Folks,
My Tips and Tricks Cookbook has FINALLY been officially posted on the Oracle web site. It is located at:

In general, I finally found out how to find technical content about ALL the former Hyperion BI tools on the Oracle Technology Network. It is a bit convoluted and definately NOT intuitive, so PLEASE DESSEMINATE THE FOLLOWING AS WIDELY AS YOU CAN:
1) Go to http://otn.oracle.com (Do NOT go to www.oracle.com or you will never find anything.)
2) On the left-side nav links, click on the "Middleware" link under "Products". (Do NOT click on the "BI & Data Warehousing" link, or once again, you will find nothing you are looking for.)
3) On the Fusion Middleware graphic that appears in the middle, click on the "Business Intelligence" object.
4) In the center list of BI products, click on the "Oracle BI Suite Enterprise Edition Plus" link under "Business Intelligence Foundation".
5) You will now see a list of ALL the products contained in OBI EE Plus, including all the Hyperion components. Click on the component of choice to view its specific product page.
For example, if you click on the "Hyperion Interactive Reporting" link, you will view the IR product page. My Tips and Tricks Cookbook and all its related sample files and advanced tips can be viewed by clicking on the "Tips and Tricks Cookbook" link under "Learn More" subject area on the right side of the screen.
You can also view information about Essbase by clicking the "Hyperion Essbase" link under the "Related Topics" subject area.

Quick review of my wife's new Black MacBook

OK - so SWMBO chose Black last night at the Apple Store. Store upgraded the stock 512MB (2x 256MB sticks) with 2x 512MB sticks and ran memory test to ensure all was AOK - it was.
This MacBook replaced her 14" iBook G3 700MHz with 30gig HD, DVD-ROM/CD-RW and 640MB memory running Mac OS X 10.4.6 with all latest Apple updates.
First impressions during use and transferring wife's files from her old iBook.
1. Startup was flawless and connected FW400 cable between MacBook and iBook and restarted iBook in Target mode and selected to have all of wife's home files transferred along with other network settings etc. Transfer completed without problems.
2. As soon as startup completed I Restarted (re-booted) and selected Software update. Geeeesh - there was a lot of stuff that Apple hadn't installed on this stock machine. Downloaded and installed all this stuff without problems.
3. Now I ran Monolingual to remove all languages except English. This freed up some 3.2 GB of HD space. This took around 30 mins and placed a great deal of stress on the CPUs and HD. CPU activity was well above 80% (using Top.app) and Monolingual chewed up lots of physical RAM and started eventually to cause pageouts on the 1gig of physical RAM. The top left quadrant of the MacBook got very hot. The lower surface of the quadrant was extremely hot and would be bothersome had it been on my lap. The cooling fan could be heard during most of the time Monolingual was running. I believe the Monolingual also removed a large number of language files - as many as 287,000 as before running it I recall seeing 437,000 files and now only have 154,000 files (can't be absolutely sure about these numbers as I did not log them at the time). However, if this is true then not only do you get some 3.2 gig of HD space back a huge reduction in file count which helps with SpotLight indexing and anything else that has to scan the file system structure.
4. Ran SuperDuper to backup the HD to and external FW400 LaCie 60gig pocket HD. Took about 30 mins. The first run at this caused SuperDuper to complain it could correct the internal HD's permissions. So I quit SuperDuper and launched Disk Utility and ran Repair permissions. This completed with errors and then launched SuperDuper a second time and it did not have problems with the HD permissions. I observed that SuperDuper (not a universal binary) ran far quicker on the MacBook than it did on the iBook - I would say around 2x faster. After SuperDuper cloned the MacBook's HD I then verified I could boot up from the external FW400 LaCie drive. This worked flawlessly.
5. QT Pro didn't come across from wife's iBook so had to reset the QuickTime Pro registration key.
6. The MacBook screen real estate is less than the 14" iBook. It really is the height of the MacBook's screen that causes this. The MacBook's screen is same width as the iBook but is about 1.5" less in height. Overall the MacBook feels, looks and is smaller than the 14" iBook. The MacBook's screen display is clearer and brighter than the iBook's. The MacBook's screen display is very vibrant and more colorful than the iBook for sure.
7. Opening the MacBook screen/lid takes a bit of getting used to compared to the method needed for the iBook.
8. Keys are flush with the MacBook's outer surface which means they do not contact the screen when screen closed. The iBook's keys aren't and stick up some and can over time mark the screen with finger tip grease etc.
9. MacBook's trackpad is larger than the iBook's and very welcomed - as is the two-finger scrolling feature.
10. Adding a pic for accounts was fun as the iSight feature is by default used to capture a mug shot of yourself if you so desire.
11. Performance of MacBook compared to iBook 14" 700MHz is not very noticeable IMO when doing Safari and Mail type activities. Things do happen with more snappyness though. Yes - SuperDuper ran 2x faster but normal use of MacBook so far doesn't tell me it's 2x2000MHz/700MHz or some 5.7x faster wrt CPU clock rates. I'm sure the MacBook is faster at doing CPU intensive things but have not done any scientific performance testing to post results. I get the feeling that this MacBook is maybe 2x to 3x faster and more snappier than the iBook. The Disk Inventory X utility screams on this MacBook.
12. MacBook is lighter, thinner and more easily handled than the 14" iBook. It will also fit into the iBook 14" Bootq bag I bought for wife last Christmas.
13. My wife likes the MacBook very much after a morning of use. She maintains the Black MacBook is cool looking and more professional looking than the White and pleased she chose the Black.
14. We are both very pleased with the Black MacBook purchase at this time.
The 14" iBook is now to be handed down to daughter #1 as a birthday+Xmas present.

