March 2009 Software Updates for C4580

I only have two problems left with my printer:  (1) it loses its connection if you don't print for a while and (2) it becomes unresponsive if you don't print for a while.  The only way to cure either issue is to restart my whole system including modem and routers, unplugging the printer and leaving it unplugged for at least 5 minutes (if I don't, it turns on automatically when I plug it in, and it is still unresponsive).
I was delighted to see the patches - I had read that the one to cure the unresponsiveness was due out in March.  Here's the problem:  I can't install either one of them!  When I look up the drivers for my specific printer, both of these are listed.  The one to correct the connection loss says that I don't have the right device so I don't need the update.  The one to correct unresponsiveness insists that my printer is not connected...even though it is and is printing just fine.
I don't understand in the first case if the driver is listed under my model why I am blocked from download, and in the second case why it can't seem to "find" my printer.  As an attempt around this, I ran my HP Update software and it did download an update xx.xx.12 (I don't remember the first part!).  So, I'm wondering if those fixes were in the update - does anyone know if there is a way to find out?  I've searched everywhere to try to find out.  And if not, does anyone have any experience with these patches that might be able to help me troubleshoot?  I'm out of ideas.
Thank you very much for your time!!!

The saga continues. The iMac would not restart after either a shutdown, restart, or sleep cycle. I opened it back up, removed and replaced the RAM, and it started fine. But would not restart - just a black screen, no startup chime, and 100% fan speed.
I removed the back and put it right back on - no other hardware changes. Same sequence: good first boot, failed subsequent boots.
I unscrewed the back, DIDN'T move it AT ALL, screwed it back together, and same sequence: good first boot. Very strange. The iMac must have a continuity check that involves the three screws. When the screws get backed out, the circuit must get broken and trigger something.
So I ran the OS X 10.5.2 combo updater over top of the existing 10.5.2 install. After the install was complete, I got a little message that said the computer needed to update Boot Cache files and restart. Crossing my fingers, I clicked OK.
So far no problems. My guess is that there is a hardware override of boot cache after the case is opened. Then on subsequent reboots without a hardware config change (actual or assumed by a screw movement), the system looks for the boot cache. The recent updates corrupted those files or something in the process, making the mac hang. By over-installing the combo update, I forced the boot caches into a usable format again.
The phantom part is shown in this photo. (Right click and open in new window to see bigger). The offending part and gapping are both on the power button and peripheral port side of the computer (left when viewed from the back). It looks like a printed circuit board held on by a hard drive mounting screw: .
The right side is perfectly flush as it's supposed to be. The case warping on the left side is shown in this photo: .
Any thoughts?

  • Can't install iPhone 2.0 Software Update for iPod touch

I am trying to download the iPhone 2.0 Software Update for iPod touch from http://www.apple.com/ipodtouch/whatsnew.html so I can download apps for my new iPod touch. (Although it is pretty bogus that I should have to pay $10 for an upgrade on a brand new device so that I have the privilege to buy apps). I have iTunes 7.7 already installed.
When I click on the link https://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZFinance.woa/wa/touchLandingPage , I do not get a download, and iTunes does not open. Nothing happens if I open iTunes before trying this link either.
Instead, I get a brief page which says "One Momemt Please". Connecting to the iTunes Store. Loading... If iTunes doen't open, click the iTunes application in your Doc or Windows Task Bar" , then my browser is redirected to http://www.apple.com/itunes/affiliates/download/?itmsUrl=itmss%3A%2F%2Fphobos.ap ple.com%2FWebObjects%2FMZFinance.woa%2Fwa%2FtouchLandingPage%3Fign-mscache%3D1 which tells me to download iTunes... but I already have iTunes installed.
I installed (then uninstalled, reinstalled) the latest iTunes (7.7.0.43) and the problem persists. iTunes works fine for all other uses.
I have the problem with both Firefox (3.0) and Internet Explorer (6)
How can I download and install The iPhone 2.0 Software Update for iPod touch directly from iTunes? I cannot find it when I search for it. It is not listed in the App store.
(P.S. The web support form does not work when I tried to fill out a problem report for "Connection" issues. Although I filled in all form fields, it would not send the report, telling me I did not fill in a field.)

The upgrade now appears directly in iTunes, so I do not need to access it from the web page. I see many others are encountering problems installing the upgrade, so I'll see how it goes...
There is no answer to the initial problem that iTunes install does not configure the browsers to handle the itmss:// protocol.
I still think Apple should not charge for this for a brand new iPod purchased just this week.

because you do not have a 3rd generation device. The OS Version says so , otherwise you would be at 4.3.5 minimum and also Itunes is also always correct in determining if you have the latest OS ( if not it fetches the newest from Apple's Servers ) . And because a 2nd generation iPod stops at 4.2.1 you can't get the newest OS, because your device is old. Buy a new iPod , they have iOS5 preinstalled.

  • New software update for iPod touch 4th generation? PLEASE HELP!!

