Margin mess

I have the 8500 All-in-One (a909n) printer, just purchased and received about 2 weeks ago. I have worked with the 8500 series printers for quite a few years but have never had this problem before with the margins screwing up and not printing the margins as I set them. I'm sure it's a setting somewhere I haven't been able to find.
When I print single pages it works fine. All of the margin settings I set work the way I set them. It's when I try to print with any option of 2 sided printing that the margins on the top and bottom of the page refuse to take any margin setting, on the printer - in the print preview they display the way I set them, other than the default .25 inches.
Is this just an issue these printers have with 2 sided/duplex printing or is a setting somewhere that I missed that allows duplex printing to accept the margins I set?
I've tried re-aligning the printer. I've tried printing with the borderless option, I've re-installed the driver...the only thing I haven't done is install the software. I would prefer not to install the software if I can continue to avoid it. I don't want all the stuff I'll never use that comes with it on my computer. The printer works fine without the software, other then this margin issue when using the duplex / 2 sided printing options.
How do I make it print the margin settings I set with duplex printing? I assume I should be able to print borderless if I'd want to whether I'm using the two sided options or not. Is that not the case and the printer will just always use the default margins when using duplex?
Thanks in advance for any replies. If I have to install the software I will...but I'd rather not.

  • How can I fix this? Text and images collide, space and margins are not taking into account. The whole page layout is a mess.

    Hi,
Whatever I design in muse is totally different from what the preview in the browser shows. Texts crashed with images, and spaces and margins are not taken into account,
Is there a way to fix this? Is it a bug?
    Thanks.

  • How can I force text in a table to wrap at the margin? Chinese characters result in wide tables.

Hello all ye RoboHelpers out there.
    Background:
We're using RH 9 (latest patch) on Windows 7 machine.
We document in English and then the RH project gets localized into many diff languages and we use that to generate CHM, and Printed outputs.
    The Problem:
In the Chinese language, in printed output, the right border of most tables exeeds well beyond the margin.
Here's what the localized table looks like in the RH editor:
By comparison, here's the equivalent English topic prior to localization:
Our CHM output is fine. In fact, here's what the Chinese looks like in when output to a browser or previewed and I drag the right side to
a narrower width. Notice that the table text appropriately wraps to remain within the window's size:
But here's what it looks like when I generate it in Word's printed output:
Notice the location of the margin at 6.5 inches. It should be wrapping at the margin. And something is weird with the left cell how it's getting pushed so far to the right.
The actual table width ends up around 11 inches! I had some tables last time I did this that were as far out as 18 inches but looked perfectly fine in English!
We use Across Systems for our localization tool, and I've verified that our translators are not messing with the table properties at all; only the text is exposed. One interesting difference I've noticed from other languages, is that Chinese characters do not contain a true space or period characters when we get them back from localization. This makes sentences essentially a really long string of unbroken characters, and I suspect this somehow pushes the generated tables to wide extremes in printed output.
    What I've Tried:
I've tried to change the table properties in Word to auto fit the size of the window.
I've tried setting the width in RH to a specific size and regenerating. Still doesn't help.
I've added in space character and doing that does cause lines to wrap in some cases, but not in all. But I shouldn't have to do this.
I've tried to create a VBA macro in Word to size the tables, but couldn't get it to work.
    What I need:
I need to somehow globally force all the tables' text strings to wrap once they reaches the right margin no mater what, even if the line does not contain space characters. Is there a setting I'm missing somewhere, either on the RH side or the Word side that can do this for these long strings of characters?
I really hope someone else has figured out how to deal with this because last time I did this, I had to go through approximately 500 tables and manually do a very convoluted workaround dragging the table handle in Print layout mode back to the right margin to get the table to wrap appropriately. It was a major pain in neck!
Many thanks in a advance for any ideas you might have.

I wonder the Format Tables macros on my site could be adapted?
    http://www.grainge.org/pages/authoring/word/word_macros.htm
If not, I have used Macro Express to format tables in Rh. No reason it could not be used in Word.

  • How do i reposition the timeline to the left margin?

