Maps tells me I'm in England

Friday Apr 25 while traveling south between Eckert and Fredricksburg TX on 16 I asked Google Maps to locate me. Three time over about ten minutes it told me I was in England.
Where I was: http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&ll=30.347695,-98.787346&spn=0.182508,0.257149&z= 12
Where maps told me I was: http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&ll=51.1143,-0.703125&spn=0.132765,0.257149&z=12
Funny/strange. Anyone else seen such wide ranging results?
gbs

Most issues such as this are caused by having WiFi on and somewhere in the area you were were WiFi spots that for possible reasons were tagged at one time elsewhere. There are stories on here where a neighbor of somebody moved in and after doing so, the iPhone user picked up his neighbors WiFi which they use to live in another country. That WiFi mac address was surveyed long ago as being in that other county so anytime the iPhone user said locate me, it said that other country.
Locate me first will read all available WiFi spots around you (you don't have to be connected, but if WiFi is on, then it will find all around. It then will read MAC addresses and send that info in looking for matches. If wound, it will return last known spot of that WiFi spot as recorded by the company that made all that data.
If WiFi is off or no surveyed WiFi spot found, it will then just return the tower info.

  • RE: [iPlanet-JATO] Re: Deployment problem

    Chidu,
I think that you are mired in the very common confusion of the default
behavior of the ApplicationServletBase.parsePathInfo() which will determine
the controlling/handling ViewBean via a URL design pattern. Lets take a look
    at the URL
    /NASApp/MigtoolboxSampleAppWar/MigtoolboxSample/IndexPage.jsp
    is decomposed as follows:
/NASApp -> well, this is long story but is absolutely necessary, welcome to
    iAS
/MigtoolboxSampleAppWar -> is the web application name, taken as the name of
the WAR file when there is no EAR file (this allows the Servlet/JSP
container to deferences the web application root under
<ias>/APPS/modules/MigtoolboxSampleAppWar) I think this part of the URL is
    called th Context Path
/MigtoolboxSample -> is the Servlet Path, and will either directly reference
    or match a Servlet Mapping
    for instance
    <servlet-mapping>
    <servlet-name>MigtoolboxSampleServlet</servlet-name>
    <url-pattern>/MigtoolboxSample/*</url-pattern>
    </servlet-mapping>
tells the Servlet Container that the Servlet Path
    /MigtoolboxSample
maps to the Module Servlet MigtoolboxSampleServlet
This is how EVERY request makes its way to the "front controller" pattern in
JATO. It is fundamental to JATO Applicatioan that every request pass
    through the ModuleServlet.
every else on the URL past the Servlet Path is the PATH INFO. Based on this
understanding, you will see why the
    ApplicationServletBase.parsePathInfo()
is so important. In parsePathInfo() the PATH INFO is compared to the design
    pattern
    /VIEWBEANNAME*
to determine the handling ViewBean from the first String Token in the path
info. For instance, the starting URL of the Sample Application is
    /NASApp/MigtoolboxSampleAppWar/MigtoolboxSample/IndexPage
    The PATH INFO is [IndexPage]
and IndexPage[ViewBean] is the handling ViewBean. Therefore, any simiarl
    URL like
    /NASApp/MigtoolboxSampleAppWar/MigtoolboxSample/IndexPage.jsp
    /NASApp/MigtoolboxSampleAppWar/MigtoolboxSample/IndexPage.matt
    /NASApp/MigtoolboxSampleAppWar/MigtoolboxSample/IndexPage.mike
    /NASApp/MigtoolboxSampleAppWar/MigtoolboxSample/IndexPage.chidu
    /NASApp/MigtoolboxSampleAppWar/MigtoolboxSample/IndexPage.XXX
will all result in the same handling View Bean
    IndexPageViewBean
It is very important to understand that you CANNOT hit the JATO JSPs
directly. You must hit the "front controller" ModuleServlet which will
always delegate control to the handling ViewBean (a la, the "service to
    workers" pattern)
You can attempt to hit the JSP directly but you need the right J2EE URL
    /NASApp/MigtoolboxSampleAppWar/MigtoolboxSampleApp/MigtoolboxSample/IndexPag
    e.jsp
this URL will directly hit the JSP. However, you will recieve an error
because the JATO framework quickly determines that there is no
RequestContext in the HttpRequest attributes and assumes that the "front
controller" was bypassed. Try it. You will get ERROR.
Lets go back to what you are trying to do, place Models and Viewbeans in
separate directories. I recommend that you move the Models. Models are
ONLY referenced by TYPE via the ModelManager, the compiler will ensure that
your code is correct and matches the packages, file locations, import
statements, etc. ViewBeans, on the other hand are related to the
ModuleServlet their are contained in and are loaded via type names according
    to a design pattern.
if you want to separate models and Viewbean then simply move the Model and
    make sure everything compiles.
    you cannot move the ViewBeans
if you do want to move the JSP peers of the Viewbeans, then you can put them
anywhere in the web application doc root. When you do, update the
    DEFAULT_DISPLAY_URL as Mike suggested
    matt

