Margins cause a slight ripple in the background

I'm using a 15px margin the top of my header to account for people using browser toolbars and give it a little "breathing room". I noticed that the margin itself causes a slight ripple or "duplication effect" on the background. Is this normal? Granted, I'm also just using the "preview" feature (F12). I'm using Chromium and CS6 if that makes a difference.

  • Dodge Tool - Whitening the Background

    I'm using Photoshop Elements 10 -dodge tool to whiten the background of my product pictures. I highlight the background all white, and upload the pic to my website. The next day some spots in the background goes back to gray. Why is this and how can I avoid it?  Thanks.
    Here is a sample picture with the same problem: http://chakarr-jewelry.com/silver-luxe/tree-of-life-quartz-earrings

    As a preliminary step for this picture, go to Enhance menu>Adjust lighting>Brightness/contrast, and boost the contrast slightly.
    Duplicate the background layer, shut off the visibilityof the background layer by clicking on the eye icon in the layers palette, work on background copy layer
    Access the Magic wand tool from the toolbox, and on the tool's option bar, set the tolerance to 20 (you may have to experiment with this number), check "Contiguous". Click on an area of the background, and hit delete on the keyboard. You will see a checkerboard pattern, denoting transparency. Click on other areas to delete the background. When I finished there remained a small background area in the 6 o'clock position, and I got rid of it with the Eraser tool.
    Place a blank layer between the background and the background copy layers, and fill this with white (Edit>fill layer>Contents:white)
    You should have 3 layers: Background, the white layer, layer with jewelry at top)

  • Downloading podcasts in the background causes iTunes to become unresponsive

    This problem with iTunes downloading podcasts in the background is causing me fits in my well-behaved, rock-solid iMac environment.
    Inevitably, while iTunes is automatically downloading one of my subscribed podcasts, iTunes will become unresponsive and freeze. This requires me to Force Quit iTunes, causing file system errors that need to be repaired with Disk Utility. The file system errors usually consist of these:
    "Missing thread record"
    "Incorrect number of thread records"
    "Invalid volume file count"
    "Missing directory record ID"
    Luckily, Disk Utility can recover the damage without me losing any data. But it chaffs me to no end that I have to shut down my iMac, reboot with my SL DVD, dig up my wireless Mighty Mouse (since the SL DVD doesn't load drivers for my Magic Trackpad), repair my boot disk, reboot, then endure several minutes of "Checking the iTunes library" when I start up iTunes again. Not including the significant time it takes for me to re-establish my working environment.
    The reason why I know it's a podcast that's causing the problem is that as soon as iTunes starts up, the podcast resumes downloading. I've never had iTunes freeze on me while downloading a podcast while I had iTunes in focus. This problem only occurs when iTunes is downloading a podcast in the background. I've checked the log, and the only messages I'm getting is from Automator saying that some actions are not compatible with my current version of iTunes.
    This problem occurs with iTunes 10.0.1, but I've had it happen with iTunes 9.x . My iTunes library is on a Netgear ReadyNAS NV+, accessed by my iMac via 802.11n on my Airport Extreme.
    Is anyone else experiencing freezes or beachballs when downloading podcasts? I'm about ready to shut off auto-download and just do it manually (in fact, I'm surprised that I haven't done this already ).

    iTunes froze again while an podcast was being downloaded (in the Dock, the iTunes icon says "Force Quit"). I waited 10 minutes for iTunes to become responsive again, but it didn't. I tried Cmd-tab to the iTunes window, but it wouldn't come up. I was ready to Force Quit and repair my HD again, when I decided to try one more thing.
    I used Expose to show all the open windows, then picked the frozen iTunes window. Doing this showed the window (why Cmd-tab wouldn't, I don't know), where it listed the partially downloaded podcast in the activity bar. I then went to get my SL DVD. When I got back, iTunes was unfrozen and the podcast download had completed!
    I have no idea why the podcast wouldn't download while iTunes was hidden, and why Cmd-tab wouldn't restore the iTunes session to activity. But now I know that Expose can wake iTunes from the dead, preventing me from killing iTunes with the inevitable HD corruption.

  • Just bought the Mac Book Pro 17" - set up all OK but the applications are only showing on a small screen size, not full screen - the background is still visible as a margin - how do I take the view to full screen corner to corner so to speak.

    Just bought the Mac Book Pro for my photography  - set up and running last night, but the user screens ie Hot Mail, safari etc.. are only half size sat on the background - I have exhausted the help and calibration log...surel this must be simple to fix...any help out there..thanks..Paul.

    Have you just moved over from WIndows?
    This is standard on Macs. The ability to see more than one window at a time. Some apps - like iPhoto, Aperture etc - have a Full Screen mode. Check out the View menu.
    Drag the lower right hand corner to resize the window.

  • Why does IOS 7 cause all my apps to restart when I return to them from the background?

    Every time I switch applications, the one that was in the background goes through its hoops as if I was just starting it up.  I can't even look at a book without the APP restarting.  This started when I upgraded to IOS 7.

    Sounds like an update kink.  Restart your phone.  If that doesn't work then reset all settings.
    Settings>general>reset>reset all settings.
    When powering the phone on it will prompt you for your pass code it you have one.  You will need to input your wifi network and password in again as well as your Apple ID information.

