Maps 3.01 crashes during navigation and postcode s...

I have a N96 which I upgraded to latest F/W and then tried to use Maps 3.01. I immediately started getting problems with maps crashing the phone when I was trying to use Navigation. I trawled the web looking for answers after getting very little help from Nokia support. So I resolved myself to solving it myself.
I tried the trick of uninstalling Maps 3.01, the licence manager etc, deleting the folders off the "Mass Memory". It was in doing this that I noticed a problem that I think is the cause of these navigation crashes. The CITIES folder contains the diskcache folder, which in turn contain various other folders, 0-9, a-f and others. When I tried to delete the CITIES folder, the diskcache\0\4 folder could not be deleted due to a file called "5[][][][][].[][][]". I tried various methods to delete this file and the folders at all levels that "owned" it, but none worked (e.g. phone's "file manager", Windows Explorer via PC Suite). I also tried the  Signed_MapsMainSettingsDefault.zip.txt  from ferrograph
After recently struggling with a trip where navigation crashed too many times to count, I tried one more time, but using a different tactic. I uninstalled Maps3.01, then deleted all I could from the CITIES folder (excluding CITIES\diskcache\0\4\5[][][][][].[][][], which still could not be deleted ), then I renamed CITIES to CITIESold and tried installing Maps 3.01 again. I checked the "mass memory" folder and CITIESold was still there, but a new folder "cities" in lowercase was also there. I checked cities\diskcache\0\4 and this contains a file named 5940.cdt.
I have tried using navigation 5 - 6 times since doing this, purposely changing routes from the recommended one, and no crashes have happened.
Another thing that has now started working is postcode searches offline. Prior to renaming the CITIES folder, the postcode search simply would not work... now it works every time.
Hope this helps.
If anyone from Nokia is reading this... perhaps you can give us some info on how to delete the CITIESold folder??? It's effectively empty, but doesn't belong there
PS I have posted the above as a reply to another thread, but thought that if this is the solution, more people would like to know about it.

No they dont read .
No need to delete Cities folder .
Here is what i would try
Remove maps software   and remove maps
Install the latest maps software   then use maps loader to download the latest required maps .

  • Help! Logic X 10.0.7 crashing during bounces and randomly!

I have just bought Logic X Pro (Version 10.0.7) with NI Komplete 9.
It worked fine for a day until it started to crash during bounces and occasionally when i'm working.
I have downloaded all the recent updates for Komplete but can't seem to find out why it's crashing!
It's a new Macbook Pro 13" so shouldn't be the computer!
Would appreciate any advice on this matter...

  • GPS looses fix during navigation and freezes

With Ovi Maps I have this problem that the GPS looses fix during navigation, I suspect that the signal is lost during driving.  But the phone does not find the GPS fix until I reboot the phone.
I got this error at the same time as the red gps signal indicator i Ovi Maps and now after the phone was upgraded at service station the error is shown even with green indicator.
If someone have experienced the same error is good to know.   I have not tried to turn off network location with A-GPS and expects this to be the error,  but why is the indicator red and not yellow for searching then.
When I use the phone only for logging as in Sports tracker there is no problem with the GPS.

    Hi kemishvalsimot
Firstly I would try disabling "WiFi/Network" in "Positioning methods" as this was only recently introduced in Maps update and caused issues with Joikuspot until this application was modified, so worth a try!
Are you using latest Sports Tracker from OVI or the old Nokia Beta Labs version?
Really surprised "Google Maps" issues as their algorithm for using "Network GPS" quickly produces results.
As regards using LD-4W reception will be a lot better and as Bluetooth is wireless transmission should be no issues with positioning of receiver. With E72 I can make two Bluetooth connections for "Handsfree" & "Music streaming" but can't give you a definitive answer as to issues when two applications used concurrently; as in my case one would interrupt the other when needed.
Happy to have helped forum in a small way with a Support Ratio = 37.0

  • My New Retina MacBook Pro crashes during installation and cannot turn back on?

My New Retina Display MacBook Pro suddenly just crash all of a sudden during installation, it happened when in a white background ther is a Lion image at the center and a progress bar at the bottom. The MacBook cannot be turned back on after this crash!!!! Does anyone has the same problem?
P.S. I had connected to a power cable during installation and didn't touch it at all during installation.

Similar problem here. Using the new Macbook Pro with Retina Display, happily for a week. Tonight it suddenly died, turned itself off, that is. I couldn't turn it back on now.... Very frustrating. Any solution except for bringing it back to the Apple store?

