Maps in Lightroom 4

I am having a problem to get maps with my photos taken with GPS.
I am on the internet and can get google maps when I log into Google.
But when I am in Lightroom and try to look at photos with GPS taken, I will get only a black screen in maps and no maps.
Till about 3 weeks ago it worked fine - not anymore. Not sure if it has something to do with an update or a setting in lightroom.
Please help.

    Hello,
I have the problem that the display velocity of the maps in Lightroom is very slow. When i am downloading the same map with a browser it is fast, so it couldn't be a question of the dan width of my internet provider.
    Has anyone the same problems?
I am using Mac OS 10.9 and LR 5.7

Are you sure you have OS X 10.9 (Mavericks) and not 10.10 (Yosemite)?  There is a widespread problem with LR Maps on OS X 10.10 (Yosemite):

  • Can I make a map in Lightroom?

I have multiple aerial images of my farm.  I would like to splice these photographs together to make a map of trails for visiting friends and family.  Any clue as to how I would complete this task?
    Thanks for your insight friends!

You can't "Photomerge" multiple images into one with Lightroom. That is a task for Photoshop.

  • Lightroom 5.2:  Map is offline

    Hi,
I have been having trouble with the map module in Lightroom 5.2 64bit on a Windows 7 Professional 64 bit. It goes blank and after a while displays "Map is offline". Additionally the Adobe Air application "The Photographers Ephemeris" also cant display its map and Lightroom can't connect to Flickr. So my best guess is that somehow something is preventing my applications from accessing web services such as Google Maps and Flickr (Internet connection is fine, Lightroom and Maps work on my Laptop in the same network, and Google Maps works in different browsers). The Web module and Flash galleries in Lightroom work though. I think the cause for this is that a couple of days ago I used "Clear Browsing Data" in Chrome with all options (including "Clear data from hosted apps" and "Deauthorize content licenses"). I'm not entirely sure how Chrome could have an effect on these other apps but the timing of my problems really fits and before that everything worked fine.
I've googled the various problems which often tied the Maps problem to Adobe Air and Flash Player. I've already tried the following possible solutions without effect:
Removed the #Security folder in AppData\Roaming\Macromedia\Flash Player
Added, removed, modified "ape-host:" in the "air.1.0.trust.cfg" in AppData\Roaming\Macromedia\Flash Player\#Security\FlashPlayerTrust
Restored the entire AppData\Roaming\Macromedia\ folder to an older version
    Uninstalled and Reinstalled Flash Player
Run Lightroom without Flash Player or Adobe AIR installed
Run Lightroom and the other application as an Administrator
Reinstalled affected applications (tried it with "The Photographers Ephemeris")
    Windows Restore
None of these had any kind of effect. I also tried reinstalling Adobe AIR. That had the effect that the Maps Module worked for a short time before going blank again and showing "Map is offline". That was last night after which I put the PC in Sleep mode. This morning I wanted to try it further and Maps again didn't work at all. (Except for entering and exiting Sleep mode nothing was done with the PC).
The only thing left I can think of is to completely reinstall the OS, which I would really prefer not doing
I'm really hoping someone else here has some experience with this sort of problem
Thanks in advance for any ideas and tips you might have

  • Lightroom doesn't export a raw file in Photoshop CS6

I have both PhShP elements and CS6. I recently started working on an IMac. On my windows computer I always exported my files with Lightroom adjustments to CS6 and back. When I ask to export a file in CS6 with Lighroom ajustments it opens PhShP Elements what I don't want without the file.. Who can help me out here?   Ariane James

I agree with this feature request.
I have lightroom and PS Extended. Lightroom is perfect for browsing and searching through my RAW images (much better than Bridge I find), and many times I will process the RAW in lightroom and then send the TIFF to Photoshop for further editing.
HOWEVER, ;O) Photoshop extended has far more RAW capability. Sometimes I look at a RAW in lightroom and would like to send that straight to PS Extended to process the RAW with the extra features. At the moment, I have to manually open photoshop, search for the photo (which is a long time consumer when I already found it in Lightroom) and then process.
This would be a very handy feature.
It would also work perfectly with a similar extra feature to export RAW to a 3rd party program. Sometimes, after browsing photos in lightroom, I would like to send the RAW straight to Photomatix, an HDR software for tone mapping. It only works with RAW for tone mapping, but Lightroom only allows you to send a TIFF/JPG to an external program.
These simple features would really really speed up my work flow.

  • Add ability for Lightroom to open a RAW file in Photoshop

Currently, one cannot open RAW files in Photoshop from Lightroom. I realize that there are many of the same ACR 4.1 features in LR, but sometimes I just want to the open the RAW file directly in Photoshop.

I agree with this feature request.

  • Workflow and Adobe Products. Is Lightroom the best way to go?

