Mask Issue

I created some masks from letters.  When I paste these on a solid layer, they come out the original size and are fine.  Whenever I place them over a .jpg, however, they shrink smaller.  This would not be a problem, except that re-sizing masks is annoying.  I'm also curious to figure out why they are shrinking?

If your workflow was to create a text layer, then use Layer>Create Masks from Text, then select the masks in the timeline and paste the mask a jpeg that has been scaled then the masks will also be scaled to match the scale of the layer. Change he layer scale back to 100% and reset the position to comp center and the masks should be exactly the same size and in the same place.
The only way to mask a layer and keep he mask size and position the same size and in the same position in the composition is to use the mask as a track matte for the layer. You do this by placing your text above your jpg and then selecting Alpha Matte from the Track Matte options in the Modes column in the Timeline.
If you want the mask size to match a scaled layer then you must pre-compose the layer by selecting it then go to Layer>Pre-Compose (keyboard shortcut is Shift + Ctrl/Cmnd +C) and select Move All Attributes to the new composition. Now the pre-composition will be the at 100% scale so when you paste a mask it will be the  same size and in the same position as it was when you copied it from the original layer.

  • External Phone Number Mask issue in CUCM 8.6

I'm having an issue with External Phone Number Masks in CUCM 8.6
Until recently our DID ranges were all in the 301-713-nnnn range.  Using the EPNM worked successfully providing CallerID.    We have now added some DIDs with the prefix 301-427.
I have set the Route List Detail Configuration to:
Use Calling Party's External Phone Number Mask*  Off
    Calling Party Transform Mask   3014279999
However, when I run debug isdn q931 on the gateway the Calling Party Number = '3017139999'.
It appears that the mask 3014279999 is being changed to 3017139999 by Call Manager,  but I do not know where this is happening.
I do not have any translation  or transformations set.

Here is my understanding of the Caller ID.  You can set or change the ID in 4 places:
    1.  The DN - set the External Phone Number Mask on the DN on the phone device e.g. if the DN is 1234 and the EPNM is 301713XXXX , the caller ID becomes 3017131234
    2. The Route Pattern - you can check the box to use the EPNM set in 1 or leave unchecked and set a mask here in the same way as 1.   A mask set here will overwrite the mask in 1. In my case I want to use the EPNM and I have the option unchecked and no transformation
    3. The Route List (Route List Detail) - you can set Use Calling Party's EPNM to ON or OFF or Default.  ON means use the DNs EPNM.  If set to OFF you can set a mask here and this will overwrite the mask in 1. and 2.   I my case I have this set ON to use the DNs EPNM
    4. On the Gateway - on the endpoints you can set Caller ID DN in Call Routing Outbound Calls.  This setting overwrites the masks from 1., 2. and 3.   You need to reset the gateway (not just the endpoints) for changes to take effect.   In my case this is blank.  It did have a value of 301713XXXX.  When I removed this I failed to reset the gateway to the setting was still active causing my issue

  • Illustrator - Pattern Swatch / Clipping mask issue

I'm currently working in Illustrator CS6. I'm creating pattern swatches and have successfully created 20 - but 4 are giving me the following issue.
When I drag the perfect swatch tile into swatches it appears as so instead of the perfect tile:
"New pattern swatch 3" has a white space on the right. Which sometimes when I create the swatch takes up half of the 'swatch.'
When I go to create a shape and apply the pattern, I am left with an empty box.
When I double click to adjust the pattern I get this dialog box:
When I go to adjust the bounding box, to see where my pattern is - this crazy mess happens:
Further investigation and deleting items to see whats happening:
Bits of my pattern appear, but not sure why the other bars are there.
I'm having this issue with four very different patterns. But I have also succesfully created more complicated ones. Not sure why this is happening.
    Any help is greatly appreciated!

