Mark Sent Mail Items as Read

A minor irritation I know, but is there a way using rules or scripts to have all sent messages automatically marked as read in Mail 3.0? I really only want to know how many unread incoming messages I have. I use Mail to collect for 2 IMAP mailboxes, so would want to apply any rule or script to sent messages for both of these, but not messages in the inboxes sent between the accounts.

This is the Tiger forum you will be able to contact people who have Mail 3.0 if you go to the Leopard forum.

  • Outlook 2010 sent mail items are being deleted and found in recovered items

My user has this issue with Sent Mail items not staying in the Sent items folder. Items are being sent to the sender. The mail messages are found in the recover items folder as if the deleted items folder was being emptied. This is not the case. No mail
rules have been set to move items to the deleted items folder. User does not have the option of clearing the deleted items folder upon exit of outlook. This does not occur on every message. This at times happens immediately after sending the message. The option
is selected in outlook to keep a copy of sent messages in the Sent Items folder. These are messages that are needed to be saved and have proof of them being sent to the end user.

    Hi,
Is this issue reproduceable on OWA?
Please make sure the user doesn't use the account on other devices, which may possibly cause this problem to occur.
In case the hidden rules in Outlook caused the problem ,you can also try to use MFCMAPI to check and delete hidden rules from outlook:

  • Not automatically marking e-mail messages as read in outlook 2010

Our office has a user with an assistant set as a delegate in Outlook
(Exchange 2010 environment). Currently, if the assistant views an email in the
user's Mailbox, it is set to "Read" status, which can lead to confusion as to
which items have or have not been read by the mailbox owner. Is there a
setting (both users have Outlook 2010) that will stop items viewed
by the assistant from being set to "Read" status?
http://www.office-outlook.com/out.../m/514421/ suggests a way, but that means the assistant has to mark her e-mails read manually(Ctrl + Enter)
Is there a way, it can be done so that if the assistant(delegate) just goes to her manager's mail, it will be unread as long as she does not mark them read manually(Ctrl + Enter).
But, for her mailbox if the focus is on a message for five seconds, it is marked as read.
So, can the option to mark items as read be disabled for manager's mailbox, but not for the assistant? Does Exchange 2010 allow this?

I can set a per folder reading pane in Outlook 2013. Its a little weird, you have to sort of toggle it off and then reenable it again. I assume its the same for 2010, but I could be wrong. I have not tested it with a delegated mailbox however, you may have
to do the same thinng and toggle it back and forth.
Might be worth asking in the Outlook Forum to see if its even possible

  • Sent Mail, Won't Read

When I'm online and try to access my sent emails this is the message that appeares where the sent email body should be:
The message from XXX <[email protected]> concerning XXX has not been downloaded from the server. You need to take this account online in order to download it.
The thing is, is I am already online. This issue has gradually developed. I used to be able to access my sent mail no problem. Then I started getting this message. At first I could resolve it by rebooting mac mail. When That no longer worked I would resolve it by rebooting the computer. Now nothing works. All other functions in mac mail seem to work fine. I currently have 61 messages in the sent file.
I recently ran fsck and it said everything seemed to be OK.
    I'm running a 1.8 gig single processor G5 with OS 10.3.9, and mail 1.3.11 (V622/624).
    Thank you,

Since the account's Sent mailbox is well over the recommended mailbox size limit for Panther Mail and remains 1.7 GB in size, the messages remain in the mailbox.
Quit the Mail.app first and using the Finder go to Home > Library > Mail > this POP account named folder (named by the user name and incoming mail server for the account) > Sent Messages.mbox.
Move the Sent Messages.mbox to the Desktop.
Launch Mail and a new Sent Messages.mbox will be created automatically by Mail within the account named folder when sending the next message with the account.
This will allow the Mail.app to function properly again and not risk losing any new messages sent with this account while trying to recover the existing messages in the old Sent Messages.mbox moved to the Desktop.
Send me an email and I'll forward you an mbox breaker script that splits such a mailbox into smaller sections. There is no guarantee with this script but it has worked well for others. If this doesn't work, the messages will be lost.

  • Leopard Mail doesn't auto-mark sent mail as sent

In Tiger's Mail, whenever I sent a message and the message got put into my Sent folder, it would automatically mark the message as read. This is what I want. I obviously know what the message says since I just wrote it.
However, since upgrading to Leopard's Mail, whenever a message gets sent and put into the Sent folder, it is no longer automatically marked as read. Why this change? Is this a bug?
And, more importantly, how do I fix it? Are rules applied to outgoing mail as well?

Same here, have posted in another thread:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1222041&tstart=45
I have verified with Runbox my IMAP provider that it is not their server at fault, they tested my account with Thunderbird and Outlook and this does not happen. It is Leopard seemingly.
I have sent feedback to Apple but zero response. This behaviour seems almost random.

