Mark / Delete prior feature

If anyone's used a Blackberry, there seems to be a glaring omission in the iPhone's email app: the ability to simply mark all messages from a certain date backward as having been already read, or to just delete them. Having 200+ emails just freshly downloaded, clicking every-single-email-over-and-over-wearing-out-my-thumb to delete them is nonsense! Is there a better way? There's no shift-click sort of function to almost accomplish the same thing. Is there a tool/app I can download to better manage my iPhone email?

Sorry, just had to chime in. I agree that your suggestion would be useful, maybe in 2.0x we'll get it. Far from perfect, by still far superior to that thing you mentioned that business users have been forced to live with all these years. Bye bye RIM....

  • Disabling 'Delete Prior' function

Hi -- I'm curious if there's a way to disable the 'Delete Prior' function.  It is physically very close to the 'Mark Prior Read' 'button' which I use frequently and I am afraid of deleting all of my prior emails again.  It happened once by accident and my emails were instantly permanently deleted from both my Q10 and Outlook on my laptop.  Very frustrating.
When deleting a single email, an option appears asking if I want to delete the email from the Hub or from the Hub and Server but the 'Delete Prior' function only warns me of deleting the messages and doesn't provide the Hub / Server option.
Thank you in advance for any insights provided.

That's a core feature built right in to the OS therefore there's no getting around it.
    Cheers.

  • Delete prior and Mypin does not work in text messages

So as the subject line states delete prior and typing mypin to generate....wait for it...... my pin, both do not work in the text messaging platform.  Anyone else experience this and anyway to fix this?  My provider will swap my phone on monday but if there is a fix I wont need to make the trek.  Thanks

Autotext and delete prior is not working in SMS messages. These are known issues and will hopefully be fixed in a future OS update.

  • "Delete Prior" hell -- is there prevention?

For the second time, I hit "Delete Prior" by mistake, wiping two weeks of emails off my BB.  Why this command is even in the menu escapes me, since anyone who wants to delete ALL of their email can easily do so by scrolling down the inbox while pressing a shift key.  I do have the emails on other servers (not Blackberry Exchange), so they aren't lost, but I can't carry them with me either.
Assorted easy tricks, like marking recent messages as "Unread" on their incoming servers, hasn't worked, and I don't want to take the better part of a day opening and forwarding them.
As there's no remedy for the problem, here's the real question--is there any way either to get that command off the menu (ideal) or rename it so it begins with a "Z" or something that I won't hit when using the "D" shortcut to find "Delete" on the menu?  Those who want this command for some reason (note to RIM:  You can't make this mistake on an iPhone) can keep it, and most of us for whom it's one slip of the trackball from disaster won't have to worry.
    Thanks,
    Tim Brennan

    Just so I understand correctly...
After (accidentally) selecting Delete Prior, you confirm it by clicking "Delete"?
The inbox shows messages and date headings.
If you highlight a single message, the "Delete" option will appear in the menu
If you highlight a date header, the "Delete Prior" option will appear in the menu
Since "Delete Prior" only appears when you highlight a date header, I would imagine this problem wouldn't occur very often.
In addition to being prompted to confirm that you want to delete local messages, you can be prompted before messages are deleted on the server...
Press the menu key > Options > Email Reconciliation. Change "Delete On" from "Mailbox & Handheld" to "Prompt".

  • Delete Prior Emails

When I delete prior emails, I am UNABLE to get rid of an old conversation in Messenger.
Does anyone know another way for me to delete this old messenger listing from my email?
    Thanks

What is your OS version? On 10.2.1.1925 and higher version there's option to delete on handheld only or delete on handheld and server. On 10.2.1.xx versions, If you delete single email, it will remain in the server as the setting delete on handheld only but if you delete multiple emails, it will delete emails in the server too. All I know from this forum is there's a bug in recent OS related with this email deletion and hopefully it will be fixed in next OS update.

