Masking a Donut

Hello,
I am trying to create a lower third in LiveType that incorporates the image of a donut. The donut
.gif image I am working with always appears with a box around it when I import the file into LiveType, so I decided to mask the image using Motion. I am a complete novice when it comes to working with Motion, and I'm new to video editing as well. What I am trying to achieve is a donut shape without any background at all. My donut image has two backgrounds. The background "around" the donut and the background comprising the "donut hole". My goal is to superimpose the donut over a band of color created as part of a lower third in LiveType so the band of color appears around the donut and within the donut hole. I guess I'm trying to make two masks on the same image.(?) Listed below is what I've tried so far:
New Motion File > NTSC DV > Move my donut.gif image into the Canvas window> Choose: Add Image Mask under the OBJECTS tab. > In the LAYERS tab I move the image mask icon above the donut.gif icon. >Magnify the image to 1600 so I can see it well > use the Bezier mask tool to draw a line around the object > once done the a mask is made > Export as a quick time file.
Any help anyone can give me would be greatly appreciated!

Load your donut image into Motion. Select it. Use the Bezier Mask tool (option-B) to draw around the outside of your donut. Select your donut image again. Option-B to activate the Bezier Mask tool again. Draw around the inside of the donut.
Nothing happened!
BUT... In the HUD or under the Inspector tab, change the Mask Blend Mode to Subtract and BINGO! A hole opens up in your donut.
Now export it as a Quicktime file. You should use the Animation, 8-bit Color + Alpha settings, which If I recall correctly, are the default.

Hello, i'm trying to export Illustrator cliping mask as PSD file, but when i import file into Photoshop i my cliping mask is not cropped, so it imports the borders of the rest of illustration artwork. I have a lot shapes like donut or "O" when i release mask i loosing the shape, and becose i working on map i have hudge number of shapes like this one it will take too long time spend to release all mask and prepare them with shape builder or patfinder each one. Is there any easyer way to export clipping mask to PSD from Illustrator with etitable separate layers? All i get is an image without cropped egdes when i export. I tryed diferend color mode and lots of stuff but somewhere i missing something...

Circle of life mask

I'm new to CS5, I've used Photoshop and CS but that was a few years ago. How can I create a "circle of life" project. Would it be a mask or something else? For those of you who don't know what the "circle of life" looks like imagine a large donut cut up like a pie and each piece has something different in it. Has anybody tried to solve this before?

One would probably create the circle shape by applying a group mask and then arranging and transforming the images inside the group... should not be too difficult.

Why I can't see my Brush Tool effects on my layer mask until I click on the Photoshop window one more time

I really donut why my Photoshop works like I said on title.
I cannot see see the Brush effects on my layer mask nor in my history panel until I click on somewhere else in Photoshop.
This problem really slow down my workflow.
Does any one know the reason and the solution of my problem here? Please let me know, thanks a lot.

Update your graphics driver/ turn off GPU usage in the performance prefs. You have an issue with hardware-based transparency handling most likely. Otherwise you could have an issue with your input device, but since you have not provided any system info, we can't really know anything.

Best way to make a clipping mask with indesign drawn vector shapes?

What is the best way to create a clipping mask with vector art that is drawn inside of indesign?
I have a group of vector shapes to paste into a rounded corner box. This art is grouped.
What i tried:
-create the rounded corner box i want the art inside
-cut art
-edit > paste-into
This worked, but i could not figure out how to move the artwork once it was pasted into the shape. With the direct select tool i could move the individual objects, but not the group of objects. Any ideas?
Is this the best way to acomplish what i'm trying to do?

Yopu don't mention the version of ID, which makes a difference here.
Paste Into is correct. In CS5 you can then use the content grabber donut to move the group inside the frame. In all versions you should be able to select the frame, tehn use Object > Select > Content to get the group, or use the button for that onthe Control Panel. Before CS5 you'll need to use the arrow keys or grab the center spot withthe mouse to move the group.

Multiple Exclusion Criteria[Exclusion Mask] in Sender File Adapter

Hello All,
I have a requirement to specify multiple exclusion criteria in the 'Exclusion Mask' property of a Sender File Adapter, i.e. I need to pick up files that correspond to 111*.txt from a specified source directory, but I would also want to exclude specific individual files that go by the following names:-111ACC.txt, 111INV.txt & 111PUR.txt.
I have tried the following - Specified 111*.txt in the 'File Name' field and in the 'Exclusion Mask' field specified ACC, INV & PUR - the exclusion criteria separated by commas. But this does not seem to work. All the 111* files are getting picked up.
Have gone through a couple of weblogs that deal with exclusion masks, but they do not talk about multiple exclusion criteria.
Is there any other way I could accomplish this?

Try this config.
Give *.txt in filename. and Directory as <YourDir>
In exclusion mask give 111ACC.txt
Below this there will be a table. Add two Entries
Dont add anything to FilenameMask.
Directory ->FileNameMask--->ExclusionMask
<yourDir>->--->111INV.txt
<YourDir>->--->111PUR.txt
Try this and get back.

Is there any way to mask the name .. i mean if User issue a select statement in a customer table the real name should come like ' ABCXXXDEFXXCFXX'... Which is not the actual name?
e.g if Name: CHIEV SONG MEE
If user issue a statment select * from customers;
The Result Should come something Like this:

It is up to the architect/designer/developer to use this toolkit in creating a system that meets the specific requirements at hand.

