Marking podcast as unplayed?

Hi all,
I have a few podcast episodes that I have breifly listened to (only a few seconds), and the little blue dot disappears, marking the podcast as "played". Is there any way to mark these podcasts as "unplayed" and bring the little blue dot back to them? I'm using iTunes 6.0.1 on a Mac running 10.4.3 Tiger.
Thanks in advance,
-Travis

It's OK - I opened my eyes and right clicked on the podcasts and found the "Mark as Unplayed" option.

  • What happened to "Mark Podcast as unplayed" in iTunes 11?

What happened to "Mark Podcast as unplayed" in iTunes 11?
When i download a podcast, i don't necessarily want to listen to it immediately on my MacBook -- I want to listen to it later on my iPhone.  But sometimes iTunes starts playing it.  Even if I stop it immediately, iTunes still marks it as "played", and won't send to the iPhone when I sync.
There used to be an option to mark a podcast as unplayed, but that's gone in iTunes 11.
How do I do mark a podcast as unplayed now?

I can't find "Mark All Played/Unplayed" but if you tap "Edit", you can select as many episodes as you want, and then mark those selected episodes as Played/Unplayed.

  • Marking podcasts as "unplayed" or synching last 10 podcasts on gen 5 nano and iTunes 11?

Since I upgraded to iTunes 11.1, I cannot mark podcasts I have listened to as "unplayed."  Additionally, my iPod nano (gen 5) no longer synchs the last 10 podcasts, as I specificied in settings.  It only synchs "uplayed" podcasts.  So I cannot listen to any podcast more than once, even if I want to.   Suggestions?

These settings have been buggy on previous iPods as well and were fixed with updates. I ended up either syncing to smart playlists or setting podcasts to sync all episodes. I never keep old episode so these settings work for me.

  • Marking podcasts as unplayed

Does anyone know of a way of marking a podcast as unplayed again once you have already listened to it on an iPod?
Basically I want to be able to put the blue dot back next to certain episodes that I might not have finished listening to, so the computer doesn't replace them next time I sync with iTunes.
If there is any way to do this on an iPod, I'd be very grateful to know about it.
    thanks,
    Andy

    It's very simple.
In iTunes, right click the podcast you want to mark as unplayed. Then, go down and click Mark as Unplayed.
    I hope this helps!

  • How do I mark podcasts as unplayed in iTunes 11.0.1?

You can mark unplayed as played but not Played as Unplayed? I've controlled clicked on played podcasts and there is no option to
    mark as unplayed.
    thx, Drake

I'm still not sure what this option (to shuffle a Playlist and then Sync that to the iPod) was or where it was in iTunes 10. This is despite your question having been raised by other people.
Surely, since you can shuffle a Playlist on an iPod, it's not necessary to shuffle it before Syncing, is it?

  • Itunes does not mark podcasts which have been played on ipod as played

When I sync my ipod with itunes, podcasts which I have played on my ipod are not marked as played on itunes. However, if I have played a podcast on itunes it does mark the podcast as played on both itunes and my ipod. This used to work at one time, but for some reason has stopped. How do I get it working again so that itunes will mark a podcast which has been played on my ipod as played and not remark my already played podcast as unplayed after syncing?

I'm having very similar behavior. I wish Apple would get pay a lot more attention to the numerous podcasting sybching/ playing issues. In my case, there's a couple of podcasts in particular that even though I listen to the particular podcast, it never is recognized as having been listened to on my iPod. As a result, old podcasts just seem to keep "hanging around" and are never overwritten or deleted from my iPod (4 GB , nano, 1st generation) when I sync up. Apple... pay attention... please...! Anyone else have this particular behavior ?

  • 'Mark as played/unplayed' for audiobooks

The 'Mark as played/unplayed' option for audiobooks has disappeared from iTunes 11.1.3 on Mavs. Any thoughts on how to get it back?

Okay so I have now just about worked out how to get around some of these issues.
Unfortunately you cannot do everything from the same view!!
To delete a podcast you need to be in the list view where right-click menu option delete seems to work as before.
To force download an episode that has the cloud icon you need to be in the podcasts view when there is a right-click menu option to download this episode.
Why this option is not available in list view shows lack of quality control somewhere.
Once we have episodes downloaded without the cloud icon then the played/unplayed seems to work and the unplayed episodes get moved to ipod/iphone when synched.
What a palaver, it all used to be so simple!

