  • Can a masking layer have more than one mask?

I have a mask layer with a rectangular mask in it.
Inder this layer I and a nasked layer with an object to be
    masked on it
    This works fine
When I all another object to be masked in thesame layer and
    relevant mask in
the same masking layer the sacond object does not show up at
    all.
Does this mean that the masking layer can only have one mask?

One mask per layer, tho the mask could be made of movie clip
    which could
    have a mask within.

  • Mask Layer not working in cropping to stage Flash

I've read through umpteen Flash threads of frustrated users who export SWF and anything visible outside the stage appears in the SWF when opened in a browser.  None of the solutions have worked for me.  My file is called statement_onlineheader.fla.  It can be seen here http://www.mediafire.com/?yrmgnoynihw.  Anyone know why this does not work for me?
I have my mask layer above a folder containing all other layers.  I have also tried moving the mask layer above individual layers.  Same result.  Stuff outside the stage appears in the exported SWF.

Very true.  So what do you think is wrong with my file?  The top layer is marked "Mask" when I control-click it, and it doesn't matter if I put it over an individual layer or not.  The top layer is a rectangle the size of the stage, yet this layer (which is checked as a mask) does not mask what is below it.

  • Mask layer not in Layers tab

I have sent a video clips from my FCP timeline to Motion and added a Circle Mask to it. But somehow my hand slipped and I hit a key.... because now I do not see the mask layer in the Layers tab. And I need to attach a Match Move behavior to it.
I can see that the mask is still there (it is present on the Timeline).
What did I do to seemingly toggle off its presence in the Layers tab?
    Thanks

    sure enough...
    Thanks.

  • Mask layer not visible in layers palete

I have a strange problem, when I apply any kind of mask to a layer in motion 3, the mask icon shows up on the layer to which it was applied in the layers palette, but the mask layer does not show up underneath the layer to which it was applied, thus i can't select the mask to adjust the controls of the mask, I can only toggle it on and off,
I would assume this is a simple user error, but for the life of me I can't find a "show mask layer" setting anywhere,
any insight on this problem would be hugely appreciated.

the disclosure triangle for the entire group is twiddled, showing my layers and any added effects, but for some reason the only thing that shows the presence of a mask is the small square icon on the video layer, but as there is not layer beneath the video layer to click on to adjust mask controls... i have been watching m3 tutorials and the mask always creates a layer in the palette when activated, but for some reason it's not with mine...

  • Trouble using mask layer?

I have trouble using the mask layer.  It doesn't seem to be blocking out extra grid marks. I am doing something wrong?  Thanks
    SIDENOTE:
The grid was imported from illustator into flash.  It causing flash cs5 to be extremely buggy.  The layer I import itself relabel itself, it either "1" or "2"  The grid layer when I place it on lock, doesn't lock!   The grid will also cut and paste itself onto a new layer, automatically sometimes.

It would easier if you use the brush tool to paint on the layer mask.
Paint with black to reveal the color and white to hide the color of the layer below.
You can use the X key to switch between black and white as the foreground color in the tool box.

  • Photoshop Mask Layer, see through multiple layers.

    Dear All -
I am a new learner to Photoshop and working on Layers and Layer Mask to obtain see through multiple Layers effect.
Below is the description of my problem that I am looking forward towards resolution in this forum. I will be glad if some expert can guide me on this.
I have three layers of different colors as below.
Layer 1topmost layer) with Red color filled rectangle.
Layer 2(below Layer 1) with Green color filled rectangle.
Layer 3(bottom most layer, below Layer 2) with Blue color filled rectangle.
When I erase something with brush on Layer 1 using masking Layer 1, it hollows the erased part and start showing the Green color of Layer 2 in hollow section of Layer 1.
What I want to achieve is that, when I erase Layer 1 using layer mask, then it should hollow Layer 1 as well as Layer 2 and should show Blue color in the hollow section of Layer 1.
i.e: Hollow section made on Layer 1(using Layer Mask on Layer 1) should also be applied on Layer 2 so that Layer 1 and Layer 2 becomes hollow using eraser and I should see through Layer 1 and Layer 2 and Blue color of Layer 3 should be visible from the hollow section.
Though I can do this by Flattening Layer 1 and Layer 2 together so that it forms one single Image, and then when I hollow this Flattened image using Layer Mask, then it will show me Blue color. But I do not want to do this, as I would lose the flexibility to unhollow/recover the hollow region on both Layer 1 and Layer 2 independently in the future.
    Thank You,
    Saurabh Khanna.