    Hey everyone,
I am in the same version, same file. I have also tried starting from scratch in another file just to make sure. Same issue.
I have templates of what i want my patterns to be, so I have tried to make the patterns both ways. Starting from my original art - expanding all shapes and making them so they will tile perfectly.
    1. with clipping mask. 2. released mask, and expanded shape. 3. perfect tile.
from scratch, made to tile perfectly.
    Same issue for both:
To make sure it wasn't only this one I tried a different pattern that was giving me the same error before hand.
I tried with original art which didn't work, so I quickly recreated with squares. Same tile, one time it was empty producing same issue as above. And second time it did this:
    1. What tile is supposed to look like       2. Tile applied to shape - but the pattern swatch icon is empty?
Maybe this is a program bug?

  • Clipping Mask issues

I'm trying to create a clipping mask with a few things i made in autocad and brought into illustrator (copy/pasted or done as an eps, same results).
the bottom layer is a pattern i created, again, in autocad and live paint bucketed to give it color.
the top layer is a shape i created in autocad. and my shape, it's really just a bunch of lines.
ctrl+7, and it all just disappears. i know it's not the bottom layer, i've already clip masked with that pattern with numbers.
the only thing i can think of is that illustrator isn't as precise as autocad and the place where two lines come together to make a point, well they actually don't in illustrator.
any tips/tricks i should know to solve my issue? i can send the .ai file to whoever if they think they have the magic touch.

    Adam,
Who can clip with a bunch of lines, even after grouping them?
What happens if you join the lines into a closed shape and Ctrl+7?

  • [CS4] Clipping Mask issue (bug?) - Beachball when I try to select masked group

I have a somewhat complex compound path (1400 points) that I've duplicated several times and clipped. I want to make a second copy of this clipped set of objects. When I try to select the group that contains the clipping mask (with the selection tool or in the layers palette) illustrator chugs for over a minute. Once it's done chugging and I have my group selected I hit copy and paste. It chugs for another minute and then does nothing but deselect my group.
I saved the file down into CS3 format and opened it in CS3. I have no trouble with copy, paste, select, scale, or anything when I'm in CS3 - no slowdown at all. I saved the file in CS3 and opened the CS3 format file in CS4 and I still have the beachball/chug problem.
I'd like to note that the trouble begins only when I apply the clipping mask. I can select all those objects and copy/paste/rotate/scale/whatever until I apply a mask and then I can't do anything to them. The clipping mask itself is rather simple - only 26 points.
I'm on a G5 with 8gigs of RAM and over 30gigs of available space in my scratch disc. Any advice or any other users who've had this problem?

No that is not true and you know CS 3 does not come close to CS4 in performance and if I were you I would download the trial, although I have feeling you do not have the resources to to actually run the program and that has you quite miffed,
Perhaps the next release will finally release you, so long!
Tracy I found that there s a setting that is on by default in CS 4 that would make things go a bit slow and always has if selected by the user.
Clearly a mistake I would think but for some reason the default settings for the raster effects is 300 ppi as opposed to 72 ppi which really many times will eat up the memory no matter how much you have, and Illustrator can only use a limited amount of RAM something like 2GB, so that the amount of RAM is not the issue and the scratch could be as wide open as possible but it still will choke.
It may not have the resource to as in your case make a review. So I would try setting the document raster image effects setting to 72 ppi and then when outputting it change it to 300ppi or tell the printer to do so.
Hans I am sure you will now be relieved to find out that CS4 is behaving as it should with the right setting.
Enjoy the trial it is free. You are going to love CS 4.
I am mistaken Tracy and Hans CS 3 also has the default setting at 300 ppi I should have checked first.
Yes Hans this might be an issue that is a strike against CS4 on large complex projects
I am certain it was good idea to change the clipping path behavior. The question is how big or complex does the file have to be before this happens.
Hans you should still try the trial and see for yourself. Of course if you don't have the resources it might be difficult to load the trial.
I would still try changing the setting to 722 ppi and changing it for output after the work has been completed.
Yes I think you found and important bug.

  • Layer Mask issues cc 2014

So recently I installed CC 2014 and just two days ago the layer mask stopped allowing me to draw into the mask. I can lasso in the mask. I can switch to white and edit the mask with the brush. I can use erase and edit the mask. But I can't draw into the mask. This is HUGE problem in my workflow. Any suggestions to trouble shoot this would be great! Has anyone else encountered this? Is there an update that addresses this bug? Thanks!