    Hi
    The fact you are using a Mac is why both myself and JCellini assumed you where using a pre IE7 version.
    But the code you are using to test in IE will cause a problem with any 'virtual machine' such as crossover, because it cannot reference anything outside its own assigned section of the drive, and referencing the png in the way you are would be for it an invalid reference, it also would not work in any browser when you uploaded the site.
    Change - background-image:url(file:///Macintosh  HD/Users/myname/Documents/websites/test/Test/images/test_back.png);
    To - background-image:url(images/test_back.png);
    But if the region is not editable I would suggest you temporarily make it so, externalize your css to a css file, insert a link to the external css file in your head content, then lock the region once again. This way you will always be able to edit your css without worrying about 'locked regions'.

  • Satellite Pro L450D - Slight ripple effect on external monitor

    I am hoping someone can help me. Have just bought a new Satellite Pro L450D and also bought a separate lcd screen (Viewsonic) to use with the laptop.
    When using the lcd screen there is a slight ripple effect across the background when you look at the screen which is not nice on the eyes. Its not the screen that has a problem as I have tried it on other pcs/laptops and its fine. Have also tried another screen on the laptop and the same problem occurs. However, this problem does not occur of the laptop screen itself.
    Does anyone have any idea how I can solve this problem.
    Thank you
    Sam

    Hi
    It seems that the native resolution of this screen is 1920 x 1080.
    I use the same resolution on my external wide screen monitor.
    But I have connected the external screen to my notebook using the DVI cable.
    I tried a HDMI cable but the picture on the external screen was not clear usign1920 x 1080. I have no idea why.
    Anyway I have tried the external monitors DVI port and the picture was perfect!
    Seems your monitor supports only RGB analog port.
    In order to view real HD videos, picture you would need an HDMI or DVI port.
    Of course its possible to use an RGB analog port as well, but there are differences in picture quality.

  • Why is the background color not applied in one case?

    Hi,
    I'm using RH 7 and WebHelp.
    I apply a TableHeading style to the first row of my tables. The TableHeading style is supposed to fill the cells of the first row with a background color of blue, and the text is in white. It works fine except for one table. I think TableHeading style was not applied in the Word document when I imported this topic. I tried to apply the TableHeading style to the first row, and it says it is applied in the HTML. But, the background blue does not fill the cells.
    Here is what I am trying to achieve:
    Here is my problem table:
    I can see in the HTML that the background color is not present in the code. Here is the code for the example that is correct:
    <p class=TableHeading>Chapter</td>
    <td style="border-left: none; border-right: solid #000000 1.0px; border-top: solid #000000 1.0px; border-bottom: solid #000000 1.0px;
              width: 279.4pt; padding: 0in 5.4pt 0in 5.4pt; background-color: #003399;"
    bgcolor=#003399 width=279.4pt>
    <p class=TableHeading>Description</td></tr>
    <tr><td style="x-cell-content-align: top; border-left: solid #000000 1.0px; border-right: solid #000000 1.0px; border-top: none;

                       padding-bottom: 0px;" valign=top width=182.9pt>
    Here is the code for my problem table:
    <p class=TableHeading>Activity</td>
    <td style="border-left: none; border-right: solid #000000 1.0px; border-top: solid #000000 1.0px; border-bottom: solid #000000 1.0px;

    line-height: 120%;
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Julie
     I don't understand why the TableHeading style is not applying the background color for the one table. I'm guessing I could just add it to the code using the HTML editor. However, I wasn't sure if that was the best way to fix this problem or if I would create another problem.

    Hi Willam,
    Thanks for your answer, and I will go ahead and add the background color to the problem table.
    However, I am still puzzled as to why the background color is applied to the cells in the other tables and not the problem table. I'm not sure what I did to cause the problem - how I applied the TableHeading to the table cell in one case and not the other. Any ideas how I can avoid this problem?
    I will not use the Word documents going forward and will only make changes with the RH editor.
    Thanks again,
    Julie

  • How do i key out the background only in fcpx

    I can keyout the background, but my subject has a green button that turns gold/yellow. I need this button to stay green. How do I key out only the background while leaving my subject normal?

    In general, this happens when the alpha matte is slightly larger than the logo you want to key. That causes a bit of the background to show through in the key. The solution is to either shrink the alpha, or expand the logo.
    Sometimes the alpha matte is fringed with grey, and if you change the grey to black (or white, depending on which is not the matte color), it'll fix this. But all that is situation dependent and I'm not saying there should not be grey pixels in an alpha channel ever. If you're creating a glow behind a title or a logo, you'll have greyscale pixels fringing the objects and the RGB background color will determine the glow color. (But I'm wandering aimlessly off topic, so I'll shut now.)

It is a blank page just as if I had never had one. 1) Padding is only placed on the top and/or bottom of the block elements. The elements within these blocks have padding on their sides. This saves you from any "box model math". Keep in mind, if you add any side padding or border to the block itself, it will be added to the width you define to create the *total* width. You may also choose to remove the padding on the element in the block element and place a second block element within it with no width and the padding necessary for your design.
    2) No margin has been given to the columns since they are all floated. If you must add margin, avoid placing it on the side you're floating toward (for example: a right margin on a block set to float right). Many times, padding can be used instead. For blocks where this rule must be broken, you should add a "display:inline" declaration to the block element's rule to tame a bug where some versions of Internet Explorer double the margin.
    3) Since classes can be used multiple times in a document (and an element can also have multiple classes applied), the columns have been assigned class names instead of IDs. For example, two sidebar blocks could be stacked if necessary. These can very easily be changed to IDs if that's your preference, as long as you'll only be using them once per document.
    4) If you prefer your nav on the left instead of the right, simply float these columns the opposite direction (all left instead of all right) and they'll render in reverse order. There's no need to move the blocks around in the HTML source.
