March 9 FBI to shut off the internet.

Not sure if this is true. FBI thinks this is needed to be done. A virus needs to be cleaned, and if you have the Virus after it is cleaned you can't get in the web if you have it. Just would require you to clean your computer to connect again.
Be prepared in case the articles and rumors turn out true.

Here's a fairly detailed article about this, from a reliable site: http://securitywatch.pcmag.com/malware/293327-will-your-browser-go-dark-on-march-8. It has a link to an Avira tool to work on your own system prior to March 8, thus avoiding any federally induced loss of connectivity. Here is that Avira link: http://techblog.avira.com/2012/01/23/avira-dns-repair-tool-released/en/.

Can you shut off the Internet on a iPhone 4 and then use the phone as normal

I assume that you're asking if you can shut off cellular data (as no individual can shut off the Internet! )? Yes, you can turn off cellular data and use the phone features (except for MMS which requires cellular data) and access the Interenet via WiFi.

  • When I close my laptop, it shuts off the internet?

    Hi there,
I have a macbook pro laptop. everytime i shut the lid of my macbook, the internet turns off.
    Can anyone help me?
    Regards,
    Ari

Yes, because it goes to sleep and saves power, which the Wifi consumes much of.
If your computer is not reconnecting after you wake the machine up, it's likely because your router is set to "hidden" network and Mac's for security reasons, won't ask again automatically.
Since hidden networks are not hidden to hackers, it makes little sense to hide it unless your in a very high traffic area like a airport terminal with many devices attempting to connect. can overload the router.

  • I use Firefox to access the internet-but when I go off the internet but don't shut down, then go back on Firefox it won't open because "it is already running". Task Manager doesn't show that it is operating so I can't shut it off. What to do?

It is in the question but to repeat.
    1. When I go online I use Mozilla Firefox
    2. While I am doing other work, I usually close the internet.
    3. If I go back on the internet and click on Mozilla it won't come up, stating that "it is already running".
    4. Despite that, when I open Task Manager, it doesn't show that it is running so I can't shut it down or open it.
    5. If I log off or shut off the computer, then after I log in or reboot the computer, I can open Mozilla.
    Thanks from a Mozilla fan.

I was wondering if there is a way to shut off the install mode on my G3 every time I plug in the USB to my Mac. I have an android manager software Mobile Go that this seems to be preventing it from connecting

as62467 We appreciate your G3 question! Let's see how we can help. What you are able to adjust is the USB connection mode by going to the home screen and selecting'recent apps' (in the touch keys bar), settings, storage, the menu (the 3 tiny dots) and tap usb pc connection. If you do not want the software to try and install choose either the internet connection or camera option. Let us know if this helps.

  • Network is ok, but I keep getting knocked off the internet

I have a Linksys Wireless network router, and it has been woring fine for years. As of a few days ago, out of the blue, I started getting knocked off the internet. The network connection stays constant, four bars, but the internet connection fails. Sometimes if I disable and re-enable the airport a few times, it will re-connect, sometimes I have to shut the lid and open it again, and sometimes I have to restart to get it to re-connect. It then stays connected from ten minutes to an hour, and the internet fails again. I have rebooted, cleared my 'favorite networks', and reset the PRAM, but to no avail. I know it is not the router, because my other laptop on the network never gets disconnected from the internet, just my mac. Help?

Yea, the other one is a PC. The static IP seems to have worked for now, Ill see how it works for the next few hours. Thanks.

Every time I use firefox I can't print full pages off the internet. I will find the page I want, for example, map quest. I push the print button and my printer prints the entire page in one forth of the space. The entire page I printed can be found in the upper left hand corner of the full page, just shrunk down to a fourth of its size. How can i get a full page printed from the internet?

  • QUESTION:  in Adobe Reader 9, i cannot shut off the pale blue color on

my files.  it appeared one day unwanted and un-announced, like a bum on my doorstep.  i use Skype extensively.  its an extra step to click on the Adobe window to shut off the pale blue color, so i can read the page clearly when my Skype window is open.  i have to do it for every damned page, and it's a pain.  the problem occurs when i'm not on Skype, too.  HELP !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry, I perfectly don't understand your comment/question.  Can you provide a screenshot?  Also, what is your operating system?

  • Shutting off the TV also shuts off ATV.

I have the latest ATV. It is connected to my Home theater system using HDMI. The TV is connected to the amplifier by HDMI. I want to shut down the TV while the music is streamed from my computer. When I  shut off the TV the ATV also shuts down. Actually it doesn't really shut down, when I turn on the TV the music selection is merely paused. This occurs using Ethernet or WI-FI. It doesn't matter if I use a remote or the power button on the TV. The ATV power connection is on a different outlet. Any clues?

A sleeping iPod consumes almost no battery. If you'll use it again in a couple of hours, shutting it off might actually drain the battery faster since restarting puts some strain on it as well.
As for WiFi, shutting that off (as well as the Push feature) will definitely save battery.
Have a look on this page for further info: http://www.apple.com/batteries/ipods.html
    Hope this helps.

  • HT1539 i was downloading the movie and was unexpectedly cut off the internet can i still download the rest of the movie from istore with same digital code

i was recently downloading a movie from the itunes store and was cut off the internet and the movie didnt finishe downloading how do i finish the download for said movie?

Look under the Store menu in iTunes for the "Check for available downloads" command and run that. You may find the movie there to be downloaded.
If not, contact the iTunes Store Customer Service department from their Support page (click "Contact Support" and follow the instructions to get to the contact form) and explain the problem to them.

  • EMac Panther - Using external monitor, I want to shut off the main monitor.

Hello guys and gals. I have an eMac with Panther. I'm using the VGA adapter so I can use a nice LCD TV as my screen. It works great and as you may know, it will only mirror the main screen (both screens show the same thing).
What I want to do is shut off the eMac Monitor (crt) and only use the external LCD through the VGA Adapter. Is this possible?
    Thanks in advance!

Try using the Desktop & Screen Saver pane of System Preferences to set a hot corner on the display and using that corner to sleep it. If that doesn't work, it can't be done.

  • I do not have a fax machin, but get a fax message when I try to print something off the internet and can't get rid of the pop-up so how to fix?

I have been dealing with this problem about a week. I have turned the computer completely off at night, but it does not correct the situation . I cannot print anything off the internet as long as the fax message is on there. I do not have a fax machine and do not want one.

What is that fax message '''on'''? <br />Hard to understand how that is a Firefox support issue as Firefox doesn't have any fax capabilities.
Perchance, do you have an all-in-one printer which can receive a fax message? Printer, scanner, and fax machine combined.<br />
If so, try looking at your user manual for that all-in-one to learn how to print that message. Or consult with a support forum for that brand all-in-one printer.
Or maybe your problem is with the Windows 7 Fax and Scan feature? <br />

every time I go to a new site a bar is lowered and ask to update my plugin. I am using mac 10.4.11 G4 The new plugin will not work. How do I shut off the plugin update so I don't get this anoying bar ever time I go to a new web page. If there is no way to shut it off, I'll trash Firefox and go back to Safari. This just started and I'm tired of it.

to turn off the messages about outdated plugins, enter "about:config" into the address bar of the browser, confirm the info dialog, then search for the preference named "plugins.hide_infobar_for_outdated_plugin" & double-click it in order to toggle it to "true".
please also note that firefox 3.6.28 was the last build that ran on a powerpc, however if you want to use an up-to-date browser based on firefox you can switch to "tenfourfox" - the downside is it doesn't support plugins at all
