Marking Questions

Would someone tell me how I mark replies to my questions as helpful or solved? I marked 2 of my previous questions as helpful or solved, but they are still listed as unresolved?
Greg

Next to the reply box at the right of each post you will see little buttons with either Helpful or Solved in them. You can click on one and then you will be asked if you really want to mark the post as helpful or solved, once you assent, a yellow (for helpful) or green (for solved) star appears next to the reply section in the post you have marked. Once you award a solved star, your question will show an Answered star in the forum you were posting in. This is how Apple describe it - it's a bit confusing, but solved and answered amount to the same thing:
What are question answers?
When a community member posts a question as a topic starter, other members can post an answer in reply. Please note that not all replies actually answer the question.
An answer can be just some hints or helpful information to help the poster solve an issue. The originator of the topic can mark such a reply as a "Helpful" post. A small yellow star will appear next to that reply and the person who posted the reply will be awarded 5 points. Here's what a reply marked as being "Helpful" looks like:
If a community member posts a specific answer that provides a solution to the original poster's issue, the originator can mark this reply as a "Solved" post. A large green star will appear next to that reply and the person who posted the reply will be awarded 10 points.
Only the original topic poster has the option to mark replies as either Helpful or Solved or to not mark a reply at all. The originator can also end the discussion by marking the topic as "answered," which displays a green star at the top of the topic page to let everyone know that the topic contains valid helpful information.
Note: Only two replies may be classified as Helpful and only one reply may be classified as Solved in any question topic. Non-question topics do not offer these classifications

  • Blinking icon mark question :-(

Hi, my computer show this icon with a mark question blinking before the startup, then I shut it down from the power bottom and then it makes the startup normally. What suggest me.

When you say you tried fsck and 'nothing', do you mean you ran fsck in single-use rmode and it reported no problems, or that it didn't help? Have you tried running Disk Utility> Repair Disk from the Installer menu after booting from your OS X Install disc? (That gives somewhat more descriptive messages than fsck). You can also reset PRAM by restarting, then immediately after the screen goes dark, hold down command-option-p-r until you hear three sets of chimes, then release the keys. That will reset the startup disk to the hard drive, overriding any possiblly corrupted System Preferences settings.
Does the 'blinking icon with a mark question blinking before the startup' referred to in your first post occur when you try to restart via the command under the Apple menu or does this occur first time you try to start up from being turned off?

  • Please improve UI for marking questions as 'Correct'

    Hello,
I recently have started contributing to the JavaFX 2 forum. I am very keen on this technology so I am eager to help people out so it goes well. I started getting points for my answers and now I am slightly addicted to my score raising. Obviously the point system is working exactly as intended, keeping me answering questions!
I have found however that around half of my answers don't get scored. The OP will return to the thread, reply with 'Hey that worked! Thanks' mark the question as 'Closed' but not actually mark my answer as 'Correct'. I actually did the very same thing when I first posted questions on the forum.
Given the frequency I think it is fair to presume that the UI is not as intuitive as it could be. I would suggest an easy fix would be to add some nice, short prompting text in a clearly visible, colored panel when an OP is replying to their own thread. A bit more effort but great would be if when the OP closes the question another screen shows asking them to select the Correct answer.
I (and others on the forum) often will reply to the OP saying 'please mark as correct' but since the forum doesn't make the OP a watcher of the thread by default (a bit weird by the way, I'd prefer it to) an from the OPs perspective the topic is done, this rarely works. It also adds unnecessary noise to the forum.
Let's face it, these points will lead to power, money, fame and women. No one wants to miss out! ;)
    Cheers,

If your purpose is to come here to boost your ego by gaining status on the forums then you're here for the wrong reasons. People come here to help others, have a go at the challenging issues and learn from those who give interesting or good answers so they can improve their own skills.
I have found however that around half of my answers don't get scored. That's life. Happens to all of us. Most aren't bothered.

You may think it's an easy fix, but the version of Jive software the forum is based upon is not supported anymore and the ability for the Oracle team to develop it and tailor it is very limited.
I (and others on the forum) often will reply to the OP saying 'please mark as correct'Do that in the SQL and PL/SQL forum and you will be warned not to do it again.
    See point 7 of the SQL and PL/SQL FAQ post: {message:id=9698382}
but since the forum doesn't make the OP a watcher of the thread by default (a bit weird by the way, I'd prefer it to)It does. Sometimes it's glitchy and doesn't work though.

Let's face it, these points will lead to power, money, fame and women. No one wants to miss out! ;)No, they lead to boosted ego's, unprofessionalism and members jumping in quickly to answer questions poorly and then begging for points when the answer may not necessarily be the correct one.
If an OP marks your post as correct or helpful, great, but if they don't just carry on, it's no big deal. All the guru's and experts on these forums got their points without asking for any of them. They didn't need to as they provided professional and helpful answers.