What is the main difference between Create shapes or masks from text characters and why use one over the other, or when is one preferred over the other?
I am still fairly new to AE and am trying to better understand this, or can you point me to where i might look for the answer?

One creates masks, the other creates shape layers. There are properties that you can animate with shape layers that are not available to masks. There are also a few things you can do with masks that you can't with shape layers.
I'd suggest you take a look at the help files or do a Google Search on After Effects Shape Tutorials.

PL/SQL - Masking Parameters on URL with Form Post vs Get

I am inquiring about the PL/SQL functionality of passing focus from one procedure/function to another
via HTML web pages, using FORM ACTION="post" against "get".
I've successfully written a good bit of code using the "get" functionality, where the parameters are passed
on the URL, but security really wasn't an issue on that phase of the application. Now that it is, I'm researching
further on how to use the ACTION="post" to mask the parameters from the URL and not receive failures in the process.
I've seen multiple references in books showing the simple process of calling the procedure/function
which does not explicitly require parameters, and using the ACTION="post", but when doing so, it returns
the typical PL/SQL message that the page can not be found.
We are running 9i, but not running 9iAS. Is it necessary to have 9iAS in order to reap these benefits,
or is it not as simple as it's seems and I should just use Java Servlets/JSPs instead?

How do I use the adjustment brush to mask and not turn my item green?

I have shot some products for my web site. I need completely white backgrounds. I have tried to mask the product and lighten the whites, but when I click done, my product has turned very green.
Why? How do you use the brush? Also, where is the invert to make this easier on me?
Kind of urgent, I need to get these items on my site already.
I know the answer is simple... I just don't know what it is.

Have you tried without the adjustment brush, by simply adjusting white balance from the basic tab in develop?
Click on the eye dropper tool and then click on a neutral gray color. Use the background if it is neutral rather than white. You may need to keep selecting the eye dropper to click in a few different places for best results.
If you decide to use the adjustment brush you can show or hide the mask. Uncheck the mask when you have finished painting; then use the sliders, starting with tint and temperature.

Is there a way to use Premiere Pro CC's new mask tracking with a red circle around someone?

I know how to do the face blurring, but just wondering if there is a way to put a red circle around someone or something and track it using the new mask tracking on Premiere Pro CC?

Yes this is the fix. I was getting frustrated over this issue. I use Dreamweaver across two minitors and the palette locations were resetting back to the main monitior where the app was. This unchecking and a quick log out and back in fixes the issue. Thank you!

Text input mask

Hi All,
I want to add a mask to a text input field, so the user can only type numbers on it (integers, more specifically), I think that this is done by a Converter but it doesn't add the apropriate javascript.
How Can I do this? And if I want to mask to only floats?

are you talking about immediate input masking? as user types a phone number say xxx xxx xxxx, it'll automatically adds "-" in between? that, you would have to use javascript.
otherwise, create a custom converter and attach to your input box

convert user's phone number to yoru format.. othewise, generate a conversion error message

Number format mask of text item is not applied

I want to format a number like 999G999G999G999G990D00
Is specify the format mask under source of the item. But it is not applied and I don't understand why.

separator in most cases.I am using substitution strings for things like that. You can define some "global" substitution strings on page application definition.
So you just have to put in the format (999G999G999G999G990D00 ) in there once and give it a name. Let's say NUMBER_THOUSAND.
Afterwards you can reference it wherever you need the format e.g. this way:
to_char(10000,'&NUMBER_THOUSAND.').
This way you just have one place where to change the format model.

I have a new router and computer. I have just remembered that just before my old PC died on me, I transferred my iTunes library to a hard drive. I can't remember exactly just how I got my library back, but there are definately things in my library now that were in my library on my old PC! Hope this makes sense. What do you mean by same location? Do you mean in the same place in the house?
Another difference I have just thought of was my old router was connected directly to the computer bu I have not been able to do this with Sky as my PC is not near a phone socket! Will this make a difference?

Printing a graphic with a gradient mask in Flex 3-problem

Hello, I am fairly new to flex development. I am puting together a little program that allows the user to upload a picture add a vignette mask in order to achieve a soft edge, and have a problem I cannot find an answer anywhere, maybe someone could help me please.
I want to print a the user photo with a gradient mask or vignette from flex. I managed to show the image correctly on screeen with the gradient mask using this class but the output to paper is a rectangle without the soft mask.

It works beautifully until I try to print the graphic. The image prints but without the gradient edges (soft) instead it is just a sharp edge rectangle.
Does anyone know how to do this?

Hello, back on my issue, i tested a little bit more the message dispaching.
I read the lazyLoadPolicy class and noticed that it always has to have a ModuleId property in the message to work, that's why the broadcast message didn't work to awake the module with the lazy loading policy.
So i added copy of my module:

Set them both with a basicLoadPolicy, and tries to dispatch a message to only one of them using the ModuleId metatag. I then noticed that both modules received the message and not only the one i expected.
I then changed the ModuleMessageInterceptor configuration to dispatch to only one kind of module:
<cairngorm:ModuleMessageInterceptor type="{ OpenViewMessage }" moduleRef="test"/>
and this worked as expected. Only the first module catched the message. I am obiously messing with the ModuleId metatag but i cannot see what's wrong...
I compiled with
-keep-as3-metadata+=ModuleId
but this hasn't changed anything...