I dip into FCP Pro X when I have a new project to edit - in between doing other things.  The interface reminds me of the dash on my old Merc A160.  It has very few buttons and they have multiple functions, but to change the time on the clock I always have to consult the manual.  Less is not always more - something Apple struggle to understand sometimes.  If I was using FCP all the time (heaven would be not having several different jobs) I would probably figure it out - but, because there is nothing intuitive about the interface, I have to relearn how to use it every time I come back to it.  Just like the buttons on my Merc.  I have completed a couple of editing projects in FCP.  But I haven't looked at it for some months.  In between I have been using Resolve (because a lot of my footage is shot in Log mode - something FCP doesn't handle at all - and I have to use a LUT to make the clips usable in the editing process).
I have a wedding to edit.  Three cameras, three audio tracks on the cameras plus the church PA audio and a Roderick recording from a mic work by the groom.  I would like to choose an audio track and sync the video to that - but I learned last time that is not possible (or not easy).
I looked at multicam sync clips but I can't see how I can use this to fit my workflow - it requires too many decisions up front and I don't have small clips - I have two 1hr "clips" and some smaller ones from the handheld camera.  I don't want to chop up the "master" clip and I can't see how to easily sync everything together in such a way that I can see it all.   Yes I see that I can choose different angles in a different editor, but I don't want to get into that at this stage - I just want to see all my material in a timeline so I can make major edit decisions first.  Oh I wish I had not thrown out FCP 10...
So what I want to do this morning is just drop clips into the timeline from the main camera, chop it up and remove the bits of the ceremony that I don't want in the final video and then choose clips from the other cameras to replace the main camera.
So, I drop a clip in the timeline.  Its the warmup to the wedding.  People are sitting down.  The organ is playing.  I don't want this in this timelines.  So I trim the clip from left to where I want it to start.  Great.  Except...
... the timeline now starts halfway across the display and I have a blank black box to the left.  I cannot, for the life of me, see how to move the start of the clip back to the left margin.  Nor can I imagine why anyone at Apple thinks this is a useful thing to do?
In between all of this I have the usual Yosemite instability issues and, for whatever reason, Preview keeps crashing so using the FCP User Guide is more or less impossible.
    Any clues?
And don't say use Resolve on Windows instead.  I don't need much persuasion, and I hate Windows.