  • Itunes crashed during backup and I can't get help from apple support on the

    website.
Stupid Itunes crashed on disk 41 of 46 when backing up.
There is no help available on the apple website and no way to request help on the apple website for any issue with Itunes.
How do I fix this problem?
How do I tell Itunes which disks it backup up so it won't try backing them up all over again. Did it destroy a list of what was backed up? What's going on with itunes anyways? Does it always crash when it backs up this many cds? I don't want to start all over again and ruin another 41 CDR disks trying to back it up. How do I get it to continue from where it crashed or do whatever has to be done to get it to resume where it crashed during backup?
Stupid program wouldn't let me do anything after it crashed. said it will take a minute or two (more like forever) to cancel backup. Don't even know why it was trying to cancel the backup. I didn't tell it to.

Apparently there are some bugs in the latest itunes. DO NOT USE ITUNES TO BACKUP YOUR LIBRARY! UNLESS IT COMPLETES THE BACKUP, ITUNES IS NOT SMART ENOUGH TO FIGURE OUT WHICH FILES WERE BACKED UP. TECH SUPPORT DOES NOT KNOW HOW TO MAKE ITUNES KNOW WHAT FILES WERE BACKED UP SO IT CAN CONTINUE FROM WHERE IT LEFT OFF. AFTER 41 CDS WORTH OF BACKUPS, ITUNES CRASHED AND IT TRIED TO CANCEL THE BACKUP BUT NEVER FINISHED DOING THAT.
SO AFTER 60 CDS WORTH AND ABOUT 6 HOURS OF WASTED TIME, THE ONLY WAY IS TO BACKUP THE ENTIRE LIBRARY ALL OVER AGAIN WHICH IS A TOTAL WASTE OF MONEY, TIME, AND CDS WITH NO GUARANTEE THAT IT WILL WORK ANY BETTER THE SECOND TIME AROUND.
EVEN TRYING TO RESTORE FROM CDS DOESN'T TELL ITUNES TO UPDATE ITS LIST OF BACKED UP FILES. I'M SURPRISED THAT SUCH A BIG BLUNDER WITH ITUNES HAS GONE UNNOTICED.
ITS A SERIOUS ENOUGH ISSUE THAT SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE ABOUT IT. I BACKED UP MY ITUNES TO HD AND THERE WERE NO PROBLEMS SO OBVIOUSLY ITS AN ITUNES ISSUE.
NEEDLESS TO SAY, ITS A VERY ANNOYING PROBLEM TO PUT SO MUCH TIME AND EFFORT INTO GETTING NOWHERE.

  • Disk Utility crashed during partition and DOUBLED partition use - now it's full?

    This one has me stumped.
1TB Disk - NON-start-up - had about 450GB of data files on it.
Split it with disk partition so I could reclaim free space.
Disk Utility crashed during the partition.
    Relaunched Disk Utility.
Now shows 900GB of the disk are used.
Tried to repair disk with Disk Utility, "Can't Unmount Disk"
Have rebooted now and am trying to find out WHAT that other 450GB of space taken up actually is. (using WhatSize).
Anyone have any clues what the heck is going on? I now no longer have any space to duplicate the partiion files to (though on another drive completely). I can still access the files but not sure what that other space hog could be....?
    Thanks anyone.

Techtool Pro was able to determine the directory structure was fubarred - repairing it corrected the structure to report the size correctly.

  • Word 2007 crashes during autosave and when saving as .DOC

    Hi,
I have a problem with Microsoft Word 2007. It crashes every time during autosave. It also crashes when I try to save a file as .DOC (even an empty new file). When I save it as any other file type it's fine.
I have already tried repairing the office installation, reinstalling the whole suite (and then installing SP3 and all latest patches again), auto fix it from
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/822005/en-us and
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/921541/en-us, changing the autosave file location, using different windows account. None of these helped. I wouldn't like to work with autosave switched off.
I am using Windows 7 Professional SP1 and Office 2007 Professional 12.0.6683.5002 with SP3 on HP EliteBook 8470w.

    Kind regards,

  • IPhoto crashed during import and deleted photos from import

I tried to use iPhoto today to import 400+ photos from a recent holiday from my iPhone. When prompted I chose to delete the photos from my phone. When iPhoto was in the 'finishing import' stage it crashed and I was forced to force quit it. I assumed that because it said the import was complete and then asked if I wanted the photos deleted it had stopped working during the deleting and the photos would be safe in my iPhoto library. However, when I went into my library, none of the photos had been imported and all but 40 had been deleted from my phone. At the moment I stand to lose 400+ family photos.
Is there anyway to recover them?
My last backup of my iPhone included them on our family computer (I'm currently at university) - would this help? I wouldn't want to restore my phone from this backup becasue I've now got new information on the phone (incl. more photos) which I don't want to lose.
Also, I tried to import these photos in order to make sure I had them saved before upgrading to iOS6. Would doing this affect the temporary files which (I assume) the photos still are on my phone, albeit hidden? Would using my phone in other capacities (i.e. taking photos, texting, using internet, calls etc.) effect the data? Or am I wrong and the photos are in temporary files on my laptop?
    Thanks

