Mask overlay color

Good morning:
The mask overlay colors have gone from a strong luminance to a soft pastel. The colors are so light I can hardly see them. Please advise how I can get the strong colors back on the mask overlay.

It appears that my brush was somehow changed from "A" to "B". You were right in that the flow slider was way down on the "B" option. I really appreciate the information since I didn't have a clue what had happened.

Because it was not possible to apply a gradient to a stroke in CS5. When you open the file in CS5, it is reduced to something that can be rendered in CS5.

Include mask overlay with Auto Import preset.

It would be nice to automatically show an overlay mask in the picture as you Auto Import it via the Watched folder.
Most of the digital back software have this mask overlay posssibility.
All it does is it obscures the area you don't want to see (a bit like the crop tool, with adjustable black opacities, but without actually cropping the image).
The reasoning behind this is that you often need to take pictures with plenty of surrounding space in your layout, for instance, blank space to the right of left of the image for putting text, or to allow for multiple output formats, but at the time of viewing, you just want to concentrate on the masked area, free from distractions.
Art directors are always asking for this: "What would it look like when it's cropped?" You can go to the crop tool and show them, but it would be better and quicker to have an auto import overlay mask which you can flick on and off.

Sounds like another use for TPI's. Transparent PNG Images (Id Plates) that only have limited use and one at a time, now. Currently only usable in Slideshow and Print.

Trouble with advanced overlay colors

I'm creating some buttons in photoshop that require advanced overlay colors. For some reason I cant get dvdsp to respond to anything other than black or white as a highlight. I have the grey settings right as far as I can tell ( 66%, 33%, or 168, 168, 168- 84, 84, 84) but I just dont have any seperate control over those areas in the button. The best I've gotten is out of a solid gray triangle, I can get the slightest impression of it when I set that gray to 15 opacity and a bright color.
any ideas?

I'm not trying to make a layered menu. In fact, really I'm not even trying to make a menu with an overlay, although maybe that is the only way to achieve what I'm trying (which may not really be worth it at this point, but I'm trying to figure out exactly how it works).
Maybe I've made incorrect assumptions about how to work with buttons, highlights and overlays. Hopefully someone can set me straight.
When you make a custom button, it is a 4 layer psd. The highlight layer's black content becomes the highlight of the button and you can adjust the highlights appearance using the sliders in the inspector when set to "simple overlay colors". Logically, and with the sort of obtuse explanation in the manual, I'm under the impression that I could switch to advanced overlay colors, take that highlight layer, make it a grayscale image and manipulate the various tones individually. Am I wrong to think this? Is the only proper way to do this by setting an overlay on the entire menu?

Moving mask overlay created by adjustment brush?

Frequently, when working on a series of very similar images, it would be very useful to use the local adjustment brush on first image in the series, and then copy/paste or sync the local adjustment with subsequent images. The problem is that the subsequent images, although nearly identical, are frame-shifted and the mask overlay does not line-up correctly. For example, if the local adjustment brush is used to edit the eyes of an individual, the framing of subsequent images may vary slightly such the mask overly created for the first image in the series no longer aligns with the eyes in subsequent images. If it were possible to simply move the mask overlay without having to recreate the mask for every image it would be a great time saver. Is this possible??

Password Masking & Background Color for Multiple Rows in Tabular Form

Hi all,
I have a requirement of making a column in Tabular form, having multiple rows, masked(password field). I also want to give bg color to this field indicating that its a mandatory field.
I am unable to accomplish both at a time in my page. I am using Apex 3.2.

APEX_ITEM API doesnot have a password function, but input fields of type password are available in HTML.
So you would have to change the field type to password in JS
That is from :
<input type="text" ...change it to
<input type="password" ...If you were using jQuery it would have been simpler, but to do it in native JS it is a bit more hard work.
Anyway here goes (a quick check in a tabular form seens to work fine)

Activated overlays color won't show in menus

I am using DVDSP4, I have 5 menus, the first is a video background, the others are jpegs. In the main (video) menu, i have three buttons with simple underlines as the overlays. When they are in selected mode...they are white...then if you activate one of them..they turn red, then you are taken to one of 2 video tracks...or a sub menu. When you are in the other 4 sub menus...the underlines are white when in select mode (just like the main menu)..but when you activate one of them, rather than turn red and go one of the chapters in the video track...the underline just disappears, then you go to the video track....I am trying to make it turn red (the activated color it is set at) before you are taken to the video chapter. Any thoughts?

Seemed to work just fine when I tested the code (with my .swf). Tested in Chrome, FF, IE, Safari.
Does your Chrome have the Flash plugin?

How to overlay color image over a grayscale image without IMAQ?

I would like to display a color image over a grayscale image; I would like the color image look translucent. How would I do this without using IMAQ functions? I am currently displaying my grayscale image using Intensity Graph.