I cannot seem to format a message correctly when I write in hebrew from right to left

  • Ripple and Marking Question

Hello, I have a couple of questions that I am running into as I try to decide weather or not to switch from Avid to FCP. I may have more silly questions like this in the future, but for right now can anybody help me out with the following...
    1. Is there a ripple button anywhere? ie, to toggle ripple on and off for all or just selected tracks.
    2. Is it possible to mark in and out for multiple clips in the timeline at the same time? Shift selecting the clips in the timeline and hitting 'x' doesn't seem to do it.
Thanks in advance for any help,
    Jeff
    G5 Quad   Mac OS X (10.4.3)   FCP 5.0.4

    1. Is there a ripple button anywhere? ie, to toggle ripple on and off for all or just selected tracks.
Nah, Final Cut insists on keeping whatever clip relations - in terms of placement in the timeline - that you had before your ripple function (extending an Out point, altering speed for a clip, close a gap, etc)
A common workaround is to lock the tracks that you don't what to ripple.
    2. Is it possible to mark in and out for multiple clips in the timeline at the same time? Shift selecting the clips in the timeline and hitting 'x' doesn't seem to do it.
Select your clips, then press Shift-A.
This is also available in the menubar but I don't know where (I don't mess with menus usually and I'm not at my FCP station to check on it).

  • Marking questions as answered

    Hi All,
It would help if users of this forum marked posts as answered if they have received a post that answers or at least partially answers their question. It make it easier to track what questions are still unanswered and in need of further followup.
    Thanks,
    Todd Little

    Hi Todd
You cannot mark "as answered" your own questions you have answered your self. :-(
Not a big deal but it happened to me once.
Try to mark your own answer "as answered".

  • Question Mark question

I am working on a friends iBook G4 1 GHZ. I am very experienced working on macs and have found a problem I can't figure out. When I restart the iBook I get the 'flashing question mark'. When I shutdown and then restart, the iBook starts up fine. I have run disk utility and diskwarrior from target disk mode to another mac and the hard drive checks out fine. I have zapped the pram and reset the firmware. Any ideas?? Thanks

    Jeff:
    You lost me somewhere between
When I restart the iBook I get the 'flashing question mark'.
    and
When I shutdown and then restart, the iBook starts up fine.
So, does that computer start up, or not? Was this a momentary blip, or is it a contining issue? Under what conditions does this happen?
Can you shed a bit more light on the subject, please?

  • Ripple Delete and Chapter Marker question

    Hi All,
If I ripple delete a section of a clip ( and I guess more generically, if one cuts/inserts) are the chapter markers on the timeline kept in sync with the remaining clips. And if not, is there a workaround.
    Thanks

I think Patrick is referring to this
    What are question answers?
This isn't so much about points, but to make the forums useful for searches. If you search for the answer to a question that's been asked a hundred times before, the green stars tell you which answers solve the problem or at least answer the question asked.

  • Printer/Crop Mark Question

    Hi all,
I searched through the topics and found a post that was
talking about the crop mark. I have the same problem here, whenever
    i go to print>freehand MX>advanced, all that i find is just a
small window called "print preview" that's it. There's no
separations, paper setup, imaging, etc. I tried to open the same
dialog at my school and it has those features.
    Judy wrote:
    >What is your platform and OS?

It's OS X and yes, i installed the drivers (I own Epson R1800
and HP Psc 1200 series) and then add them using printer setup
utility. I also use apple airport express to print wirelessly.
    My questions:
    1. Does it have to be a post-script printer to have those
    features? (imaging, crop marks, etc)
    2. Does printing wirelessly affect this on Freehand MX?
(doesn't affect my adobe cs2 applications though)
    3. What can i do/try to have those features?
p.s. I read about the Xtra but i'm trying to get my Freehand
    "fixed" here =)
    Thank you
    Harry

Thr crop marks will not show unless you have a postscript
printer. If you are sending the job to a commercial printer they
will insert crop marks. If you are printing yourself and require
crop marks you can insert them with a PDF making application such
as Adobe Acrobat Professional. If you don't have that there is an
open source application called PDF maker which you can download at
www.freedomleague.org.za or at least find a link from that
    site.

  • Flashing Folder Question Mark Question

    Hi all,
So on Wednesday this past week, I came into the office, started up the computer, went to get a cup of coffee, came back and found the flashing folder icon with a question mark in it. I used my iTouch to access the web, look for solutions and, as expected, tried to start up from the install disk. I couldn't find the original disk that came with the iMac, but happened to have a 10.5 install DVD so I popped that in, restarted, and waited.
After a minute or so of not doing anything, it promptly gave me that dark grey screen of death, the one with the error message saying "You need to restart your computer" in four or five languages. (Ah crap, I said.) So I shut down and when I restarted, I held down the Eject key to get the 10.5 DVD out. The computer started up normally. No problems.
I promptly backed up everything, repaired permissions, but had no other problems with the computer the rest of the day or all day yesterday.
This morning, I come into the office, same problem. Only this time I hunt down the original install disk that came with the iMac. I start it up and I'm able to get to the install screen. First, I select "Choose startup disk." My hard drive is not visible. I run disk utility. Same deal. No hard drive. Ah crap I say. So, I shut down the computer, restart it while holding down the Eject key. The install disk spits out, and the computer restarts normally.
(I'm backing everything up and running disk utility now.)
Anyone have any idea what's going on here? And, is it time to panic?
Important details: it's a 24 inch iMac purchased a little less than a year ago. It's running 10.5.7 and the last time I updated the software was probably Tuesday, or whenever the new iTunes was released.

