)
    Java Mapping (Part II)
    Java Mapping (Part III)
    I dont think other mapping techniques may be used to solve your problem in an optimized manner. May be if graphical mapping is possible u can go for that.it is better to develop a java adapter and run on standalone adapter enginer..
    Here is document how to develop adapter modules:

  • How to map IDoc segment with qualifiers

    Hi everyone!
    I have the following problem: In an IDoc of type DESADV01 there can be several segments of type E2EDS01. Each segment has a different qualifier, which is the value of the field SUMID in this case. My target structure (type EDIFACT) now has several segments, each again with a sort of qualifier. Now I have to map the values of certain source segments to the respective target segments.
    Exaple (in XML format):
    Source
      <E1EDS01 SEGMENT="1">
        <SUMID>021</SUMID>
        <SUMME>0000000001.000</SUMME>
        <SUNIT>KGM</SUNIT>
      </E1EDS01>
      <E1EDS01 SEGMENT="1">
        <SUMID>022</SUMID>
        <SUMME>0000000001.000</SUMME>
        <SUNIT>KGM</SUNIT>
      </E1EDS01>
    Target
      <S_MEA>
        <C_C502>
          <D_6313>N</D_6313>
        </C_C502>
        <C_C174>
          <D_6411>KGM</D_6411>
          <D_6314>1</D_6314>
        </C_C174>
      </S_MEA>
      <S_MEA>
        <C_C502>
          <D_6313>G</D_6313>
        </C_C502>
        <C_C174>
          <D_6411>KGM</D_6411>
          <D_6314>1</D_6314>
        </C_C174>
      </S_MEA>
    (i have omitted several details here, but I'm only interested in the general procedure anyway).
    So in general the source segment with qualifier "021" should be mapped to a target structure with qualifier "N" etc.
    How can this be done using standard XI mapping techniques?
    Regards, Joerg

    Hi everyone!
    Thanks for your input data - unfortunately this wasn't quite what I was looking for. However I thik I solved my original problem and I just wanted to share this solution with you - maybe it helps others, maybe some of you have suggestions what I could do differently.
    To sum up the requirement: There can be multiple input segments, each with a certain qualifier. These input segments have to be mapped to the target segments, respectively - however, the qualifiers change. There can be several segments with qualifiers that do not match the requirement, and required segments might be missing.
    So here's what I came up with:
    Use the qualifier of the source segments as an input to a <b>FixValues</b> function. In this function, map the desired qualifiers to the value <b>true</b>, use <b>false</b> as the default value. Map the output of the <b>FixValues</b> function to a <b>createIf</b> function and use this to create the desired output segment. This way, for each of the required segments, one target segment will be created. All other segments (with unwanted qualifiers) will be removed.
    So far, this technique worked for me - do you have improvements/suggestions?
    Regards, Joerg

  • Mapping functions in XI

    HI
    Mapping Techniques in XI
    Different Mapping Techniques are available in XI. They are: Message Mapping, XSLT Mapping, Java Mapping and ABAP mapping.
    u2022The integration repository includes a graphical mapping editor. It includes built-in functions for value transformations and queue and context handling.  There is an interface for writing user-defined functions (java) as well.
    u2022XSLT mappings can be imported into the Integration Repository; java methods can be called from within the XSLT style sheet. Advantages of this mapping are: open standard, portable, extensible via Java user-defined functions.
    u2022If the transformation is very complex, it may be easiest to leverage the power of Java for mapping.
    u2022ABAP mapping programs can also be written to transform the message structures.
    Message Mapping
    SAP XI provides a graphical mapping tool that generates a java mapping program to be called at run time.
    u2022Graphically define mapping rules between source and target message types.
    u2022Queue-based model allows for handling of extremely large documents.
    u2022Drag-and-drop.
    u2022Generates internal Java Code.
    u2022Built-in and user-defined functions (in Java)
    u2022Integrated testing tool.
    u2022N:M mapping is possible.
    Message mapping are of 2 types.
    a.Structure Mapping: transform entire message structure.
    b.Value Mapping:     Transform values within messages.
    Interface Mapping
    An interface mapping registers a pair of interfaces for use in a scenario, and specifies the message mapping(s) to be used.
    u2022Representation of mapping at the interface level.
    u2022Mapping programs can be called sequentially.
    u2022For synchronous interfaces, a request and response mapping can be provided.
    JAVA MAPPING:
    Usually Java mapping is preferred when the target structure is relatively complex and the transformation cannot be accomplished by simple graphical mapping.