Here's a sample of copying the layer mask onto layer 2 using a hard cutout.
Here's the same thing using a soft feather cutout.

  • For some reason the masking layer is not working in my CS6. I know I have all the settings correct!

For some reason the masking layer is not working in my CS6. I know have everything set correctly! Please help.

Hard to guess on this type of question at you are not offering any tip on what you are doing.  A screen shot might help to see how you have things set.

  • How do I hide the mask layer when exporting as animated GIF ?

    Hi,
I have designed the following logo for my football team's website.
It plays fine as a flash file but when I export it as an animated GIF file, it shows the bright pink mask layer. Obviously I don't want it to. Has anybody an idea of how to rectify this problem ?
    Thanks,
    Phil

    Peter,
Success! I finally got my head round it Indeed, I can see now your point about the export method being preferable, it's also much quicker than my old "print PDF" method! Like I say, publishing isn't my area of expertise and I get comfortable and set in my ways with certain ways of doing things, especially with computers!
    Bob,
Like I was saying to Peter, that makes sense now. I guess my not appreciating the process of PDF creation and thus my incorrect use of the terminology may have confused the issue. With regards the link you sent me, wow it certainly seems I'm not the only one who gets confused! Fortunately it seems my problem is now solved and I have learned to produce a better product!
    Thanks again guys!
....now I wonder how I can make my dissertation interactive....

  • Does use of mask layer require re-estab of functions

Am I missing something/doing something wrong, or is this the
    way Flash works?
I have 2 buttons in a movieclip which is on the main
timeline. The buttons are on a layer with a mask layer above it. On
the main timeline I define 2 functions
    clip_mc.button1_btn.onRelease = function()... and
clip_mc.button2_btn.onRelease = function().... The movie clip has 2
frames. Frame 1 has button2_btn masked out (i.e. not visible).
Frame 2 has BOTH buttons visible.
When I click on button1_btn the function says to gotoAndStop
at frame 2 of the movieclip. Now button 1 .onRelease no longer
works AND button2 .onRelease also does not work. I scratched my
head about this a long time, did a pile of trace statements and
couldn't figure out why. Then I put my 2 buttonN_btn.onRelease
functions inside a function called initButtons(). Now after I
gotoAndStop at frame 2, I call the initButtons() function again and
the buttons work. This makes me wonder if this is really right, or
if I am doing something wrong with the mask layer.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you again for your prompt and helpful reply. Indeed,
when I delete the mask layer, I do NOT need to reinit the button
functions. I understand your solution too. So I guess it's just a
matter of preference, unless you think one would perform the best.
WRT my bumbling around. I VERY much appreciate the
willingness to help and infinite patience of the experts on this
forum, so I try to keep any whining and frustration to a minimum.
However, I am an old mTropolis user, and I miss many aspects of
that product soooo much. Flash seems way more difficult than that.
Though I've been at it for some months now, and have purchased and
read cover to cover both Moock books and try to read all the help
over and over, I'm still having a very hard time adjusting and
thinking in the Flash way, not to mention these little bumps in the
road like this one. Maybe I'm just a slow learner. One of my
biggest lingering issues is how to architect larger projects. I am
trying as much as possible to do things using Classes and good OO
design principles. Do you have any articles or books you would
recommend that might help with that?
    Thanks again.

