Masking a video with shape

Is there a way to mask a movie so I am just showing a part of the screen within a shape. For example, I want to just show the middle portion of the video..almost like cropping.

the only way to do this in Keynote is to use a full slide sized image that has a hole cut in it. You then lay that over the video and it appears to mask the video. This isn't too hard to do if you can get to the background image of your slide. Take that into Photoshop, make a hole in it and export that as a png file. Then drop that on your slide and put your video behind it.

You can't. The shape will be behind the video. You probably discovered that.

Mask SHAPE with shape

I'm trying to mask a shape (a circle) with +another shape+ (a square) so that the circle ends up looking like a pie with a piece cut out of it. I can only seem to mask an image with a shape, and not a shape with a shape. how do I do this? thanks!

It is odd that shapes can't mask other shapes, but there is a very handy workaround technique called "Preview Passthru". Create the shape you want, then copy it. Next, open Preview, and in the File menu, choose "New from Clipboard". This will create a new Preview document with your shape. Save this document as a PDF file, and drag that file back into your Pages document. The shape should look the same, but it is now a PDF rather than a native iWork object, and so it can be masked (but it can't be edited).

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. You might try a method that Koeklin introduced to us for converting photos with reflections, drop shadows, etc. to a simple JPEG file that event the lowest IE can render correctly.
I created a tutorial on his method: #7 - Converting Photos w/Frames, Drop Shadows and/or Reflections into a Single JPG Image. It should also work for Mask with Shapes objects. It will also help "lighten" the page so it will load faster.

Lock mask, move video/image underneath?

Sorry if this is a dumb question. I want to mask a particular track with a circle and then move the content while the mask stays stationary. Right now when I try to move something, the mask moves with the image. Help!

You'll need to create a mask in Photoshop or alike, and put that one track higher than your footage.
Or you can use Video Generators > Shape > Circle and put that one track lower and then select Composite Mode > Travel Matte Luma on the footage that you want to mask.

How can I create a video with effects using my ipad?

How can I create a video with effects (sepia, B&W, Negative, oval or any other shape borders) using my ipad? I would Like to keep a higher res and also be able to shrink it down to email or send in a MMS. Or should I just upload it to my PC and mess with it there? Some of the apps I have are very easy to use compared to the learning curve needed for video editing software.

Thats the Problem . . . how many apps do I have to try until I find the one I want? I noticed a few will render the video thus losing its original size. When I went to edit it more in iMovie the video was smaller--not good. And what software do you suggest, Templeton, for the PC? I love the apps because they are easy. I dont have hours to mess around on a software to figure out if its something I want. Im looking for simplicity. Maybe Ill get more into it later. I just want to record simple video of my playing the guitar for self analysis and create a short video for family and friends.

CS3: Make mask using group with strokes, fills, multiple objects,etc

I am currently using CS3, and I have created 2 objects with gradient clipping masks on them, to go over a group (my logo). I am hoping to create a glass effect with these gradients over my logo.
The problem I am running into is that I cannot use my logo as a group to mask the gradient objects. I have attempted joining, combining, etc my logo group and making it a mask, but there are strokes inside that then mask as the fill shape.
Is there a way to mask, not unlike the clipping mask tool that is so easily used in Photoshop CS3?

Making Quicktime slide shows (videos) with Windows

Hello. With the Mac platform, I am able to use my photo program, iPhoto, export photos from it and make a Quicktime slide show (video, with accompanying music from my music program, iTunes. Is this also possible with Windows, ie: where would the 'Export' command be and how would music be integrated into it? Any other helpful comments would be appreciated. Thank you.

You can open many different audio and image formats with the Windows version of QuickTime Pro. To assemble a slide show of still images you could open a folder of liked sized, sequentially named images and add that new file "scaled" to the audio track.
You could also open the audio track and "add scaled to selection" your individual image files. This method would allow you set the duration of each slide to different values but would limit your show to 98 images (99 track limit).
This method could also use different image dimensions, different "offsets", transparency "blends" and mask layers. Depending on your intended distribution format you could make HD sized QuickTime movies with multiple images displaying simultaneously (Brady Bunch style).

How can I feather the vector mask (path) of a shape layer in CS6?

How can I feather the vector mask, i.e. path of a shape layer in CS6?
The corresponding slider in the properties pallette is alway grayed out and unmovable for me when dealing with shape layers. Is there a trick to it, or ist it really not possible at all? (In CS5 you can feather any vector mask via the mask pallette, although the mask's behavior is most of the times quiet buggy after doing so.)
Or is there any other way to non-destructably blur a shape in CS6? (I know I can create a smart object and use a blur filter on it, but that's not really what i'm after.)

Start from the beginning
- Select the Rectangle Tool - go to Options Bar, ensure 'Shape' options is on from the the Pick a Tool Mode drop down list.
- Draw Rect. This should create a vector Shape Layer.
- Select it in the Layers Panel: The Properties Panel then should highlight the Density and Feather options.
What happens here when you drag the Feather slider? On my end it feathers the vector shape as a whole.
If you need further masking capabilities, then apply a Layer Mask to the Shape and proceed with the Properties Panel Density/Feather options.

Trying to resize a mask for use with a Reshape Effect

The problem is that I have two pictures of faces that are about 25% different in scale, and I'm trying to get them close to matching so that the morph looks good.
I found a few workarounds on Creative Cow, but none of them seemed to work for me:
1) Pasting the mask into a solid then resizing the solid appropriately, then pasting the new mask from the new solid into the other image.
2) Using keyframes with mask shape to scale the mask directly
3) Highlighting the mask using the common shape tool (unsure if they're talking about the rectangle shape tool here, Google revealed nothing), and then resizing the selected area.

Just to make it more concrete, one image is scaled to 75%, and the other to 110%. When I paste the mask from the 75% image to the 110% one, it appears too big -- as if it had been drawn on a 100% version of the image. And when I paste the mask from the 110% one onto the 75% one, it appears too small.
And I'm sure anyone who could answer this question already knows this, but the Reshape effect requires each layer to have two masks on it, one for the image that you start off with and one for the image you end with.

The mask paths are calculated in relation to the layer size. Scale up the layer and the basic mask information, the vectors used to draw the path, scale with the layer but the root data does not change. Draw a 50 X 50 pixel mask on a layer that is 50 X 50 pixels, copy the path and then past it on a layer that is 500 X 500 and they will be the same size. Now draw a different mask on a 50 X 50 layer that has been scaled 1000% and then paste it to a layer that is not scaled and see what happens. Return the original scaled layer to 100% and check out the size of the two masks. They should be the same.

I see all movies and music available to be sync but when I click on the sync button, the process starts, the bottom bar shows an increase in consumed space then nothing happens and the bar goes back as nothing was added.
