Mapping the "fn" key to a key on an external extended keyboard

Is it possible to map the "fn" key found on Macbooks to a key (such as the RH Control Key) on the current Apple extended keyboard?
I use an extended keyboard with my Macbook Pro and wish to have access to the fn functions like I do on the Macbook's keyboard.
Thanks.

Oh my gosh I can't believe it you are right - there it is under F13 staring at me.
I have had so many years of that being the "help" key that I didn't notice it had changed on the new aluminium keyboards.
Thank you for pointing it out.

  • Keys on my t61p are mapped the same?

    Hi there,
    I have got a little problem with my T61P. I have had contact with microsoft, but they couldn't help me further, so I'm asking here the following issue;
    My "2" and "F12" keys are mapped the same. They do excact the same thing! They both excecute the 2 function and the F12 function at the same time. I also have got this problem with 2 other keys (forgot them). Is there anyone who can help me solving this problem?
    Ps. F12 in microsoft office is "save-as" So it is very annoying

  • Mapping in OWB with primary key and foreign key relationship

    Hi all,
    I am new to this datawarehousing field. I have just started my career. I have to now create a mapping in owb where a table has a field which is a primary key of another table in the same staging area. If you guys could help me out with the a method it can be created that would be very helpful to me.
    I thought of 2 ideas,
    1. If I can use a look up, but then I am not sure if i can use a lookup for primary key, foreign key relationship. If I can use also, I do not know how to use that.
    2. What if I can directly take that the first table and link the primary key of that table to the second table which uses that primary key of the first table as one of its fields.
    I do not know how feasible these methods are. Please guys help me out.
    Thanks in advance.

    I have a similar case where table a and table b having relation but table a got inserted with data and table b is empty so there no values for foriegn key column in table b to realte with table a.
    Now i want to load table b foriegn key with primary key column values of table a.
    how can we do this in owb
    thanks

  • Legacy Mapping Problem: Compound PK is Foreign Key

    My job is to map beans using JPA onto a legacy database schema that must not get modified. I am stuck with doing the relation between two tables.
    The schema is:
    CREATE TABLE A (
         a1 INTEGER NOT NULL,
         a2 INTEGER NOT NULL,
         PRIMARY KEY (a1, a2)
    CREATE TABLE B (
         b1 INTEGER NOT NULL,
         b2 INTEGER NOT NULL,
         b3 INTEGER NOT NULL,
         FOREIGN KEY f (b1, b2) REFERENCES A (a1, b2) ON UPDATE CASCADE ON DELETE CASCADE,
         PRIMARY KEY (b1, b2, b3)
    )As you can see, both tables have compound primary keys, and the primary key of table B contains a foreign key to table A. This is typical in our DB because B in fact acts like a "inner table" (in the sense of "inner class") to A.
    So far I defined both classes and provided a primary key, but the question now is, how to provide the relation between both? The relation shall be unidirectional, so that I can query all Bs belonging to one A by "myA.getBs(): Collection".
    The code I have written so far is:
    @Entity
    public class A {
         @EmbeddedId
         private APK primaryKey;
         @OneToMany
         private Collection<B> characteristics;
    @Embeddable
    public class APK {
         private String a1;
         private String a2;
    @Entity
    public class B {
         @EmbeddedId
         private BPK primaryKey;
    @Embeddable
    public class BPK {
         private String b1;
         private String b2;
         private String b3;
    }Unfortunately that is not working, because the JPA Provider (here: TopLink Essentials) tries to map the relationship on a third table named "A_B" that actually is not there.
    So how to tell TopLink to find the mapping information in table B (just like using the foreign key f)?
    Please help, I am driving nuts!

