Master clip duplication problem

If I copy a master clip in the browser, then paste it, isn't the new clip supposed to independent? The Master Clip colunm is still showing a check beside the new clip.

Actually, in the book Final Cut Pro 5 by Diana Weynand from the Apple Pro Training Series it specifically states that copying and pasting a master clip in the browser will not create a new master clip (p. 270). I tried it in 5.0.x and that is the case, the pasted clip is not a master clip. However, trying it in 5.1.2 the pasted clip does become a master clip.
There were changes made to master clip behavior going from 5.0 to 5.1.2, but this change isn't mentioned in any of the documentation I've seen.
If anyone else is working with the Final Cut Pro 5 book, there's another master clip discrepancy between the book and 5.1.x. On page 273 it says that you will get a warning when deleting a master clip from a project that has been used in a sequence. According to the late breaking news document at http://manuals.info.apple.com/en/FinalCut_Pro_5.0_lbnz.pdf the warning dialog will no longer appear:
Managing and Revealing Master Clips
In previous versions of Final Cut Pro, affiliate clips shared data with a master clip stored in the Browser. If you deleted the master clip, a dialog would appear requesting confirmation that you wanted to break the master-affiliate clip relationship. If you clicked OK, all of the affiliated clips would become independent.
In Final Cut Pro 5.1.2, deleting a master clip no longer breaks the relationship between affiliated clips. Instead, the master-affiliate clip relationship still exists even when the master clip in the Browser is deleted. No dialog appears when you delete a master clip.

  • Sync Problem in Master Clips

    Hi,
I upgraded to FCP 6 last fall and since then I've been finding random Master clips (not necessarily whole tapes) in which the audio is out of sync from the beginning, or starts okay and then drifts as it plays down.
I checked the quicktime source files and they are in sync. The sample rate and frame rate are consistent with the project. I'm not positive that this is due to the upgrade, but I think it's likely since I started discovering the clips after I installed FCP 6.0.
My solution thus far has been to redig the the clips/tapes, but this is a pretty time consuming process (I have about 90hrs of footage for this project).
Has anyone experienced this and is there a better solution out there?

I solved it by commenting the Go_Item(startitm); line in the clear_all_records program unit which is generated by oracle forms.
    as shown below.
    IF :System.Cursor_Item <> startitm THEN
    --Go_Item(startitm);

    END IF;

  • CREATING NEW/Duplicate Master clips

Hi Guys...me again. I've been reading the manual all weekend...and decided that, since I SCREWED with this compressor thing...that I'd try to prevent the problem from happening again. I need to know if I'm on the right track.
I'm working on a video of our show (animal show) and I am creating a dozen or so "mini clips" in the timeline, one for each animal segment, each contains a/b roll, effects, etc. I DO NOT have these clips linked togeter yet...I've left a gap in the timeline between each clip, in order to grab and move them around as I see fit.
I was thinking...(a dangerous past-time for me) that "Gee, Mark, wouldn't it be swell if I could make each of these little animal clips into independent clips, so if I screw up, or have to go back and tweak it later...I don't have to deal with this **** compressor and ripping apart my work? ".
SO...I read the manual, and it seems that I can do this. The option in the menu is to make an independent clip, but when I highlighted my video/auido files in the clip area, and clicked the independent clip button, nothing happened. Does this mean that it recorded it somewhere on my project drive? i could not seem to find it. Also, should I just Modify it by making a New/Duplicate Master CLip?
Does this sound like I'm on the right track?
I'm just trying to prevent my "other" (freakin' compressor) issues from having to happen again.
    THANKS AGAIN!
    MW

No. That is not what it means.
Make independant clip removes the link between the timeline clip and the clip in the browser that the timeline clip came from. In otherwords, it will keep you from matching back to that clip in the browser.
I don't know what issues you have with compressor, but if you want your segments to be self contained clips, export them as self contained quicktimes (using Export QuickTime Movie... leave it at Current Settings... and set Self Contained). Then you can bring them back in and arrange them in your timeline as you see fit, they will be entirely self contained...

  • Using reference monitor with master clip

I love the ability to color correct the master source rather than each timeline clip! I love it so much that I want to color correct my master clips independently of the editing process but the problem is that I cannot get the reference monitor to display a scope that is synchronized to the master source clip.
In working around this the old way, edit-first, I still find often that other parts of the master clip (not chosen for a sequence) are much better for color correction (like a good face or a color calibration card.) Thus I assume there is a way to do this that I do not understand? (Or, alternately, am I thinking about it wrong?)
    Thank you!

