Massive Roaming Bug

I and two of my friends have just arrived in New York. We all have O2 3G iPhones running the latest software. The 3 phones were purchased in the UK from different stores at different times.
ALL 3 phones are exhibiting the same massive bug as follows.....
For the first day or so we were here all phones worked as normal whilst connected to the roaming network AT&T.
Today, all of the phones now connect to T-Mobile (with no way of changing that).
The T-Mobile signal strength if 100% for 10 seconds, then 0% for 20 seconds, then back and forth for ever.
You cannot, call out or in and text messaging fails.
After 5 mins or so the phone auto-reboots and the cycle continues.
Manually re-booting does not fix the problem.
I cannot got off the T-Mobile network.
My phone is 100% totally useless. I can do nothing with it whatsoever.
All of the phones are exhibiting the same problem.
Went to the NY Apple Store and they said they could not help because it was a UK phone.
Went to AT&T and they just laughed saying the iPhone is causing nothing but problems and other roaming customers have reported the same problems. After spending 30 minutes with them I left the store with the same problem.
Sine 3 phones are all doing this (and I have 1 other UK friend here with an iPhone and his phone is working normally, however, this is his 3rd phone as the other 2 did exactly this issue as well).
This is totally unacceptable and bugs like this should not make it into production devices.
I travel abroad all of the time and the iPhone has never presented these problems. Here in NY and 3 out of 4 phones are bust.

This is not a roaming bug. All GSM cellphones will choose the strongest tower available to use for voice and data. By default all GSM phones are set by the manufacturer to auto-detect any GSM carrier tower for better reception though unfortunately this can cause roaming charges to be incurred. Due to the USA has several GSM carriers (top two are AT&T and T-Mobile) with towers in close proximity to one another you can change the iPhone 3G network settings to only use one specific carrier by going into "Settings" then "Carrier" then select which network carrier you want to use. This can be very handy for those living close to the USA/Canada boarder where they may be picked up by the other country carrier network. Keep in mind that by setting the iPhone to only use one carrier you do run the risk of dropped calls when roaming outside that specific carrier's network coverage. Though at least you won't see roaming charges Note: When roaming in the USA I leave my network settings to auto and when I get back home my Rogers invoice shows the dates and times I was roaming on either AT&T or T-Mobile. I've never had any issue when roaming in the USA of being billed by both carriers at the same time when placing a call due to as stated the iPhone will pick the strongest signal.

Here are bugs on my Lumia 800
    a) When you disable roaming and you
have no Carrier data connection then
the phone will not use WiFi for data
like I.E. or email... Urgent Fix Needed!
This is a weird one... as WiFi schould
work even if there is no Carrier.
    b) When you type in a new contact
the Autocaps for a new cell does
not always work. A fix would be welcome.
    c) The latest Nokia navigation software
    does not install...

To make sure that this is not software related, set it back to factory settings, without using any backup data afterwards. Set up the rest of the personal settings manually and test the phone.
If the phone works after that, restore from the latest backup again. If the problem comes back, the backup contained corrupt data, causing the issue.
If it still does not work, this could be a hardware issue and the phone has to be serviced by Apple or an Authorized Apple Service Provider:

  • HUGE BUG IN Flash Player 9

I ran into this huge massive bug in FP9..
    Reproduction steps:
    1. Goto Flash Download page.
    2. Select version 9 for Linux.
    3. Install
This normally breaks down around step 2.

So its not a bug in the player .. its a problem in the
    download of it.
Doesn't sounds like a massively huge bug in the player at
    all.

  • Using a US iPhone 3Gs in Europe for 4 months...

My daughter will be on a study abroad program in Italy for 4 months and likely will be frequently traveling to other European countries on the weekends, etc. What is the best way for her to be able to use her iPhone without incurring the potentially massive roaming charges I have heard of. My worry is that she will inadvertently turn on the roaming feature and I will get slammed for a $5,000 bill for the month! Also, what about using Skype or similar with the 3Gs?

You get charged for 1 international roaming minute if the phone is not answered and the call goes to voicemail. Data charges will also be incurred, since the iPhone's Visual Voicemail is accessed as data, not voice. Airplane mode will prevent all of that, of course. As an alternative to data, she can call her own number and press * during the voicemail greeting, then enter her voicemail password to access voicemail (calling her own number would, of course, incur another 1 minute charge...).
You might want to consider an international roaming voice and data package from AT&T.