    Chidu,
Did you have it running fine in the original default configuration, before
you started changing things around? The URL should not access the .jsp
directly. The URL should look more like this
    "/NASApp/MigtoolboxSampleAppWar/MigtoolboxSample/IndexPage", without the
    .jsp.
Also, please read the "Migration Tech Notes" document that is
    linked to the

  • Lightroom's 4 color "spaces"

I’m working on designing an advanced photography course. This course makes use of Lightroom and Photoshop in the photographic workflow.
I’m learning and researching myself as I go along, and I feel I have reached a ceiling on what I can work out from the sources at my disposal thus far.
So I am turning here for help.
I am trying to clarify how tones and colours are affected from the actual scene through to the printed page. This might seem like overkill to some. However, there is a lot of misunderstanding and confusion, not to mention heated discussions amongst photographers about these issues. I’m experimenting with metering and colour / tone targets and my calculations are only meaningful if I understand how tones and colours are affected at every stage of the workflow.
    Here’s how I understand it:
There are 4 (sort of) Colour “spaces” in Develop where a real-time dynamic preview of an image is rendered
    1.       The “viewing space” (ProPhotoRGB Chromaticity co-ordinates, sRGB gamma)
    2.       The “computational space” (ProPhotoRGB chromaticity co-ordinates, linear gamma – “MelissaRGB”)
(Martin Evening’s Lightroom 3 book published by Adobe press - Appendix B, section on color space page 628-632)
Below that, things get a little fuzzy. According to Jeff Schewe (Real World Camera RAW for CS5, page 32) there is a sort of
    3.            “Native Camera Space” and of course there is the
    4.            RAW data in the file on disk.
So to generate the dynamically rendered preview, the image goes through the four “layers” as follows (from bottom to top). This is almost certainly flawed, but one has to start somewhere when trying to work things out :-)
    1. The RAW file is read from disk. Colorimetric interpretation is performed using a camera profile (e.g. Adobe Standard for whatever camera it is you are using). This process puts the image data into “Native camera space” (“Plotted” onto CIE XYZ with D50 white point)
    2. In “Native camera space, the scene white balance (as selected by user, guessed by Lightroom or reported by camera) as well as additional camera calibration panel matrix tweaks “informs” the colorimetric conversion into Lightroom’s “computational space” e.g. Melissa RGB. The colorimetric definition of camera RGB primaries and white is re-DEFINED. The demosaicing as well as chromatic aberration corrections are performed in “native camera space”
    3. Almost all image processing calculations occur computationally in the  “MelissaRGB Lightroom computational space”
    4. What is displayed on the screen, however, has an sRGB tone curve applied. This represents the “viewing” space. The histogram is generated from this and the RGB colour percentage readouts are generated from this as well. In addition, some slider controls from user input are weighted back through the tone curve into the computational space below.
Could someone from Adobe kindly help me to clarify the steps? Eric are you reading this? :-)
    Thanks in advance

Sandy - Thanks for the link. The spreadsheets you posted on your site is quite helpful.
Jao – I think what you said goes to the heart of what I am trying to achieve here: “Photograph a grey target at the exact same exposure with the exact same lighting but with different cameras and you'll end up with different values in the raw files” Which is why I encourage photographers to experiment with their cameras in order to understand exactly how the camera will respond in the heat of a real shoot. Set up a scene; take a picture, open in Lightroom. What is clipped and why? Use a reflective spot meter. Repeat. Use a hand held incident meter. Repeat. How much can you reliably recover? Are you happy with what your meter considers the mid-point (and what you set your exposure for on the camera) or do you need to compensate? Just how much latitude do you have between what your camera histogram shows as a blown out highlight and what Lightroom shows as a blown out highlight. This relates to tone. I could go on with more examples, but by now, I am (hopefully) making more sense.
I’m merely trying to clarify that which is already public in order to form a coherent mental picture. And by mental picture I do not mean an accurate representation of the minutiae and maths involved. Think of a subway map. It represents a bird’s eye view of a transportation system in a logical fashion, yet it bears almost no resemblance to the cartographical reality of the physical topography. I really don’t care where the tunnels go, how they were dug, how they are maintained or where they twist and turn. What I AM looking for is a logical (not physical) map. This map tells me where the different lines begin and end, and where I can change from one line to the other. The most important quality of the map as a whole is that it provides context. You can tell, at a glance, how different lines interact with each other and even how it links to other entities such as bus stations or public landmarks.
As many have rightfully pointed out, I should not have to care about the maths/secret sauce/internal calculations. And I don’t. In addition, I am a very happy Lightroom user and I am very comfortable using it. I know what a user needs to know to get his picture from A to B. There is no shortage of information on how to accomplish that.
It might help if I illustrate what I am trying to do below:
Please excuse the low resolution, the maximum height allowed for upload is 600 pixels. The picture below goes on the bottom left of the "layer" picture above.
Even though there are certainly many mistakes in my diagram, this is a helpful visualisation. I derived this diagram from publicly available information. As the subway map, this is a logical (not physical) representation that provides context in a visual form. With a little help from people like Eric I am sure I can correct and expand it. The net result is an enhanced understanding of Lightroom and ACR and where it fits into the photographic process, both in terms of tone and colour.
I am not posting the entire chart here since I am not even certain that a 4 “layered” representation is an appropriate logical representation. I posted the spine of the chart with the 4 “layers” and one part that elaborates on the colorimetric interpretation between the two bottom layers. Comments and corrections are welcomed. And I am convinced that this can be accomplished without divulging anything confidential.

