Maps no longer are found by Nokia Ovi Suite or on ...

Recently I unplugged my memory card and then reinserted it into my nokia E71 phone. After reinserting it all my apps continued working however inside Ovi GPS maps doesnt work anymore. I am able to open up the app and it finds my location and relative to my saved favorites it seems to be in the right place, but the streets and terrain did come back!
I hooked it up to nokia ovi suite and got "Can't find maps on your device" when trying to install them back onto my phone.
I have also tried to install the http://maps.nokia.com/ app back onto the phone and seems to install however the full maps never come back.
Any suggestions?

@AliveGuy
I am assuming that this version of Ovi Maps is installed upon your E71:http://europe.nokia.com/support/product-support/maps-support/compatibility-and-download#/nokia-e71/
Maps needs to be stored upon memory card as really not enough phone memory except for the smallest region; the actual map data is in E:\Cities\diskcache in (16) folders 0 - 9 and a - f, so is unrecognisable as such!

As given in the Help section..
Before connecting your device via Bluetooth, note the following:
You need to have Bluetooth hardware and software installed on your computer. For a list of the Bluetooth software versions that are supported by Nokia Ovi Suite, see System requirements. To check which Bluetooth stack versions are installed on your computer, click Help > About Nokia Ovi Suite > System information.
Enable Bluetooth wireless technology on your computer.
Edit the Bluetooth settings of your mobile device. To do this, go to Settings > Connectivity or Connection depending on the term used on your device. Turn Bluetooth on and make your device visible to other Bluetooth devices. Then other Bluetooth devices, such as your computer, are allowed to find your mobile device, and can start connecting to it. Refer to the user guide of your device for more detailed instructions.

  • Fine tunning the new Nokia Ovi suite 2.0.2.42

    Hi,
I just installed Nokia Ovi suite and have configured some settings but the followings are either not available or can't be configured:
SMS , call and battery notifications are missing as compared to Nokia PC Suite
Calendar cannot be viewed , I can only see (contacts , photos , messaging and Music) on the home screen
Device backup time cannot be set
Sync period with MS Outlook cannot be set
Calendar items that are older than 4 weeks cannot be synced
Under tools - options - device sync , I didn't select the message folder to be synced but the software has already synced SMS messages between the phone and computer! I didn't want to do that
Cannot create MMS message as opposed to Nokia PC Suite
In short the interface is cool but there are many features that are available in Nokia PC suite that are missing from Nokia Ovi suite
Any fix to any of the above issues would be appreciated

It didn't show map on phone, just plain color like no map installed. The file I used was named  17221.zip and got it from this site. Will try the whole Europe if it helps.
I have Nokia Ovi suite and Nokia maps updater (which dont work) at the moment at my pc. Where I can get "MapLoader" or is it just another name for Maps updater?
Hullukala, please check your file paths. It should work.
For example, if i were to open the 17221.zip (Finland map) and extract it on my PC first (in a folder named 17221 for example), I would go inside that folder and grab all the files and folders in that folder and put them right inside cities\diskcache on your memory card.
It will tell you that certain folders (the folder structure) exist, and you should overwrite / replace. The only reason I see for the maps not working is file paths being wrong. You don't need to download the whole EU file.
Nokia Map Loader is actually a different application to Maps Updater.
Try here for it if you want to try it, but you really don't have to use it if you do things manually.

  • Maps 3.08 won't work in Nokia Ovi Suite 3.1.1.85

I am having problems trying to get the Maps to work in Nokia Ovi Suite.  When I click on the maps I get a mesage that tells you that the map application is still open in your phone and asks you to close it but, in fact, Ovi Maps is definitely NOT running; then there is a key on the screen asking to retry and when you do that the following message appears:
"Something's gone wrong. There's a problem with Nokia Ovi Suite. Restart your computer. If the problem won't go away, uninstall Nokia Ovi Suite and download the latest version of the application from www.nokia.com/ovisuite." Been there, done that, I have the latest Ovi Suite software (3.1.1.85) and the latest phone's firmware and the map application is definitely closed but still I'm unable to connect to the map's server when my phone is connected.
    I also want Symbian Anna!!!!!

    Moderator, please take notice!
They lack of functionality between Thunderbird contacts and calendar and Ovi Suite is a problem many of us have been monitoring for over 2 years. It looks like still nothing has been done about it. I, for one, cannot believe that so many users have been ignored for so long. To date I still refuse to use Ovi Suite until such time as I can see evidence that will sync contacts and calendar to and from Thunderbird. In addition I see no logical reason why the Ovi Suite developers took a huge step backwards and removed another piece of PC Suite that was already working well, for several years. I am speaking of file sync. Not media files, but others, such as Office type files. The phone can open and read documents, spreadsheets, PDF's and the like. So why can we no longer sync those files? I have been doing this for 6 years, but there are others who have used it for longer than myself. It is a crucially important feature for those of us who need to carry info with us. Since PC Suite can still do the sync, I cannot, in good conscience install Ovi SUite, which I still feel is not yet ready for primetime.
Nokia developers, stop playing games. Some of us have work to do.