  • If you shoot in raw do not use a mac!

    I use a canon 5d which is a full frame camera ( effective size is 4368 x 2912 )
the problem runs deep in the system, after downloading the raw images using the canon software at 4368 x 2912 all of apple other software including the finder reads the image as 4372 x 2906 but adobe photoshop sees it correctly.
is this a massive apple bug?

Some folks aren't happy unless they're unhappy. For them, Windows is the perfect solution to all of their maladies. I would suggest the OP make the switch as soon as possible so he can find all of his missing pixels.

  • The HTC One M8 is a lemon and Verizon refuses to work with us.

We are now awaiting shipment of a FOURTH HTC One M8. First purchased on release day and returned within a week per store suggestion due to roaming bug (fixed with software update later). Second phone randomly turns off, restarts, freezes and doesn't respond. Verizon made us warranty replace this one as it was just past the 14 day mark of the initial purchase (we weren't thrilled). Now the third phone exhibits same behavior as second. Was supposed to get call from Verizon support manager yesterday following up on their insisting that an app was causing it, but she never called like she assured she would. We had removed ALL downloaded apps and still had phone turn off randomly. Verizon now refuses to do anything but send us a reconditioned phone as another replacement. This is the first and last HTC device we will ever try and most likely will begin looking for another carrier as Verizon clearly doesn't care about solving it's customers problems. If they expect me to pay full price for a reconditioned phone they're a joke. I'm awaiting a phone call from someone in management within 24-48 hours to discuss this all further.
Do yourself a favor and avoid this garbage phone!

"You have a warranty which states replaced with certified like new and not brand new."
This would be understandable and acceptable if it was for the fact that since day 1 we've been given broken phones.I refuse to pay full price for something that has been broken since the start.
I've spoken with HTC and received the "this issue hasn't been reported" statement and it pretty much went nowhere. One option was to send the device to HTC and wait for them to figure it out and send it back, but with no backup phone (turned in for credits) to use and my wife using this for work that's not a viable option.

  • Off loading photos and videos from ATT/US iPhone in Italy

    Hi -
I'm taking my US purchased ATT iPhone 4 on a backpack trip to Italy to use as a photo/video camera.  I have a regular, US customer ATT account - not a business or international account.
If I understand it correctly, to avoid getting socked with massive roaming and data charges I should:
    - keep the phone on Airplane Mode,
    -  turn off Mail accounts and Push,
    -  turn off WiFi until I'm in a wifi zone (like a hotel).
    I still have some questions.
What would happen if I left Location Services on so my photos would be geotagged?  Does that incur data charges?
I'm planning on taking a LOT of pictures and I'm not bringing a laptop so my next biggest concern is -
what would be the smartest way to back-up the photo/videos somewhere safe, so I can delete them from the iPhone to make room for more images?
    - If I use Photostream (only when in a wifi zone)- when I delete images from the phone they get removed from the stream - right?
    - iCloud (only when in a wifi zone) won't store photos - will it?
Remember - I want to do this data transfer without ATT charges. Do I understand these things correctly??
Is there a portable iPhone hard drive I can use without a computer interface?  That would be ideal - to just copy photos and videos over to an external box via "hard wire".
    Thanks for your input.

Moving photos from old iMac to memory stick
         Open Photos in iPhoto
Select All photos (which happens to be 2193 at the moment in my case)
Drag Photos on to the Memory Stick icon
That is not moving an iPhoto Library. It will not retain Faces, Titles and lots of other metadata. That's moving the Previews (only) from one Library to a thumb drive and then importing them to another Library.
    To move a Library:
To move an iPhoto Library to a new machine:
Link the two Macs together: there are several ways to do this: Wireless Network,Firewire Target Disk Mode, Ethernet, or even just copy the Library to an external HD and then on to the new machine...
But however you do choose to link the two machines...
Simply copy the iPhoto Library from the Pictures Folder on the old Machine to the Pictures Folder on the new Machine.
    Then launch iPhoto. That's it.
This moves photos, events, albums, books, keywords, slideshows and everything else.
I'll ask the same question that I posed
above - can you do this for Mail and iTunes?
Most certainly not. You need to ask on those forums for the correct way to move those databases.