I have identical real time TC for all 3 cameras, and two cams are continually recording. the third is roaming.
Here's a link to a past project: News & Events :: PCC's Christmas Lights Spectacular :: Pensacola Christian College
As you can see, one is locked, one is on a tripod getting closeups, zooms, and pans, and the third is moving around getting various angles. The two on a tripos are left continually recording, but the roamer starts and stops (it's handheld, so it's easier to just start/stop).
@shooternz, could you elaborate on your method a bit? You seem to indicate that you can just drop the third camera's clips in the sequence based on Time Code. I'm not familiar with TC Panels or TC Markers.
As for not all of them being used... I do have several dozen clips left over the course of a half-hour concert... :/

  • Sync multiple clips with master clip

I have a multicam shoot with two stationery cameras continually recording for the entire event and a third camera roaming around, getting dozens of individual clips from different locations/angles. ALL THREE CAMERA HAVE SYNCED TIME CODE.
I don't want to treat this as a normal multicam project, since the third camera has dozens of clips (this means dozens of "camera angles" in a multicam timeline). The best way for me to edit these cameras together in post, in my view, is to sync everything up in a timeline, and do the cutting myself.
In Premiere Pro CC 7.2.2 (33), I can sync the continual recordings no problem, because they overlap. But the dozens of clips created from the third camera have to be placed manually or timecode synced one by one.
I have found a kind of a cheat. I create a multicam sequence using all 90 of my clips (synced by timecode) then open the multicam sequence in the timeline. I then manually drag all 88 clips from the third camera down into one layer.
From here, I have two options: 1, edit as a multicam shoot with only three cameras instead of 90, or 2, Create a new, empty sequence, then copy/paste from the multicam sequence to the empty one and edit manually.
Here's my question, now that I've found a cheat: how can I better sync multiple clips with no overlapping timecode to a master clip with master timecode?

I have identical real time TC for all 3 cameras, and two cams are continually recording. the third is roaming.

  • When will PP finally stop duplicating master clip references on imported XML?

When will PP finally stop duplicating master clip references on imported XML? PP+PluralEyes is currently useless for long form projects!
Using the Plural Eyes 3 plug in in Premiere Pro duplicates the referenced master clips in the project.  Why isn't Premiere smart enough to see that there are already master clips for those files?
On large project this bloats the project file to point that it slows to crawl.  I was hoping to use Premiere Pro for my latest feature doc, but looks like I've got to go back to Avid.... Sigh.

Somehow updating to CC solved the problem for us. Let me clarify, we still
have a bunch of duplicated clips, but before, that was making our file size
enormous. Nearly 1 GB. Now it seems the program has gotten smarter and is
back down to a manageable size.
Let me know if you find a solution for the duped clips? Thanks!

  • How do i hide a connected clip so that i can see the master clip underneath?

I am attempting to finalise a wedding video.  For some reason the XML output gets scrambled in the transition between Final Cut Pro X and Resolve, losing all the in/out points in those clips which were part of two continuous hour-long movies (the master clips).  The audio was scrambled at the same time.
So I have reconstructed the clip sequence in Resolve, restoring the correct in/out points and I have removed the audio altogether.  I cannot export this back to FCP because the in/out points get scrambled again, so I have exported the timeline as a quicktime movie.
Now, in FCP Pro X, I have the Quicktime movie sitting as a connected clip above the original FCP Pro X timeline.  But it is not quite in synch and I guess the edit points are not always frame for frame correct.  To match up the new and old timelines I would like to be able to turn the connected clip on and off - but I can't see how to do this and I am not sure it is even possible.
I can skim the master track but this is very cumbersome.  Is there any way to turn off the connected clip as one would do in a normal editor with tracks?  Or is there a better way to align various points in the two tracks?

Ha. great!  Thanks for that.  I did know that!  But I couldn't find it by searching the manual and I have spent the last week immersed in Resolve so I have forgotten all the FCP shortcuts already...

  • Color correcting master clip/parent file

can I color correct the master clip and effect all of the affiliate clips in a timeline? Thanks

Only if you do the cc'ing prior to editing the footage into the timeline.
If the footage is already cut into the timeline, you could simply 'copy' the color correction then use 'paste attributes/filters' to the clips in the timeline.
Alternatively, you could set the color correction, drag it's icon from the viewer, into the browser then drag that to your clips in the timeline. Or, simply drag the icon (found at top left of color correction tab in the viewer...looks like two sheets of paper with a hand over them) directly from the viewer, onto the clips in the timeline.