I don't agree with you here.  Resolve is much easier to use - I don't have to try and get into the heads of the developers and its is easy to see how my material slots into the editor.
I am still trying to get my head around the way FCP organises the material.  Events/Projects?  What are they thinking here?  How does this fit into a wedding video?  I can create meaningful "events" (wedding/photoshoot/reception) etc but why would I?.  Is a "project" just a timeline - a "sequence" in normal film editors?  Why not call it that then?  I cannot figure out what kind of environment Apple were imagining when they came up with this way of organising things?  They must have had some kind of job in mind where events and projects make sense.  The manual is silent on where the clips actually go - are they organised within events?  within projects"  or within both?  Whatever it is, it might be easier to understand what FCP is doing if Apple explained what this structure means and why they have adopted it.  I am left to guess.
What I can't seem to get rid of is the groups (I have no idea what else to call them) which are just a date and under which my clips appear.  I don't want this hierarchy but I can't see how to get rid of it...   Clips that should be together, but were filmed on different dates, are in different places - and I cannot see how to group them together without these dates imposing another level of hierarchy,  I struggled through the last couple of videos not really understanding where my clips were and ended up with multiple copies all over the place.  Right now I don't know if I have all my footage in the library or not - its so hard to construct a meaningful organisation in this crazy interface.  I just deleted 8 copies of a lapel mic audio track - I have no idea how I got 8 copies of that into this library.  Does FCP just import duplicates without warning?  Its so hard to correlate what is in the library with my folder structure on disk...
To my mind, this is one project - a wedding video.  And this video will include multiple sequences.  But my clips need to be ordered in such a away that makes sense to me - I am not sure how to do that in FCP, but its easy in file manager.  The clips were shot in various locations on multiple occasions.  But this has nothing to do with the finished product, which will have its own order of things, not necessarily related to the order of shooting.  In FCP (or Resolve) I would have the clips in bins and my various sequences which I could then assemble.   Now I guess these are projects?  They aren't "projects" at all - at least to in my mind.  I don't like having to think about this project (the wedding video) in some weird way which only makes sense to the FCP developers.  Maybe they never filmed a wedding!
Thanks for the advice re multicam clips.  I came to the same conclusion  but there is an awful lot of stuff to synchronise and I am not confident that FCP will do this in one go.  But now I have to learn and get familiar with the different editing environment for multicam clips.  Oh joy!  I am hoping I can add more clips to a multicam clip afterwards - once I sort out how to get my footage into some meaningful structure without all these surplus dates...  The clips have been imported so that the file structure creates keywords - which would be ok, perhaps, except for this extra date-related hierarchy which means I have to keep expanding the tabs to see the clips.
As for Synchronised clips, if you read the user guide there is nothing to warn you that this is an audio-only sync.  Or which video track you are going to end up with. "For example, if you select two video clips and three audio clips from different sources that were all recorded during the same take, Final Cut Pro automatically analyzes and syncs the clips together into a new clip in the Browser."  Perhaps, when they wrote this manual, they were thinking this would create a multicam clip.  Or maybe its an old manual - I don't suppose they get updated automatically.  Maybe I better go look to see if there is a newer version on Apple's website.
I seem to spend a lot of my time undoing the default settings in FCP.  I don't want my footage disappearing into an impenetrable amorphous mass in some hidden library somewhere, so I have to remember to change that default - the wording in the inspector is not very clear and sometimes I find that it is importing the material into its library and creating another copy.  I generally only notice when my backup software suddenly starts copying gigabytes of data to tape...
I don't want to see my footage an in iMovie layout with no tracks either.  Especially my audio tracks, so I always have to unpack them.  I miss the little buttons to turn off different audio tracks - yes I know there is another way to do this, but its not obvious (as with everything else in this software) and means fumbling around in the interface to find how to do it - and its slower if you want to flip between audio tracks to decide which one to use at any given point.  Its the same with synchronising clips.  You expect to select the clip, right click and get a sync option.  But its in a separate menu under Clip.  Why?  If you want to copy a clip to another library its not under a clip menu - but under the file menu?  Why?  I think its a terrible mess - and I think that Apple introduced a level of complexity to this interface with little to show for it.  I am new to Resolve.  It looks complicated with all its colour wheels and stuff, but actually its very intuitive and easy to use.  And its very easy to structure clips and sequences without having to spend hours trying to figure out how Apple think you should do things.  if you use FCP all the time then fine - you get used to it.  But is it truly a better way to work?   I like structure - it helps me to understand my material - but FCP is anti-structure and forces a virtual schema on its users.  If you like that, well and good - but it shouldn't be compulsory.
I got my head around using keywords - but I hate it - its just extra work for me and I hate the loss of the direct relationship with my material.  Its very hard to see whether I have used all the material or not and how it all fits together.  Now I have duplicated stuff everywhere and lots of things missing - but no real organisation.  And I have to remember how I keyworded clips to find them - not easy in a big project.  And since I have lots of big clips I have to remember not to change the I/O points without first saving the subclip and assigning a keyword.  Extra work and easy to stuff up.  Its a problem too if you edit a subclass without realising it is just a virtual clip so every instance will be edited.  Sometimes thats a good thing, but not always.  The issue is that this happens invisibly so you have to be very careful working with these virtual clips.  Subclips are safer - you always know whats happening - and that's increasingly difficult when you have lots of subclips which are really the same material but grouped separately.
Its much the same with all Apple's software today - its all written from some other planet.  I have had to take out a subscription to Office 365, use Dropbox and oneDrive instead if iCloud and download Resolve to deal with my Blackmagic camera.  Its a consumer world at Apple now - and an iMovie view of the world.  Apple like to hide half the functionality because they think it makes things look easy.  Their manuals are useless and their online Help worse.
And yes, thanks for the Shift-Z.  That works, though finding it in the manual is another matter.  But why this behaviour in the first place?  Is there any reason why you would want your timeline to start halfway across the screen?  Why doesn't the clip just snap back to the left as it would in any other editor?  Its little quirks like this that make this a very frustrating experience.  I am not editing all the time - I am just as likely to be in Dreamweaver, Indesign, Illustrator or Photoshop - or working on business projects.  I don't feel I should have to wade through a badly written user guide or ask basic questions in this forum every time I come back to FCP Pro X - that was never the case with the old FCP.  Its just like the clock on my car - daylight saving happens here twice every year and the time has to be changed.  I always need to refer to the manual.  To my mind that is a crap user interface.
FCP Pro X has some nice new features.  But its hard to justify this when everything else is so hard to use.  Its like connected tracks.  Why is that an improvement?  I always start with an audio track from my master camera - because its on tape and runs for the whole take - but its impossible (or very difficult) to do this in FCP Pro X.  If I have a jumble of clips and its not clear where they fit, I can't assemble them, in sequence on a separate track - I have to connect them, arbitrarily, to an existing track.  And then undo that connection later.  I have to rethink my workflow every time to try and fit in with FCP Pro X.
In an earlier life I was a software developer.  The golden rule of applications in business was that you built your application to suit the workflow of the user.  You could streamline it, but not change the sequence unless the business had made a decision to do that already.  I wrote quite a few large applications for various areas of the business - I used them to make sure they worked, and I used the existing workflow.  A user could come back from holidays and know immediately how to use the app to do their job.  A new user could use the app without weeks of training.  Its not hard to write intuitive software - but its impossible if you set out to impose a new workflow or method of organisation on a user.
Apple seem to have missed this altogether.  FCP will always be a dog, for that reason alone.  I have never used Avid or Premiere Pro, but I imagine no-one else has adopted Apple's upside-down way of doing things.  That spells lots of training issues for anyone adopting FCP Pro X.  And now since you have to work with  colour grading apps, like Resolve, users have to work backwards for Apple and forwards for everyone else, in the same project.
After this project I am going to look seriously at Premiere Pro - but only if I decide I can't use Resolve on its own for everything.  I have been an Apple diehard for 12 years after being a Windows guru for a decade before that.  I am close to giving up on Apple.  Having to buy Office was very difficult - but the Apple apps have been dumbed down (Pages) or were never up to the mark (Numbers).  I can't use iCloud because it doesn't support half my material so I have Microsoft oneDrive which also goes against the grain.  And I am running Yosemite which means crashes at regular intervals and reboots several times a day.
I am an Apple shareholder too.  But I beginning to think they have lost the plot.  I hope not.

