Massaging using gmail account

I would like to use messaging for video chat with contacts who do not have imessage capability, so I'm trying to connect using my gmail account but I can't. Every time I try to sign in, I get this message: "Messages can’t log in to [email protected] because your login ID or password is incorrect." However, neither my ID or password are incorrect so I don't know why I keep getting this message. Any thoughts?

Hi,
To use an Google ID in iChat (where you posted) or Messages (What you have) you need to have a Google Mail account.
At your Google Account settings you need to Enable the Talk option.
Then in Messages > Preferences > Accounts you need to use the + Button at the bottom left
IN the new pane the top item is then a Drop down
You need to select Google
Enter your Google ID exactly as it appears at Google (with the "right" @googlemail.com or @gmail.com ending)
It sounds like for your description you have added the name as an AIM name rather than a Google one.
Having said that at the AIM registration page you can register any email address as a Valid AIM name
After setting up the account who you can Video to can vary depending which Apps they are using.
Essentially a Google ID can Video to other iChat or Messages users.
It will not connect to the Standalone "Googletalk" app on PCs or to a Person using a Web Browser login  (PC or Mac)
This is because iChat or Messages connects using SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) and Google and other Jabber apps uses a Process called Jingle and the two are not compatible.

  • Sending mail with BPEL - using GMail account

Tried to send an email via BPEL. I use my Gmail Account - which I've setup to use POP for outgoing mail.
I've changed the settings in ns_emails accordingly:

But when I check the domain.log and it states that it still doesn't work:
    Domain.log:

Emails will be sent with the current settings. If you would like to enable them, please configure accounts in ns_iaswconfig.xml and then set the NotificationMode attribute in ns_emails.xml to either NONE, EMAIL or ALL.
Should I change somethin in iaswconfig.xml - and if yes - what?

  • HT5361 Using gmail account - receiving but not able to send

Recently had to change Apple ID etc but for some reason I can't send email with my gmail account - they are coming in OK, but I don't know what I need to do to be able to send them.
    Can anyone help?
    Suzy
Hi - If I go into Mail preferences and click on Google accounts / account info - towards the bottom is "Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) and that reads "Gmail (offline)".  The dropdown menu gives me additional choices of "none" or SMTP Server list.  The "Use only this server" tick box is ticked.
Does that mean anything to anyone and is there anything I can do to unblock my sending of gmails?
    Thanks again

RESOLVED - I don't know how to delete this post, but suffice it to say, I quit mail, opened it and suddenly gmail became an option from the dropdown menu.
    Thank you, Lord!

    Hey guys,
i have recently set up a gmail account and when i try to set it up on my iphone, i am recieving error messages that it cannot use SSL and asks if i want to try to set up with account w/o it and then when i say yes, it gives me a cannot verify IMAP message
    PLEASE HELP!!!!!

(Fortunately, despite living in Boston, I'm not one to hold a grudge against your nic. )

  • Merging calendar with iCloud while using gmail account

I have a me.com account that I never use - just bought it years ago when I got mobileme and my calendar has always synced easily from my mac to my iphone. I never read the info about the switch to icloud which is probably why I'm confused now. But all the sudden my iphone calendar isn't syncing with my mac calendar. The key is, I don't want to have to change my email to my "me.com" address to use the calendars. Also, would like to use notes but not sure I can without switching to me.com. Any suggestions?

An iCloud email account is required to sync notes with iCloud.  You don't have to use the email account but it must be present on your phone.  Just create the account, then go to Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars>Default Account (in the Mail section) and make sure this is set to your Gmail account.  Then just ignore the iCloud email account.

  • Cant sync notes to iCloud using gmail account

My notes aren´t syncing with my Ipad, so I went to Settings, iCloud and the Notes button is Off. I tried to put On but when I pull the button it appears the following message: "Create a free @icloud.com email address to turn on Notes", but I´m already syncing with my gmail account... What can i do?

  • Trouble using Gmail account... what's wrong?

When I use gmail for POP my iPhone grabs all the mail from my entire account. How do I get it to only grab what is new/in my inbox?

see, now... i totally did that.
pardon me if i was incomplete. i'll recreate my steps here, and thanks for the patience, whomever is reading (PTBoater, of course, included)...
i synched all my gmail accounts will nilly from itunes. then today i noticed the problem. so, i deleted the accounts, went into gmail and made that very change. then i tried both 1) letting the itunes interface resync my email and 2) deleting the accounts and setting it up from within the phone.
both times resulted in the hugely full mailbox.
any thoughts? did i do something wrong?

  • HT201320 Email app using gmail account error

Suddenlly, email app shows error "cannot get email username or password incorrect" (gmail account). Considering I am using this ipad since last year and this email for many years, what could be the resolvation? I don't have the 2 step verifying activated for the gmail account...

Yes, i can sign in on safari, the email works on the gmail app (which is inferior to the apple email app).. Even on blackberry it works as usual! I can't even set the account again because of that message...
i Know i saw something "weird" in  the account settings in the ipad: the settings for mail account from the outgoing server smtp (which are on) were cemented (grey and not accessible) and for Authentication it was set (and also blocked like all that part) Gmail client token...

  • Using Gmail Account on Messenger for Mac

I just recently switched over to a gmail account (had a hotmail account before) and have had no problems except being able to log onto messenger.
I've been searching around, trying to find how I can get my gmail account to work on messenger, but am yet to be successful.
Does anyone have any idea how to make this work, hopefully I'm just missing an easy step.

    No ideas?

  • Using Gmail account with Outlook

I have recently switched to BT Broadband from Orange.
Before the switch Outlook worked fine with my gmail email acoount.  I use the following settings:
    pop3.gmail.com
    smtp.gmail.com
Now that I am with BT Broadband my email comes into Outlook, but I can not send outgoing email
(error message when I use the test Account Settings button is - Unable to send the message: please verify the email address).
Should I still be using the GMAIL SMTP server or should I change this?  I tried the BT smtp server with no luck.

  • Cannot send email using gmail account

Within the last month or so, sending mail from my gmail id in Thunderbird fails. Receiving works fine. I'm running windows 7 on a desktop.
Status says - 'connected to smtp.gmail.com...'
Error message is - 'Sending of message failed. The message could not be sent because the connection to SMTP server smtp.gmail.com timed out. Try again or contact your network administrator.'
    Server settings are:
Server type - pop mail server
    Server name - smtp.gmail.com
    port - 995
    connection security - ssl/tls
    authentication method - normal password
outgoing server settings - for my id - I have smtp.gmail.com

Not sure why you have port 995. That is the Inbound port for POP email server. Last time I checked the SMTP ports are 587 or 465.

  • Failure to send email using gmail server

  • Mail.app and gMail account

    Hi,
why when I am using gMail account via IMAP I have still unread email counter full under the GMAIL folder even I have read all messages in my Inbox?
    Krzysztof M.

Maybe there are messages in folders other than Inbox? To get all unread messages, create a Smart Mailbox (see Mailbox menu) and select as criterion "Message is unread" (or something like that).

  • IChat 4 using Gmail

We're having problems with one end of the video chat not communicating. My friends and I are using Gmail accounts to connect through iChat (port 5223). I'm connected through a US Robotics router (5461) and running Leopard. One friend who is also having trouble is using a Linksys router (SR 2016) and is running Tiger.
Are there any other ports for the server gmail.com? And if not, do you have any helps for reconfiguring USR or Linksys routers to help solve the above mentioned error problems? Thanks for any help you can give.

    Hi,
Try port 5222 without the SSL login.
