MASTER-2 FAR BIOS (ms-9130)

I'm having stability problems (SATA drives locking up) with the K8T MASTER-2 FAR (ms-9130) and I can't seem to find the latest bios on the MSI website.
My BIOS id:  W9130MS V1.3 071304
Latest BIOS on MSI website is appears to be older than what I'm using:
http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/bios/bos/spt_bos_detail.php?UID=484&kind=3
Could the MASTER-2 FAR7 bios be compatible with the MASTER-2 FAR; VIA K8T800Pro vs. K8T800?
Thanks for your time,
Lawrence

Nope, those BIOS'ses are NOT the same, do not go there!
Anyway, what else is in your system, as it could be anything, doesn't have to be the drive's.
Could be well the powersupply or something else.
Also, why do you thing the sata drive's lockup?
Please list the system as detailed as you can.

  • K8t master 2 far - Bios PChealth 2nd cpu no temp reading?

Hi ya all, Ive just got myself the MS 9130 (was supposed to be the Master 2 far 7, but was sent the older Master 2 far) anyways, great to be here.
Its currently populated with 2 opty 240's and also with 2x1 gig of ecc ddr400 ram. Boots fine and all that.
    Couple of questions...
    1. when boots, it displays the Bios as being V1.3 071304 which is fine, i know the latest bios is 1.4 (as on the MSI site) however, is it worthwile updating to the latest bios (i have 2x250 optys coming in the post later on in the week) Does the V1.3 bios have the micro code to support the 250?
    2. In the bios itself, under "PC heath" it doesnt show me what the temp for CPU2 is, it does however nicely show what it is for CPU1 (stable at 40 degrees c) surely it should show what the temp for cpu2 is right?
Could this have something to do with how tight you screw down the cpu2 cooler? (next to the AGP slot) how much should you screw that one down?
    3. Also, Vin2 is shows as -12.77v is that right?
Iam using an enermax Liberty 620W psu to power the show, 24pin in the Powerplug and a combo 8 pin plug in Jpwr1
kind regards and thanks for any help
    cheers

Best BIOS is 1.3B5, however, this board only support the 130nm Opterons...if those 250's are 90nm they will not work...
Not a BIOS matter but a regulator matter.

Yes it should, maybe the CPU's heatsensor is broken.

Might be, but normaly not, unless you use coolers that bend the board.
Bending a board is a bad thing.

Sorry don't know, the board does use -12V from the powersupply so looks ok to me.

  • MS-9130 K8T Master 2 FAR BIOS w/4GB Memory Remapping

    Hi all,
Just wondering if anyone has been running a stable release BIOS (not beta) on the 9130 that resolves the memory re-mapping issue for those of us with 4GB of RAM?
My system is very stable with both 32bit and 64bit XP Versions, but I'd like to make full use of my installed RAM if possible. There has been a lot of dialog about this in past months and a new BIOS was supposed to be in the works, but V1.35 is still the latest version on the MSI site and doesn't resolve the memory map issue. V1.47 posted in the BIOS thread is still beta and as best as I can tell isn't completely stable.
Have I missed any new developments or releases?
Any advice or assistance is appreciated...
    Thanks!
    Richard

    That bios has the function....
    Hi Bas,
Thanks for your reply. I know you said in that thread that the 1.47 Bios has the memory mapping function, but there are also many warnings about the fact that this version is not necessarily ready for use beyond testing. Also, nobody confirmed that the 4GB memory mapping was actually working.
Some of your cautions in that BIOS thread included:

    Hi guy's,
I hereby post the latest MS-9130, I have tested this and for me it worked and was stable.
Beware, this beta is more alpha then beta, but stable.
This BIOS has quirks, do not use or flash it on a production machine or complaint that it does have problems
It's entirely your own fault if something happens as YOU decided to help testing[/color]
    <snip>
    A couple of remarks:
When you download this BIOS, you confirm you did know this is a testing-bios, not a bugg-free one.
    <snip>
As I said, this is test-BIOS, not to use if you don't wan't to help testing, nor the forum or MSI is responsible if something does go wrong!
Have there been additional improvements made since you gave those cautions about the Version 1.47 Bios?
Do you think it's safe to use that version now on a production system?
Thanks, Bas! As always, your assistance is greatly appreciated

With BIOS 1.1 and dual Opteron 242, I have both CPU work as shown by Device manager and task manager (two CPU graphs). I can only get one CPU work since I upgrade to Opteron 250 and BIOS 1.4. Unfortunately BIOS 1.1 do not support Opteron 250.