Ok so here is the problem: I have the iPod touch 4th generation with software version 4.3 (I have had my iPod for about 7 months) and recently within the past week or so I have started experiencing multiple crashes with many different various apps and games. Just random games crashing and then I noticed it happening with the Facebook app and even Safari on my iPod! I had to get off of my iPod and come on the computer to type this message out because Safari would crash every single time I tried to type this on my iPod! So at first I figured it was the apps and games' problems, but then as more and more began to crash, like Facebook and Safari, I figured it is the Apple software version 4.3 acting up. So I was wondering, is Apple working on a new software update for iPod touch 4th gen.? Or is this a rare problem? Is there anyone out there having this same problem? Or anyone at all that can PLEASE help me?! MANY THANKS!
    - Sam Amos

No one would know what Apple is working on, unless they announce, which they very rarely do.
Have you tried the basics from the manual?
    restart.
    reset.
    restore.

    Yes.
Choose Apple menu > Restart. Hold down the Command (⌘) and R keys as your computer restarts.
When you see a white screen with an Apple logo in the middle, you can release the keys.
Click Disk Utility, and then click Continue.
In the list at the left, select the item you want to repair. (Be sure to select an item that’s indented to the right in the list, not an item at the far left.)
    Click First Aid.
If Disk Utility tells you the disk is about to fail, back it up and replace it. You can’t repair it.
    Click Repair Disk.
If Disk Utility reports that the disk appears to be OK or has been repaired, you’re done.
Otherwise, you may need to do one of the following steps.
If Disk Utility can’t repair your disk or it reports “The underlying task reported failure,” try to repair the disk or partition again. If that doesn’t work, back up as much of your data as possible, reformat the disk, reinstall Mac OS X, and then restore your backed-up data.
If you continue to have problems with your disk, it may be physically damaged and need to be replaced

  • HT1338 Why every time I get an Apple software update for my MacBook Pro click on it but at never opens up it always error

Why when I get a software update for my MacBook Pro i click on it for some reason it never connects to the server I can never get my software update is anyone else having this problem? if so what do I do? i have the 2007 macbook pro Mountain lion 10.8.2

Start up from that Mac OS X 10.4 disc you have.  Insert disc in optical drive and start up with the C key held down.  On the first Installer screen, from the menu bar, under Utilities, select to run Disk Utility.
In Disk Utility, select your startup volume (usually "Macintosh HD") in the sidebar and go to the First Aid tab.  Run Verify Disk.  If it reports a problem, that may be the reason for your long-term difficulties. You hard drive volume has data corruption.
You can try Repair Disk in Disk Utility.  However, it would be a very good idea to have a backup of the data on that disk, in case the attempt to repair makes the problem worse.

I purchased the newest software update for my ipod touch 1st generation and it is saying it is it will now begin download but the status bar doesn't even appear? How can I start the download?

Well first off you shouldn't have had to pay for a download (just an assumption from the word "purchased".
If you are trying to install iOS 5 on your iPod touch, it won't work they arent compatible. I suggest checking what version of software you are trying to install and posting it in this forum so people can have a better understanding.

what do i do after downloading iOS 3.1 software and "There was a problem downloading iOS 3.1.1 software update for ipod touch. an unknown error occurred (8288). Please check that the connection to the network is active and try again." comes up?

Hello, I hope by now you have resolved the upgrade issue, but if not, here is what I ended up having to do:
“SUCCESS!!! I took my iPod to a friend who is a computer programmer/genius. He turned off his wireless, hooked the ethernet cable directly into his computer, and the download went through without a hitch. YAY!”
Here is my original post explaining what I had already tried:
    “Hi all,
I got an iPod Touch 1st gen for my youngest son for Christmas as a starter. It has the 2.1.2 ios on it, but after I paid for the upgrade to 3.1.1, I keep getting an error message (8288) saying there was a problem with the network connection. I have called customer service, and they suggested I try on a different computer, and if that didn't work, try connecting to a different network, and then trying the update. None of this has worked. It seems that tech support is clueless with this issue.
I have installed and unistalled iTunes 10.5, 10.3, 10.4, and now I am back with 10.5. I have tried looking up the issue from several search engines but no one seems to have a universal solution and I have tried several.
I really want to have this thing updated for himw hwne he opens it, but I am starting to worry that my purchase was a bust. I know this is the oldest version, but I don't want to buy a newer, more expensive iPod and him still not be mature enough to really take care of it. As I said, this one is a starter.
    Can anyone help? Please?!
    Thank you!!!
P.S. We have a PC, with Windows XP Home.”
Now, there seem to be a lot of different ways to solve the 8288 error, none of which are universal. Best of luck getting yours upgraded!

I’m not trying to bash, it just bothers me that he put up this whole story and finally, at the very end of his blog post, posts his solution.

How do we get a software update for realplayer that comes with the phone ?  Thanks.

You wait for a firmware update that includes it.
S60v5 phones also have a gizmo called "Application update". Sometimes elements in the firmware receive an update that way. For example, there was recently an update to FlashLite 3.1 on the 5800 XpressMusic.