I'm having trouble with my graphics, too, not your trouble though.
    As Murray above says,
absolute positioning is wrong! Don't do that.  Browsers keep objects with absolute positioning on the coordinates you set, no matter what monitor size is viewing it and no matter how the rest of the page flows.
I took off absolute positioning and it made an immediate difference - code below. The graphics are now inside their containers.
go here to see what I did: http://mkcolling.com/morionadobe.html
go here to see what you did: http://mkcolling.com/BADmorionadobe.html
    Two other things I noticed:
    1) Remove the height on your containers, too. Instead, use padding to add blank space around the content inside your containers and use margin to add the outside space that separates  the containers.
2)Your spry menu is wider than your outer container. You would fix that on the Spry css.

  • How to create a document with sections that differ in margin and layout

I'm trying to add a pages document 'B' into my new pages document 'A'.
A and B have two entirely different layouts and different document margins. So whenever i copy B into A, B's margins become A's margins and thus B's layout turns into a mess.
I tried adding a section break, column break, layout break.. None resolves the issues.
All ideas on this are appreciated.
    Thank you.

A document has the same size, orientation and margins throughout.
You can however set the minimum margins and use Layout breaks to position text and images within that.
In practice it is best to keep the two separate and combine the finished sets as .pdfs.

  • Site messed up after adding Contact form.

