Master Catalog Location

Requesting master catalog location be selectable at install.  I try to keep all data off of system drives.  (Expect I an not the first to request this.)

Exactly.
Perhaps not so eloquent but certainly a workable solution. In fact, I have just renamed the install
catalogs and LR3 took no notice.
Correct. LR pretty much only knows about the catalog that's currently
open. If you go and delete another catalog that you are not currently
working on, LR won't mind, as it knows nothing about other catalogs. You
might mind, if it turns out you need it later.

  • How can I update a catalog on my laptop and then transfer the updates to master catalog on desktop?

    This is similar to Goeffbubbles question but I don't want to have the original files on both laptop and desktop
    Here is the question:
    I want to make a copy of a Lightroom 3 catalog to put on my laptop so while on the move I can be geo-tagging and keywording to 8000 photographs. I don't want to drag an external drive with me. I just want to be able to work on the catalog metadata and have all the updates/changes stored there (on the laptop)(in the catalog) and then transfer the catalog back to the desktop (to the primary archive) and have all the updates/changes pushed back into the DNG's or the XMP sidecar files alongside the CR2's. These changes would be only keywording and possibly writing GPS data into them….NOT image edits (that would probally require access to the original image files)
    As a test, I tried "exporting as catalog", TWO images (with the source images "unavailable"). I flash-drived the resulting catalog to my laptop. I opened the catalog in LR3 and made changes to the metadata. I tried both "saving metadata to file" and "updating DNG previews" (which would be useless anyway since I could not write data back to the missing originals) and also tried doing nothing and just closing LR,  then pulling the flashdrive and plugging it into the DESKTOP.(knowing the changes are stored within the catalog itself only) I open the 2 picture catalog in LR and see the keyword updates. Hurrah!
    I switch over to the master catalog. All I want to do is import the updated metadata (keywording, contrast, etc…) back into the master catalog and push the data into the original DNG or XMP. On import I select "replace: Metadata and develop settings only" (with or without "preserve old settings" checked) and click import. Voila! NOTHING HAPPENS and the updated keywords are NOT picked up.
    Where did I go wrong? I know that the metadata updates were carried out because they showed up when I opened it separately in LR! For some reason they don't seem to making through the import process to the master catalog…
    Sorry if I am being overly verbose....Any suggestions?

    the part you're missing is that you have to be a little more destructive in your creation.
    here are my steps:
    In LR, put the files you want to work on in a subfolder of your Primary catalog
    Export Folder As Catalog with previews, but without including the DNG's
    At your new location/machine work on that catalog.
    Here's the part that's no fun, (obviously have a backup of your catalog before you do this)
    In your primary catalog REMOVE that folder from your catalog. (this will remove all references within your catalog, but leave the RAW files alone where they were)
    You then FILE-->IMPORT FROM ANOTHER CATALOG, and import your subfolder export back into your Primary catalog.
    It'll bring all of your changes and previews back into your Primary catalog but with unlinked RAW files.
    Click on the question mark in the corner of the thumbnail that's telling you it doesn't know where the source files are and LOCATE the original file again in your file structure, with the FIND NEARBY MISSING PHOTOS box checked.
    Overly complicated for what it is, but it gets the job done.

    I have been using a PC with a Sinology NAS for picture storage. The master catalog has been generated from this PC. I would like to use the same catalog on my Macbook Pro. Is there a way to sync the two computers using one common catalog?

    Some users have a shared catalog on an external hard drive, which if portable can be carried around. I’ve never use network storage; but in theory it could work if all the file paths were identical on both machines.
    The alternative is to use a travel catalog. I dpo this on my Macbook Pro using a 128gb SD card. It means I can then process, edit photos and add metadata etc. When I get home, I import the travel catalog to Lightroom on the Windows PC to combine it with the master catalog.

  • How do I merge external drive images to desk top drive within the same master catalog?

    I have about 900 raw files on an external drive. I edited those files using my master catalog using a laptop while still travelling. When I got home, I copied the master catalog from the external drive to the desk top, then opened the master catalog on my desktop. I can see the edited images on the external drive. So far so good.
    I want to copy (add) the edited images to my desk top. I tried to export the images as a new catalog and then import it into the desire location on my desktop drive. However, LR5 does not allow that. I get this message: "There is nothing new in the catalog you have selected. All of the catalog's photos are up to date in this catalog." Yes, but the edited  images are not on my desktop.....
    I also tried to Import from the external drive and then Copy the files to the desktop, but then I lose all of the work done in the develop module and the keywords.
    I watched Kost's LR 3 video on merging catalogs, but she dodges the question of how to deal with this issue since the "merge" is within the same catalog.
    I'm using LR5 with Windows 7.
    Any suggestions would be immensely appreciated as I've spent hours trying to resolve this problem.