  • Lightroom 4: Massive BUG with White Balance / Quick Develop. Totally Unreliable!

I just recently updated from LR3 and just now found a massive bug concerning the white balance adjustments in the quick develop module.
After a studio shooting and especially after weddings I use the "make warmer" adjustment in the quick develop panel to give all (a few thousand NEFs) a nicer look all at once.
The great thing about this is - like all quick developments - that it increases the color temperature relative to each image's starting white balance.
Yesterday I wanted to edit my first wedding in LR4 and like in LR3 applied one click "make warmer" to all images at once (previously WB was "as shot").
While I browsed through the images to rate them I noticed some of them were very "pinkish".
After closer inspection it came out that a lot of images (50%-60%) had the following custom WB set: 5316, Tint: +10.
It is always this exact combination no matter what the "as shot" WB was.
That setting of course applies way too much magenta to a lot of images.
After resetting the WB of single images to "as shot" and selecting "make warmer" once again the images look fine and get appropriate WB values.
But every time I select more than one image to apply "make warmer" a lot of them get the strange value of 5316 and +10.
Sometimes it's even just the first few images of the selection that get correct values and all the following ones get the off value. It appears to be totally random.
I tried completely resetting all images prior to "make warmer", setting them to different camera profiles first and even switched them to Process 2010 again. But absolutely no luck!  :-(
The "make warmer" tool gives me totally unusable results.
I find it strange, that I couldn't find anything about that on the net.
    PLEASE fix this ASAP.
To apply WB to thousands of images individually is a real pain.
I would be glad to support you fixing the issue.
    My setup:
    Nikon D700
    Nikon D300s
(Both cameras affected, I only shoot NEF)
    Win7 x64
LR4.1 as well as LR4.2 RC

    @ssprengel
I get your point but that is exactly my problem.
Not only is there no pattern but also once I reset a file that got 5316+10 to "as shot" and select "make warmer" for it again it does get the correct value! As long as I select it as a single file without others.
So just to simplify my findings and explain what I have been doing all night:
    - SELECT 5 files in Library View (all freshly imported, no settings altered, WB "as shot")
    File 1: 5700 / -8
    File 2: 5500 / -8
    File 3: 5550 / -8
    File 4: 5450 / -6
    File 5: 5500 / -7
    - CLICK "make warmer" once
    Result:
    File 1: 6089 / -8
    File 2: 5867 / -8
    File 3: 5316 / +10
    File 4: 5316 / +10
    File 5: 5316 / +10
    1 and 2 are okay!
    - SELECT 3-5
    - RESET THEM
    Result:
    File 3: 5550 / -8
    File 4: 5450 / -6
    File 5: 5500 / -7
    - CLICK "make warmer" again
    Result:
    File 3: 5316 / +10
    File 4: 5812 / -6
    File 5: 5867 / -7
File 4 and 5 are okay!
    - SELECT File 3 again
    - RESET IT
    - CLICK "make warmer"
    Result:
    File 3: 5923 / -8
now File 3 is okay, too.
    It is completely random!
But that is no way to work, of course.
I have two weddings from last week and am going nuts already.

    Thank you for your answer.
The entry in that registry key remains indeed there. Is it safe to just remove that registry key when the user is no longer logged into that specific server?
The KB that you have send me is with the following explanation:
    Notes
This issue occurs when the Windows Search service is enabled.
When this issue occurs, the registry subkey that represents the stale user profile is deleted. This subkey appears in the following location:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList
But we do not have the Windows Search service installed nor is it enabled in the services list? But the subkey does remain in the registry.

  • Massive data loss bug

Leopard's Finder has a glaring bug in its directory-moving code, leading to horrendous data loss if a destination volume disappears while a move operation is in progress. This author first came across it when Samba crashed while he was moving a directory from his desktop over to a Samba mount on his FreeBSD server. Here's the link - http://tomkarpik.com/articles/massive-data-loss-bug-in-leopard/ I hope Apple would get this fixed soon.

That is actually the safest and easiest option.
Seems easier to command-click drag and drop to me. Losing data is not acceptable under any circumstance.
    Everything has been precisely calculated
I don't think that data loss is something that was purposefully precisely calculated.
A short term fix would be for Apple to disable the command-drag n' drop altogether, long term would be to fix the root issue in the first place.
Am shocked to hear that this data loss bug has been known about since 10.3.

