Maps not launching (Nokia 5800)

I have recently purchased a Nokia 5800, downloaded Ovi maps, checked for current upgrades(my software is 50.xxx.xx.x) etc but when I attempt to launch maps nothing happens and I am returned to the menu page. Can anybody help..?

Just to elaborate on post by farby when you say "downloaded OVI Maps" do you mean that either you downloaded regional mapping 5800XM with microSD inserted or that you updated particular version of OVI Maps application installed on device?
When you say that "nothing happens on attempting to launch OVI Maps" do you mean application opens then crashes or doesn't open at all?
If it opens then crashes it usually means that you should delete E:\CITIES + .qf file from memory card, re-start OVI Maps when you get a setting up progress bar which re-defines folder structure on microSD required by Maps facility within OVI Suite on your PC.

Ovi maps problems with Nokia 5800 xpress music

Since Ovi updated the maps I've had trouble using it. I have version 40 firmware which was installed by Vodafone when my device expired. Despite the update, Ovi maps just crashes the phone when I try to use it. The screen goes blank and I get all coloured lines flashing down one side and the phone reluctantly restarts. Any advice please?

I am having exactly the same problem with my 5800 xpress music having updated to version 40.0.005.235.10 and installed the new version of OVI maps and the software Own Voice.
I have also tried reinstalling the sotware, restoring my phone to factory settings and resetting my phone by pressing the green, red and camera button whilst powering up. The problem persists. I will be making a call and within a few seconds of the call being connected the phone switches off and back on again. I also get the the coloured lines flasing on the screen.
Please Nokia Support, help us out.

Installation failing ovi maps 3.4 (nokia 5800 navi...

Trying to install ovi maps 3.4 (278) (with free navigation) but its failing. i have tried to download it from software update (mobile itself) and even from pc suite .. however, both updates failed. do you know what could be wrong pls ? Thanks

Ovi Maps does not launch anymore on my 5800 Xpress...

I have the latest ovi maps for my nokia 5800 (3.06, and also the latest firmware of the 5800), and everything was working fine until yesterday when I click the Map icon, the application is not launching... I did not install anything new, it just does not want to launch the application (no error message, just like i did not press the icon). I had the same issue couple of weeks ago when suddenly the ovi maps stopped working (i had to reset my phone and reinstall everything), and today it's the same all over again...
Do you have any idea how to fix this? (i have around 40Mo left in my phone memory, so there should not be any memory problem i guess....)

Presumably you have Ovi Maps v3.06 (688) installed http://nds1.nokia.com/files/support/global/phones/software/ ovi_maps_installer_3.06_11wk23_b05_s60_5...
Don't know whether you restored from a backup after resetting device and have re-introduced a problem.
Perhaps try removing E:\Cities + .qf fle from 5800 and store safely on PC desktop, as empty folder structure re-created when you next open Ovi Maps application.

I recently downloaded Google Maps on my Nokia 5800 XpressMusic. However, when I start the application on my phone, the connections fails to connect to the server. Has anyone faced this problem, or does anyone of you have any solution to this?

Hi, try Options -> Tools -> Connections and select a working connection. It needs at least a data connection to download maps from Google unlike Nokia maps where the maps can be downloaded in advance.
I find that the maps are more detailed in Google compared to Nokia maps though and is more 'eye friendly'.

Just posted a thread on City lens not working properly with Maps, but now I notice that Maps seems to have problems of its own: without Wifi, I can't use satellite maps or indoors maps. As a matter of fact, even the plain vanilla street maps mode seems to work only because I've downloaded offline maps for my country. If try to zoom in on a neighbouring country without wifi, no detailed maps load.
Nokia Drive doesn't seem to have this limitation, it will happily load detailed maps data over the air too. Using Lumia 920, original firmware, and Maps version 3.1.177.8.
This can't be by design, or can it?

Some more interesting symptoms from this issue:
After restarting the phone, if I immediately launch Maps or City Lens, I can enjoy a short moment (maybe a minute or two) of having the features work over cellular data connection.
The non-functionality of these features seems to correlate with how the Dialer tile on the start screen identifies my network (only medium-size or large tile will show the name). If the tile reads "Saunalahti" (the name of my operator), everything will work as it should. Some minutes after booting the id changes to "Oma verkko" (="Own network"), at which point cellular connection seems to stop working, but only for these very specific use cases. I can happily use IE10 or other apps which require data connection even with WiFi off.
If I go to Settings / Network and choose my network manually from the list (i.e. I choose "Saunalahti"), the Dialer tile will for a short while again revert to showing "Saunalahti", and I get another 2 minutes of functionality.
So yes, I guess it does look like a network issue, or perhaps an issue with how the device deals with roaming networks. My network provider told me it's probably something with the phone or its settings and suggested I contact Nokia. Nokia will probably tell me it's obviously something with the operator and direct me to them .

Reinstallation of Nokia Maps for Nokia 5800

I have installed a wrong version of Nokia Maps (it is not for touch screen phone), so it doesn't work corectly.
Can anyone tell me how can I reinstall the application with the correct version, so I can use the application.
On the Nokia Maps website I cannot select the Nokia 5800 to download it.