    OK
    So i found out the real problem
    And the problem is that my CustomerHistory has a Text Field, as in a MS SQL Server TEXT Field
    When i changed it to a VARCHAR, it started working
    The strangest thing is that Customer also has a TEXT Field (mapped to a String) and i can do Finds without any problems
    So my question now is how can i work with TEXT in CMPs ?
    Thanks

  • Mapping error at deployment with foreign key data rule

    I have created data rules for enabling foreign key constraints. There are 4 foreign key constraints on the fact table.
    For the 1st foreign key ... its a single key match key1 on table 1
    For the others, its a composite key .. key1 and key2 on table 2
    key1 and key3 on table 3
    key1 and key4 on table 4
    When I implement with the single key foreign key constraint the mapping works fine. But when I apply the other foreign key data rules for composite keys, I get the following message while deploying ....

    Any suggestions. Help !!!!
    Regards,

    Hi AW,
    How can I overcome this situation ?The best solution as suggested by Jörg is use of surrogate keys.
    For every production key (composite or single) generate a corresponding surrogate key using sequence operator in staging area.
    This will not just solve your problem but it will be faster also (the joins will be faster with system-generated sequence numbers),
    In a data warehouse use of production keys as primary key for linking with (foreign key) is not recommended, keep the production keys as additional attributes.

    Regards
    Srinivas

    Hi Srinivas,
                   map the key field to the parent record of the target field. Use the split by value and change the source key field level to higher one so that the all occurences of the key field are occuring. The mapping will be like this;
    Source Key Field (change to higher level) --> Spli by value --> Filename creation UDF --> Target header field.
    Try this.
    Regards,
    Murugavel.

  • What's the best for green screen filter  Color Key or Chroma key?

    What is the difference, and what is the best choice for a person standing in front of a green screen.
    Color Key or Choma key?
    Which offers the most solutions for dealing with variations in the green background, such as occasional wrinkles/seams in the fabric.
    Thanks
    Rowby

    I did mean Adobe Ultra or previously Serious Magic Ultra. I have no personal experience with Primatte, but have heard very positive reports. For relatively simple work with a good green/blue screen, which is properly lighted and not too much wrinkles, Ultra is easy, fast and effective, but it pays to have a look at the tutorials on how to setup a proper key. When you have rather bad lighting on the screen, Keylight is better and adds more flexibility, but is harder to master than Ultra. It also lacks the MSL (Master Set Libraries) capabilities of Ultra, but if you have never used Ultra before, you may be hard pressed to find any of the MSL's from the Serious Magic era around. Adobe has apparently stopped selling those, apart from the basic one which is included with Ultra. Maybe Karl Soule or Mark Mapes, previous Serious Magicians, can shed some light on the future of Ultra in the Adobe portfolio.

  • What happens to the function keys when i unplug the extended keyboard?

    i use my laptop (12 function keys) with a wired apple aluminum extended keyboard (19 function keys). i assigned a few functions (screen shots mostly) to the upper function keys on the keyboard... f16-f19. but when i unplug the keyboard i'm not sure how to get those functions on the laptop keyboard.
    what happens to those functions when the keyboard is unplugged? is there a way to map those functions to the keyboard so that they are re-assigned when it's unplugged?

    wilyliang wrote:
    question still remains: do f16, etc., exist or can they be re-invented once the USB keyboard is removed (besides having to re-map the shortcuts each time)?
    I haven't found a way, though there might be.
    or even: is it possible to assign two different key combos/function keys to a single command/shortcut?
    Now that depends on the application that's assigning the shortcuts. Some Microsoft and Adobe apps allow multiple shortcuts per function, I've taken advantage of those a few times myself. But cheaper apps often cut you off at one shortcut.

  • How can I get the F8 and F9 function keys in FM 10.0 to work like they did in FM 7.1?

    We just purchased the Adobe Technical Communications Suite 10.0 and have FrameMaker 10.0 installed. What's frustrating is that F8 and F9 work "sometimes" to provide a shortcut to text formatting and paragraph formatting, but they don't work consistently. Is this a bug? I need a fix that would get them to work consistently. (Alt+OPC to format text with the default font is another key combination that works, but it doesn't work consistently.)
    thanks in advance!