    Okay, so I would copy (not move) the folders/photos to the internal HD, keeping them in the same folder hierarchy as they are in now on the external HD. Yes, of course the drive name will be different, but other than that the folder path and file name should be the same.
    Then, open the LR catalog that indexes the files and Update Folder Location (details are here: http://www.computer-darkroom.com/lr2_find_folder/find-folder.htm, scroll down to the "Update Folder Location" section)
    Then, once that is complete and everything is working in your LR catalog, with no question marks on the photos or folders, optionally delete the photos on the external HD.

    It looks like it would be good.  Just be careful if you find some older pictures - and put them into, say the 1950-1974 album.  You have to remember to add them to the other catalogs.
    Remember to back up your work.
    Because their companies back up their office computers, many people forget to back up their home computers.  Make sure that you also apply the same backup care to your home files on your home computer. 
    Martin Scorsese is a semi-famous TV writer and film director.  He recently had a home robbery.  They took his computer - and the external backup hard drive that was sitting next to the computer.  He had no other backup. 
    More than 20 years of his writing is gone.  There is no way that he can replace that work.  The stolen external hard drive probably had a street value of $20.
    If he had used a second external hard drive - which might have cost him a whole $50 - and stored it offsite, he still would have all of his work.  As it is, the vast majority of his work is gone forever.  That’s a big deal when you’re a professional writer!
    I'm paranoid.  Every hour, a Macintosh utility called Chronosync automatically backs up all 70 gigabytes of my work - writing, music, and pictures - onto an external hard drive.  Twice a day, that same utility backs everything up onto a separate area of my laptop’s internal hard drive. 
    Make sure your external hard drive contains more than just your work.  Put your operating system and applications on it.  There are special utilities (I use a Mac one called Super Duper) that will make that external hard disk an exact duplicate of your computer's hard drive.  You can't do that by just dragging all your files onto the new hard drive.  Some essential system files are invisible to you.  The external hard drive won't boot without these system files.
    My external hard drives all are bootable, and contain all my current applications.  Each month, as part of my routine maintenance, I insure that each external hard drive gets updated to include everything that might have been updated or installed in my laptop during the month. 
    If my internal hard drive fails, I just turn on my external hard drive and boot up.  Lost time - about five minutes.  Since I back up every hour onto my external hard drive, I'll lose an hour’s work - at most.  I can live with that.
    Every Monday, I go to Bank of America's vault and open my safety deposit box.  I leave there the external hard drive I’ve been using all week.  I then take home the external hard drive that has been sitting in that safety deposit box all week.  If my house burns down - or if there is a robbery - the worst that can happen is that I'll lose one week's work.  Again, I can live with that.
    I really don’t need the security of a safety deposit box.  When I was working, I would take my home backups to the office and store them there.  I also would take my office backups to my home and store them there.  Since I’ve retired, I really don’t have an offsite location to use, so I use a bank safety deposit box.  It’s overkill, but it works.
    Be paranoid!  All computer hard drives will fail.  The only question is when.
    What will you do when that happens to your hard drive?  Notice that I said "when that happens" - and not "if that happens".

    I got the below error while uploading Schema with custom char for Master catalog;
    "Error in row 11 of the CSV file" where as the 11th row is "DataType;INTEGER;integer;Integer Type"
    in the csv file. Please suggest.

    Hi,
    Check txn-SLG1 in SRM system. There if you go to details, you will see exact description of error.
    There are some dos and donts for csv files. for e.g you can't put  : ,  /    etc.symbols in the csv file.

  • No entry was generated in Master catalog after contract upload by PI...

    We use CCM 2.0 as percurment catalog in SRM 7.0 server.
    1.I finish the basic configuration and tranfer the product catalog to the CCM.
    2.Then I do the mapping of product cat to master cat.
    3.I finished the PI scenarios for upload contract.
    4.When I publish a contract in the potral, I check the PI monitor is fine.
    5.I check the CCM log more,but there is a warning message 'No original catalog item found for contract catalog item 1'.
    6.The contract upload successfully and it occurs in the ccm cataloags.
    7.The log showed that
    19.09.2010 16:09:01 (CET): Starting mapping
    19.09.2010 16:09:01 (CET): Starting mapping analysis for catalog 4400000049 -> /CCM/MASTER_CATALOG

    But unfortunately,there is no entry in the master catalog for this contract.
    Could you give me some suggestion?