As you have not actually seen the onset of the problem, there's still a question of the exact sequence of events (i.e., did the office cat prance on the keyboard?). However, the fact that you get the question mark disk icon (which means the firmware is not finding a bootable drive) twice now, but eventually manage to get the system going leads me to believe the drive may be failing. Odd, but not unheard of; my old PBG4's HDD failed three weeks after purchase and was replaced under warranty.
First order of the day, as soon as you get the thing working again is *BACK EVERYTHING UP* Try to get a suitable sized external drive and do a bootable clone of the startup volume; you can use SuperDuper!, CarbonCopyCloner or even Disk Utility for that purpose. Note that, in a pinch, you don't need a disk the size of the internal drive, you only need the size of the used portion: do a *Get Info* on the Macintosh HD desktop icon and look for the Used: item.
With your system, applications and documents safe, open Disk Utility, click on the device (item above Macintosh HD) and check the +S.M.A.R.T. Status+. If it says anything different from Verified, the HDD has some form of physical damage and should be replaced. Since the Mac is under warranty, you should get in contact with an Apple Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider ASAP before the one-year base warranty runs out (did you purchase AppleCare?).
If the HDD checks out as Verified, get your original Install DVD #1, stick it in, reboot and hold down the D key before the chime. That will load up the Apple Hardware Test diagnostics, which you should then run to verify all the computer. Report back what you find.

  • Quicktime 7.2 - The Question Mark Question

Yes I know there are numerous posts with this same issue and I believe me have read them all. I've patiently followed every tip I've read in many discussions. Reinstalled Quicktime. Installed Flash 9 Upgrade. Changed Quicktime settings (unchecked enable flash, unchecked Flash Media under MIME settings). Trashed Quicktime preferences. Etc...
However in Safari, on upon trying to open any movie trailer on the Quicktime web site
    http://www.apple.com/trailers/
or even watch the iLife 08 guided tour
    http://www.apple.com/ilife/guidedtour/small.html
I get a Quicktime logo with a question mark. In Firefox (which I've also reinstalled) it quits unexpectedly when trying to open a movie trailer.
In my own experiments, I've opened another admin account on my computer and when I log in there, everything works fine. You say "well just use that account then", that would mean me having to transfer all my files to the other account which I don't want to do unless someone has a really quick way to do so.
Also, in checking the system preferences for Quicktime under both accounts, I don't see any difference. Both accounts are accessing the same applications from the root level Applications folder, so why does it work in one account and not the other? Someone help, as I don't think I can read another 10 page discussion on this. Thanks in advance.

    doval66 & teeray,
    To The Apple Discussion Boards!
Both of you are buried in someone elses ANSWERED thread. Therefore, I strongly suggest that you both start a new topic about your issue so it can receive more focused attention.
However, in the meantime both should do the following before reposting:
At the top right of this site you will see Search Discussions.
In the blank search window w/the magnifying glass in the left corner type Quicktime and question mark.
You will then find several troubleshooting solutions pertaining to your issue for you to try out.
To teeray: I also use FF. However, you do not indicate which version you are using. Make sure you have the latest versions of Adobe Flash Player Software
    Good luck both of you!

  • Clip Marker Question

    Hello,
I am currently evaluating PP CS6 on my laptop (Win7) and am liking everything so far except for the removal of the Jog/Shuttle transport controls, but that appears to be a moot point now. I have played with JKL and the shift key and am trying to get used to it.
Anyways I can't seem to find how to add clip markers. The new sequence markers are very cool and love the fact that the comments can be displayed on the sequence. However in my workflow I add a lot of markers directly to clips so when I do a ripple trim the markers ripple with the clip and do not get out of sync as sequence markers will. For the life of me I have been trying to figure out how to add a marker to a clip in CS6. I work in 5.5 almost every day so I am rather stumped on how to add a marker to a clip in CS6. I hope I am just missing a keyboard shortcut or in a menu or something somewhere and that fea ture has not been removed.
I watched the marker video and see how they can be added to clips in Prelude however I want to add them to clips in PP.
    Thanks,
    Shane

Double-click a clip in a sequence or in the Project panel to add the clip into the Source Monitor and add a clip there, or go into the Keyboard Shortcuts dialog and assign a shortcut to the Timeline Panel item, Add Clip Marker.
