Mask Box Lines Show Up in PDF

When I export my Pages document as a PDF, it ends up with a gray outline of the rectangles I used to mask the images in the document. Is there any way to stop this from happening?

It seems to be similar but s far as I know, it's different.
In the OP's question, the lines was appearing on screen, not on printing.
I responded:
+It seems that it's a Preview artefact.+
+When I uses Adobe Reader to display the PDF, there is no white rectangle.+
+I was able to reproduce the described behavior creating a document from scratch, but only when the original PDF was made from a solid color (in fact a shape of Pages).+
+When the original PDF is a picture, I am unable to reproduce the behavior.+
I have no such Photoshop file available but my memory rings.
May you check how it behaves if you remove the transparent background?
As old users like me perfectly know, when a user guide states: the program may open Photoshop files we must understand: "it may open them but maybe with some drawbacks" or "it may open some of them".

  • When saving my illustrator file to a pdf it doesnt show all the artwork ie boxes are hidden in the pdf or only showing part of them. How can I fix this?

when saving my illustrator file to a pdf it doesnt show all the artwork ie boxes are hidden in the pdf or only showing part of them. Even some text is hidden. I have flattened the artwork so everything is in one layer. How can I fix this?

    Hi John
I have indicated on the attached jpeg where the problem is, basically a line of text is missing at the top and part of the feeding diagram is missing. I created the artwork in different layer and then flattened. All text has been converted to outlines, however the areas being affected have no transparency, I have used solid fills or no fills. I get the same result when I export the file as a jpeg. Hope you can help.

  • Check box showing double when PDF opened in Preview

I'm setting up a simple check box functionality on a PDF my company sends out. I noticed the check boxes look strange when the PDF is opened up in Preview on Mac. Not sure about PC as we don't have one here. It appears to look fine in Acrobat but I believe a good portion of our clients will use Preview. What you see in the image below is the result when I make a check box and change the color to blue green. The black check mark over it comes out of nowhere. My temporary work-around is to make the check mark art invisible so just that crappy black line shows up instead, although I hate the way it looks.
Any help is much appreciated, thanks!

You should always include a link to the FREE Adobe Reader with advice that best results will be seen using it when you distribute a PDF.
Of course you cannot control what others will use, but if you expect them to use Preview you need to dumb down the design accordingly.

  • Boundary lines show in PDF

I hope this is the right place to post this. If not, would someone tell me the best forum on which to post it?
Some of my finished PDFs have boundary lines showing around--or sometimes even within--text boxes filled with color. The files were created in InDesign CS4 (same problem happened with CS3, however), and I've tried making PDFs all three ways (using the utility within ID, using Acrobat Pro 9, or using Distiller 9). I can eliminate the lines around the text box by using the "create outlines" command, but nothing I do in ID takes away any lines that appear within the text box.
I have also tried using different PDF creation settings (X1-a, standard, high quality, etc.). "Standard" and "Smallest file size" take away the lines.
Any suggestions and/or explanations would be much appreciated!

My feeling is that LSI (and many other printers) specify Distiller PDF
as their only legitimate source because it's easier for them to specify
and support one (pretty good, BTW) source. They don't want to have to
test, support, and specify all of the many different PDF sources. If it
was a matter of choosing between Distiller and Indesign, they would
probably choose Indesign, but books are made in many other programs,
some of which have PDF export capability, and Distiller has quite a few
competitors as well (Jaws is the one that I can remember, but there are
quite a few others, some of which are pretty cheesy).

Please repost this to the appropriate InDesign forum. Your question has nothing to do with the "PDF Language and Specifications" but rather, issues associated with flattening transparency within InDesign and yielding a suboptimal PDF file.

    Hi skt102711,
I would like to inform you that acrobat doesn't support .epub to .pdf format conversion. Please browse this Link for more information : Supported file formats | Acrobat, Reader

  • Thin white lines showing around shapes

When I open a logo created in Illustrator in other programs such as acrobat or photoshop there are thin white lines showing around every object! Even on the inside of the surronding lines of an area colored using the live paint bucket (black area surrounden by black lines). I see no lines in Illustrator and there is no "stroke" on these objects (only fill). I have tried to save it to different formats (ai, eps and pdf because I want to keep it vectorized) but it doesn´t help. What can I do?

They don't print. Search the Knowledgebase for "stitching" for an explanation.

  • Hairline white line around images in PDF for press

    CS3, Windows XP
I searched the forum and didn't find this exact question, so..., I place PSD file in ID. When I export to PDF for the press run, I get a thin hairline white box around the photo. It only seems to happen when the placed image is over a gradient. It also only happens on PDF files for press run - either Press Quality or PDF/X-1a:2001. When I export to "Smallest File Size" it looks fine. I have the border of the image set to 0 and the color to None.
And it only seems to happen sometimes. A month or so ago I created a similar piece using different photos, but the same gradient background and it looked and printed fine.
    Thoughts?