The site is online in its current state: http://www.wientjesvoegwerk.nl/index.html
The site uses (X)HTML, JAVA, PHP and Spry tabbed panels with a CSS layout.
    The current state has:
    <?php include("mail.php"); ?>
    Before the Doctype, etc.
    <?php $xajax->printJavascript('xajax/'); ?>
    In the header.
    But adding:
    <?php echo '<div id="contact_result">'.$form.'</div>'; ?>
to the div where i want to put the mailing form results in problems...
If i add that last line my footer will go up to the header. and i dont know why...
The new code from the form that messes up the site is marked in red.
    The HTML:
    <?php include("mail.php"); ?>

<p>Vaak wordt er bij het kopen van een woning weinig aandacht besteed aan het voegwerk. THE BIG PROBLEMS:
    1. Adding the form to a div (into content div of Spry tabbed panels) results in wrong apearance.
         Footer is put to top.
    2. Adding the form to a div results in broken functions.
Buttons in the Spry tabs dont work anymore.
    3. Java is messed up.
in top screen you read:  printJavascript('xajax/'); ?>
in lower screen in content div:  test2 test3 (text from the 2nd and 3rd Content area of Spry, just so its filled with something) and  '.$form.'  '; ?>
    SOLUTIONS ASKED:
    1. Please help me with the contact form so it will work on my page and no error remains. Im not that good in Java...
    2. Please help me solving the problem with the footer. I dont have any clue anymore why this happens. And why no problems occur without the mail form.
    3. Can anyone tell me why the buttons also lose function? It looks like a similar problem as the footer.
    In short: HELP!

Thank you for pointing me in the right direction. I must honestly say im a hobby programmer that has the capability to learn fast.
A few weeks ago i only knew html, actionscript, etc. I never worked with xhtml, javascript, css, etc. untill now.
But with some help i managed to resolve ALL problems so far, exept 2...
My site has no errors anymore all files are validated 100%!
    The only 2 problems now are;
         1.     The use of <li> for Spry tabs. They make the buttons have a dot in front of them. I hope this can be changed into something that removes the
                 list dots/numbers.
    So from this:
    button
    to this:
    button
         2.     I like to use this email form from: http://www.webbyzone.com/2010/01/10/make-xajax-phpmailer-contact-forms-work/
The code is embedded in my site but doesnt work at all. Please take a look at it...

  • Printing avery labels in address book - margins not right

I'm using Address Book to print out labels for my Christmas card envelopes.
    I've got Avery J8173 labels form Staples - 2 columns and 5 rows - 10 labels per A4 sheet.
    My 2 problems are:
I can't print any more than 5 lines per address - no matter what font size I use - this is annoying with a good number of my addresses, but to get round it I put 2 address elements on one line in Address Book - not a big problem.
The other problem is that the left margin of my addresses is barely 2 mm in from the left edge of the label. This doesn't look very professional. Any ideas? If I try to create a custom label I can indent the addresses in the left column by increasing the margin for the whole page, but I can't do anything about the margin in the right hand column
    Any ideas?
I downloaded Avery DesignPro for Mac, but the labels I've got (J8173) aren't listed, and there are no labels in their list which match the dimensions I need. Bet the PC version is better ...

Well it all boils down to the difference between the US and the UK versions of DesignPro. I hadn't realised that I'd downloaded the US version. I trashed this and all associated files and downloaded the UK version, which has all the necessary 'templates' including J8173. Annoyingly the UK version does not have the graphical elements included with the US version. UK Customer Support told me that they were 'working on it' though why that should be such a difficult job when the US version already has this feature is beyond me!
I've still not fathomed why Address Book ...
    a) makes such a mess of printing these labels - margin way too close to left edge of label
    b) doesn't ley you print any more than 5 lines in an address, even when there's plenty of space
    c) doesn't let you include graphical elements on labels.
Thanks, Apple for another bit of half-done software! I won't begin to mention how hard it is to print pictures from iPhoto formatted the way you want - that's for a different forum!

  • Pages5.1+Mavericks = issues with margins, attaching, transport, pictures, printing, more.

