Maps search nearby in foreign language

last night, i just updated my e90 and my girlfriend's n95 maps application as soon as i found out that have a new update. turns out to be more problems than a blessing.
first of all, all my previously downloaded maps have to be deleted and redownloaded again with the new maps loader. the new menus in maps have been swapped around that it tooks some time getting used to. then we found a bug beta testers definitely missed.
if my maps setting have set never use network, these menus are working fine:
find place >> nearby
or
use this place >> search nearby
but as soon as i turn use network back to when needed, these menus appear in a foreign language what looks to be german. hey com'on i don't read german. this happens exactly identically for both my e90 and my gf's n95. so its not phone specific problem, and it happened to other e90 users in forums. i also know this is not phone region problem bcoz my product code is singapore, and my gf's n95 is hk. so if it was region specific language should it show up in chinese instead? so **bleep**?! i used to love using map to search stuff, now i don't even feel like touching it until it is fixed assuming it will ever be fixed

I can confirm that. Nokia screwed that. They are in German indeed. This update should not be released.Message Edited by simcard on 15-Sep-200706:46 PM

  • Why can't Preview search in a foreign language?

I have a long .pdf document in Russian but find, as in the past, that words placed in Preview's search bar always get no hits.
If Preview can display a text in a foreign language, why can't it search for words in that language?

Try Adobe Reader instead of Preview.
The basic problem is that the pdf format is not reliable for searching, and sometimes even copy/pasting non-Latin text.  Depending on how it is produced, the internal representation of the text can easily become useless garbage.

  • Why the Unavailability of Foreign Language Keyboards in the US?

I am a foreign language student (Russian), and am trying to buy a foreign language apple keyboard (preferably wireless) in the states. I know they are available in Europe (my stepdaughter confirms she can get one thriugh her apple store), yet when I try to do the same here, they deny they even exist!! (This is the case even on the online store!!!)
I tried to order one from one of the European Stores online (actually, more than one) and it won't let me complete the order, even if I make payment in the local currency (pounds, euros, francs, rubles, or what have you).
This is a frustrating (and in my opinion, fairly serious) problem, and I am sure I am not the only one who is going through this fiasco. I certainly don't want to pay 5x the price via a "smuggler", I would rather get peripherials FOR my apple FROM apple.
So Apple, what gives? There's a market for these products here, my MacBook Pro WILL support this product... So why won't you let me buy one (or even admit to me you even have such a thing, when those overseas have free access to them)?

I do not want to get on your case, but Apple is a business, one that tries to make a profit. Carrying items in inventory that serve a tiny number of individuals in the US actually costs them money. But they'd also have to carry inventory in every single foreign language keyboard, and the costs become huge.
Moreover, and with all due respect, if you're here in the US studying, you really need a US English keyboard. And as the other poster said, you have access to the Russian character map for keys, so if you have to write home, you can write in Russian, and you'll be happy.
By the way, all of us here are users like you. Getting annoyed hardly ever gets you help. If you want to complain to Apple go here.

    (1) My iBooks Author help resources are in a foreign language. How do I change it to English? (2) Is there an iBooks Author pdf manual I can download?

There is no PDF available. I sent a link  to a page full of links and info not much different from the help files.
There are many Free books in the iBooks store which will take you through the basics of iBA.
I  like "Create your first Interactive book using iBooks Author"   its created by iBook-Widgets.com - who also  supply widgets at a price.. but the book is very free and very good.. search the iBooks store for their title.
You cannot use iBA on an iPad, however, I also use the iPad app --  "Book Creater"   ( redjumper.net ) its very low priced around $3 or so. The people who  create it are helpful and friendly. You can distribut your books to friends and family  using  Dropbox or other cloud storage. If you want to creaet an ePub file and then upload to the iBooks store, its not difficult.  You create the book on your iPad. It is no where near as good as iBA for functionality.. but it spossible to  make really good eBooks.
I think Applecare shoud come into effect with the language problems if it can be  found to be a glitch on the computer.  Applecare is product based and does not apply to software.
Take it stage by stage,   visit your Apple store and   ask if they can solve the help files in langauges first, then  react to the answer, it could be they can solve the issue which leave you a clear path with iBA.
Also you can  gather more indormation about how to use it with the help files.
Try the info I have  included and   see how it develpops... any problems get back here and we can look for alternatives.
    try this... https://itunes.apple.com/app/id661166101?mt=8&&referrer=click%3Da63089e4-e3d4-49 e9-896a-58e0cfd50acf
its the free version... if you like upgrade later.
Happy New Year... hope its a good one....

  • How can I filter or block foreign language emails or email addresses

How can I filter or block foreign language emails or email addresses??
    TIA
    C

Most email clients have a provision to create a 'rule'. The rule examines the email as it is received. In generally you can search for specifically senders, recipients, subjects, or specific content words in the body. Based upon the findings of the rule, you can do something with the email (such as end it directly to the Trash).
For example if you know where all of valid you emails come from, you can create a rule that checks the from field for an acceptable sender and sends those email's that to the inbox, while sending all emails from other senders to the trash or spam folder
Keeping out foreign language emails is often difficult because because often it is difficult to come up with a rule that will catch them on the basis of language they are written in.
There are also commercial products that can scan incoming email and 'score' the email based upon content, and you decide at what 'score'  you want the mail sent straight to the trash or spam folder. Verizon's spam filter does this based upon Verizon's scoring system, and actually does catch a lot of spam. It also occaisonally catches things that are not spam however....
    Hope that is helpful