I am somewhere between a serious hobbyist and pro just based on shear number of photos I take and because in shoot in RAW. I've been using Elements for years. I'm dedicating my year to upping my game process wise at least.
I added Bridge but it doesn't play well with Elements 11. I tried Lightroom 4 in the past and hated it. And now Adobe has both Photoshop and Lightroom available for $10/month. What to do what to do? I could stick with Elements. I could add Lightroom 5 and tweak it for Elements. I could abandon Elements and switch to Lightroom 5 plus Photoshop CC. What kind of workflow do you use?
Last night  I started trialing Lightroom 5 and it does not have face recognition like Elements 11 does. I'm not sure I can live without face recognition.
Today I tried adding 275 photos to the map in Lightroom. I couldn't figure it out. After 20 minutes I gave up. This is another feature that I use heavily in Elements 11.
I thought Bridge or Lightroom would be the way to go but both seem to be coming up short. I go through about 500 pics a week so I need something to improve my workflow.
    Thanks,
    -AJ

You might try posting your PSE questions here:
    Photoshop Elements
There are also PS and Adobe Bridge forums:
    Photoshop General Discussion
    Bridge General Discussion
I've been using PS since 1994 (v3.0)  and Lightroom since 2007 (v1.0). In my opinion, for digital photography work LR is the best tool for organizing, editing, and creating output of your camera image files. For more complex edits LR's 'Edit In Photoshop' feature quickly gets your image  inside PS (or PSE) with your LR edits for further processing. If you talk to some of the other PS "old-timers" in the PS forum many will tell you LR is for amateurs and PS with Bridge is for "serious" work. I guess it depends on your preference and how experienced you are with PS and Bridge. I use all three (PS, Bridge, LR), but 95% of my work is done using only LR.
As dj_paige has already mentioned, you'll be disappointed if you jump in and use LR without watching and reading the many LR tutorials available. The LR Forum is full of posts from LR beginners who simply haven't gotten a clue on how to use the program's tools. As you said, "I've been using Elements for years. I'm dedicating my year to upping my game process wise at least." If you're willing to put in some time to learn how to use LR you won't be disappointed.

  • Importing XP Comments Field into Lightroom 3.3

I have a large number of jpg's I have tagged, commented, and added subject and title too.  All tagging has been done in windows with most done in vista and windows 7.  I recently got Lightroom and am importing the existing files.  The tags come through as keywords fine, but the other data does not appear to import.  I checked and see the comments are stored in the XP Comments field in the exif structure.  I saw some old posts about problems importing certain data and where it is mapped within Lightroom.  Is there any easy way to bring this data across? Am I missing something?  this seems like a pretty basic function.
    Thanks

The problem is twofold: where in the metadata these "comments" are stored, and how Lightroom might display this information.
There are no really good defined places for general comments in the current metadata definitions used by image vendors.  The ones that do exist are abused in a great number of ways.  However, you could see which of these is displayed in Lr (I think one of the IPTC fields might be) and process the image files to copy the comments to this field. I'd use a tool like EXIFTool to do this, make sure you save metadata to the file (or sidecar) and then read it back in again once you have finished tweaking it outside of Lightroom.

  • 32 bit HDR Images (Edit in) problems

    I'm using Lightroom 4.3 and Photoshop CS5 12.0.4 64x on a 27" iMac with 16GB RAM.
I have used the 'FILE - PLUG IN EXTRAS - MERGE TO 32BIT HDR' (Photomatix plug in)  command to create a series of HDR images, which I have subsequently tone mapped in Lightroom.
Now I want to merge the resulting .tif files in to a panorama, I have tried 'PHOTO - EDIT IN - MERGE TO PANORAMA IN PHOTOSHOP' and 'PHOTO-EDIT IN- OPEN AS LAYERS IN PHOTOSHOP' but neither work.
Lightroom appears to start the process as I get the RAW 7.3 Warning box, I click 'OK' and then the Photomerge dialogue box opens in Photoshop with my .tif files selected. I again click OK but nothing happens.
I have tried closing down and restarting both Lightroom and Photoshop, I have rebooted my iMac but still nothing.
Can anyone offer me any advice or assistance please?

...well I suppose Adobe have to try and keep the money rolling in somehow
That is correct, and I like your attitude .
People who pay thousands of dollars on hardware should not complain too much about hundreds of dollars in software. Complex software takes a huge amount of time to develop and maintain - companies that produce it must get paid for it... - it ain't charity work... profit margin is very thin, not fat (has to be that way to remain competitive). Adobe makes good money by selling a lot of copies, but rest assured: they could not price things much less or accept less income in one place without getting more in another - otherwise they'd go out of business.
Movie and sports stars have fat profit margins - not software companies...
    Cheers,
    Rob

  • Sharpening presets

How do unsharp mask settings map to Lightroom sharpening? Amount and radius of course map, but how about clipping and its relationship to either detail or masking? I wish that Gaussian blur were an option in Lightroom, by the way. Thanks!

Actually I'm not sure that amount and radius map against USM either
The easiest way I guess is to compare with the same image.

  • Lightroom CC: In the Map module, why is the Map Tracklog"Auto-Tag Photos" choice inactive?