I tried. More stable then 1.47, but not fully workable. Second CPU dont work, Smart fan dont work, if 4Gb installed -> CPU kernel time load 60-70% permanently. Last stable workable release is 1.35, but i have slow down if install LSI 21320R.
1.35 appear to be last stable version reported by users

  • K8N Master-2 FAR server 2003 x64 load problem

    hi to all
i have K8N Master-2 FAR mobo and opt 250 cpus.i cant load server 2003 x64 os.it says clasical '' did not find any hdd'' i searched in forums and web but i couldnt find any floppy driver for server 2003 x 64 enterprise edt.can someone send me pls if you have?  my e mail is [email protected]
     thanks mert

What type of interface does your HD have? IDE or SATA? My K8T Master-2 did the same thing with XP Pro 64. Turns out that the K8T doesn't support SATA II only SATA I, not sure about the K8N. I had to set the jumper on my WD SATA hd to "Use 150mb transfer only" before the BIOS would recognize it. After I set the jumper, everything went smooth as glass...just wish I could take full advantage of my hd's SATA II potential speed. Hope this helps.

  • K8N MASTER 2 FAR .Loud machine..UPGRADE HEATSINK AND FANS??..HELP?

    Hi All.
    I'm a bit of a newbie in this area..but...
My machine is very loud and im not so sure of the best way to quiet it down.
I was wondering if anyone would/could recommend a good set of replacement heatsinks and fans for my K8N MASTER 2 FAR board.
I am especially trying to find fans that are quieter than the stock ones on the heatsink now.
Also, while we are at it could anyone recommend  good, quiet  case fans?
    Any other suggestions for quietude??
    Thanks..

Just rebuilt my machine after an mobo RMA..
Is there a particular setting called "smartfan"in the Bios?
or is it just a matter of setting the temp range?
    Also..
After the rebuild, I noticed my CPU temps idle, were a bit erratic.
CPU 1 was showing 8C and CPU 2 was showing 45C
    Very strange.
Could this be a heat-paste issue?
    any suggestions?
    Thanks for all your help.

  • K8T Master 2 FAR; Hard Drive Questions About

    Greetings!
I just got off the Google bus and stubbed my toe on your doorstep.  What luck!
I have many questions, and it's getting harder to find answers for a mainboard that's not being sold "new" anymore.  I did see some other topics that go along lines similar to my own, but I figured it would be a good idea to open a new thread with my specific questions.
I have decided to split my questions into three parts.  This is part one, "hard drive" questions.
    HARD DRIVE RELATED:
Western Digital recently announced a new high-capacity SATA Raptor drive, with 150 GB of storage:
    1)  Can I mount two of them into my K8T Master 2 FAR system and "hardware stripe" them for Windows/XP?
....1A)  If yes, is there a minimum recommended BIOS that I should be running?
....1B)  If no, then would it be feasibile to "software stripe" them in Windows/XP Pro?
If I decide to proceed, I will be well-prepared to accept the risk of data loss that would occur if one drive were to crash.
I currently run my system with a removable SATA drive caddy for my system drive.  This makes it easy to swap OS's by swapping hard drives without opening my CPU case.  If I go with a dual-striped SATA drive arrangement and two Raptors, then I'll replace that removable caddy with a unit that can accomodate two SATA drives.
....1C)  Once in a blue moon, I get a BSOD after having swapped SATA drives.  It happens when I first boot Windows/XP after having run Linux.  Hot-swappable claims notwithstanding, I always swap drives while the system is powered down, although I don't typically shut off the hardware switch at the power power supply.  Are there any known issues or reports of other people having similar occurrences?
I also run some IDE devices for data and archival purposes.  My system is typically set up as follows:
    CH 0/0 - Data drive
    CH 0/1 - DVD burner
    CH 1/0 - Data drive
    CH 1/1 - Data drive
Recently, my system stopped "seeing" any hard drives on CH 1 drive 1.  Known good drives won't show up in the BIOS, and auto-detect doesn't "see" a drive in that position.  I have tried more than one drive, and the problem stays on that channel and position.  I swapped cables with a known good cable, and the problem stays on that channel and position.  For the time being, I have disconnected one of the data drives...but I'd really like to resolve this issue if possible.
....1D)  Are there any known problems or issues with "disappearing IDE devices" in the K8T Master 2 FAR?
    Thanks in advance!

Can't say, this is the first time I hear about SATA caddies....
Maybe a bad contact or so?
Sata is pretty sensitive to connection problems, or even folded cables for that matter...

  • Cooler K8N Master 2-FAR

    Greetings
I am planning to buy an air cooler for my opteron 250.
Wich mounting does the K8N Master 2-FAR uses? Is it a standard socket 940 mounting? Cause i read somewhere that a regular zalman who is compatible with 940 socket doesnt fit on this mainboard.
Does it use an intel mounting?
Maybe you can recommend me an air cooler on this mobo for my cpu
    Plz help me
    Greets
    Geof

It uses an Intel Xeon socket 603 screw mounting.
Other Intel coolers could be compatible, but I don't know the types.
Look a bit further in this forum section, as this issue has been discussed a few times already.
For your info, all MSI S940 boards use this same mounting, so what you see for e.g. a K8T-Master board does also apply to yours when it comes to the cooler mounting.