  • Nokia Ovi Suite Is RUBBISH!

I've used Nokia PC Suite for years and, recently updated to Ovi Suite.
I've found PC Suite to be a superior product for the following reasons:
1/ Ability to initiate and answer calls from within the software,
2/ The software is fully self contained; including calendar and,
3/ No need to install Microsoft products in order to acheive full functionality.
I can't understand why Nokia have updated PC Suite in this way.  I am left wishing I'd never changd my 'phone.
More recently, the Ovi Suite update has caused the following further problems:
1/ Ovi Suite does not stay signed into Ovi Online: every time I start my Ovi Suite, I have to re-sign-in to Ovi Online; despite having the 'keep me signed in' box checked.
This is a badly designed and very poor piece of software.

    @hornyHaggis
No, it's actually not really a problem with my PCs, if it were we'd have only problem PCs. I myself have used Ovi-suite on at least 5 different machines and currently use it on two, at work and at home.
In the data centre where I work our Nokia smartphone users generate TWICE as many support tickets as the users of all other smartphones combined, yet Nokias account for only about 20% of our installed smartphone base. Most of the tickets pertain to Ovi-Suite.
As for the OVI user interface, it took Nokia forever to quit broadcasting private information to the world via the Ovi-suite home screen which it did until version 2.x. but instead we are now treated to shameless plugs of software that takes the majority of the window real estate of Ovi-Suite 3.x
Syncs to Outlook are notoriously unreliable, the Ovi.Suite "eats" tasks and appointments, had issues syncing notes and so on. There's rarely a week where i don't have to restore my Outlook calendar from the exchange server backup.
The list of issues I have with Ovi could be at least twice as long as it is and while I agree that the N97 is a piece of garbage, all of the Ovi-related issues can be reproduced with a 5800xm.
What's more, you can install Ovi-Suite five times on the exact same PC which was prepped with the exact same CLEAN disk image and you WILL get five different results. I know because it took me five tries to get Ovi suite to work correctly on my machine at work.
The N97 brick is actually only the second worst handset that I have from Nokia. The worst was the 6280 of which I had six within a year, all warranty exchanges.
The N8s that we have here at work are only slightly less troublesome than the N97 and since Symbian is being ditched in favor of WP7 and application support is dwindling fast (most of the really cool apps are only available for the fruit phone and android, plus announced for WP7) my Noka days are definitely coming to an end.
If I ever get a WP7 devices there are other brands that come to mind long before Nokia, sorry. The sales numbers show that I am not the only one thinking like that, because they are going down. Fast. Very Fast.
Ever seen a black lemon? They turn black when they rot. My N97 is black. 'nuff said

  • Transfer Nokia Ovi Suite 2 Data to Another Compute...

    Hi Everyone,
I've been using the Ovi Suite for a while now specifically for synching all my text messages. I have a new laptop and I would like to transfer the SMS data synched in my old pc right now through the Ovi Suite. How do I go about this? Most of them are already deleted in my phone so I think I need to extract or migrate the database files from my old pc to the new one.
I'm using an N79. Here's the other details:
    Nokia Ovi Suite 2.0.0.10
    Nokia Photos 1.3.15.0
    PC Connectivity Solution 9.38.0.0
    Connectivity Cable Driver 7.1.20.0
Nokia Ovi Suite Software Updater 2009.40.0.60128
    Maps Service API 3.0.35.0
    Nokia mPlatform 2.5.168
    Ovi Desktop Sync Engine 1.0.0.684
    Operating system:
Microsoft Windows Vista 32-bit Edition, Service Pack 2
    Language: English
    Many thanks.

    Hi,
You currently have very old Ovi Suite version. My recommendation is that you update the version to the most recent one (www.ovi.com) which is Nokia Ovi Suite 3.0.0.290.
I don't recommend you transfer these old components to new PC and then use them with new Ovi Suite version. They may even end up not working at all...
You have two quick solutions to use (with new version):
    1) You can just drag and drop all the messages to your device and then when connecting with the new PC drag and drop them back (if it is a clean PC then you can use also message sync functionality for transfering)
    2) In the new version of the Ovi Suite you have export/import messages functionality available which you can use to export the messages to e.g. .csv file. You can then transfer that to new PC and import the messages from there.

  • Nokia OVI Suite 2 compatible with N900?