It was set to normal. I read a response to a similar problem and a user had it set to dissolve. So I checked it just in case. It wasn't. Then I started having the same issue on a regular layer...So I grabbed my backup Cintiq pen to see if it was a Cintiq issue ( I have an older 21). It happened with that pen, as well. Then I opened the file in CS4 and everything is working fine....it limits me to the brushes I created in CS4 though. The long term issue of CC2014 will have to be resolved, because this seems like a bug. It's been working fine for a week and half until yesterday...

  • CS6 actions batch saving images to a clipping mask issue

    Hey all,
Been at this for quite some while now and searched the www thin for suggestion - so really hope someone can help me out here.
    Objective:
    - Target a folder with xxx .gif patterns (in the same size)
    - Setup actions to batch open each image from the folder, copy the pattern image individually over to a .PSD file that have a silhouette of the sleeve.
    - Apply the individual pattern to the clipping mask
    - Save it out as .png
    Issue:
So far ive only had the automate > batch process to save out one .png with the pattern correctly applied to the silhouette.
What I experince is that, if I close down everything and initiate automate > batch process then Photoshop will complain about not being able to locate the clipping mask.
In my action setup I first open my .psd containing my sleeve shape, then open an actual pattern image and then all other steps ending up with saving the .psd with pattern clipping mask to .png.
Just to give a simple idea about my setup take a look here:
    http://i.imgur.com/FE8mSEU.png
In this one below, ive closed everything and run the automate > batch process, which gives me the error you can see here:
    http://i.imgur.com/7Cvj26D.png
Any suggestions on what I could be doing wrong OR if I am doing anything wrong?

    Hi Mack,
Thanks a lot for your throughout response - really appreciate it!
I do acknowledge that im new to batch in Photoshop and could possibly why this is not working for me - although in not quite sure why and what I would need to make as a programmed script - would you by any chance try to give me an idea on what specific step needs to be programmed?
My actions are very few and quite simple, and seemed to fit in very nicely in how ive understood the actions feature would work - in any case of not being precise enough here's my exact steps.
    1. I open up Photoshop - No documents or anything are open at current point. I click "Record" in actions
    2. I open my sleeve_layer.PSD  file (which opens up in a tab) -> File -> Open -> PSD
    3. I open one of the pattern .gif files (which opens up in a tab) - which are all located in the same folder with the same size -> File -> Open -> .gif
    4. In my pattern tab window (from nr 3) I select all (ctrl-a) -> copy (ctrl-c)
    5. I then click over to my sleeve_layer.PSD window tab and paste (ctrl-v) my copied pattern image into a layer above my sleeve layer.
    6. I then right-click with my mouse on the pattern.gif layer -> click "Create clipping mask" (the pattern is now only shown within the sleeve layer shape)
    7. I save the work done in the .psd to web -> File -> Save for web -> .png
    8. I then close my sleeve_layer.PSD - without saving it (since I dont want to have clipping masks for each pattern stacking up from the batch)
    9. Recording ends
If I now run the batch all actions are done fine until it reaches the action with the clipping mask - where I get "The command "Create clipping mask" is not currently available" - I can see that when this error appears, im not seeing any open sleeve_layer.PSD tab - so not sure if the psd file is actually getting opened (and this might be the error for the reference error of the clipping mask to appear).
If I try to manually RUN the actions set in the actions panel, I notice though that the sleeve_layer.PSD tab is getting opened.
When running automate -> batch -> I point "source" to my folder of all patterns (only .gif files appear in this folder)
"Destination" folder is set to some other folder.