  • IPod sync does not mark Podcasts as "not new" in iTunes

    Hi
Last week I installed a new version of iTunes since I reinstalled Windows. Before the sync between my iPod (60GB 5. gen.) and iTunes worked well. But now the iPod is not capable anymore of marking podcasts as "not new" in iTunes although the podcasts were marked as "not new" before I connected the iPod to my computer. Instead iTunes overwrites the status of the podcasts on my iPod. So whether an episode is new or not on my iPod, if it's new in iTunes it will be new on the iPod after the sync.
    My current version is 7.1.0.59
Is anyone of you aware of the problem and knows any way to solve it?

  • 6th Generation Nano Marking Podcasts as Played and Won't sync Partial

I recently received a 6th generation Nano and I'm having a problem with syncing my podcasts. There are two things I noticed.
As soon as I start listening to a podcast on the device, the blue dot that indicates that podcast is unplayed is gone, whereas on my iphone4, the blue dot shows as partial when I start playing the podcast.
Then when I sync the nano to my PC, it does not put the partially played podcast back onto my nano. When I look at the podcast in my iTunes, it shows as partial. In order for me to get my podcast to show up on my nano, I have to manually check the box for the partial podcast and include it on the device.
This does not happen at all on my iPhone 4. This only happens on my iPod Nano.
Is this an issue or is this working as intended? If it is intended, is there a workaround?

These settings have been buggy on previous iPods as well and were fixed with updates. I ended up either syncing to smart playlists or setting podcasts to sync all episodes. I never keep old episode so these settings work for me.

  • Apple TV Updated to IOS 5.1 - Podcasts Played/Unplayed

    Hi Folks,
I updated my apple TV to IOS 5.1
Now my played video podcasts, show up in the main menu as unplayed.
    Any thoughts.

I don't seem to be able to repeat your problem, it seems it may be something specific to your library. if it bothers you, you could always mark them as watched by holding down the select button on a highlighted podcast.

  • Marking Podcast as watched.

I have always tried to keep my library clean and in doing so I always mark my podcast as watched or unwatched. However, I when I double click (like right clicking) it doesn't give me the option to mark one way or the other.

Also...is this a podcast downloaded from iTunes? If it's from another site and appears in your music library (instead of under podcasts) the option won't appear. If it is in the music library, you can Get Info and under Options change Media kind to Podcast. Then it will appear in the Podcast library.

  • Podcasts errasing unplayed

Since the last update, my daily podcast downloads errase any previous downloads, whether they have been played or not. The unplayed podcasts used to just stack up until I got to them. Now the moment the new episode comes in it replaces the old one. They aren't even showing in my library. I have it set to "all unplayed" but that doesn't seem to do anything. Any thoughts?

Are you sure that you are not just changing the settings for one single podcast? That is, does it say "Settings for: Podcast Defaults" in the Settings window?

  • Marking podcasts as played from Videos app?

I subscribe to a bunch of video podcasts and view them primarily on my iPhone.  I usually sync things up before I go to bed so that I have fresh ones to watch in the morning.  Since I subscribe to so many, it would be nice to be able to quickly scan through the listings and get rid of the ones I'm not interested in watching.  I can't seem to find a good way to do this in the Videos app in iOS5, though.  I've tried deleting them directly from the app, but when I do that they get transferred to my iPhone again the next time I sync.  I'm not sure if this is a bug, but it seems safe to assume that if I delete it on my phone I wouldn't want it to get transferred over again the next time I sync, right?  I was thinking maybe I could just mark the ones I'm not interested in as played instead, but I can't seem to find a way to do this in the app.  Anyone know if this can be done?

I'm not sure if Crossfade works with podcasts. Crossfade is broken and causing issues with music playcounts. Disable it in Preferences/Playback and uncheck Crossfade songs to see if it helps with podcasts.

  • Rating or marking podcast in the Podcast app

Has anyone discovered a way to rank or mark poscast in the new app so that the podcasts you want to save ar not deleted?

No, I have tried creating a playlist with some of my favourite podcast, but it is not seen by the iphone when doing a sync.  It is very annoying and frustrating.  Often podcasts will not download when I am on wifi.

  • 4th Gen Shuffle does not mark podcasts as played in itunes library

I listen to a lot of podcasts while I deliver my mail, and through the years each ipod I use I load the playlist onto, then I listen to what I can while working. At the end of the day I don't always finish the playlist but when I sync to itunes the ones that were played have the blue dot erased so I know to delete them from my library. This however is not happening with my new shuffle. Why? I don't know any Ideas? Thanks

Do you have it set to manually sync or are you syncing playlists automatically?
Check the summary page for your iPod. If you have "Manually Manage Music" checked, then it will not update what you have played. You need to uncheck that, then go to the "Music" tab and/or "Podcast" tab to select what stuff you want to sync with the Shuffle.