In the Lightroom CC Map module, the "Auto-Tag Photos" choice in the Main Menu > Map > Tracklog submenu is inactive (grayed out) when I try to tag GPS metadata from a tracklog to a selected photo. However, for the same tracklog and selected photo, the Auto-Tag 1 Selected Photo choice in the tracklog menu in the Toolbar is active and I can successfully tag the photo with GPS metadata from the tracklog using it. (Lightroom CC (2015) running on Mac OS X, Ver. 10.10.3). Can someone tell me why this might be?

    Auto-tag greyed out - solution
    1. Click on Start(Windows)+R in your Windows 8computer to open the Run Dialog box.
    2. Type %appdata% in the Run Dialog box and hit enter.
    3. Open the Adobe folder.
    4. Open the Lightroom folder.
    5. Open the Preferences folder.
    6. And rename the file Lightroom 5 preferences.agprefs to Lightroom 5 preferences.agprefs.old
    7. reopen the Lightroom and check if your  issue has resolved.

  • Lightroom 5.2 map module not displaying maps

I am having all sorts of problems with Lightroom 5.2 and wish I'd just stayed with Lightroom 4. I've already posted about not being able to import directly from an SD card in my laptops reader, and have at least found a work around to that (copy files to hard drive them import - I see others have found the same thing and it works just fine).
Now I have realised that the map screen in the map module is blank. I had this problem initially with Lightroom 5, and then it seemed to resolve itself. It is refusing to resolve itself in Lightroom 5.2 however. I've searched on the web for similar problems, and have found some responses to blank map screens in Lightroom 4, but they are so technical I haven't got a clue where to start trying to follow them.
So, I am a simple soul who needs a simple answer. I am using LR 5.2 on an HP laptop running Windows 7. In the map module, where I already have GPS data (from a Canon EOS 6D) it is displayed in the metadata, and the little pop up box shows the number of photos at selected locations etc. But the central map screen is black. If I search, the screen stays black although it appears as though it has gone to the location. The Navigator screen is blank too.  And yes, I am connected to the internet and LR5.2 seems to be able to find the internet (I checked by going into the web module).
Can anyone help me please. I like to put GPS locations on my photos prior to upload to Flickr, and whereas they are there from photos from my 6D, they don't exist for photos taken on my Canon Powershot.

A work-around that I am using is to run Lightroom as an administrator on my Windows 7 system (right-click on the icon and choose run as administrator).  Everything then works ok.  I also needed to run as an administrator to be able to update some plug-ins I was using.  I fixed the plug-in update issues by changing the permissions on plug-ins folder.  I suspect that it is a similar issue with the maps.
I have not figured out what folder or files need to have the permissions altered to stop Lightroom from working in the unelevated state but if someone reading this knows please share.  I saw some posts related to the same issue but on Macs but the Windows configuration is different.

  • Lightroom 4.2: Wrong time in map module

In Lightroom 4.2 I use the map module in the following way:
    1. Load a gpx-Track
    2. Select one or all tracks
    3. Select the photos to be tagged
    4. Select the correct time zone shift (normally the time interval of the track contains the time interval of the photos)
    5. Tag the selected photos
Now all photos are tagged correctly. But there is one small bug:
moving the mouse along the track displayed in the map does not show the local time including the time zone shift but the UTC without time shift. This is somewhat confusing. I think this bug should be removable easyly.

  • Want to remove pics from iBook and move to external HD, and have Lightroom 1.2 map to the external h

In an effort to keep my hard drive on my iBook G4 from filling up I plan to use the external hard dive for my pictures, and store them all on the external hard drive right from step 1 (upload from camera) to final version. The issue right now is that i have about 9k pics on my hard drive that I need to move over and have Light room map to the new location. I am also contemplating changing them all to DNG.
    regards
    AN

Just a word of caution when moving your image files from your iBook to your external drive. I have experienced database corruption when doing this at the folder level. I have a bug filed with Adobe regarding the problem. When it occurs it is pretty dire if you don't have a current backup of your database (i.e. Catalog) file. In my experience, the corruption can not be fixed by any method other than moving the image files back to their original location and replacing the database file from a backup.
The work around that I found worked fine was to manually create the folders on the new drive (from within Lightroom) to match the hierarchy (or a new hierarchy if you so desire) on the internal drive. Then for each folder on the internal drive select all the images and drag them to the new location. This is more time consuming but better than recovering from a backup.
Regardless of how you do it I would strongly recommend making a backup of your database file before you move the image files. Once you are done (if you do the move at the folder level) go into one of the folders at the new location and let the images render (either thumbnails or using loop mode). The corruption does not show up until the previews re-render. If there is a problem you'll see garish colors that you can't fix in the Develop Module. Note this bug only shows up when you are move images between volumes (different disks). If you move within the same volume it seems to work fine.
Hope that saves you some grief.

  • Is there a Maps or GeoTagging module in CS6 like that of Lightroom 4

Is there a Maps or GeoTagging module in CS6 like that of Lightroom 4

No, sorry, there isn't a feature like that in Photoshop or Bridge CS6, you can manually add location data to the image metadata using File > File Info however.
That will at least give an image metadata others could see.
You might also have a look at this blog entry giving some ideas to allow this sort of feature:
