Markup tool properties error, Acrobat closes

Every time I try to access the markup tool properties (ie: trying to change the color of a rectangle) Acrobat encounters an error and closes. Same error occurs with other markup tools and also cropping. This problem pretty much makes my Acrobat markup tools unusable. It is not a corrupt .pdf either because it is happening to every .pdf I edit.
I have tried reinstalling Acrobat with no luck. Need suggestions please.
See attached image for example of error received.

Trobbel - This indeed is puzzling behavior. Clicking 'Make Current Properties Default' should preserve the default  appearance for each. I don't have a solution, but merely a couple of suggestions:
1) Make sure you have installed any available upgrade for your version of Acrobat Professional.
2) Consider using the line tool exclusively - you can add an arrowhead and make one tool perform both tasks.
Hope this helps. /rmbrown

  • Adding interactive buttons in Acrobat X Standard disables the Commenting and markup tools

    Why does adding interactive buttons to PDFs in Acrobat X Standard disable the Commenting and markup tools in the PDFs, but only when they are viewed in the Reader, not when opened in Acrobat?  When the buttons are removed, the Commenting and markup tools are re-enabled in Reader.
    Thank you.

    Which version of Reader are you testing with?

  • Acrobat XI Markup tools always initially locked.

    Is there a way to unlock the markup tools so that they remain unlocked for an entire markup session?  It us very cumbersome to have to unlock a tool for each use of the same tool  on the same page.  Does the automatically-locked tool feature serve a purpose?  For me it is a major obstacle to productivity.  If I select a tool by mistake, I have to unlock it even to remove it from the page.  Ideal for me would be to be able to make the default setting on my computer to be "tools unlocked until I intentionally lock them".  Second choice would be for the user to be able to make "unlocked" the default markup tool setting for a given document and user.  As a minimum, I should not have to unlock each tool more that once during a markup session.

    Thank you Gilad.  It didn't work like that but here's what I did that worked:
    1. Select a tool & place it on the document.
    2. Right click on tool; select properties; click on locked in order to unlock; click on OK.
    3. Right click on tool; select properties; click on "make current properties default".
    4. Repeat for each tool.

  • I would activate Markup tool when I use Acrobat reader Activex.

    Is there a way to activate Markup in activex mode or in web browser mode?
    I know I can activate Makup tool when i use the full application of Acrobat Reader. But has soon i try to use it has activex mode markup tool are disable.

    Hello,
    In order to activate Markup tool in browser, you need to place this into a .reg file and double click it to replace the registry key:-
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Adobe Acrobat\11.0\Annots\cPrefs]
    "bprintCommentPopups"=dword:00000000
    "bshowAnnotToolsWhenNoCollab"=dword:00000001
    "tlastViewedStampCategory"="Favorite Stamps"
    "dalwaysZoomZoom"="0.000000"
    "tlastUsedStamp"="#3MDRaCYQB0Ciy106Wa0OvB"
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Adobe Acrobat\11.0\Annots]
    "bStampsPaletteInvisible"=dword:00000001
    "bshowAnnotToolsWhenNoCollab"=dword:00000001
    Note:- Please create a registry backup before making any changes to registry.

  • Enable Commenting Tools in Adobe Acrobat under Browser Plug-in in Internet Explorer using

    We have a problem in showing commenting tools in Adobe Acrobat under browser plug-in in Internet Explorer.  Adobe Support cannot answer my question and refer me to Devnet here.
    Our system is using browser plug-in to display PDF file by Acrobat under > > Internet Explorer (document viewer). The PDF documents have reader extension enabled.
    We supposed that if a PDF page is viewed and I customize the toolbar, the same toolbar and icon will be displayed next time when I retrieve a page, only if I select "Review and Comment" icon, and it only applies for v8.0.0. If I do not select review and comment icon, or I have selected review and comment icon but > > use other version of 8.x, my selected toolbar and icon cannot reappear next time.
    If my selected toolbar and icon do not appear, I can press F8 to hide the icons. If press F8 again to unhide the icons, all my selected icons can be shown this time. But it does not automatically re-appear if I open another documet viewer.
    Kindly note that all PDF files have reader extension enabled, and only Acrobat 8.0.0 Professional is used in client PC. There is no Adobe Reader in the PC. The PDF version is 1.4 (Acrobat 5.x) or 1.5 (Acrobat 6.x). The user has comment rights since the PDF file has reader extension and Acrobat 8.0.0 is used. User has no problem in mark-up the PDF files, but has problem in showing the selected tools.
    OS: Windows 2000 SP4
    Browser: IE 6.0 SP1
    Acrobat version: Acrobat 8.0.0 Professional
    PDF version: 1.4 (Acrobat 5.x) or 1.5 (Acrobat 6.x)
    Steps to produce the problem.
    1. Scan paper document and create a batch of PDF files (one page per file)
    2. Enable reader extension for all PDF files by LifeCycle.
    3. Put the PDF files into a web based interface, entering a page number will open a new web browser which interface the browser plug-in and display the content of the imaged PDF file by Adobe Acrobat Professional 8.0.0.
    4. Open a page. It only show a few icons on toolbar (see a.png).
    5. Select the commenting icons to be shown (do not enabled in "review and comment)".  The icons will be shown.
    6. If the browser is closed, then use the web interface to open another page, the selected tools cannot be shown (same as a.png attached in my previous email).
    7. Select "review and comment" tool. (see b.png attached in my previous email)
    8. The selected tools are shown again (see c.png attached in my previous email).
    9. Close the browser, use the web interface to open another page, the selected tools are still here.
    10. Unselect "review and comment", the selected tools will be hidden next time when a page is opened by the web interface.
    11. Close the browser, and open a new page in web interface, the PDF file will be shown, and the selected icons are hidden.
    12. Press F8 to hide icons, all tools are hidden.
    13. Press F8 to unhide icons, all selected tools that are not shown in step 11 are shown again
    14. If Acrobat 8.0.0 is patched or updated, "review and comment" tool has no effect in "memorizing" the selected tools.

    That option is nothing to do with the PDF being editable, it's to control the display of the toolbars. "Reading Mode" is when the toolbars are hidden and the black head-up display navigation bar appears at the bottom of the screen.
    PDFs displayed within a web browser with Acrobat/Reader X are not editable, nor can you apply markups, unless you're within a browser-based-review workflow. You have to save a copy locally and open it in desktop mode to make any changes.

  • 'Keep tool selected' in Acrobat XI Pro 11.0.10

    Why can't I find 'Keep tool selected' for any of my markup tools in Acrobat XI Pro 11.0.10? I want to only once select the 'Draw arrow' tool for example and then draw as many arrows as possible. I DO NOT want to have to go back and select the arrow tool after each and every arrow I draw ... amazing.!!! I saw that in previous versions they had this toggle 'Keep tool selected' but now I cannot find in anywhere in acrobat xi pro 11.0.10, which to my knowledge is the latest.
    Can anyone tell me where to find this or if not that then is there a workaround? Cos at the moment there's just say extra mileage on my cursor.

    Thanks for the reply, but it doesn't work for me. When I tick "Restore last view settings when reopening documents" and then close the document, then when I reopen it afterwards it only opens at the same page at which I closed it, but the Comments panel remains closed, so I need to reopen it again. That is what I was asking. Is there a way to have to Comments panel expanded every single time I open a PDF. "Restore last view settings when reopening documents" does not do that, at least as far as I see.

  • Adobe Reader 9.1 - Fatal Error : Acrobat failed to connect a DDE server

    Hi Everyone,
    I have some users telling me that when they try to open a pdf attachment in Outlook 2007. Nothing happens. The system just sits there as if you did not click on the attachment. If you wait long enought a popup box from adobe reader comes up and says:
    Fatal Error
    Acrobat failed to connect a DDE server.
    All the PDFs are very simple, just simple scanned images or converted over from a document into a PDF.
    I've tried repairing the install and still had no luck - same behaviour. The only way the pdf opens is if we go into task manager and close the AcroRd32.exe process or logoff and log back in.
    If it helps, the most recent system change was the upgrade to IE7 and a new anti-virus software.
    Thanks,
    KEvin

    No solution I am afraid but same problem, running full version of AVG and problem hit immediately after Adobe Reader 9.1 upgrade.  Pretty darn sure problem is in the upgrade but the relevant Restore Point was overwritten before I figured it out.  Any advice welcome.