First try the following to make sure they are not in the library but just not getting recognized by iPhoto:  make a temporary, backup copy (select the library and type Command+D) and  apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Since only one option can be run at a time start with Option #1, followed by #3 and then #4 as needed.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • Tried to install newest itunes, crashed during install, and now crashes my computer every time i try to uninstall.  Itunes doesn't show up in the Add/remove prog list at all.  tried to roll back over a month, still crashing.

So I tried to update to the newest Itunes.  It locked up my computer part way thru the install.  Black screen, computer turned itself off.  Now anytime i try to do anything with Itunes it shuts my computer down.  I can start up fine in safe mode but when i try to uninstall from there, Itunes doesn't exist.  the other apple programs do, but no itunes.  when i try to uninstall the other programs in safe mode it tells me it can't because the windows installer isn't loaded.  I have system restored to over a month ago and itunes still doesn't show up in add/remove programs.  however, i can open itunes.  it just tells me a file didn't get installed and to uninstall and reinstall.  So, how do i remove a progam that doesn't think it exists and crashes my computer when i try to do anything related to it???  I'm out of ideas.  running windows vista.

I think my problem is fixed now.
For the fun of it, I reinstalled iTunes 9.2.1 today (using the exact same installer as I did yesterday), but this time I didn't uninstall iTunes first. As expected, iTunes recognized my iPhone (as I expected it to, until my next reboot).
A few minutes later, Software Update showed up and among the updates is "iPhone SDK Compatibility Update". The description indicates that installing this should fix an issue where iPhones and iPod touches aren't recognized by iTunes. Isn't that interesting?
I installed that update and most of the others waiting for me (including Java, Safari 5.0.1, and a few others - not 10.6.4 though, due to the issues with nVidia graphics cards). After the reboot, I started iTunes, and it saw my iPhone!
So, if you're having this same problem, I'd recommend tracking down this update and see if that does the trick for you. Hopefully it will.

  • Final Cut Crashing during loading and within motion tab

    Hi All,
I'm working on an older Imac (black back) and some towers and I have FCP7, CS4, and Avid MC5 installed on them. FCP is starting to crash on me in a couple different situations and I was wondering if anyone had a fix.
Pre cursor: I've already reinstalled FCP, trashed preferences, upgraded from snow leopard 10.6 - 10.6.3
Whenever FCP quits on load up, it's while directional blur is loading up. It gives me a laundry list of code.
When I do get FCP open, whenever I try to apply a simple speed change or basic motion it crashes on me as well. On top of that I can't open the Motion application.
I have some newer imacs (silver back) that haven't had this problem and I was thinking maybe it's just a graphics card issue? I heard that it might be a conflict between the FCP Suite and AE or CS4 in general also.
    Any Ideas?

So back to the question if the OS was a clean install or an upgrade. For the pro apps it really should be done as a clean erase and install of the OS and a clean install from the discs. Pushing the software to multiple machines can cause problems. The only way this has worked for us in large training installations is to make a disk image for the whole system, including a clean erase and install of the OS, and then pushing the whole system and apps onto wiped drives.

  • My MacBook keeps freezing and crashing during startup and use, what's wrong?

My MacBook functioned perfectly for YEARS, and suddenly it started freezing during startup. One of four things happens: it starts up no problem, it freezes at the apple logo with the load wheel spinning, it freezes at a 'no' symbol (a circle with a line through it) with the load wheel spinning, or it freezes at a logo which is a folder with a question mark in it. It occasionally goes through and gets to the homepage, where I can use the computer for a certain amount of time before it freezes again. I never get to use it for more than 30 or 45 minutes at a time.
Yes, I have updated all my software, and I haven't dropped it or downloaded anything that could cause this issue. What could be going wrong? :(