    Thanks for your reply, Matt, but neither Control+8 or Control+9 work for me either.
    I've looked at the keyboard shortcuts in the online help. There are several that don't work for me, but there are a couple that do. When there is a shortcut that won't work for me, the words, "Not Applicable" appear in the status bar.
    These Don't work for me:
    Apply a paragraph format: Esc q p, F9, Control+9
    Apply a character format: Esc q c, F8, Control+8
    Apply default font to formatted characters: Esc o c p (opens the CMS Preferences dialog instead - weird!)
    These Do work for me:
    Repeat last action: F6
    Start paragraph anywhere: Esc j Shift+a
    Start paragraph at top of page: Esc j Shift+p
    Apply default font to formatted characters:  Alt+ocp from FrameMaker 7.1 works for me
    (There's others that work for me, but the one's I'd most likely use via keystrokes are listed above.)

    Christy

  • Outlook 2013 - Password change breaks S/MIME Certs "An error occurred in the underlying security system. Key not valid for us in specified state."

    AD password change comes up, user changes password.
    Tries to send signed or encrypted email with a Comodo S/MIME certificate, and gets the following error:
    ""An error occurred in the underlying security system.  Key not valid for us in specified state."
    I now have two reports of this error - one on Windows 7, and one on Windows 8.0 (remote user).
    The one on Windows 8.0, we tried removing their S/MIME cert from Outlook/Windows and re-adding, this did NOT resolve the issue.
    Plan was originally to have the 8.0 user ship their machine in, and wipe it, since nothing else could fix it and I wasn't finding anyone else with the same issue.  Now that I've got a second user with the same issue, its looking like a bug/issue and
    not a random glitch.
    Thanks in advance for any and all help with this!

    Hi,
    Thank you for your question.
    I am trying to involve someone familiar with this topic to further look at this issue.

    So in the last few days I’ve noticed that pressing my volume change keys actually isn’t changing the volume on my macbook pro at all. When I press the volume up or down keys, it makes the recognisable pop sound but stays at the same volume while the squares go up or down. I mute it but my computer still makes sound. It’s the same with the volume control up the top of the screen, too. I slide it up and down and it doesn’t change the volume at all. The only way I can change the volume is with my speakers or the program I’m in (iTunes, VLC etc). I restarted and it seems to be okay then I go to change it a couple minutes later and it’s back to not working again.
    I’ve checked my settings- the “use all F1, F2, etc. keys as standard fuction keys” is not switched on, and I have tried a suggestion of moving the com.apple.systempreferences.plist file out of the library and onto the desktop and restarting and neither of those seem to make any difference whatsoever. I’ve tried to find online forums but the only suggestions I found were those two and they didn’t work.
    I’m just annoyed because I usually have the worst luck with technology but my macbook had been going strong and I got it because of the apparent lack of things that could go wrong, but of course even if there is one thing that could go wrong it will happen to me.
    Please help!

  • My left shift key on Macbook Pro Retina (15") is behaving like the F11 key (show/hide open windows).  The key behaves the same for the laptop keyboard and for an external Apple keyboard?  This just started in last week after 6 months of use

    My left shift key on Macbook Pro Retina (15") is behaving like the F11 key (show/hide open windows).
    The left shift key behaves the same on the laptop keyboard and on an external Apple keyboard.
    This just started in last week after 6 months of use.  The right shift key and other keys on the keyboard all appear to work correctly.
    Suggestions greatly appreciated.

    I have a solution to this issue now after a discussion with Apple Support.  Some where in the last few weeks, there was a change in the key that would do a Show Desktop under the Mission Control settings in the System Preferences.  Even though the key sequence that was shown for the Show Desktop setting did not include the Left SHift key, by changing this first to having no key sequence and applying that and then changing it back to the F11 key, the Left SHift key issue that I was having has cleared up.
    A second issue that was uncovered was that the SSD had some issues (uncovered when I ran Disk Utility using the Repair Disk key).  I had to restart and use the Disk Utility through the Command R sequence to get to the stand alone Disk Utility.  The SSD appears to be running better as a result as well.
    Hope that this is of use to someone else in the future.