  • Sent Mail Items on IMAP

    To Forum
i have set up my iPhone 5 with my various email accounts. among them i have set up one as per normal, a pop3 mail account, and another, as it gave me the option, as an IMAP.
the POP3 works as normal, and to download a sent item i send on my phone, i auto BCC myself on emails, so an email sent appears in my mail list, and then downloads to my MBP at night and has a rule that puts it in the sent items. Something ive done for years perfectly.
playing around with the IMAP email, i cant work out where my sent email goes. I dont have any rules or anything or auto BCC on it. But i send an email, the email arrives at its destination.... but i cannot see if there is a sent email. ive looked in the folders on my iphone and on my MBP. Is there a sent email that gets created when i send an email on IMAP. i assume there is? i cant see it though...

You send an email from your iphone but, even though it reached it's destination, you cannot find it in a sent folder on the iphone. This is most probably caused by a little quirk in the setting up of mail accounts on the iphone.
Here's what to do to fix it. Hopefully!
You've already set up you imap account(s) on the iphone. And it seems to work okay. You have collected mail in the inbox. You thought you'd finished but you haven't!.There is a second step and it will only work once you've set up the mailbox and have checked for emails.
So check for emails if you haven't done so already...
    Now go back to
Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars>select the email account e.g. [email protected]
You'll now see the IMAP Account screen for this account, tap the Account line then tap Advanced
Look at Mailbox behaviours for Drafts, There will be nothing written in between Drafts Mailbox and the right pointing chevron.
Select Drafts Mailbox. On next screen tap Drafts against 'on my iphone' or select the folder you want them to go to 'On the Server'.
    Go back to Mailbox behaviours
Select Sent Mailbox and repeat what you did for Drafts. Note if you select 'On My iPhone' your sent emails will end up in the little paper airplane icon folder on the iPhone. Better for you and what you want to do if you select the Sent folder on the server.
    Repeat for Deleted
Do NOT forget to press Done to apply the changes.
Mailbox Behaviours will now have something written before the right pointing chevron.
Your next question is going to be what has happened to the copies of the emails you sent before you did this. Sorry, as far as I know, no copies were kept! They are gone forever.
It's irritating but I hope it works for you.

  • IPhone 4S suddenly not saving 'Sent' mail items - help

When I send emails from my iPhone (on any account) it does not save the 'Sent' email.  However, when I send it from my desktop, the emails will appear in my sent folder.  I know recipients are getting the email - however there is now no trace of me having sent it.  If I reply to a message it will also not show the 'replied arrow' even if it sends and the person receives it.  I am finding this incredibly frusterating.  Everything worked perfectly until this past Friday - now all of my communication from the weekend and beyond is not saving.
I have reset my phone, deleted and reconfigured all of the mail accounts on my phone.  I can't think of what else to do.

Okay, now that I am looking back through my sent folder, it seems like ALL of the sent items are missing. They were there last week - I remember searching through them to find an email to resolve an issue.  I use my phone for mail for my work.  This is unacceptable.

  • Sent Mail Items

I can't see any of my sent items anymore. Keep getting the following message when on an email in the sent folder.
The message from Jason Getman <[email protected]> concerning “Fleet Wrap Contact” has not been downloaded from the server. You need to take this account online in order to download it.
Any idea what I can do?????

If you’re running Mac OS X 10.3 (Panther), as your profile indicates, you probably have the problem described here:
    Overstuffed mailbox is unexpectedly empty
Because of the differences between Mail 1.x and Mail 2.x, however, further discussing your problem here might confuse other users with similar problems using Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger), so please start a new topic in the Mail & Address Book - Mac OS X 10.3 & earlier forum, or just look for other threads discussing the same problem. This is actually a FAQ in that forum.

  • I have a new MacBook.  In mail, my sent mail only remains on my computer for 2 weeks.  Can I go somewhere to lengthen the time it remains in the file?

This is a 2014 MacBook Pro 15 inch Retina with OS 10.9.4.  I am unable to find out where to modify the length of time I can store "sent" mail.  I would like to change the setting from 2 weeks to "never remove".  I regularly find myself searching for previously sent email and am also constantly individually eliminating old sent mail.

Open Mail preferences and select Mailbox behaviors and check the box marked sent and choose NEVER.

  • Local iPhone sent mail disappeared

I have been keeping the draft, trash, and sent mail items generated by the iPhone on the iPhone. That is, I have not been storing them on the .Mac server. So I go to retrieve a message I sent a couple of days ago but find that there are only 25 messages in the Sent mailbox, and no "download 25 more" message at the end of the list. I had a thought and sent myself a test message from the iPhone, and the test appeared at the top of the Sent list and bumped the oldest message...into oblivion? I tried deleting the test to see if the old message would reappear to make an even 25 again, but no luck.
I moved the remaining 24 sent messages to the server and changed the setting so now everything is stored there, but a couple of months worth of sent items are...deleted? hiding on the iPhone? They are not on my Mac or in .Mac anywhere that I can find them. Any ideas? I had never heard of this 25 recent message limit in Sent on the iPhone. Apple phone support was not very supportive.
    Ry

the iPad Mail programme has never been able (not in my opinion is it ever likely) to create folders in Mail - it will replicate what exists on the Mail server, so one creates them there and the iPad and any other devices 'follow' it.
The sent folder has not disappeared on any of my devices so something appears to be in error.
How is the email account set up - POP3 or IMAP ?
Have you tried sending a mail from the iPad and seeing if the folder reappears ?