Got Mac Mini with Mountain Lion  ; the GOALS for this computer:
Writing for publication, filling out forms, sending data, photo editing and adjustments, artwork, tasks, email, online consulting, volunteer advocacy, research, etc.
Was beginning to get the hang of things, with some difficulties;but was not finding what I needed.
Unknowingly took bad advice: updated to Mavericks.
    Everything FUBAR'd.
Straightened some things out; at least can access email, get online, do a few things--still can't do meaningful work on it.
Mini = very expensive Entertainment Box; NOT my priority.
I Thought: download programs that can do work.
Got Pages 5.1.  It fails to work right:
    Margins refuse to adjust.
Pictures pasted into Pages document, very hard to adjust on page or get type to wrap around picture, adjust sizing, etc.--time wasting, unable to adjust as wanted on pages--settled for what it would do at all.
Page Setup is hardly relevant to actually setting up a Page.
    Won't attach to Email.
Won't allow reading it anywhere but on the computer it was made.
Won't allow saving Pages nor Text documents using ANY other extensions.
    Saving is a contorted mouse-hunt; there's no "save-as".
For one typed page, a box told me there was HTML in the thing, and that it couldn't deal with it, even though there wasn't.
Pages document Won't save properly to a Pendrive for transport: it reads OK on the MAc, but on the PC, only 1st page visible, the rest unitelligible, pixelated, when moved to a PC.
I thought to transport the Pages document to the PC to copy/paste it into a Owrd Document--THAT failed, too.
Trying to print this Pages document turned into a nightmare: 1st page almost printed, ensuing pages resembled NOTHING I'd saved; a 10-page Pages document turned into many more pages of garbled mess.
I haven't had time to try other features; just making a pretty basic Pages document has been a wicked time-waster.
There doesn't seem to be ANY work-around.
I Thought: copy/paste the content of the Pages document, into a Text document: THAT FAILED.
Copy/Pasting one page at a time for this maneuver, also failed:
Pictures [.jpg] turn fuzzy and HUGE, and refuse adjustment in any way I can find.
Pictures refuse to adjust Easily, whether Pages or Text--couldn't make pictures in Text adjust at all.
Very UNimpressed with the picture editing on this Mac, to date.
Having terrible time doing ANYthing to adjust .jpg's in any document--forget putting photos in emails.
"Help" has been fairly useless; tutorials instruct to do things the programs won't do, or has no suggestion.
Pages is Useless, if it only allows making a basic document that's ONLY visible or minimally usable on the unit it got made on.
Feartures hark back to antique MS Word, like having to go up to Edit in order to copy/paste [as in this message], instead of being able to use Mouse to copy/paste directly in document, for instance.
This computer refuses to allow printing via ethernet or hardwire; Mini sees there's a printer, but can't print, thinks it's not on, or some unknown blockage.
Uninstalled printer, tried to reinstall, Mini refuses to allow reinstall; can't auto-find printer, refuses manual entry of information.
This Mac nearly choked/crashed after updated to Mavericks, in many ways.
MAYBE all this is really yet more Mavericks issues? ?
I paid dearly to get a computer that SHOULD have been Stably ready to roll; instead, it's caused about 3+ months worth of time-wasting.
This fails as a reliable, stable WORK unit.
Getting vetted, stable software should be easy, but it isn't.
ALL the problems APPEAR to be software issues.
This isn't just a Learning Curve, this is diabolical Sudoku gone horribly wrong!
Microsoft historically, repeatedly, rushed unstable, incomaptible software to users before de-bugging/de-glitching, or issues incomplete licenses to ancillary programs making htem disfunctional:  it's what I've hated MOST about PC's.
IMHO, the contract that conjoined Mac with Microsoft seems to have caused Macs to take on the worst of PC habits.
This MacMess is turning my brain to mush!  Where do I send a BILL to Apple for premature onset of Dementia / Stressed-Brain injuries + Time Lost, related to bad computer software?!
At this rate, I'll never finish a book for publication anywhere, and must fall back on hand-writing forms and reports.