  • Strange masking issue in Flash CC - Help, urgent

I am working on a freelance job for a client that is due in the morning.  I've wasted several hours trying to figure out what is going on.  Here is my predicament:
I have a layer with four masks, as follows -
    Text
    -- Clip 1
    -- Clip 2
    -- Clip 3
    -- Clip 4
In the document, the clipping works perfectly fine up until frame 153.  I did the exact same thing as I did with the previous animation, just with different shapes and timing - and it somehow does not work.  It also does not work with the clipping done at frame 235.
Now here is the amazing part: once I publish the flash, NONE of the masking works, and instead solid blue boxes show up that DON'T EVEN EXIST in my .fla document!  They appear to be the bounding boxes of my movie clips, which makes NO SENSE at all.
I've tried everything I could think.  The worst part is that I have been using Flash CS2, CS3, and CS4 for several years and have never run into any issues using masking.
Please help me if you can, this is very urgent and I may lose the entire project if I can't solve this problem.  I'll be checking back frequently....

    Thank you for your help.
EDIT: For completion, here are my system's details:
    OS: Windows 7 64-bit
    RAM: 3 GB
    CPU: 2.3 ghz
    Graphics: AMD M880G

    Hi Jostrom,
Thanks for reporting this. We were able to narrow down this issue and has already been logged internally under bug #3585950.
We shall update once this is investigated and gets fixed.

  • Advanced opacity mask issue in illustrator?

Occasionally I find that when I option click on my opacity mask in illustrator, although it enters the opacity mask editing mode and I can highlight the paths etc, I cannot see a preview of the opacity mask or view in key line mode. I am still stuck seeing my artwork. This is very frustrating and have to edit the opacity mask almost blind, using just the preview of the layers in the opacity mask sub layers. It does this in CS5 through to CC and I cannot find a solution. It's driving me crazy.
Is there an solution? And low behold I thought I would take a screen grab to show the problem and now its working after working blind for a good hour!
If anyone else has experienced this problem it would be good to know. If it does it again I'll take a screen grab.
    Message was edited by: MINI_MO

I use this feature and have never had the issue you describe. I HAVE been known to accidentally hold down the wrong key when clicking the Mask Thumbnail. Not sure what a screen grab would show, since there is no way of validating which key is being held.

  • Create Footprint with custom pad has solder mask issue

    Ultiboard 12 (12.0.653)
When I create a new footprint with normal pads, everything works fine. When I add a custom pad to the footprint or make the footprint with all custom pads, the solder mask does not work correctly.
The attached photo of the Footprint edit mode pad 1.jpg shows 16 standard pads along with three custom pads. The solder mask layer is turned on along with the Copper top layer. All pins should be the same light color. The custom pads are purple. (When you first create the footprint they are green instead of purple).
When a part is placed on the board there is a solder mask shown for all pins like pad2.jpg. If you turn off the solder mask layer the normal pins appear green but the custom pins disappear as shown in pad 3.jpg.
To get around this problem I edited the part in the data base by turning off the soldermask check box for each custom pad pin, then manually created a mask on the solder mask layer for each custom pin.
These custom pads are new pads just created and old custom pads known to work in previous ultiboard versions.
I didn't see any similar messages in the forum. Is this a known issue?

    Hi Michael,
I was able to replicate this problem, Ultiboard doesn't want to place solder mask on the bottom layer and on top solder mask, and you have to play around with the pad settings to turn on the solder mask.  I will let the developers know about this problem. To work around this issue, you can do following:
    1.  Make the solder top or bottom the active layer in the Design Toolbox and then select Place>>Graphics, manually draw the soldermask over your custom pad.
    2.  If your custom pad is an odd shape and you don't want to redraw it, you can create a component with only one custom pad.  Save the component and then place the component on the work area by itself. Next select File>>Export>>DXF, export just the copper top layer.  Now, create your component and before exiting Footprint Edit mode, select File>>Import>>DXF, merge the DXF you generated to the solder mask top and bottom. When you imported the DXF file, there may be several independent objects and you can’t move them together.  In this case, create a window around the DXF data you just imported and then select Edit>>Group Selection to group the DXF data as one object now you can move everything at the same time.

  • Clipping mask issue.. simple one but I can't see it.

I want to fill the pattern into the shield.
Tried everything on this, it's so simple that I can not even see it.
Maybe it's the double lines on outline view?
Please help. Multi million dollar idea going to waste.