  • Define recipient from Rule in sent mail

    Hi
Could any one help me, how to mention the list of recipients determined via rule resolution in sent mail.
I read in a SAP book and it suggest to define one background task to get the list of recipient from FM: RH_GET_ACTORS based upon custom rule(AC90000001). Everything is working fine. But am facing problem to bind the value from FM to workflow container. The reason is the return value of FM is in “SWHACTOR“ structure but sent mail accept experssion in AAGENT BOR.
I really appreciate your help by rewarding points
    Thanks
    Kamal Babu

    Hai,
I think what AK said is correct. I did a similar thing once. What I did was, I created a rule which used a custom FM. In FM, Pernr was Import parameter (TYPE  PSKEY-PERNR) and UsrID was Export parameter (TYPE  PA0105-USRID). As a rule, I had AC_CONTAINER STRUCTURE  SWCONT and ACTOR_TAB STRUCTURE  SWHACTOR.
Then, I used a subroutine to get the USRID from the Pernr using table PA0105. Something like:
           PERFORM         get_approvers
                  USING        gv_level
                  CHANGING lv_found
After that, I appended the Actor_Tab and Object ID like:
        actor_tab-otype    =    'US'.
        actor_tab-objid    =    gv_userid.
        APPEND actor_tab.
Think, this is what you were speaking about.

  • HT4863 sent mail has disappeared

I have not changed my settings and my icloud email is set to never delete sent messages but now it is only storing them for 24 hours - has anyone got a solution?

My wife had a similar problem on her iMac G5. She lost all of her mail. The fix that I used was to look in HD/Library/mail folder and compare that to the HD/USER/Library/mail folder.
Do a get info on both sent mail items and then do an import on the one that has the larger MB status.( Take note of which one is larger. )
Do this from the mail app. Mail/File/import mailboxes.
Choose:Mail for Mac OS10. Choose the mailbox that has the larger MB numbers from step 1 and import.
As always BACK-UP Both copies of both Library/Mail folders first. I copied hers to CD before any changes.
I recovered all of her mail successfully.

  • How can I make a rule to mark all messages sent to Mail Trash as Read?

How can I make a rule to mark all messages sent to Mail Trash as Read?
When I look at some emails on my phone, I can see from the title that I don't need to read the email so I delete it without opening it. When I go to my Macbook Pro and open mail, the number of unread messages in my Trash shows next to the name. It drives me nuts. Can I just set a rule to mark all messages sent to trash as read? If that isn't possible, I'd take just making the number not show beside the Trash folder.

Just in the case that I actually do need to go back to them for some reason. I have some OCD tendencies which is also why the number beside the folder drives me nuts.

  • Some read mail items remain marked as unread

Some read mail items remain marked as unread (even after I've read them).
I have to manually mark them as read.
This doesn't happen to all mail items, just some.
    How can I fix this?

A few discoveries I made this morning.
One is that disabling GPGMail seems to solve the problem, or at least significantly reduce its occurrence.
Another is that with GPGMail enabled, it seems to depend on how quickly one opens an email. I can't say for sure that this is a hard and fast rule, but messages staying unread seems to be more of a problem if you've just entered the folder or just been viewing another message and suddenly change to an unread one. It's as though GPGMail causes Mail to need some time to think things through.
A third is that if you have multiple mail accounts, a workaround to reset the unread count exists. If a mail folder in Account One is having problems, you can switch to a folder in Account Two, possibly wait an interval of time (not sure what that interval would be), then switch back to your original Account One folder. That seems to force a refresh of the unread count, without needing a folder rebuild (with consequent loss of expanded threads, etc).
However, for the time being, I've just disabled GPGMail. I can re-enable it as needed, by the looks of it, and it's not as though I've really needed to use it yet.
I could wish, though, that Apple offered proper GPG support, or at least that they made enough of their API available that third parties could do a proper job instead of an ugly and somewhat broken hack. (I've also seen complaints that Apple like to change their API without telling anyone, just to keep third-party developers on their toes =P.) I suppose another problem is lack of available time. Which I also suffer from, so I don't think a "real solution" is forthcoming from this quarter, at least.

  • Using Mail - items being marked as read before I have read them

    Hi
How do I stop Mail marking an item as read as soon as I move the cursor away from it in the ail listing? Just because it is shown in the preview pane does not mean I have read it yet.
In Outlook I can change a setting so that items are not marked a s read until I double click them to open them fully and read them - how do I do the same in Mail?
Also if I delete an item from the list, the cursor moves UP to the previous item (I have ordered the list so that newest mail is at the top. I then start reading from the top down..). Can I change a setting somewhere to move the cursor the other way after processing an email?
    Many thanks

The only way to have it not be marked as read is to turn the preview pane off (then you double-click each message to open/read it).