    Hello,
PC Suite (for win XP) prompts me to "upgrade" it to Nokia Ovi Suite 2.
PC Suite at the moment allows me to do some things with the N900, like automatically transferring pics and other files to my PC, while the current version of OVI suite isn't doing anything useful for me, it just slows down the whole System.
    My questions:
    1. If I install Ovi Suite 2, will it replace PC Suite, so that PC Suite-functionality will no longer be available?
    2. If PC Suite is replaced by Ovi Suite 2, is the new version less resource-hungry and, most importantly, does it work with my N900?
    thanks Ben

    Hi Ben,
Ovi Suite 2.2.241 does work with the N900, HOWEVER, it is still not a complete solution. It will synch contacts, calendar entries and tasks (if your client, e.g. Outlook, is supported). Features such as sending/synchronising messages is not supported, amongst other things.
    1. It can co-exist with PC Suite (I have it running alongside PC Suite 7.1) and no functionality has been lost with PC Suite. It will not prompt you to uninstall or replace any of the PC Suite components.
    2. Ovi Suite 2 is more resource hungry, probably in part due to the amount of eye candy in the new program (nice graphics, smooth transitiions....you get the drift).

  • Comments for Nokia Ovi Suite

I just got my new C7 several days ago and started to experience this nice smartphone. I am using the software Nokia Ovi Suite to download maps for C7 which is helpful.
In geernal, this software feels like iTure for Mac products. I have some suggestions to improve it as following:
    1) I hope to download maps on the computer by Ovi Suite, and then transfer them to the cell phone.  If I can do so, I do not need to connect cell phone with the computer for a long time and I can quickly update and delete the maps in the cell phone by local map files on the computer.
    2) I hope to use Ovi Suite to mange pictures, videos and others. Not only copy files from the cell phone but also append the files into the phone. The best way would be use the Ovi Suite as a library and synchronize it with the cell phone.

  • PC Suite & Nokia Ovi Suite via Bluetooth on Nokia ...

I had a tough time in getting the Nokia N8 in sync with the latest Nokia PC Suite which will recognise the N8 (version 7.1.40.9) together with the Nokia Ovi Suite through bluetooth. It was a nightmare! I don't use to have any troubles in connecting any Nokia phones via bluetooth but I do have a problem with the N8.
After searching through various forums and blogs, I have come to a conclusion. There is a workaround the problem when it pertains to the Nokia PC Suite. I rarely use the Nokia Ovi Suite because the Ovi Suite would not allow me to sync calender items for more than 6 weeks. With the Nokia PC Suite, it will allow a user to sync any items for 99 years! Can you believe it? However, not all are lost. The Ovi Suite is better in terms of installing updated maps on the N8 though. You would not be able to do so on the Nokia PC Suite.
When it comes to synchronising your N8 with your PC Suite/ Ovi Suite via bluetooth, you need to take care. The steps will be as follows:
    (1) Install the latest Nokia Ovi Suite and or PC Suite Suite version 7.1.40.9.
    (2) Don't run Ovi/Nokia PC Suite. If they are running on the taskbar, right click to exit all of them.
    (3) Enable bluetooth on your N8 and then right click on the bluetooth devices icon at the bottom right of your laptop.
    (4) Once you have right clicked on the bluetooth devices icon, select 'add devices'.
    (5) Follow the prompts on your N8 and also on your laptop/pc.
    (6) Please make sure that your N8's bluetooth is on 'discoverable'. Otherwise your laptop/pc will not be able to pick up the signal.
    (7) Follow the instructions given and then reboot your laptop/pc.
After that, you would need to fire up your PC Suite or Ovi Suite but not both at the same time. Use PC Suite to sync your contacts/messages/calenders while use the Ovi Suite to install and update your map on your Nokia devices.
    Good luck!

Pls help. I'm able to connect my N8 to my laptop's win7 home premium but not to OVI suite or PC Suite.
They get connected with N8 over cable but not over bluetooth. PC Suite says "Can not authenticate the phone" and ovi suite keeps checking the "Phone's bluetooth capabilities".

For last 3 years I was using Nokia 6233 – Nokia PC Suite – Microsoft Outlook combination. Recant I transfer to Nokia 2700 classic – Nokia Ovi Suite – Mozilla Thunderbird combination and I am real unsatisfied.
Nokia 2700 is just a shadow of 6233 model. Catastrophically weak camera and lack of calendar on the main screen are my biggest complain.
Nokia Ovi Suite is bloatware. Sync with Thunderbird (Lightning) or Ovi page is problematic or unexisting. Even the some simple function hasn't work, like grouping messages by the sender (John Doe and John Abc can't be the same person).
I don't think that I have actual problem, this is just a case of a poor programing and optimization of the program.
