Mass broadcasting of alerts

Hello all!
Problem Today: We want check a report with exceptions for around 500 combinations or variants of the report and send them over Information Broadcaster to a user by mail.
Our plan is:
-Start a programm or function over process chain
-in the process chain read selection/variant from a table in BW
-execute Broadcast for this variant and send mail (if a value is reached)
-repeat this 499 times
I know, there are programms or functions beginning with RSRD* which maybe could be useful.
I know that I can start a Broadcast via process chain
Is someone there how has some experiences in this topics.
Just some tipps or something.
We have BW 3.5 and I have really no experiences in Information Broadcasting or BEx Broadcaster.

Query mass Broadcasting to fill OLAP cache

Hi,
I have +- 50 relative small queries that I'd like to precalculate each night (push them to the OLAP cache) as these queries are displayed together in one KPI dashboard.
I know the Bex Broadcaster is the tool that should be used but at this moment I don't know any way to schedule the precalculation for ALL queries in mass. Is there a way to Broadcast queries in mass via a certain program or via any other means?
Putting them in one workbook is an option (and having this workbook precalculated) but I was wondering if there are any other solutions ?

I have now been investigating mass broadcasting via :
1 one workbook with several queries integrated
1 webtemplate with several queries integrated
But both alternatives don't offer the option "Fill OLAP Cache" in the Bex Broadcaster. It seems this is only selectable when you start the Broadcaster for one individual query ? So my conclusion is that you need to make a settings for all queries individually ? Or is there a way to change the distribution method for webtemplates ? Quite a big dissapointment for me anyway...

Broadcast Email (Bursting) - Information Brodcasting :: How it can be used?

Hi Friends,
Can you please tell me the steps for Broadcast E-mail (Bursting)?
Whenever you select this option in the BEx Broadcaster Wizard in New Setting, we can see a Recipent Determination. Under this we can find many options such as Characteristic Determination, Filter etc.
I don't understand the functionality here. On which case and what time these settings are determined? Could you please guide me with the step by step functinality of Email bursting of Information Broadcasting?

Query Alerts using IB(Urgent)

Dear Folks,
I am new to Netweaver version..right now I am working in Netweaver 2004s, Here users requires alerts based on variants created in BEx anlyzer. I am only aware of Reporting agent.here it is obsolete version..
I have created BEx queries with Exception.
Now what are settings required to tigger alerts for the particular query.
I tried to call Bex Braodcaster from Query Designer aswell as Query Anaylzer..Its not showing any popup window or output for futher..
Is ther any option to call Bex broadcaster for alerts..
I have a PDF file rleated Exception..in that file he called broadcaster from Designer..in my case its not working..

I called Query using URL, its showing as query template, there i found Information Broadcaster tab..
But here in distribution type its showing only by EMAIL..its not showing any ALERTS option..
I dont know what are settings required here..
Please correct me if I done in wrong way..and please let me know how can I trigger alerts from querys to endusers..

Hi Mr. Krishna,
For indexing (B-tree) to work you should have high cridinality columns (Large number of different values in the colums). If it is not so indexing will not work at all.
You can check this by running select count(distinc colums) from table_name. Compare this value with the total number of rows in the table. if there is a very small difference you can assume indexing will work.
Or else you can check the cardinality from the distinct keys column in user_indexes table after anaylyzing the index.
Oracle provides bitmap indexes for low cardinality columns. Try using bitmap index.

Never again - Emergency Alert System (EAS)

My daughter was watching TV last night and FIOS interrupted programming with some Emergency Alert System message that was painfully loud and temporarily damaged her hearing. We could not disable it when it happened. If this ever happens again, we're through with FIOS TV.
I can't believe that anyone would do this not knowing the potential damage it can incur.

First, I am sorry your daughter's hearing was damaged, I hope it really is or was temporary. Having said that, however:
a) It is required by law to broadcast those alerts, as you have already been informed about and provided with a reference.
b) I think the alert really has to be louder than the normal programming to get the viewer's attention (but obviously not so loud as to damage someone's hearing).
c) I think it also disrupts your viewing to get your attention, just like the sound volume. I don't think there is a program being broacast that you cannot afford to miss a minute or two of. Now, as to having to restart the recording, I agree, that really should not be required. As far as I can tell, the FiOS DVRs record programs based on the program info provided in the Guide; I am guessing that perhaps the emergency broadcast temporarily causes the DVR to lose the program info, and thus it stops recording. That would seem to me to be something Verizon could fix, if that is in fact the reason it stops recording.
d) Although my kids are long, long gone from our house, I fully support the current implementation. It is a good thing, and only a minor irritant, and pretty rare at that.
I don't know how old your daughter is, but if it were her that was missing, I suspect you would have a different outlook on this (again, except for the hearing damage).
There are certainly some problems with FiOS, but this is not one of them, IMO.

Confirming multiple alerts

hi guys,
how to confirm multiple alerts at once. i do not want to delete the alerts
so i used SALRT_CONFIRM_ALERT FM but it required a GUID as input so i cannot do a mass confirmation of alerts
do i need to write a small abap program for that

FM SALRT_CONFIRM should be working, as long as SALRT_CONFIRM_ALERT works.
Use the table parameter IT_APPL_GUID and fill with multiple lines of the GUID. Look up the GUID in the table SALRT. It's in the column APPL_GUID.
The test function in SE37 is not supposed to used for massive data test. In this case, you can write a small piece of ABAP with select options and a loop around the FM SALRT_CONFIRM_ALERT.