  • K8N MASTER 2-FAR ..silent fans?

    i have the K8N MASTER 2-FAR board with two dual-core opteron 275
the fans are default boxed msi-fans.. they are just unacceptably LOUD..
    does anyone know of a good replacement..i bought the ultra-silent ZALMAN's (9500)
but apparently this MB not only doesnt fit two of those since it's an eATX crammed into an ATX layout (actually, i think you can make them fit if you can live with losing one of your PCIe-slots )
but also, the footings for the fans are completely non-standard so basically you cant use any common 3rd party fans.. (sigh..beginning to wish i'd bought that tyan now)
anyway.. does msi have a line of "better" fans that will actually fit on my MB or does anyone know of a 3rd party that works..
    thanks

    No way, 8x PCI-e is still 4 GB/sec.....
    Your CPU's can't manage that....
    1 PCI-e channel is 500MB/s, so 8 is 4GB/s
Don't foget that your memory is doing tops 6.4GB/s, so it can't even fill 16x, let alone 2 of them
There is no way you can fill 4GB/s at all, too much traffic is going over the bus.
Anyway, that's not the problem at all, the card can't do it, it doesn't even need that much speed to perform.
Do you know what funny, AGP 4x still can't be filled, and 8x is way overboard....
No way you notice anything between PCI-e 8x or 16x
Actually your information is incorrect. And My 6800gt will in fact bench slower at PCIe 8x than it did at 16x. With CPU2 running hot, I switched the SLi switch card around and put the 6800 in the 2nd PCIe slot and it ran at 8x as it should and my 3dmark05 was about 300pts lower on average
    PCIe 16x is 4gb/s
    PCIe 8x is 2gb/s
    PCIe 1x is 250mb/s
Common Buses and their Max Bandwidth
    PCI   132 MB/s
    AGP 8X   2,100 MB/s
    PCI Express 1x   250 MB/s

    PCI Express 8x   2000 MB/s
    PCI Express 16x   4000 MB/s

  • Master-2 far gigabyte lan help!

Hi everyone this is my first post so I apologise if it’s a long one but I really need the help from msi support team, my problem is as follows.  Im currently running
    Master-2 far with 2 opterons 246 @ stock speed
6800 GT underclocked to power saving mode
    2gb transcend registerd ram
    2 300gb sata drives
    2 80gb 7200/8mb drives
    All watercooled
Running windows Xp service pack 2
The problem I have been having is getting the NeteXtreme gigabyte lan to connect to anything I have another basic computer and an xbox and have been unsuccessful in getting the lan on the master-2 far to connect properly I always get the Limited or no Connectivity error message even thou the LED inside the case lights up indicating that the lan is functioning or at least activated.
on my xbox it says line statues is 100/full duplex which is good but no ip address is assigned even thou I have assigned a static one on the xbox itself.  My second computer simply has no ip address and just sits there also even when I give both systems a static ip still nothing happens.  I have made sure that I am running the latest version of the lan drivers that I could find on msi’s support page and am running all the Microsoft updates available for my system.
The funny thing is the reason why I know it’s the gigabyte lan is because when I install my previous lan card made by 3com the thing registers and everything is fine its just that because I have now installed all my video editing stuff I no longer have the space pci slot for my old lan card so I must fix the onboard lan some how.  Thanx for any help received.

Hi Bas done a little bit of testing since your last suggestions I have unplugged the jpwr2 connection as suggested and it seems to not make any difference but on the good side I have been able to connect to both my spare computer and my xbox on both partitions of windowsXp one of which is running service pack 2 the only problem I seem to be having now is that I cannot get full duplex enabled no matter what I do.
Working lan settings for both instillations of winXp are:
    80.1p QOS = Disabled
    Checksum Offload = Tx/Rx TCP/IP Checksum
    Ethernet @Wire speed = Enable
    Flow Control = Auto
    Large send offload = Enable
    Locally administerd address = nothing
    Speed & Duplex = 100mb Full
    Wake up capabilities = Both
    WOL = 100mb
I have noticed that if I set the IP address of the card to manually configure itself it will be unsuccessful in doing so and result in the error message corrupt or bad Ip that leads to the limited or no connection error, so I assign it a static IP to prevent this.  Also if I set the speed and duplex setting to auto this will result in no connection with the errors stated above so I have a choice of anything but that, even 100mb full duplex but still only half duplex is the line speed that is overall selected regardless.  Im slowly getting there is there anything that you can suggest in relation to the options stated above that should be turned on ect I have one last idea which is to install the old drivers that came with the board because I am currently using the ones from the online support download centre.
Named:  Broadcom 5705 Gb LAN device driver 2003-9-9
Maybe ill have more luck there but I dout it also what did you mean by your previous statement “Let me know when you have the new memory, it should work then.” My memory seems to be perfect from what I can tell never had any problems with it what so ever

  • K8T Master (x) Far 1.20 BIOS released...