  • Roaming/PMK bug

Does anyone know anything about CSCsl34076? I found it mentioned in the release notes for WLC code 4.2.99, but other than that it's like it doesn't exist. The description of the bug in the release notes state "Controllers cache only one PMK per client device, but they
should cache several PMKs for each client. This defect forces client
devices to reauthenticate and renew the PMK when they roam.
    Workaround: None."
I think I may be experiencing that but I've been unable to find out any additional info on the bug. My clients (Symbol scanners running WPA2/PEAP) sometimes do a successful fast roam but most of the time they do another full re-auth.

Here is the URL while client is on roaming follow the URL which will help you :

  • Roaming disabled bug on 4G and LTE

I have an iPhone 6 and my phone operator (TIM Italy) billed me 7 times for connections I made abroad. The data transfer was minimal, just a couple of MBs in total, but the bill was high as I pay a fixed price for each connection done abroad, regardless of the data transfer amount (until a certain cap is reached).
I have the roaming option disabled on my iPhone so I didn't expect any data transfer to occur.
I tried to fill a claim to get the money back, but my operation replied saying that they have proof that connection happened and they are saying it is a pretty common case with iPhone 6 and 4G/LTE networks. They are saying the software roaming lock works well for EDGE and 3G, but for 4G/LTE it sometimes allows some data to be transferred, thus the billing occurs as they can't distinguish voluntary from involuntary data transfers.
My operator is suggesting disabling 4G/LTE to avoid running in the same issue again, but it is not an acceptable solution to me as I live on the borders between Switzerland and Italy and I often fall by chance under Swiss network coverage so either I disable 4G forever or I have to accept with those very high bills.
Is Apple aware of this bug? If this is a software bug can I ask Apple to refund my bills?

    Stereodark
I see that your Question has languished for some period of time without response. You have posted your issue in Using Apple Support Communities whose topic is 'How to use this forum software's interface, features and/or how to find what you wish'. It is a relatively low traffic and inappropriate forum for your problem. I will ask our Hosts to move it to " Using iPhone " where it may get a more rapid response from your fellow users.
I must say, that your situation (on the border) may be insurmountable with the recommended workaround.
    In answer to your Questions...
If TIM Italy is "...saying the software roaming lock works well for EDGE and 3G, but for 4G/LTE it sometimes allows some data to be transferred,...", then this seems like it must be what we refer to as a "known issue". Apple seldom (if ever) uses the term "bug", no do they often offer workarounds (as the issue is likely unaddressable by the user with a "Setting" or such).
    As for the refund? ? ? ?
You don't state that you have spoken with Apple at all (?) see the center column > http://www.apple.com/it/contact/
best luck & we await any updates

  • Massive bug in Sonic the Hedgehog -or is it just me?-

I've got a 5th gen iPod and I was very excited by the announcement of Sonic the Hedgehog for it to while away the long train journeys! However, there appears to be a massive and crippling bug that means I can't get 10 seconds into a game.... I think i've traced it down:
Holding the down button (the play/pause of the click wheel) for a longish time will cause the game to freeze, and then Sonic will quit, returning me to the games menu.
I'd be interested for others to confirm this bug, because it'd be nice to know that it's not just me, and that Apple is aware of it. Perhaps the bug is because holding play/pause normally turns off the iPod?

On my 3rd gen Nano, holding down the "down" button (ie the play/pause button) actually goes one further, and turns OFF the ipod - in the middle of a game! I'm training myself to just touch the play/pause to look down, or to spin, but it's hard! Still have the muscle memory or whatever from my Megadrive from years ago. It's also incredibly hard at the moment to switch thumbs for jumping. On the old Megadrive controller your left thumb would control direction and your right thumb would jump. On the tiny nano click wheel, you need to switch which thumb makes you jump according to which direction you're going in...if you're running right, your LEFT thumb has to be used to make you jump: frustrating. I've tried the B control scheme but find A generally better. And the game is still fun though!

  • ITunes 7.5 Massive Bug

Today I upgraded my iTunes 7.3 to 7.5. Yesterday everything was fine...but now whenever I try to open iTunes...it just hangs! And I've to end that program from 'Task manager'. I'm using Windows XP Sp2. I tried several uninstallation and reinstallation...but nothing seems to work! Even when I tried to roll back to 7.3...it says it can't read my library as that iTunes library was made by a newer version of iTunes (i.e. 7.5). Please help guys...looks like a major bug to be fixed in **** iTunes !