  • Markup tools placement  on grid instead of precise

    Markup tools callout, text box, cloud, arrow, line, rectangle, oval jump around on a grid when placing and sizing initially. Once placed, they can be moved and sized smoothly and precisely. The pencil tool is not affected; it still works normally. The tools used to place smoothly and then drag smoothly to the size wanted. The problem appeared to start after a bunch of Windows updates, but I don't want to remove the updates, which include several security updates.
    Repairing Acrobat didn't fix the problem. Changing hardware acceleration did not fix the problem. It doesn't look like my preferences in Acrobat have changed. Display drivers are up-to-date.
    Ideas on how to correct the problem are appreciated. Here is some system info:

  • Is it possible when using the markup tools to make them locked in position?

    I am using Acrobat 8 Pro and my boss wants to be able to draw on a PDF. which is fine when he uses the markup tools provided, the only problem is that when he has to draw something that starts and ends on a existing markup it selects the markup and moves it. Is there anyway to make it so that a selection tool has to be engaged before something can be selected, instead of automatically being able to select things once the cursor it brought over it. Thanks

    If you save the document manually as a PSD file in Phtoshop not from within an Action, Script, Plugin or Droplette.  You may be able to write a Photoshop that would do as save as Jpeg,  And you should be able trigger its execution by setting up a Script Save event using the Script event manager.  When You do a manual save  the script should be triggered.  I wrote may be able to for I have never tried to write that script or set up a Script Manager Save event.  I have only use open events.

  • Clone tool: program error window (El. 8.0)

    When I try to use the clone tool a window opens saying there is a program error. Is there a way to fix this? I was wondering if reinstalling the program was necessary or if there may be some other way around the problem.

    Barbara, I had a reply from Adobe help centre. I haven't been able to try tis yet, but hoefully it will help you.

    Kindly follow this method to use clone stamp tool in PSE8.
    1. select the layer you would like to work on.
    2. select clone stamp tool form tool box.
    3. Press ALT+ left mouse click , to choose the area.
    4. now start painting.
    NOTE: I believe you are not selecting the area by pressing Alt+left

    In-case you are using the correct work-flow however you are still

    1. close Photohsop Element (if it is open).
    2. press ShiftCtrlAlt these 3 buttons on your keyboard , do not
    release these 3 buttons and launch Photoshop Element.
    3. do not release the three buttons and click on edit to launch editor.

    When PSE goes whacky the first thing to do is to reset the preferences. Quit the editor (quit PSE if on a mac), then restart it while holding down CTRLALTShift (CommandOptionShift on a mac). Keep holding the keys till you see a window asking if you want to delete the settings file. You do.

  • Markup Tools problem

    I'm using the markup tools (arrows, lines, etc) to mark up a pdf document and I am not able to draw the arrow (or line) where I would like to.  It is almost like the cursor snaps the arrow point to some invisible grid point.  Then when I go to draw the end point for the arrow, it does the same thing -- snaps the end to an invisible grid point.  This is causing problems because I need to be able to point to a particular point in the pdf.
    Does anyone know of a setting that will let me draw my markups in more of a free-form?  Do I have to turn a setting off? I'm encountering the same problem when I go to move the arrow or line (or text box for that matter) -- it only lets me place the markup at grid points.
    I'm using Acrobat Pro 7.0

    Wow...that's a little embarrassing.  Thanks!

    I have exactly the same problem as Oxbay - but, I do have the CD & the serial number. When reinstalling the program, it just loads, never gives me the opportunity to save to a specific drive (which caused the problem in the first place), enter the serial number, or ask which type of installation (full or custom). I use the program erratically so no intention of upgrading to 8.0 Professional, but do need the program. You can't get into the "Help" section for a detect or repair issue. Any other suggestions would be very helpful. Thank you!

    Hi, i'm new using numbers, and when I try to open a excel file don't let me do it, instead appears a box whit a error and close app,  any help?

    What does the error say?
    A couple of thoughts: the file is corrupted or is password-protected. Corruption is more likely to cause Numbers to crash & Numbers cannot open password-protected Excel files. Try using one of the free Office clones & see what happens.

  • Why can't I search/find text I added in a PDF with the TouchUp Text tool in Adobe Acrobat Pro 9/X?

    If I use the TouchUp Text tool in Adobe Acrobat Pro 9/X to modify a text, the program can't find the added/changed text. But when I just delete letters/words in the text, the rest/changed words can be found. Is that a known problem? Is there any fix or workaround?

    Fantastic. There is all sorts of nonsense out there on how to fix this problem, but your simple suggestion works perfectly. Thanks!