  • [DATA LOSS] I closed the Tab Groups and all my tabs dissapeared. How can I recover the tabs in Firefox 26? Would you please just delete this feature?

Thank-you in advance for reading all of this.
A slip of the mouse in trying to return to the left-most tab caused the tab groups feature to take over the window. I completely failed to comprehend what I was looking at and closed the thing by clicking the x because I damn sure didn't want what I was looking at. Undo close group? Of course not, I didn't want a group in the first place. Hey! My tabs are completely gone now! So in just a few steps all of which seemed innocent, I have lost all but ten of the tabs that were open, and those were only the most recent ten (and actually older tabs would have been more valueable than newer so insult on top of injury).
I don't think increasing the number of undoable tab closures is the answer. I think getting rid of the tab groups feature all together is the best way to go. I seem to have lost all the tabs I had open, irretrievably, and some of them had been open for WEEKS so they can't be reopened from history.
The tab groups feature is a data loss bug. Please remove it from the UX completely. If you have to figure out a way to grandfather people who actually have a tab group, fine but don't further vex me with it, please.
The reason this catastrophe has occurred is that your feature, was so discoverable that I activated it by mistake, and the UI after that had to be learned on the spot, yet was too complicated to learn. You really should withdraw it until you can figure out how to keep the UI for it from causing data loss such as I have experienced this morning.
Also, there may be other questions on this feature which are from a certain point of view the same as this one. It's hard for me to tell for sure. None of them had a true resolution so that's why I posted this one, also I'm seeking a specific fix, removal of the offending feature.
Why remove the feature? Because if I allow in my discussion the possibility of retaining it, it will stick around in its present and dangerous form until your team is done bikeshedding the new form it should take. Instead I want you to delete the feature and then require its champion to convince you that a new incarnation won't cause data loss before you allow it back in.
Fellow users, if you know of a way to recover all 50 lost tabs from an "undo close tab group incident", I would be grateful for that advice, but I would still believe the feature should be deleted. Some of the tabs have been retained for months so digging them out of the history is not practical.

I am not 100% certain but I am fairly sure development of this tab feature has ceased and it is likely to be deprecated. I am even less sure what the replacement will be.

I have not tried this and am not even using Windows at present but the tabs groups are stored as entries in the sessionstore.js files. Firefox has such a file plus sometimes numbered copies and a backup copy. Firefox will have re-writen these files but I suppose there is a posibility the Windows OS may have kept copies.

    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/Sessionstore.js Note the files are kept within the Firefox Profile
** Firefox Button -> Help -> Troubleshooting [open profile] (or some thing similar) is one method of locating the profile.
Find and backup any current sessionstore.js file. Consider also bookmark or otherwise recording anything you have open. Now find any previous versions and try putting them in Firefox's profile before restarting it.

  • Deleting prior messages

Just got a new BB Curve 9300 yesterday and so far I've had several issues. I was a BB user for years, had to go try an android for a year, but now I'm back.
First I had probelms going thru the set up email wizard....taked to my carrier and went all the way up to RIM and they solved the problem (to a degree) by having me set up email online from my laptop. But today when I tried to add another email account, I got the same error message saying there was an error....so I moved on (for now)
Second problem.....in my message inbox I have FB messages. Why won't it let me delete them?? When I hit a date and select 'delete prior', it will delete everything but those. I have even logged on FB and deleted from there and it still doesn't work.
Third problem....this is a 3G phone, yet since I have had it, the 3G shows up occasionally, but mostly it just says 'EDGE'.
Lastly....this phone has the new 6.0 operating system...not so sure I like all of the different screens.
I was so excited to get back to my Blackberry, but am sadly disappointed.

When you sync your phone with your computer using iTunes, it creates a backup file that saves all that info.  Or you can create an iCloud account to backup your info on iCloud.