Thanks Peter--it is what I thought [return to Mountain Lion].
    Chi
PS:  Contracts between Microsoft and Apple can be Googled; numerous things come up; could start here:
    http://www.roughlydrafted.com/RD/RDM.Tech.Q1.07/592FE887-5CA1-4F30-BD62-407362B5 33B9.html
It continued, with variations, later dates.
Using "conjoined" was perhaps, not exactly the correct term.  But that contract changed how Macs operated; dependability has, IMHO [and others], declined, while PC's have gained some bits of dependability.
Macs subsequently started using other processors, instead of Apple hardware--[not knowing how that might change things].
There's been more of Apple rushing software to users prematurely; always a badly played Microsoft trick, for instance.
It has some hints that MS and Apple are becoming more homogenous; that would be sad. It will take longer than this, to accomplish; but this kind of contracts between industry giants, often portend that sort of merge at later date, done in a step-wise manner.  These kinds of things can take years longer than this; meanwhile, users deal with bad products.

  • Notes cut off when printing, issue with margins

When I print a slide with notes, the notes complete cover the width of the page, flush left and right. My printer cuts the margins automatically (not a bleed), so those portions of the text in the notes gets cut off.
Any way to control the margins, left and right, when printing notes from Keynote?

Keynote print layout is a bit of a mess, and is well commented on by users, it prints differently than previous versions, eg  in handouts the slide image is much smaller than previously, in grid, the slides are off the printable area on the left.
We are hoping this is fixed in the round of scheduled updates.

  • Prints too small and doesn't do margins correctly

When printing any document, either form Microsoft Word or the internet, the font sizes come out too small and the margins do not match the settings. For example, I have my margins set to 1inch all the way around and yet the printer prints the paper margins at  **Top 1inch, left and right @ 1.3 inches, and the bottom at 2 inches. This is very annoying because it condenses everything and makes the font smaller.  I have already went into all of the settings both in Word and the Printer. Everything is set right, I am using letter paper 8.5 x 11, it is set up to match that paper, and I've double checked everything. And the paper is loaded in correctly. I seriously don't know what to do. I've even tried selecting "fit to paper" under the printer options and nothing has changed. I am really tired of this printer.
    Please help!

Welcome to the HP Community Forum.
Every printer I have ever had seems to revel in messing with us about margins - I had the 7520 printer for a year; in my personal opinion this printer is not better or worse in this regard than others.
I am not being sarcastic; far from it.  I am fully sympathetic.
There is always something going on -- IF it is the printer then it might be one of the following:
Printers have margin restrictions that can get in the way of the settings - and the results manifest themselves in odd ways depending on the document type (Word, PDF, html, some-other-type).
Software can have an effect -- Online Word, for example, may not be the same as Word-in-a-Box and a PDF file on your computer is never the same as a PDF file on the Internet.
If you think the printer is messing with you because the software is tweaked, then you can remove and then reinstall the printer software -- it does sometimes help IF the software is corrupted or out-of-date.
Install Full Feature Software – Printer
You can download files from the Internet and try printing them from your computer -- local files frequently print better from your computer than they do from the Internet.  This assumes you can trust the files to be downloaded onto your computer.  Scan any downloaded file with your best Security Software.
You can try setting Word document margins to Narrow.  This may work as long as you don't get into trouble with other printer margin restrictions of it if doesn't mess up your document.  Depends.
You can try using Print Preview to adjust the margins.
You can try -- when using Word - to adjust the Footer / Header to move the Page Numbers / Headers out of the way of whatever Printer margin restrictions exist.  For example, if the printer cannot print within .5 inches of the edge of the paper, make sure the page numbers have been moved away from the edge of the paper at least that far.
Our British friends know that A4 paper is not American "Letter" paper.  The difference can present challenges - Word offers an Options setting for this to keep the A4 bottom bits from chopping off.  This setting MIGHT do odd things to "Auto" select paper settings in some printers.
You can try using Printing Preferences / Properties to print borderless -- assuming your paper selection combination and printer supports this.
    For example:
Printing Preferences > Paper Quality > Advanced >
Under Printing Features >> Borderless Printing > Select from Drop Down Menu "Print Borderless"
Combine this with Print Preview / Margins
    The following might be helpful:
Manage Print Output with Print Preview