This might actually be an issue with your firewall and/or anti-virus software. I'm using 7.5 and don't have any issues with it, and I'm also on XP SP2. Did you try closing your firewall and/or anti-virus programs before opening iTunes? You might find that another program was interfering because it thought 7.5 was a new unauthorized program - I think this might esp be true for Norton users.
However, if you want to go back to 7.3 I can help you restore your old library:
    1. Uninstall 7.5 and reinstall 7.3 but don't try to open it yet.
    2. Go to My Music>iTunes>Previous iTunes Libraries. You should see a file called 'iTunes Library 2007-11-11' (or dated whenever you upgraded). Copy this file into the 'iTunes' folder in your 'My Music' folder.
    3. Open the iTunes folder and move the 'iTunes Library.itl' file onto your desktop. Rename the file you just copied to 'iTunes Library.itl'.
    4. Open the 7.3 version - it should look just like it did before!
If this worked you can delete the 'iTunes Library.itl' you moved onto the desktop; if it didn't you'll need to close iTunes, move that file back into the iTunes folder and go back to trying something else with 7.5. The only reason it might not work is because you've reinstalled several times.

  • Massive bugs in ARD 3.7

So I use ARD on a daily basis at work to manage over 300-400 users, and before this update everything was working fine.
The major issues that the 3.7 update seem to have caused are the following:
Eats up huge amount of RAM which cause the whole machine to crash and force quit will not work at all!!
Keeps trying to populate list of machines (even though a machine is found and authenticated it will disappear and reappear in a loop)
Failes/stuck on authenticate many machines that were working before
Not showing all users on network (even though they are there and working through normal VNC)
Showing users as OFFLINE even though they are ONLINE (if you connect to them it will authenticate and connect but not change status to online)
Copy/Install/Unix commands keeps giving failure error and will only work if you keep trying a couple of time
Will not identify machines through their DNS so all created saved lists are instead listed by IP obviously causing a problem as we use DHCP so lists are useless the next day..
All users on network have updated ARD to 3.7 and most of them run 10.8.5
The admin machine run ARD 3.7 with 10.9 on a 2010 iMac with 8GB RAM
Steps taken to fix problems with ARD, non of which solved anything:
Trashed container preferences and rebuild ARD from scratch with fresh install
rebuild machine with a brand new 10.9 install
Tried setup on a different machine (MacBook Retina with 16GB RAM)
Apple need to sort this out asap as ARD is now completely unworkable and just a nightmare when trying to support users.. Instead we are back to asking IP of user and using screen sharing through VNC (finder) instead..
Anyone have any information about any updates that will fix this? I have read about that they plan a 3.7.1 update but no ETA and not what bugs it will fix.

Good, so basicly you rely on the backup computer as you don't have any dedicated test computer. I guess you refer to the iMac as your admin computer now because as things are cleared it will eventually become the ”production environment”. I use that strategy aswell sometimes so I would back you up but I'd be clear on the naming - that's your test computer. Your backup computer is part of the production system thus should have both that treatment and credit.
I know this problem only arise in larger networks but in pre 10.9 environment that's just one 5 min downgrade so it shouldn't be a problem even though you did the untested upgrade on your mainframe. The ARD client is of no concern (this time at least) so there is no deploy issue.
It's only when OSX 10.9.0 and ARD 3.7.0 admin meet you have a real problem as you are on thin ice downgrading. If that's a test fleet it wouldn't be of any concern but if that's someting you rely on I'd definately say that the largest problem is the strategy of the admins. Two .0 mistakes in an important computer is a system error and that strategy is a ticking bomb.
I mean when software is proven fine on the test fleet the next step should be to put it on non important computers. Those are the ones nobody depends on and I was now talking about 10.9 in particular. Home computers are good because you get well exposed of them and your also have close relationship with the users who will not be afraid to give you the slightest flaw right in your face.
3.7.1 seams better as the computers doesn't flip around (so far) but the IP:s are still strange.
ifconfig the client and it will tell you what you see in 3.6.x but what you read in 3.7.1 admin is still fantasy. At least you adress the correct computer sending unix commands or want to monitor/control it even though the IP is wrong. Too early to tell but that's what I have found during the first day.