  • Install Foreign Language Fonts

    Hello,
I am trying to install foreign language unicode fonts (Japanese) on my Macbook Pro. In particular, I am trying to install these fonts: http://www.dennybritz.com/ttf30.zip. The fonts install fine under Windows.
However, Mac OS X does not recognize them as unicode or Japanese fonts. The font name contains weird characters and I cannot use them when typing in Japanese.
    Any suggestions?
    Thank you,
    Denny

Denny, I tried installing the two “marugo” fonts from the archive using Font Book, and they installed fine. I then tried using them: the katakana came out OK while typing, but not the kanji — however, kanji typed in a standard Apple Japanese font could be copied and pasted, and the font could then be changed to one of those in the archive.
I suspect that the problem is that these fonts date back to 2000, and that they were made for Windows; the reason that the font names appear strange is because the character set of the font names is encoded in Shift JIS, while the bytes in those names are treated as being MacRoman under Mac OS X. (Their intended names can be seen [here|http://www.wazu.jp/gallery/Fonts_Japanese.html] — search for “EPSON” in that page.) The font files would likely need to be modified (using an appropriate tool, e.g. FontForge) to work as expected under Mac OS X.

  • Keynote Spanish Spell Check - Keynote Foreign Language Spell Check

After a fruitless search online and in Keynote Help (and just when I was on the verge of upgrading MS Office) I did learn how to spell check in foreign languages in Keynote. This works through the following Keynote menu selections:
Edit/Spelling/Spelling then click the tab at the bottom of the window to select your spell check language.
Thanks to Sara at Apple Tech Support!

  • Firefox loaded in some foreign language. I need to have the home page in English so that I can navigate.

I just installed Firefox last night and the home page is in a foreign language. I cannot use it to navigate, as I cannot read the language.

You can try to delete search.sqlite and search.json in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Firefox Profile Folder]
You can also try to reset the defaults:
    # Left-click the search engines icon on the search bar
    # Open "Manage Search Engines"

  • Why have some of my toolbar settings suddenly appeared in a foreign language?

I tried to post a screen shot, but I can't paste here apparently. The toolbar line that has some of my icons, like Facebook, Skype, and YouTube, also contain items that appear to be written in Arabic or Greek or another foreign language.
Fore example, first one is: rockholmi.ru followed by a search bar, then a green arrow followed by the words: Hantn (both ns are small capital Ns and the first one has this symbol ~ over it. Next comes a globe with the words: Mehho. The first h is capitalized and the second capital H is attached to the o. When I pull down the menu items next to these words, they are also in these mysterious languages. However, the rest of my toolbar is in English! Help, please!

  • Any advice for FOREIGN language lyrics?

Pearlyrics can only search for English language lyrics .. is there an equivalent for foreign languages such as Chinese and French?

Is there any way to change Apple's default fonts for Greek and Hebrew into these other fonts?
    No.
But word processors often have features like "styles" where you set the font, if that helps. Nisus Writer has a system of preferences where the font can be set for each language.

  • Let me try again! Foreign Language HELP!!

I have my game app (suitable for all foreign languages) on iTune Store and wanted to test the keyword "knife" in the search textfield and my app showed up and I changed the language in Japanese, tested "ナイフ" (knife in Japanese) and my app didnt showed up and also noticed the screenshots and the descriptions arent in Japanese, but in English? I wondered if that applies to all of the foreign languages as well???
What do you think that cause the problem? Should I worry about it?
    Thanks and please respond!

We're other users here....but my best guess is you should see what happens after changing over to the Japanese iTunes store. The USA store is all English.
store home page, very bottom, has the link to change the country.

  • Foreign Language Spell Check with Mail

I understand that using Pages, one can set different languages for Spell Check, but I seem unable to do this when writing e-mail messages. Is it possible to type an e-mail in a foreign language, and set Mail or is it elsewhere - to have spell-check not underline every foreign word in red - but to actually correct real spelling errors in the selected language - other then English? And can I then I toggle back and forth between spell-check in various languages, as my correspondences take place in a number of languages?
    Thanks in advance,
    john

your suggestion is specific to Mail
Actually, any application that uses the basic text editing features of the OS will use the same spelling system. Pages seems to have its own spelling system that actually looks inferior (at least in my '08 version).
what if I am looking for Hungarian - a language not listed in the pop-up section.
You are going to have to do some research. There are a couple of options listed here: http://neowiki.neooffice.org/index.php/AddingAdditionalDictionaries
I have no idea if they will work.
A Google search suggests that Snow Leopard does have a Hungarian spell-check - but the question is - where?
I don't think so. The link above indicates that you may be able to add dictionaries, including one for Hungarian. The screenshots were old, so I'm not sure if it still works. It's all in Hungarian so that's all I can tell from the site.
And can it be used with Mail?
Yes. Once you get it installed into the OS spelling system, it will be available throughout the OS - except for those applications that have their own system.

  • Foreign Language in Print Dialog for Officejet K5400

HP Officejet Pro K5400 on Windows XP
Although the tabs and the first screens in the print dialog box are in English, suddenly there is a foreign language in the dialog boxes under Properties.  For example, under features (English tab), the Paper Type is Almindelgt papir and the Paper Source is Valg automatisk.  Photo fix is Fra, Grundlaeggende, or Fuld.
I have searched online and found instructions for changing an HP dll file for several printer models but not this one.
Uninstalling and reinstalling from the CD or as a fresh download from HP did not fix it.
I suspect it has something to do with new installation of Adobe Reader X, but uninstalling it did not fix it.
I called HP tech support and was told to call Microsoft.
    I would appreciate any suggestions.
    Thanks!

Nobody here has any way to tell you that, and Apple itself never provides this kind of info.  Make sure you tell them you want it here:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipad.html
(Even on a desktop/laptop Mac with the full version of OS X Ethiopic currently requires installing 3rd party software.  I can provide the source if you are interested)