  • Margin not the same as in browser

I have a site created as this :
    <div id="container">
    <div id="header"></div>
    <div> id="content">my content goes here>
    <div id="leftcolumn">links and things go
    here</div>
    <div id="rightcolumn">links and things go
    here</div>
    <div id="footer">my footer links go here</div>
    </div>
All info goes in the rigth column. I have problems with the
margin. My textt ends directly to the right border of the
    rightcolumn.
Now I already tried the following to have more space between
the text and the right border
    1) made a class called p2 and put a padding of e.g. 50 px.
    or
    2) amended the padding in the rightcolumn container.
I used one of them, never together.
In DW the result is fine then as the text indeed goes further
away from the border. If I click F12 to have a preview in the
browser, the result is still ok.
I upload the page to my server and .............result has
    dissappeared.
An example of one of my pages :
    http://www.lotolux.com/actingcareer.html
You will notice that the text is almost against the right
border but in DW I do have 50 px. DW shows it also with a nice
space of 50 px in the preview.
Uploaded there is no result at all anymore.
How to solve this? I have IE 7 if that is maybe necessary to
    know.
    Many thanks for your advise/assistance.
    Kind regards
    Martine

  • Firefox has spontaneously decided not to show the task bar at the bottom of the screen, and some menu bars have been messed up. How can I fix this?

My Firefox has spontaneously (apparently) decided not to show the task bar at the bottom of the screen (the margin is there, but it is blank), and some menu bars have been messed up. Perhaps the most annoying aspect of these changes is the fact that I have to use alt-tab to move from a Firefox session to another session.
I can find no way to fix these problems. Can you help? Am I going to have to uninstall and re-install Firefox in order to get back to the default settings? If so, is there any way to preserve my bookmarks?

Make sure that you do not run Firefox in full screen mode (press F11 or Fn + F11 to toggle; Mac: command+Shift+F).<br />
If you are in full screen mode then hover the mouse to the top to make the Navigation Toolbar and Tab bar appear.<br />
You can click the Maximize button at the top right to leave full screen mode or right click empty space on a toolbar and use "Exit Full Screen Mode" or press F11.

  • Text Frame Auto-Size bug? Right margin changes?

Here is a rounded textbox with an inset of 4, vertical align center. I'm turning Auto-Size on, so the right edge grows as the text in the box gets longer.
Width only, adjust only the right edge (that alignment UI is messed up BTW if any Adobe UX peeps read this - I ought to be clicking the right hand edge to get what I want!!).
Now I add an "r" to the end.
Now, instead of the "r" I will add an "a". It's not much wider than the "r", and I'm not doing anything funky with the kerning. This font is also Helvetica Neue LT Std, so a premium tyepface.
Notice how much more padding on the right there is? This makes no sense. Now, if I keep typing...
... the padding appears to remain constant, or grow slightly.
My point here is that the inside padding is messed up. It should be 4px inset all around and that's the end of it. Something's off in your algorithm.
YMMV depending on typeface it appears. Notice that Arial (the second one) appears to work better than Times New Roman.

    Peter Spier wrote:
I think it's the size of the leading slug, which doesn't change in height, that makes a difference, not the height of the glyph itself.
Then I guess I don't understand how the margin is different for different letters.

  • Captivate 5 Messing up Text in Captivate 4 files

I am able to open my Captivate 4 files from CP 5 but all of my text styles, position, and indentations are messed up. Also Shift enter no longer works in Captivate 5. I do not want every line to have bullets when I use them.

    Hi there,
I have seen issues with Shift + Enter in Adobe Captivate 5 as well. The Adobe Captivate 5 text engine now uses Points rather than Pixels (the units of measure used in CP4) which might explain why your text styles etc are experiencing problems. That said I would still recommend that you report this issue to the Adobe Captivate 5 team using the web address I have included below.

    Best regards,

Having the same issues. The Point over Pixels would explain a lot except for the fact that it seems there is a very definite creep on the indentations. CP5 seems to get extra indents during conversion. Occasionally instead of picking one single indent level for each level it gets a creep of extra levels. It's simple enough to fix except on the occasion where you cant pull the indents back to the left margin properly. I have a feeling that it could be a mix of font sizes and styling and where the text that was pasted in was origionally sourced.
If Shift + Enter doesnt work put an extra bullet where you want the gap and then turn that bullet off. Feature enhancement would be to allow setting of paragraph spacing on top of the much welcomed line spacing.