    Kanokane,
I tried to just give a detailed list of things to do, with no explanation.
Fundamentally, you use a single path (which may be a Compound Path) as the Clipping Path of the Clipping Mask, and you select both that and whatever you have beneath it that you wish to clip.
When you apply the Clipping Mask, everything covered by the Clipping Path remains visible, and everything else becomes invisible; and the Clipping Path also becomes invisible, losing its Stroke and/or Fill (Fill in this case).
So when your shield is a rather thin Compound Path formed by the outer and the inner path, only the parts between those become visible, instead of filling the space inside.
    1) is meant to keep the visible black outline formed by the Compound Path on top of everything else, and to bring a copy of either the outer or the inner path down beneath it; this is to serve as the Clipping Path; Alt/OptionClicking is to select the whole path, not just an Anchor Point or a segment.
    2) is meant to bring the pattern down beneath the Clipping Path.
    3) is meant to preserve the visible black outline formed by the Compound Path (by locking it) and to select the Clipping Path and the pattern (when the Compound Path is locked, you can just ClickDrag over everything and avoid selecting it), then apply the Clipping Mask.
    4) is meant to have everything as a Group (consisting of the Compound Path and the Clipping Mask).
Whether you use the inner or outer path as the Clipping Path matters little; in the former case only the space inside the black rim is visible, in the latter case, the outermost part of it is hidden be the rim.

  • Layer Masking Issue

I recently purchased the Abode Creative Suite 6 Design & Web Premium. I am pretty familar with Photoshop in general, and masking also. But I am having a problem with them now. After applying the layer mask when I use black to take away what I want it looks as if I had the opacity turned down and it does not erase it 100%. I am struggling to figure out what is wrong, I have tried many options, such as opacity settings, blend modes, etc.
I have attached two test photos to show what is wrong, one is un edited, and the other has a mask applied.
    Thanks for your help!

One can change the foreground color inadvertently when applying Adjustments for example.
To make sure that one does indeed work with black and white when editing Layer Masks it can be useful to occassionally hit D to reset the fore- and background color.

  • Layer Mask Issue, please help.

    Hi,
My layer mask is not working, not sure what's happening. I'm using CS 4 . i want to use blending effect so i place the photos on a white background. I click layer mask on each photo, select brush tool brush on the photo but is not working, is either appear black or white color when i use the brush paint on it. If not wrong, the foreground color should be grey & white in layer mask function but it appear black & white instead. Please see the screenshot below. Please help, thank you

Hi, I will try explain your problem.
In your posted example we can see see that you have three layers in the layers panel.
On each one of layers, we can see, on the left side, that there is the Layer Thumbnail, that is a showing the actual image of your layer and then a Layer Mask Thumbnail (the white rectangle, on the right side).
A layer mask works as follows: you tell Photoshop to display or hide actual parts (pixels) of the layer with greyscale values. A white pixel on the layer masks tells Photoshop to show the image area at full opacity (non-transparent), while a black pixel on the layer mask tells Photoshop to hide the layer totally (0% of opacity.) Gray values will therefore show the image data partially.
But you are painting on the document, and you need to indicate Photoshop whether you want to paint on the image (what you did in your example, and you do not desire) or if you want to paint on the layer mask (what you want to do). This indication is called Targeting. It is done simply by clicking either on the Layer thumbnail, or on the Layer mask thumbnail of your layer. (Clicking different areas of a layer in the layer palette are different orders you give to the program). For instance, if you want to switch the layer you are hiding to another one, in order to paint on its mask, make sure to click on the layer mask thumbnail of the other layer in the Layers Panel.
In Photoshop CS5.5 and earlier, you will see that a layer or its mask is targeted because there will be three outlines around it: a black, a white and a black one again, like the actual layer data in the highlighted layer 0928 of your image. You should see those three outlines around the layer mask in order to paint on it.
In CS6, the target indicator is different, look in my image, we can see that the layer mask is targeted thanks to the white corners: I was then able to mask part of the black layer by targeting the Layer Mask in the layer panel, and then painting on the image where I want to hide the layer.
If you want to modify the actual layer (the photos, in your case), simply click on its thumbnail, and you are good to go!
    Hope this helps.