There are corrupted system files involved, so my suggestion is to reinstall OS X.
If you are using Snow Leopard:
Reinstall OS X without erasing the drive
    Do the following:
    1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed with reinstalling OS X.  Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files.  After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.
Download and install the Combo Updater for the version you prefer from support.apple.com/downloads/.
If you are using Leopard or Tiger:
How to Perform an Archive and Install
An Archive and Install will NOT erase your hard drive, but you must have sufficient free space for a second OS X installation which could be from 3-9 GBs depending upon the version of OS X and selected installation options. The free space requirement is over and above normal free space requirements which should be at least 6-10 GBs. Read all the linked references carefully before proceeding.
    1. Be sure to use Disk Utility first to repair the disk before performing the Archive and Install.
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger, Leopard or Snow Leopard.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. Now restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. Do not proceed with an Archive and Install if DU reports errors it cannot fix. In that case use Disk Warrior and/or TechTool Pro to repair the hard drive. If neither can repair the drive, then you will have to erase the drive and reinstall from scratch.
    3. Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When you reach the screen to select a destination drive click once on the destination drive then click on the Option button. Select the Archive and Install option. You have an option to preserve users and network preferences. Only select this option if you are sure you have no corrupted files in your user accounts. Otherwise leave this option unchecked. Click on the OK button and continue with the OS X Installation.
    4. Upon completion of the Archive and Install you will have a Previous System Folder in the root directory. You should retain the PSF until you are sure you do not need to manually transfer any items from the PSF to your newly installed system.
    5. After moving any items you want to keep from the PSF you should delete it. You can back it up if you prefer, but you must delete it from the hard drive.
    6. You can now download a Combo Updater directly from Apple's download site to update your new system to the desired version as well as install any security or other updates. You can also do this using Software Update.

  • Itunes crashed during sync and now it wont sync my apps?????

i was syncing my itunes and was updating my itunes which i minimized away, and then suddenly itunes crashed and itunes kept updating i closed the update and went back on and finished the sync but some apps i purchased werent there. i have since updated itunes thinking that would help but no luck there. how can i fix this?

In iTunes, go to the App store and download the apps again.
If you log in with the same account that they were purchased with, you will not have to pay for them again.
Golden rule, do not try to update the itunes software at the same time syncing your phone.
I would expect iTunes to want to shut its self down while updating and if you are syncing at the same time, then its very possible to loose all your info. You were probably lucky only to loose some Apps

  • IPod Crashed During Sync And Now Its Dead...

    Hi guys,
While syncing my other ipod touch to my computer, i don't know how it happened, but the ipod crashed, and then froze. iTunes said the sync had completed, but the ipod still displayed a frozen 'sync in progress screen'. I hard reset it because it was the only thing that i could do. Now, all that is displayed is an apple logo, however, it does show up in itunes.
Is a restore required? Please advise...

I fixed it. Yay for me.

  • Computer crashed during update and now I can't access iTunes Store!

Hi! I was going to update my iTunes to the latest version, but my computer crashed halfway through. Ever since then, I can't access the iTunes store! I don't know whether trying to update it again would fix the issue?
Also, when choosing to update it brings me to the "download iTunes" page, it looks like the page you go to when you first download iTunes, and I don't want it to just download a new iTunes and not update my current one. I don't want it to affect my library.

  • CS5 Bridge repeatedly crashing during drag and drop

I've recently purchased Photoshop CS5 and I'm getting used to a new workflow using raw (DNG) images with my new camera. Since raw images pretty much must be browsed within Bridge (would be nice if Windows Explorer could recognize DNG files some day), I'm learning the ins and outs of working in Bridge.
My problem has been repeated crashing of Bridge while sorting and moving around a bunch of images. I find it easier to view thumbnails in Bridge on one screen and use Windows Explorer on a second screen to create subfolders and as a place to drag-and-drop selected photos. I can usually move several groups of images to Windows Explorer before Bridge crashes but I'd say Bridge never runs for more than a minute or two between crashes. I've read a few other messages on this forum which have suggested holding down <ctrl> while starting Bridge to reset the preferences. That seems (though possibly coincidentally) to have changed the place where Bridge crashes from the StackHash module to the ntdll.dll module. The following is an example of the problem signature of one of these crashes in case this looks familiar or provides any sort of clue:
    Problem signature:

Before anybody suggests I am running Windows7 Home Premium (x64) with an Intel i7 CPU, 8GB of RAM and a 1TB hard drive. I have all the available updates applied to the CS5 software, my video driver, and Windows itself. The problem is persistent and repeatable and rebooting and closing down all other applications have no effect.
Am I the only CS5 user in the known universe having such issues or are there known problems dragging and dropping with Bridge?

This may be causing the problem.  Drag and drop requires more resources of the OS and video card.  Can you use "move or copy to" instead and see it that works?
Also, I can see no reason to use Windows Explorer to create subfolders and your method to drag and drop may cause other problems.  If you move files with an XMP file attached make sure it moves with it.
I think you are making it more difficult that you need to.  Also, Win. Exp does not display thumbs of Raw images as you mentioned.
If you want 2 browsers open click File/new window and now you have 2 copies of Bridge open.  Put one on each monitor.
If you enter ntdll.dll in a web search you will see it is somewhat of a gereric hard drive error.
    Hope this helps.