    Hi,
The new K8T Master BIOS 1.20 BIOS has been released....
    As usual I'm the first......
You can download it here or wait for MSI to realease it:
    http://ftp://ftp.heppen.be/msi/K8T-Master/

I flashed it and it caused my hard drive light to stay on all the time.  Went back to the beta 118 and all is well.  How can MSI put out a BIOS that does something stupid like that?

  • Which BIO is in your K8T800 Master 2-FAR?

There appears to be a variety of BIO flavors out there:
    1.0
    1.1
    1.14b
    1.2
What is your flavor of BIOS and PROS and CONS for using it?

Funny, just discovered I have 2 CoreCenters Pro installed....one with and one without.....
The one with is installed as "CorenterPro", the one without is installed as "Corenter Pro"
The version that does have DOT is from 3-12-2003....very funny

  • MOVED: MS-9130 K8T Master 2 FAR - Windows x64 SATA drivers???

This topic has been moved to Server/workstation.

You need to download them here: VIA Drivers

Win64 will not take any 32bit drivers, don't even try that road

  • K8N Master-2 FAR and SATA problems

I have installed W2K Server at my PC with the board.  But whatever I try, I can't get my SATA-drive to show up in Windows.
For the moment I'm booting from an old IBM Deskstar PATA-drive.
I have installed SP4 and reinstalled the nVIDIA RAID/SATA-drivers several times, also including an total reinstall of W2K Server.
Initially I tried with the SATA drive (a WD Raptor 74GB) as bootdisk (non-RAID) but as that doesn't worked I installed at an old 40 GB Deskstar I had.  Therafter I have tried many combinations of: RAID enabled/disabled, RAID-drivers installed/Not installed, original drivers (from the MB-CD:s/diskette) and some downloaded nVIDIA drivers.  No luck.   >:(
The SATA-drive shows up OK in BIOS (at IDE Master 2 if RAID not enabled, not in any IDE definiton if RAID enabled) and shows status "Whealty" in the RAID-config/BIOS menu.
But doesn't show up as any disk in Windows.  The closest I come with the RAID/JBOD setup was an "unknown" device in the IDE-tree in Dev.manager.  When I tried to install the RAID-driver (MB-CD) for that device I get "No driver found" - always.  When I try "Select from list" and select "nForce 4 Serial IDE driver" I get "this package is not compatible with the processortype".
Everything else seems to work, including network/Ethernet/LAN.
    Other:
    CPU:             1 x Opteron 246
PSU:             Fortron Source Epsilon 600W, Blue Fan, Active PFC, ATX/EPS, SLI, 20/24pin
    SATA drive:  WD Raptor 74GB
    IDE drive:     IBM Deskstar 40GB
    Graphic:        Gainward GeForce 7600GT 256MB GDDR3, PCI-Express
    At boot shows: W9620NMS V1.1 061405
No other external peripherals/cards other than Monitor, mouse and keyboard.
    TIA
    Thomas

I have now succeded to install a driver (although I have other problems now, see below), but the drive still refuses to work in Windows.  The drivers that came with the MB had only these .inf-files: nvatabus.inf and nvraid.inf.  With one of the drivers I downloaded, NForce WHQL 6.86, there was an "nvata.inf" that worked.
I got an ok message from the install routine and rebooted.  Still no cigar.  In dev.manager there was (in the desc box for the nForce SATA controller in "IDE-controllers") a text about that there was not enough information returned from the device/HW for windows (driver ?) to get it to work.  And a suggestion to install another driver or repair the HW.
(Something like that, I cant access the PC now as my PATA/BOOT-disk seems to begin to die as I now constantly get BSOD w. "KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED" in ntoskrnl.sys at boot.  Or maybe the corruption is caused by my many tries to install a working driver.)
As I can run Spinrite against the disk (through a selfbooting diskette) it seems that there is no problem with the disk or the  SATA-cable.  (I run a surface analyze through the whole disk whithout any problems.)
I have seen at nforcershq.com's forum that there seems to be many problems with the nForce chipset and drivers for SATA-disks.  Maybe that's what I have.  But there is also many that have working examples with SATA-disks, especially WD-disks.
I'm thinking of buying a SATA controller card and install it in the PC instead, as someone else there did.
But that would be a pity as the SATA-functions was one of the major reasons I bought this MB and also that there is only one PCI-slot and not many PCIe-slots at the MB !   >:(
