Mapping the destination for projects and media?

can I map the destination for projects, folders, and media to a LAN file server via ethernet? I want to setup 5 iMacs for a college course, connected to a network server. Ideally, students can log-on to any of the 5 iMacs and edit projects to/from the server. Is this possible? How? I know I can import files and events from other locations, but what about direct editing?

We will be shooting MiniDV footage, not HD.

Create required info objects and Activate.
2. Creation of Data Source
In the left panel select data sources
Create application component(AC)
Right click AC and create datasource
Specify data source name, source system, and data type ( Transaction data )
In general tab give short, medium, and long description.
In extraction tab specify file path, header rows to be ignored, data format(csv) and data separator( , )
In proposal tab load example data and verify it.
In field tab you can you can give the technical name of info objects in the template and you not have to map during the transformation the server will automatically map accordingly. If you are not mapping in this field tab you have to manually map during the transformation in Info providers.
Activate data source and read preview data under preview tab.
Create info package by right clicking data source and in schedule tab click star to load data to PSA.( make sure to close the flat file during loading )
3. Creation of data targets
In left panel select info provider
Select created info area and right click to create ODS( Data store object ) or Cube.
Specify name fro the ODS or cube and click create
From the template window select the required characteristics and key figures and drag and drop it into the DATA FIELD and KEY FIELDS
Click Activate.
Right click on ODS or Cube and select create transformation.
In source of transformation , select object type( data source) and specify its name and source system Note: Source system will be a temporary folder or package into which data is getting stored
Activate created transformation
Create Data transfer process (DTP) by right clicking the master data attributes
In extraction tab specify extraction mode ( full)
In update tab specify error handling ( request green)
Activate DTP and in execute tab click execute button to load data in data targets.
4. Monitor
Right Click data targets and select manage and in contents tab select contents to view the loaded data. There are two tables in ODS new table and active table to load data from new table to active table you have to activate after selecting the loaded data . Alternatively monitor icon can be used.

Is iWork soon to be the same for iOS and Mac

I have a Macbook White 2009. I was looking in the MacApp Store and I noticed that iWork and Microsoft apps cost the same. I wanted to know which are better? I also noticed that iWork has different prices for a Mac and for an iPad because they don't have the same features. About a week ago I had to install a new operating system and everything was erased, among those apps were Microsoft Word, Powerpoint and Excel. Since Mac OS X and iOS are two different platforms, it's not really possible for the applications to be the same. They may have the same or at least similar functionality, however.
The Apple stores will not install software that you do not have the media for. You can purchase MS Office 2011 Home and Student Edition from Microsoft online for download very inexpensively - about $140.

Apple's official advice is here... HT2905 - How to find and remove duplicate items in your iTunes library. It is a manual process and the article fails to explain some of the potential pitfalls.
Use Shift > View > Show Exact Duplicate Items to display duplicates as this is normally a more useful selection. You need to manually select all but one of each group of identical tracks to remove. Sorting the list by Date Added may make it easier to select the appropriate tracks, however this works best when performed immediately after the dupes have been created. If you have multiple entries in iTunes connected to the same file on the hard drive then don't send to the recycle bin. This can happen, for example, if you start iTunes with a disconnected external drive, then connect it, reimport from your media folder, then restart iTunes.
Use my DeDuper script if you're not sure, don't want to do it by hand, or want to preserve ratings, play counts and playlist membership. See this thread for background. Please take note of the warning to backup your library before deduping, whether you do so by hand or using my script, in case something goes wrong.

Compress command, can I change the destination for the ".zip" file?

I cannot find a "User's Manual" for my OS 10.5.8. Hence my question. I have used up all but 1% of my hard disc space. Now I wish to compress and backup my iPhoto files (44Gb) specifying (?sp) my backup drive as the destination for the compressed file. I wish to compress directly to the Seagate (?) firewire drive but I see no way to set the destination drive. Is that possible to do?

You cannot do that using the built-in archiving utility. Archiving such a large folder is not a great idea. You have a backup drive so I suggest you copy the folder directly to the backup drive. I also suggest doing this with a backup utility such as Carbon Copy Cloner - CNet Downloads or MacUpdate.
Here's a useful rule of thumb. The amount of free space on your system volume should be 15 GBs or 10% of the hard drive's capacity, whichever is greater. You have too little free space. There's great risk of severe directory and/or file corruption.

It is not possible to merge Apple IDs.

An "other" larger than about 1 1/2 GB indicates corrupted files.

update : so after reading numerous posts, I tried unchecking entire playlist and just tried one of my playlists. That sync seemed to work, so I rechecked entire playlist and did the sync. It worked. Then I went in to my "walk to work" playlist and added some songs to see if it would sync now, and it did!!! so happy now. will see what happens tomorrow.