    Looks like the catalog was unable to be enriched from existing data - does this contract item exist in the SRM product catalog or a supplier catalog for enrichment to take place?

  • CCM 2.0: Status of items is not changed in Master Catalog

    Hello all,
    when I upload the same items in Supplier Catalog in Master Catalog and Procurement Catalog for items status is not changed from "Approved" to "Not Approved".
    Funny thing is that items need to be approved to go to Procurement Catalog from Master and to publish Procurement Catalog.
    What to do?

    do you mean that in CAT customizing you have your /ccm/master_catalog with "approved" value and the name of your procurement with "To approve" value?

  • LR - how to make a master catalog???  my pictures are all over somewhere i can't find.

    i put LR on an external hard drive.  now i suddenly have multiple catalogs as well as data previews.  my photos are scattered all over hell, i can't find what i'm looking for and half the time, i bring up a file and it cannot be found.  i tried following a tutorial to create a master catalog, but i can't find the options that say "catalog" they only say "create new folder" etc.

    Really?? No one knows??  
    This is an Apple support forum is it not?
    If anyone can at least point me in the right direction that would be great!!

  • Empty schema in master catalog

    Hi,
    I just did the basic setup CCM 2.0 on WAS 7.0
    Now I see the master catalog has no standard schema yet.
    I read this willl be generated the first time it gets edited, but it is not.
    Is this right, and do I have to build this schema on my own, or is there a initial upload available anywhere?

    As already identified by Masa you must create the schema yourself either directly in the catalog (not recommended) or use either XML or CSV uploads. Please see the help documentation for details on schema file creation:

  • Material/service master catalog upload (ECC-CCM)

    SRM have 2 possible scenarios to upload the material master data to CCM:
    1- Upload material master data from ECC to SRM and, after, from SRM to CCM.
    2- Upload material master data directly from ECC to SRM.
    Does anybody know the name of the transaction or report in ECC to upload the material/service master catalog directly to CCM?

    I have about 3 tricky questions concerning CCM-ECC Integration
    1.) Does anybody have any idea on how to upload Material and Service master from ECC 6.0 directly into the CCM 2.0 system. Is there any standard program like we have in SRM called as BBP_CCM_TRANSFER_CATALOG. I
    2.) Also are there any complications or is it possble to integrate CCM 2.0 directly from ME51n? I am aware that PM and PS out-of-the-box can be directly integrated to CCM. Is there a similar way to achieve this functionality. If yes can anybody give me some pointers on this.
    3.) Are there any complications involved with uploading service masters and interfacing CCM to EBP or ECC and directly using the service master from CCM to create a Shopping cart (CCM-EBP) or  a purchase requisition (CCM-ECC).
    I hope some one can throw some light on these questions.

  • Unable to Map Contract Catalog to Master Catalog

    Hello,
    We currently use CCM 2.0 with SRM version 5.
    Our issue is that when items are added to a contract catalogue and released, the contract releases successfully but errors appear in the upload logs advising u2018It is not possible to retrieve the data types for catalog **********. Catalog update was terminatedu2019.
    The contract catalog then has a red light against so we are unable to map the contract to the Master Catalog.
    The issue appears to be intermittent as we have had some go through successfully.
    I have checked the following:
    SXMB_MONI u2013 shows as successfully processed
    SLG1 u2013 shows no errors
    /CCM/D_CTLG_REQ u2013 there is no entry in the req_sender field
    /CCM/D_UPD_STATE u2013 the status is 02 u2013 completed with errors.
    Iu2019ve seen a similar issue posted with the advice to run /CCM/CLEANUP_DIS_PERSISTENCY, however I havenu2019t ran this before and would like some advice on the impacts of doing so before I run it in our Production environment.
    Can anyone provide some information on why this issue could be occurring and what I can do to resolve the issue?

    Hi Lisa,
    Such an error normally means the catalog is corrupted, you can run the cleanup_dis_persistency report in the hope that it can repair the links but it is doubtful, it is more likely that you will have to delete this contract catalog and then re transfer the contract to CCM again before mapping to the master.