Transparency and overlays are really just arithmetic on the images. It
is either done by the windowing system or by you. At the moment you
can't set transparency on LV controls. You can set it on LV floating
windows on some OSes, but then you will need to have the windows lined up.
A more direct approach is to lighten or darken the color image elements
based upon whether they will display over white, black, or a shade of
gray. If the images don't have the same size pixels, this will have a
first step of resampling th
e images so they do. Then combine the pixels
using the transparency you were going to apply to the color and the
shade of gray beneath it. I'm being vague here because there are lots
of physical models for combining colors.
If I look in my paint program I see about fifteen, so this is where you
get to make a choice and decide if black behind a red pixel is black, or
dark red. It all depends on whether these are two transparent
images(acetate sheets) backlit, or is it a transparency over a
nontransmitting media like paper. Anyway, if you can be more specific
about what you want, none of this is hard, typically just scaling the
int32s, adding, and some sort of normalization.

Bug report: [layer mask] editing colors

Sometimes it appears that the white/black color combination that is automatically selected in layer mask editing may override the selected color combination outside of layer mask editing.
Example:
1) Open Photoshop.
2) Select two colors: white/white.
3) Create two blank documents, each with an empty Layer 1.
4) In one document, add a layer mask to Layer 1. The colors should have been automatically switched to black/white as the layer mask is selected.
5) In this document, use the gradient tool to fill the layer mask with black/white.
6) Switch to the other document, and notice that the color selection is again white/white.
7) In this other document, use the gradient tool to fill Layer 1. Notice that the layer is filled with black/white instead of white/white as selected.
Tested on: PS CS6, Windows 7, 64-bit.

On further testing I think the issue may not be directly related to layer masks at all.
Basically the issue is that the Gradient tool colors don't update to the 'default foreground/background colors' in cases where it seems that they should.
One example of such a case (as illustrated in the original post) is when the Gradient tool keeps the black/white color combo used for a layer mask in a previous document after switching to the current document where a non-masked layer is targeted and the default fg/bg colors have correctly reverted to white/white.
Example:
layer mask targeted in doc1 - notice synchronised Gradient and default fg/bg colors
after switching to non-masked layer in doc2, Gradient is still black/white although default fg/bg colors have reverted appropriately to white/white
Bug or not, it's something I wanted to point out as it seems inconsistent.

Reverse overlay color shift problems

I've searched the discussion boards and read numerous threads on this, however nothing seems to specifically address the issue I'm having. As a lot of other people have mentioned in other threads, when you use the reverse overlay method described by Hal at, http://www.editorsbin.com/apple/dvdsp/tutorials/mask_overlay/ , some of the overlay buttons aren't accurate. They look perfect in simulator, but the builds played through DVD Player, or burned discs played on set top boxes seem to vary.

I'd also be willing to change the very light grayscale background to completely white if that would help. Its practically all white as it is. Any help on this issue is appreciated. By the way, I've also read the article on setting the color profile of my G5 to Generic RGB and that still doesn't help. Thanks in advance!

Layer mask alters Colors

If I
Start a new Photoshop-File in RGB-Mode
Create a new layer and fill it with RGB = (8,8,8)
Add a Mask
Copy the (8,8,8) Color (strg +a, strg +c), and paste it into the layer mask (alt + click, strg + v)
What I get is not a (8,8,8)-plain-color in the mask, but a dithered image with (7,7,7) and (9,9,9).
Can anyone explain this strange behaviour to me? Is it only a bug in my version (CS6 13.0.1)?

Considering this strange behaviour: How can i turn an image exactly into a layer Mask?

It's the way Photoshop works. Copying RGB then pasting into a single channel such as a mask or alpha channel will involve a conversion from document RGB profile to grayscale working space profile (as defined in Edit > Color Settings).
If a doc has sRGB profile and grayscale working space is sGray, or doc has Adobe RGB profile and grayscale working space is Gamma 2.2, then gray RGB values will copy and paste into a mask without change in value.
In any case, if you copy a single colour channel, say R, then that can be pasted into a mask and the values will not change.

How to inverse the effect of shape mask for color correction ?

To change the effect on a particular portion of the frame we use shape mask is there a way to keep the portion under the mask intact and change the color outside it ? For eg specially if the area to keep unchanged is in the middle of the frame.....?

At the bottom of the color board you have separate controls for inside and outside.

Losing Mask when color correcting

I am trying to isolate a certain color, so I applied a mask in Motion because I get a much better/easier mask there. I bring it back in to FCP and add color correction, no problem. But the second I try to limit the effect it is gone. It is like that makes the alpha go away or something. Any thoughts to why this is happening and any suggestions?

Ok, let me try this again.
On track one I have a clip that is black and white.
On track two I have the same clip that I have put a mask on in Motion. Which is over an object that I want to isolate the color which in this case is orange.
I add a color correction filter to clip 2, then I clip on the limit effect triangle in color correction and use the dropper to select the orange from my clip.
At the point the mask immediately disappears. That is about as clear as I can make it.
All I want to know is why this is happening and a possible work aroound. Color might be the be solution for this down the road, but would like to figure this problem out for now if possible.

I am using photoshop cs6 and following a web tutorial on making a business card. One step I can't figure out.
"Apply a linear gradient layer style to the warped shape. Use #841618 for the darker color in the gradient and #e82d33 for the lighter color. Once that’s done, use the Move Tool (V) to move the shape near the bottom of the canvas."
I am in the gradient overlay and I can pick what type of gradient and stuff. But I can not figure out how to change the lighter and darker color for the gradient overlay Maybe this tutorial is pre photoshp cs6?