Update to my item 4 as there were some typo errors in it (sorry about that).

Hard drive can't be seen all of a sudden?

I am still on a G5 Dual 2gig and I have a Maxtor One Touch which is a terabyte drive. All of a sudden it won't come up on the desktop. But when I check About this mac I see it listed. At first I thought it was the power supply but ruled that out. Then I tried the firewire connection but that doesn't seem to be the problem as I have another external drive running through the firewire connection on the back. So I bought a usb cable and it's the same as firewire in that you can see it in About this mac but cannot get it to come up on the desktop. I have also tried to get it to show up in Disk Utility but no can do. It lights up as if nothing is wrong and I can feel what I believe is the disk moving in it but no show. I also unplugged it for an evening completely. Normally I would just get another drive but got lots of stuff on there I need. And yes I did back things up but it's been awhile and I've done a lot of changes since then so anybody got ideas or have a work around? Thank you ahead of your answers. I appreciate the knowledge..... Just in case you need it I'm still at 10.5.8

And I'm assuming that the Mount icon didn't help in Disk Utility after highlighting it?
Can DU Verify it?
Could the Rights have been changed or Hidden bit set?

ATI 4670 on GX623 underperforming?

Ever since getting this computer I noticed that the graphics performance was a bit lower than expected. In terms of 3Dmark scores, I have consistenly been getting results about 10-15% worse than in the reviews. So after experiencing choppy framerates in a 4vs4 game of Starcraft II, I decided to investigate.
What I got was this.
The clock rates for both the memory and core are locked at ~600MHz and ~450MHz, whereas they're supposed to be 800MHz and 675MHz. Looks to me like something's throttling the graphics card. Any ideas what might be the cause?
I'm running catalyst 10.4 on Windows 7 64bit.
edit: if somebody knows why the image is being resized, please let me know so I can fix it...

Powerplay is set to max performance.
It seems the problem took care of itself when I rebooted. The clocks are now what they're supposed to be. Previously, after spending too much time searching the Web for a solution, I came across several people reporting similar problems with their Mobility Radeon 4670s on Dell laptops.
Maybe it's the BIOS or the driver or a glitch that happens after standby/hibernate. Either way, it's taken care of and thanks for the suggestion.

FTPing into XMLType view (ORA-21700)

Hi all,
I have some relational data, which I want to display as XML. To get there I successfully created and registered a XML schema and created a XMLType view. So far so good ... I see all data as XML in this view.
Now I'd like to FTP new XML documents, which are based on this XML schema, into previously created folders. So I wrote an INSTEAD OF trigger to insert the data in my relational tables. When I do a ftp put ..., all I get is ORA-21700 object does not exist or is marked for delete.
Any tips or hints to resolve this problem ?
Any help is appreciated...

Search app content *air for ios/android*

is there any way to create a search bar so that user can be able to search contents in an app .

Can I do a group delete of email

Is there a way to mark email all at one time to delete? Right now all I can find is where I have to mark each individual email instead of having a "mark all" key. Any tips?

One at a time is the only way to do it.

External Hard Drive shows up as a CD?