BSNL 3G not working in nokia 5800 US version

hi,
i bought a nokia 5800 US version unlocked mobile handset 10 months back. now i am using indian BSNL 3G SIM in india. my mobile handset is not detecting the bsnl 3G signal. from bsnl people i understood that their technology is 3.5G HSDPA 2100. according to gsmarena the US version supports "HSDPA 850 / 1900". is there a way to make it work with the bsnl 3G network?
voice calls, SMS and web browsing working.
Video calls, MMS, TV, etc... not working.
my mobile set has firmware version 21.2.025 date: 18-04-2009

updating the firmware with indian version firmware, will it help in solving the problem?

Out of my interest in which part of the world are you living? do you have any idea about the ongoing talks about the launch of 3G services by private players and one more thing spend some time in to whatever thing you are reading and atleast try to comprehend whats been conveyed there. There was no explicit statement by DoT to hold the services given by the existing players, currently only BSNL and MTNL(Mumbai). Of course I read paper daily.

Install Maps 3.06 on a brand new Nokia 5800

I currently have a 5530, which is a little damaged: the call speaker is not working, the touch screen is quite scratched. Next month I'll be travelling to Europe (Portugal) and maybe I'll buy a brand new Nokia 5800. It's a very good phone and it's price has dropped a lot, but it's still expensive in Brasil, where I live.
Since I'll be on a vacation, I'm not sure whether I'll have free wi-fi available. It would be nice if I could download Ovi Maps 3.06 and the latest Portugal map on my home PC, in order to later install on the new 5800. I have on my current phone, a 5530, many Ovi Maps 3.04 favourites and routes. Those I can easily synchronize on the new 5800 with my Ovi account, that's easy. The problem is how to upgrade a brand new 5800 without having wi-fi (although data plan will not be a problem).
Is that possible? How do I proceed to get the necessary files? How do I install them on a brand new 5800?

I finally managed to download the installation file from Ovi Maps support site. But I'm a little confused here...

That last link (5800XM v3.06) points to a file named: "ovi_maps_installer_3.06_11wk7_b11_s60_5.0_nocs_beta.sis"
But through Ovi Maps support page I download the file:
"ovi_maps_installer_3.06_11wk10_b01_s60_5.0_com.sis"
Which one is the final release and which one should I install on a factory new 5800XM?

Unable to uninstall MAPS on Nokia 5800

I need help in uninstalling the old Maps version on my Nokia 5800 phone. I actually had the latest version on my phone but I installed a different version from GetJar.com, which I thought was the latest version. When I opened the newly installed Maps, it was an old version and I'm not able to use it. I tried removing it but it always gives me an error message "Removing Failed". It's not listed in the Application Manager Installed Apps. I tried installing the new version from the Software Updates app but it always fails. Please help me guys. Thanks.

Suggest perhaps that you backup essential data first, then reset device to "Out of box" state by keying in *#7370# followed by 12345 (default Nokia lock code unless altered by yourself).
Your 5800XM will then revert to OVI Maps version pre-installed in device firmware.

Nokia 5800 MusicXpress GPS not working!

I'm from New Zealand, i bought nokia 5800 XpressMusic few months ago.
I don't seem to be able to get the GPS running.
Can someone please help me to get the GPS running.
I'm using Ovi Maps and if i try and search for my position it keeps waiting and never does anything (the red dot keeps flashing). I tried this outside in a clear day with my friend next to me trying on thier iPhone and getting a good sginal
Ovi Maps version on my phone is v3.04
My Phone's Softare version is V 51.0.006
Maps were downloaded and updated using Nokia Ovi PC Suite 2.2.1.23

Select only Integrated GPS
In Maps Menu (Spanner Icon).. select OFFLINE mode..
Go in an area open to sky and wait for some time.. (depending upon the Location and Environment you may have to wait between 5 and 25 minutes..)and you will definately find Your Location... Once you get the GPS Lock as it is known... you will not find any difficulty in Navigation..
Using Maps in ONLINE Mode and use of A-GPS / Network aided GPS will make use of Network Data which may be expensive..

Nokia 5800 Does not recognize Outlook 2007

My cel is Nokia 5800 Express Music. Until yesterday my agenda and messages at Microsoft Outlook 2007 synchronized correctly using PC Suite 2.2.0.241. A message in PC Suite appeared suggesting to upgrade to version 2.2.1.23. After upgrading PC Suite does not recognizes Microsoft Outlook 2007 and I cannot synchronize again. I uninstalled version 2.2.1.23 and reinstalled version 2.2.o.241 but it does not work as it request to upgrade to the last version. Please, help me what to do as this feature is of greatest importance for me.

Hello, I have updated my nokia 5800 xm last week using nokia pc suite. Everything was working fine till last week. Now, whenever I recieve a call, I'm not able to answer the call by sliding the answer option in the screen. I have to unlock the touch screen by using the unlock button and then all the buttons in my touch screen works and then i'm able to answer my call.

Instant Messeging on Nokia 5800 not opening

When i open Nokia's inbuit Insant Messenger (IM) under applications on my Nokia 5800, the screen splashes and gets closed. I dont know why? It is strange. All i did so far is just updated my software and now my version is 30.0.0.11 SW version date 29-6-2009. Latest Update was on 20-8-2009.
Any responsible person from nokia developers teeam please help me with this issue. I would like to use it.

Actually you may just need to reinstall it, but I do not know where to get the reinstaller. a hard reset MIGHT do the trick though.