  • 3G data consumption vs. 4G data consumption

I have the HTC One M8 and since I often drop to 3G and 4G is pretty weak here anyway (Phoenix,AZ), I decided to keep it on 3G only since I hear 3G eats up less battery. I have had a few different devices since LTE was introduced here and regardless, 4G was weak or very inconsistent regardless of what the coverage map tells me. So far after a couple of days it seems to be paying off but was not sure if using 3G would use more or less data. I never exceed my cap or even come close, but am just curious if there was a difference in consumption. Thanks!

Hi krisbo84 - We want your brother to always get the most out of his device! I apologize for any confusion however the device does not have a specific setting to enable 3G data only. We are unable to support any 3rd party apps that may claim to allow this function. Data will be used the same way whether on 3G or 4G, the only reason it may seem like it is more is because you can do more at a faster pace. Web page loading or video streaming is going to use the same amount of data on either network.

    Any ideas folks? Thanx

    da.master,
Go outside with the iPhone where you have as much unobstructed view of the sky as possible, preferably at least 300m from where you have been trying.
Open maps, tell it to search for your location. Do not let the iPhone autolock or go to sleep for at least 15-30 minutes.
It should eventually find your location, and future attempts to find your location.
If it jumps back to Santa Monica when you go home, it may indicate that one of the WiFi networks in your area is incorrectly mapped as being in Santa Monica.
    Hope this helps,
    Nathan C.

  • Ejb3 app functions only when both .jsf and .jsp is present

    Hi All,
I have the following problem: when I try to remove either of booking.jsp and booking.jsf (having same contents) from the directory tree of app.war (following), I get the message HTTP status 404 The requested resource (/s_ejb3_jb421_tobbfele/pages/booking.jsp) is not available.

Chapter "Creating the index.jsp File" might help you with the question about processing "jsp only" pages

  • Sharing a printer Mac printer with a Vista PC

I would like some assistance with sharing my printer between an iMac and a Vista PC.  My printer is directly connected to the iMac and both computers are quite happily talking to each other on the network via the router (the iMac is wirelessly connected to the router and the PC is connected via Ethernet).
I have both computers on the same WORKGROUP.  I have printer sharing set on the iMac and on the PC Network settings.  I have been through the 'Add a printer...' wizard on the PC but it does not bring up the network printer attached to the iMac after it's search - it just says no printers found.
I have tried doing it manually and searching for the printer but I can't find it.
I'm running Mac OS X Mountain Lion (latest updates) and Windows Vista Home Premium with Service Pack 2 and all latest updates installed.
I have had this set up working the other way round, printer connected to PC by USB and the iMac connects to it remotely with no problems.  I suppose I'm just missing something obvious but any help will be gratefully received.

    Hi
Thanks for the info about Bonjour.  I did manage to download this and eventually got it started and running.  I was then able to 'see' the printer attached to the Mac.  However, it will not print from Windows.
Sometimes it goes through the motions and a document ends up in the print queue - the printer then starts up and spits out a blank page.  Other times it tells me there are no printers available and I have to run the print wizard again.  I've tried printing from Word, from the net and from a PDF, also from Memory Map - which is the application I wish to use this for, but nothing works - in fact Memory Map tells me there are no printers available at all.
Does this only work with relatively new printers?  Mine is about 4 or 5 years old - Canon IP4700.
    Thanks for your help anyway.

  • Current location not find

i m having an ipod touch 4g but it never show my current postion in maps tell me wat to do???

You do have location turned on in Settings, right?
Does it work when you are near other routers?
Have you tried resetting yur iPod:
Reset iPod touch:  Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
The location feature uses the location of wifi routers that are in Apple's database.  Not all routers are in the database.