Oboy! Just when I thought everything was cool! Just purchased a (1.0TB Hitachi Deskstar 7K1000.C 'Jupiter' 7200RPM SATA I/II HD with 32MB Cache. Energy Efficient Performance Serial ATA 3.5" Hard Drive) and installed in a Mercury Elite-AL Pro enclosure and formatted it with 3 partitions.
I duplicated my hard drives for off premise back up (by dropping HD icons in window). Everything was working well and *now only one partition shows up*.
I ran Disk Warrior and Utilities-as all the partitions show up-and rebuilt the directories. Going to: Finder>Prefs>Show these items on desk top- I found that unclicking the "CD" box makes the External HD's icon disappear.
I think my computer recognizes this sata drive as a "CD". Can anyone tell me how to get the other 2 partitions back on my desk top?

But the 3rd partition is still invisible. All 3 partitions show up in Utilities but the 3rd is not "Available".

Internal drives locked - "chflags: command not found"

My Intel MacPro has always had occasional issues with ownership and permissions ever since migrating my home folder from a PowerPC. As this is no longer my primary machine, I unwisely decided to do some tidying up. I have drives in 3 bays and they are all partitioned. In moving some data from one partition to another I encountered "you do not have permission.." so called up the Get Info window, noticed the privileges were set to 'custom' and decided to set this straight. And for the other partitions.
So now every partition has a lock icon except the partition with the OS 10.5.8 on it
Get Info won't allow me to remove the lock or change the privileges
As of today, I now cannot boot from the 10.5.8 partition (no idea why this developed), so have booted from the OSX Install DVD
Running Disk Utility I can verify the 10.5.8 partition ok (all other partitions still are locked) but Verify Disk Permissions returns "Error: The underlying task reported failure on exit"
So I read a load of threads here and opened Terminal from the Install DVD and typed
chflags 0 /volumes/*
very carefully
but it says
chflags: command not found
There is insufficient space on the unlocked partition to run an Archive & Install of the OS, and it won't let me install onto any other partition beause they're locked. I was considering booting it in Target Disk Mode - perhaps BatChmod works?

BatChmod might work, but careful on the boot disk.
Open Terminal & paste this in, spaces are important...

then right after the last / of each line, carefully type the name of that external volume, & if it has spaces in it enclose the name in quote marks.

If the disk in question is your Mac OS X startup disk and your computer stops starting up at the blue screen, restart with the Command and S keys held down, and enter the following commands:
mount -uw /
chown root /
chmod 1775 /
exit

I think your original permissions problems were likely from already having an account setup on the new Mac before using MA, in that case the old 1st user on the PPC, (501), gets migrated to 502 on the new mac, & so on.

How can I sign my .sis for testing purposes?

Hi, I created a simple helloworld.sis application using the
Adobe Mobile Packager. Now I want to install it to my Nokia S60
phone, but I get the following error message: "certificaatfout"
(it's dutch, meaning certificate error ;-).
I tried Open Signed Online to sign my application

Hi Mark, thank you for the tip. In "Applications->App
Manager>Options>Settings>" I enabled all applications and
no online checks and now I can install my HelloWorld_signed.sis.
Unfortunately, when I try to run my application, my phone
asks:
"HelloWorld needs Adobe Flash Lite to Run. Continue?"
But when I click "yes", I get this message:
"Sorry. Adobe Flash Lite is not available for this device."
I'm using a Nokia E61i. In the Adobe Mobile Packager, this
device is not listed under "Distributabele Player Supported
Devices" so I guess I have to borrow a more up-to-date phone to see

Imported photos not opening

After importing a photo from from email and closing i-photo, when I reopen i-photo I can't open the photo - it shows as an exclamation mark in a triangle - any tips?

That happens when iPhoto loses the link to the actual file.
Are you running a Managed or a Referenced Library?
A Managed Library, is the default setting, and iPhoto copies files into the iPhoto Library when Importing. The files are then stored in the Library package
A Referenced Library is when iPhoto is NOT copying the files into the iPhoto Library when importing because you made a change at iPhoto -> Preferences -> Advanced. (You unchecked the option to copy files into the Library on import) The files are then stored where ever you put them and not in the Library package. In this scenario you are responsible for the File Management.

Second hard drive locked

ok im running 2 hard drives first one is the OS second one is for storage. I somehow changed the permissions and when i restarted it would boot cause it couldnt access the files so i fixed the first hard drive with a archive $ install, and backed everything up to my PC. But i'm still locked out of the second drive, if anyone has any suggestions of how to change or atleast get access to this drive please let me know.