The stitching and a grey box was showing up on my press proofs. The printer suggested that I flatten the image before I send it to them.
Sometimes I see in on screen and sometimes I don't, but my printer says they see it every time and that it will show up on the proof. I've been trying several different PDF exporting options in ID. We are getting the proofs done correctly, but there's only one guy at my printer that can get the file corrected. I'm not sure exactly what he is doing, but one of the people I deal with suggested that he was opening the file in PS, flattening it again, and exporting to PDF, again.
He's the boss and not alway around, so I'm trying to figure out how I can get file exported correctly.
    Thanks for your help.

  • Invisible Lines showing on Export

    Hello,
I have done quite a bit of research before posting this however if I missed an article about it feel free to link me. I have designed artwork that uses lots of colors and lines. Everything was pretty much designed with lines and shapes and then I used live paint to paint in certain sections. The artwork looks perfect when exported as a GIF and it appears fine in Illustrator. The problem happens when I export the document as a PDF. When I export it as a PDF, tiny white lines show up where I have invisible lines in Illustrator. These invisible lines were put there in the first place so I could have set regions for the live paint without them showing. I'm not sure why they are showing up when I export.
I have tried multiple PDF settings and also tried flattening the layers and attempting to use Transparency Flattener Presets and export it as a PDF 1.3 but it is still greyed out in the export options when I try.
I've attached a screenshot of the PDF after it has been exported to see the lines. You will notice black lines and thicker white lines (like the one at the top), these are intentional. the ones that are undesired is the thin one near the bottom whre you can see theres a break point in color and then multiple ones going up. Deleting these with live paint selection, expanding the art, using direct selection tool to delete all ruin the art flow or do not work.

    How it looks in illustrator:
    Thanks!

    They appear at any zoom.
The last one is how it appears in Illustrator.
These are going to be printed for cover art and more material but as of now I need a nice PDF to send out so it can be zoomed in.
Interesting enough, I just checked on another computer using Adobe Acrobat Reader, and to your point they do not show up. So it appears they are only showing up when I view the PDF on my Mac using Preview. I also viewed it in Safari and Chrome and they showed up there as well.

  • Type on a path doesn't show up in PDF when exported/printed

I have a file with leader lines that I typed text onto the paths. It looks fine onscreen in InDesign, but when printed or exported to PDF, the lines show up and the text does not. Any ideas?
    Windows XP SP3
    InDesign CS4 6.0.3

Thanks, Bob. This is the first time in 3 years that an upgrade patch has actually worked for my particular issue - I'm glad to see that there is some use to them as I was beginning to wonder!

I have photoshop cc, and I am used to photoshop elements. In photoshop it wont allow me to just click on a layer, and have it select that layer . I have to click on the layer in the box that shows all my layers in order to select it. I also want it to not only select the layer on the actual project, but put a hashed line around it that allows me to resize it manually, without having to do it in another window. Does that make sense? I cant even get the layer to select. PLEAE HELP. Id also be able to just click on the layer and drag it. It wont let me, and I am confused.

If you were serious to learn Photoshop, I'd advise you to take Photoshop classes at your nearest community college or some such institution, to take a subscription to lynda.com, to watch all the Photoshop videos at Adobe TV, to google for specific video tutorials on You Tube and for other tutorials in text format.
Even the Help menu in Photoshop can be a great starting place.
Don't expect to find in Photoshop the kind of hand-holding features that Elements has and that appeal to beginners and amateurs.

  • Black lines show up on final print

In CS4 when ever I save to PDF and try to print my document these horizontal black lines show up.  They are most notable around areas with varying transparency.
This happen to anyone else? Any ideas?

Is your print head clean and are you using the right paper? Sounds like it's simply spitting too much ink on the paper and it smears... also reset your printer driver settings, if you used some "Saturation" tweaks. This will increase the amount of ink used and further the issue.

  • Getting a watermark background image to underlay box lines and lines.

I've added a page header to my report with a watermark that underlays following sections.  My box lines aren't showing up because the image covers them. Everything else displays above the image.  Is there any way to solve this problem without using text boxes with borders?

I tried this and it didn't turn out very well. My image is really light gray in colour (with a white background) and I'm having a rough time making the transparency show up in Crystal since it won't support .GIF images. When I do it in .JPG or .PNG it corrupts the image so bad you can barely see it after its been made transparent. I'm using GIMP 2.0 as my editor. I don't know if there is an easier way to do this. You would think the program would have a simpler way to add a background image into reports.  -.-

  • Text input box to show in another text field

    Hello,
I have a text input box (Text1) showing during a certain label on the stage.  On another label there is another text field (Text2) that is not input-able.  This second text field (Text2) should show whatever the user has inputted in the first text input field (Text1).
Both of these elements are not symbols and right now they are both text elements.
Does anyone know how to do this?
    Thanks,
    ~iana~

I believe the inputField is set accordingly.  And including your reply, here's what I've got on my stage:
    sym.$("Name").attr('contentEditable', true);
    var inputValue = sym.$("Name").value;
    // other text
    sym.$("Signature").html(inputValue);
Thus far, this does not work. "Name" field is Text1 (inputField) and the "Signature" is Text2 (text box)
I'm new to all this so I've prob got something wrong...do you know what I should adjust?
