Margins for the forum threads

Does anyone else here think that the left margin for the threads (the one which contains the username and information) is abnormally large?  I have a lot of unused space on the screen that makes the whole page harder to read.  Is it possible to fix that with the new software?

Because I am following a link from a topic to which I am subscribed. If 8-10 other forums I participate in can, many of which at not technology related whatsoever, then I 'm sure Apple can figure it out.
    Follow the logic here...
    1. On my Mac I receive an email notifying me of a response to a topic to which I am subscribed in Apple Discussions.
    2. I click the link in the email in MAIL.app, this discussion for example 'To view or respond to this message, visit <http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=7019288#7019288> '
    3. This launches SAFARI and opens the thread in APPLE's discussion forum website.
    4. I want to reply to the discussion.
    5. I click 'Login'.
    6. I am taken to the login page.
    7. I login.
    8. I am redirected to the main Apple Discussion page, http://discussions.apple.com/index.jspa NOT the page I was viewing prior to logging in.
To get back to that page AND be logged in I can either...
Switch back to mail.app and re-click the discussion topic link
    OR
Hit the BACK button twice in Safari then hit RELOAD to refresh and get the Apple Discussions site to realize I am now logged in.
There are two simple solutions that would also result in less work for Apple's servers, not requiring them to needlessly reload multiple pages.
    1. Redirect me back to the forum thread I was viewing after I login.
    2. Provide a login WITHIN the page am viewing.
As I said I probably subscribe to 8-10 forums, none of which have built the hardware (Mac Pro) or software (Mac OS 10.5.2, Mail.app and Safari) yet they ALL are able to do both or the above.
Somehow Apple is not able to do either even though they built the hardware AND the software.

I am writing a book and need to have the margins alternating left and right pages, so that there is sufficient margin for the binding. I have tried different inside and outside margins, the same inside and outside margins, facing pages, changing the master, and I cannot get the margins to alternate at print time. The larger margin is always on the left. Can anyone please help me on this, as I have spent hours and lots of ink.

Set up as facing pages with a larger inside margin.

  • New Additions for the forum please

The Nokia forum, of course, is a great place for any mobile user alike. It is a knowledge base. But I feel that this forum needs a few more additions. They are...
    1. A section to discuss operator related stuff
    2. A section for making, exchanging and about themes (Just like applications, images etc. )
    3. Possibility to add polls (it'll be fun, but Nokia can also collect information for their future products etc. ).

You can tell these things in Support Discussions Section. I guess mod will transfer this useful thread over there.

    Themes-yeah, I admit it.

  • I keep crashing with Adobe Bridge. The data for the crashed thread has this line in it: CFRUNLOOP_IS_CALLING_OUT_TO_AN_OBSERVER_CALLBACK_FUNCTION

    CFRUNLOOP_IS_CALLING_OUT_TO_AN_OBSERVER_CALLBACK_FUNCTION
That's in the crashed thread text. Does anyone know what this is about? I actuallly get this same error on three of the four Mac in my staff. It happens consistently when we use Adobe Bridge to browse to a particular folder on my external hard drive. I've copied the contents of that folder to my desktop and I get the same crash.
    Thanks,
    Peter

Yes, I've been in touch with Adobe for the past two weeks. They only take it so far, then they just ignore me. The Bridge program is not a separate piece of software. It gets loaded when you install either Adobe InDesign or Adobe Illustrator.
    Thanks.

  • Does the search query for the forums work at all?

I at the forum through the Adobe Help application.  When I do specific searches of the Illustrator forum, even picking search terms that appear in the opening list of most recent discussions, I get NO search results back.
I've expanded the timeframe, and broadened to forums and discussions - nothing back.
It this some glitch by coming to this from a Mac?  Very very puzzled.

  • Suggesting a Rating-factor or Indifference-factor for the Forum Posters

    Hi,
This is actually not a question, but a suggestion on presenting forum users' behavior indicators.
I like the new point system that OTN introduced that allows the questioner to rate the answers based on how it solved his/her problem.
However, in some forums, the forum users show exceeded indifference and apathy for rating answers. Often they do not rate a correct answer using the rating method; and sometimes even after acknowledging informally that the question has been answered. I often come across posters who post a question and on seeing the reply they do not answer or even acknowledge any help they receive even informally until they get stuck in the next steps. If it just goes for once in a while, then it's ok. However, some forums show a greater prevalence of such trends and some users show a habitual indifference. I don't know if you have noticed it too.
So, I was wondering what if a rating-factor for the questioners (or indifference-factor, or courtesy-factor) is introduced that can reflect the %age of answers a questioner rates as correct, or helpful. Similarly, their tendency to mark a question as answered when it is answered may also reflect in a similar factor.
    what do you think?
    AMN

I understand what you're saying, but to me, this is like saying that we want to rate the questioners so if they don't award points we can avoid answering them.
The only questioners I tend to avoid answering are the ones who are blatently rude or obnoxious. Just because they haven't awarded points for getting answers to their questions is not really an overriding factor, in my book anyway. I come here to learn stuff myself and to assist where I can, regardless of whether people give me points for it or not. I've never once had to ask for any of the points I've been awarded, I've just been given them, yet if I had received points for all the useful answers I'd given I'd probably have twice the amount... and so would a lot of other members here. If I'd received no points, I would still answer questions cos, to me, it's not about feeding my ego by saying "look at me I've got loads of points", it's about me assisting and learning from other people's issues and the other expert answers given.
On a more practical/technical level I think you'll find that the forum is limited by what the Jive software is capable of, so whilst it came with a question answered/points system as part of the package, I think awarding points against members for other reasons is probably not part of it's capabilities.
    ;)

  • Message only for the Forum Administrator - others kindly ignore

Other Viewers, please excuse me, I am not sure where else to post this question.
    Dear Administrator/Moderator,
I am posting queries mainly in SQL and PL/SQL category.
In the Forum Search Page, when I search against my UserID '573641' and
All date range, All categories and Results per page as 15, I am not getting
the expected result, like I could not see the messages posted today recently.
I have posted overall more than 70 messages, where as it is just showing only the below numbers,
    SQL and PL/SQL (31)
    Database - General (4)
    Heterogeneous Connectivity (1)
    Warehouse Builder (3)
Due to this I could not see the messages I posted recently or all the messages, please help, thank you.
When I try to view the below URL,
    http://forums.oracle.com/forums/search.jspa?threadID=&q=&objID=c84&dateRange=last90days&userID=573641&numResults=15
It says '0' messages, which is not correct.

  • Big thumbs up for the forum moderation team and of...

Can I just say if I hadn't of found this forum I feel that I would just be going round in circles all the time wasting BT's money on callout charges etc.
The team on this site are phenomenal and deserve recognition in every aspect. They are very polite , quick to act and listen to what you have to say and I welcome that as a customer.
Also thanks to the mods and Kerry we have had the fup raised higher for unlimited users by three times the amount it was before and option 2 of the BB package raised by double this just shows that they listen and act and for that I am very grateful.
Cheers guys your hard work doesn't go unnoticed big thumbs up from me.

I too would like to say a big thanks to the mod team - and especially Patrick Boyle, for helping resolve an issue for me. Well done, it is nice to see those green "solved" baloons popping up too.