Auto Spam Virus

Hey Guys,
I received a link from a friend and opened it. It auto-downloaded an image. Since then me and my friend kept making groups automatically. And sending links in PM and in a group. We can't control this. Everyone who opens the link got the same thing.

Sounds like malware or something else that was circulating around the internet last year. The incident I remember had to do with something like, "how do you like my new picture." Regardless, I trust you and your team have run your preferred anti-virus/malware/spyware software suite using the latest virus signature files?
You are right - we do not need links to websites which force downloads of potentially malicious software to be included here, although I appreciate your wanting to broadcast an alert. [E-mail address redacted as it is no longer in service.]
Anyone else experiencing anything similar?

Tuning issue with false positive

One of my clients moved two of their email devices to a DMZ. The both produce alerts on the mass mailing worm alert. Before they were moved to the DMZ, you would see the alert and it would have a source and destination IP. Now it only has the destination IP address of where the device is sending email to. Since the MARS does not pick up the devices new IP address, I cannot false positive tune these alerts out. How would I go about fixing this issue?

When the IDS mistakenly thinks that normal traffic is malicious then false positives happen To reduce them you have to fine tune the system by letting it know what normal traffic means on your network.

Alerts to email when Bex Broadcaster Failed

Hi Experts,
Currently we are broadcasting Business KPI reports to the users from SAP BI at a scheduled time.
These broadcast settings are based on webtemplate. Some times the broadcast setting which is scheduled will fail due to the most frequest errors like " Error while generating HTML" etc.
The issue is only temporary basis, next time the same error will not come and the issue is not reproducable.So is there a way we can configure the alerts to emails when the bex broadcast setting is failed.
Transaction to see logs of broadcast settings is RSRD_LOG.

3 possible solutions that come to mind:
1. Write custom ABAP program that checks RSR_PREC_SETT table and sends email when report failed entry is made, and schedule program to run periodically
2. Create process chain that kick off Broadcaster report and would also notify if report has failed.
3. You can also schedule RSR_PREC_SETTINGS_RESTART with Current date variant to run periodically and this job will restart any failed broadcaster reports from that day (stored in table RSR_PREC_SETT)

Mass Printing Sequence with Broadcasting with SN 2004s

Hi,
We are currently running on BW 3.5 and our customer has specific requirements in terms of printing. the printed layout off course must be good, which will be improved with the latest version of broadcasting. But on top of this, they have requirements in terms of mass printing and sequence.
The central controlling department will need, each month, to print specific reports for all individual cost centers (more than one hundred), plus the nodes to which they are assigned within the hierarchy. And possibly, the print out must follow the sequence of the position of the cost centers within the hierarchy.
So, I would like to know whether the 2004S broadcasting would enable to schedule & print "in one go" these 100 reports in the specific sequence of the hierarchy.
I have read carefully the blog of Katie Beavers on this respect and raised the question but she does not seem to be able to answer.

you can realize your requirement by using a control query.
In the definition of the control query you can use a hierachry as a presentation hierachy, and hence this hierarchy will be used to distribute the resulting queries in the Information Broadcasting of your original query.

I am wondering to setup an alert notification email for Information Broadcasting, so if the job for any reason was failed then system will send an alert notification email to SAP Administrator person

I got a similar requirement but cant able to find a solution for this. Please help me if you have a solution.
A email notification need to be sent to the recipient email id maintained in the broadcaster setting, if the broadcasting fails due to any particular reason.
I started to write a custom program to determine the broadcasting log, but i was not able to find the link between the broadcaster setting and its log (particularly for the scheduling option)
Please let me know if there is any better solution than the custom program.

Information Broadcasting - Distribution Type Generate Alert

Hi,
1.) I am trying to use Broadcast by Exception by using Distribution Type Generate Alerts but when i am calling BEx Broadcaster i found that it only showing distribution type Broadcast Email in information broadcasting Tab but i want Distribution type Alert. is it required any setting or how to enable all these options
2.) when i am opening in RSRT it showing Information Broadcast setting but when i am calling through BEx Query Desinger- BEx Broadcaster it's not opening anything, is it required any setting for calling BEx Broadcaster through BEx Query Desinger?

In Information Broadcasting, it only showing two Distribution type one is Broadcast By Email and another is Broadcast to portal, How can i enable all information Broadcasting function for example Broadcast according to exception, Alert, etc.
is it require any setting or path or note?

Mass Delete of old RAR Alerts

Hi I have a client who averages 3,500 Alerts per month in RAR. They have only just mitigated some users / positions which are entitled to use the particular transactions so this should significantly reduce the number of new Alerts, but they want to clear the old Alerts.
I know you can manually go into the Alert Monitor TAB to clear them one at a time, but is there a Mass clear function hidden somewhere in AC5.3 SP11?

Alerting for failed broadcasts

Hi all,
is it possible to send an alert or e-mail,... whenever a broadcasting goes wrong (so when you get red entries in RSRD_LOG)?
I'm thinking about using the alert framework, but I don't know if you can use it for broadcasting monitoring.
CCMS is also ok for me.
Anyone?

FYI:
I found an OSS-note which should enable the monitoring via CCMS.
Note is 883356.
I'm gonna try this and update the thread.