  • Moving mask layer also moves layer underneath

Ref: Lynda course http://www.lynda.com/home/DisplayCourse.aspx?lpk2=55426 Last item in Chapter 2, "Pasting into Layer Mask" demonstrates that after pasting the layer mask (sketch of a tree) onto another layer, you can then move it into place with the "move" tool. While following along, when I tried to move it, it also cut out and moved the layer that I pasted the tree onto. I noticed that the "move" tool has a pair of scissors attached to it that I can't get rid of. I figure that's the culprit. What am I **** wrong? I have the mask layer selected in the layers panel and doing everything as in the tutorial. I repeated the tutorial 3 times with the same result.
    I have CS4 Windows.
The files "drawing" and "sketch" are the lesson images. The objective is to make a layer mask out of the tree sketch and to place it onto the "paper" layer and then moving it into place as if the hand is doing the sketching.  "layer cut out.PSD" is my result. You can see part of the drawing pad is cut out

I got it! (I think) I did not have to deselect anything. I can move it as long as I click on the unselected part of the layer mask AND the chain unlinked. The tutorial did it with chain linked and moving from within the selected area of the mask (tree). Maybe her workspace was set up differently but I set mine up according to her directions as well. Lynda.com will have to explain that one, but I'm happy as long as I was able to do it. By the way, those tutorials on Lynda are great for the most part and definitely worth the money. I just wish I had more time to sit through them all.
I know you guys are way beyond this petty stuff, but if I get stuck here I'm in trouble. Thanks.

  • No mask layer in the layers or project panel

I've been taking a tutorial on Motion5 and we created a B-spline mask and once I clicked off the mask to another layer, the mask does not show up in the lawyers or project panel. The same thing just happened in the keyed lesson. Once I click off the key, I can no longer make any adjustments or even find the key layer.

The mask icon is not on. In the layers window, at the bottom right there are 3 icons, masks, behaviors, and filters. By default the mask icon is off. Just click it on to see the mask layer.

  • New Layer on top of a Mask Layer causes problems

I have a mask layer that shows/loads an imported flv inside of it.
the masked layer has a blank keyframe with the following code in it.......
    var myLoader:Loader = new Loader();
    addChild(myLoader);
    var url:URLRequest = new URLRequest("mymovie.swf");
    myLoader.load(url);
What happens is when i add a new layer to my main flash movie, right above the mask layer, it messes up the movie. Instead of it loading in the mask, it loads on top of everything. Why does this occur?

I created an empty movie clip and placed my two mask layers and it worked fine.
    Thanks!

  • Problem when pre-composing masked layer

Ok, i am having a problem when masking a Twixtored layer.
    this is what happens:
i have the original footage in a comp, i used twixtor to slow it down to 3% speed
    Seen here: http://prntscr.com/zbicc
I Then pre composed that slowed down layer into a comp of it's own and masked around that parts i wanted and named this comp "masked comp 1"
    Seen here: http://prntscr.com/zbitw
    and here: http://prntscr.com/zbiyc
i then precomposed the masked layer into another comp called "sky replacement" and this is when i hit the problem, it dosn't show up, it just gives me a black screen.
    Seen here: http://prntscr.com/zbj9n
    and here: http://prntscr.com/zbjcn
I tried rendering out "Masked comp 1" and "sky replacement" and with both it just renders a black screen, but if i render the Twixtored comp that renders fine. So i think it has somthing to do with the mask but i can't figure it out.
    Please help.

The black screen notwithstanding, I see two VERY big problems in the workflow as described... or at least as how I understand your workflow.
You used Twixtor to slow down video to 3% of its normal speed:  that represents tons and tons of speed redeuction, and you're lucky that Twixtor was able to give you a useful image AT ALL.  Then you precomped it, too boot.
Then you hoped against all hope that you could effectively mask the precomp... which was presumably at the target frame rate.
Give yourself a fighting chance to come up with something:  once you use Twxtor, prerender it.  And I have to tell you: if you are actually using Twixtor to slow down footage to 3% of normal speed, it probably won't look good.  Twixtor is great for minor speed variations, but for 3% of normal?  It can't work miracles......

  • How to use a clipping mask layer to a multiple base layers?

Is it possible to use one layer as a clipping mask to a 5 different bottom layers.
What I'm trying to do is apply an adjustment layer to certain layers only. Is that possible?

    Zpan wrote:

not that I would know, but what you can do instead is group those 5 layers (CTRL+G), add the adjustment layer as the topmost layer in the group and set the group's blending mode to "normal". The adustment layer is then only applied to the layers within the same group.