Maybe there is something wrong with the file where rules are stored. You may try re-creating it and setting up the rule again:
    1. Quit Mail.
    2. In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Mail/.
    3. Locate MessageRules.plist and move it to the Desktop. If there is a file called MessageRules.plist.backup, move it to the Desktop too. You may also see MessageSorting.plist files there; this is where Mail 1.x stored the rules, and they are no longer used by Mail 2.x, so just move them to the Trash if you see them.
    4. Open Mail. As a result of removing the rules file, the junk filter will be disabled now. You may want to either tell Mail to go offline immediately after opening it, or shut down the Internet connection before opening Mail, to prevent it from downloading anything until the junk mail filter has been enabled again.
    5. Go to Mail > Preferences > Junk Mail, enable junk filtering, and configure it however you wish.
    6. Go online again if you went offline in step 4.
If the problem persists after doing this, then you know the rules file itself has no bearing on it, and you may move the files on the Desktop back to the ~/Library/Mail/ folder, overwriting any files Mail may have created anew there (quit Mail first).
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user's home folder.

  • Ver 4.0 Missing Prior Features

After upgrading to Firefox 4.0, seem to be missing some prior features; would like to get them back.
    1.- The "Re-Load" 3/4-circle is gone
2.- The "Stop Sign" is gone
3.- The down-arrow to go back more than one page is gone
4.- The automatic addition .COM in the location field is gone
    5.- If I mis-type a URL/location, then I get a Yahoo search instead of a 'not found', then must RE-enter the URL

We have changed up the printing for diagrams in the modeler for the production release - specifically around PDFs.
For a more conclusive response, I recommend posting your issue on the Data Modeler forum.

  • Delete prior years in iCal

I don't need to clutter my hard drive with calendar entries prior to 2006. How do I delete all entries for 2005?

Did you not get a satisfactory answer in this "Delete Prior Years" thread?

  • Nano 6th syncs fine but when I re-sync it deletes prior content. What am I doing wrong?

Ipod nano 6th wont hold songs already synced, when I add songs it deletes prior music but keeps the new songs,do I need to save it?I dont know.

sometimes when you have sync only checked songs selected alot of people will only check the music they want to add but really sync only checked songs works differently
if the song has a check it ends up on the ipod
the ipod is suppose to erase the songs and replace them with what you have checked

  • ICal (Calendar.app) - Is My Current-Time Marker Missing? Feature Dropped?

    Hello iCalers,
I recently made the switch to Mountain Lion from Snow Leopard. I was quite a fan of iCal in Snow Leopard—it was one of the reasons I downgraded to Snow Leopard from Lion—but since I have a newer computer that doesn't allow Snow Leopard, and I've got Mountain Lion set up pretty well for me, I'm sticking with Mountain Lion.
My standard view for things in iCal is "Weekly." In Mountain Lion's incantation, I don't see the red marker that scrolls downwards, the one that corresponded to the current time. I'm wondering: was this feature dropped in Lion/Mountain Lion, or is mine buggy, or is it an out-of-the-way preference somewhere? I peeked in some .plists and com.apple.iCal files—I laugh that Apple still calls it "iCal" at the programming end—but I couldn't see any obvious mention of that time-of-day marker.
    Any ideas?
I liked it a lot—enough to open a discussion about it!

    Thanks John M,
It  indeed worked when I made a new user account, so I trashed and deleted my <user>/Library/Calendars folder, as well as <user>/Library/Preferences/com.apple.ical.plist—(backing them up elsewhere beforehand, in case something terrible happened), then re-set-it-up. (Holy cow it's easy to work with iCal after iCloud—literally seconds when it used to be at least a couple of minutes using Google Apps caldav or making an ical backup file and restoring calendars + fixing buggy events). It seems to be all good now.
A few times in my OS X history I've had issues come up where something is busted and I make a new user account that demonstrates that it's not busted universally. I hadn't even thought of doing that this time. Thanks for the idea!
May your days be merry and bright!