  • Changing (master) clip name in browser window

    Hello,
Did a search for this but found very little and that which was found confused me. Does anyone know whether it's safe to rename clips in the browser window within FCP? And whether it maters if they are master clips or not?
I just got back from Iceland (went specificly to film) and captured each whole tape with "capture clip" letting FCP automaticly cut it up and name 1, 2, 3 etc. I wouldnt usually do this but I had to get it onto the computer quickly as I was so scared the tapes might break or get lost and the whole trip could be wasted.
Thanks in advance for any help.
PS running: iBook G4 1.2GHz, FCP 5, OSX 10.4.5, Pal HDV (HDV HC1) And I know it's not really fast enough for HDV but thats beside the point

You'll be fine. Just make sure you rename the clips within FCP's browser window, NOT the Finder. (Unless you want to re-import the clips and reconnect all the media) Cheers.

  • Mp3 duplication problem

For some reason my .mp3 files show up twice and in some cases three times in the media player. The strange thing is that I've tried to delete all music files and they still show up. I also tried doing a complete erase of all data using the Pre erase function and the mp3's all show up again when installed apps sync up again. It's like all mp3's have been merged with application data and sync'd to my profile.
Has anyone else run into this?
Post relates to: Pre p100eww (Sprint)

'Duplicate Files Deleter' helps to find out mp3 duplication problem & it has the complete solution regarding removal of duplicate files too.
    Thanks.

  • Font color not preserved in "Duplicate as Master Clip" operation

When I use Duplicate as Master Clip on a title clip, it does not preserve the font color. It's a pain to have to change the font color every time on what is supposed to be a duplicate.
Is there a way to copy and keep the same font color?

Frankly I don't know what you're doing (and I'm not so sure you do either). The only time the Duplicate Master Clip function is available is when an item is selected in the browser. It's not available to a title in the timeline that has been opened from the generators into the viewer. It is only available if the title is in the browser. How and why is this text generator getting into the browser?
Using the procedure you've described the application behaves correctly. The text if it's made as a duplicate master in the browser is a separate instance, and one dos not effect the other.
It really doesn't seem as if you're using the application the way it's designed to be used.
Why is it that when you put a clip into the timeline it has to be rendered? I'm still curious about that.

  • How to split one big master clip into many?

    Hi,
This is probably a simple question for you pros. Thank you for reading.
I have film that I've telecined onto a DV. However, FCP imported a one hour tape as one big master clip. Is there a way I can split this master clip into several small clips so I can organize my project?
    Does that make sense?
    Thank you in advance,
    Nik

Since you telecined onto DV I guess there are no Date&Time gaps between scenes, so you cannot use DV Start/Stop Detect. Then the only way I can think of is to do it manually: open the clip in the viewer, select the first scene by setting its IN and OUT points, edit to the timeline, back to the viewer select the next scene setting a new pair of IN and OUT points, edit to the timeline, etc.
If you prefer you can move each new clip to the browser, and collect them together into a bin, before editing them to the timeline.

  • Master /Detail create problem

    hi,everyone:
Firstly to say sorry for my bad English.
    Now I have a question:
I'm working in JDeveloper 10.1.3 .The model layer is SessionEJB /Toplink ,and the view layer is JSF. I have a data structure :
    HrUnit : Master
    HrHuman : detail
    HrKnowledge : detail
the <HrHuman>'s PRIMARYKEY is <ID>,and the <HrKnowledge>'s FOREIGN KEY is <RYID>.
and I want to make a page to insert a new row on <HrKnowledge>. I drag the <hrKnowledgeCollectionIterator> into the page as <ADF Creation Form>, the page run fine.
next step, I make <persistEntity> binding to the <submit button> and the parameters(entity) is
    ${bindings.hrKnowledgeCollectionIterator.currentRow.dataProvider}.
when i run the page , i get a wrong . i get the SQL in the <Unit of work > is
    "INSERT INTO HrUnit ....."
i create a direct mapping for the detail's foreginkey in toplink, and when i "rebuild" the map ,it gives me a warning. This warning affect my custom code in EJB,it can't work correctly. So i can't use this way in my question.
    Re: Master /Detail  create problem
    I beg your help.
    Thanks. and very very thanks.

    Hi,
I am not an expert in TopLink, but it appears to me that the TopLink model is causes your problems not ADF. There is a TopLink forum here on OTN that could give you a helping hand on this issue.
The following tutorial explains the use of TopLink in ADF

  • Can you change the sync of a master clip?

is there a way to fix the sync of a master clip
in a two camera shoot, one camera stopped for a few seconds, the other kept on going

you can cut the clip up and adjust the sync manually in a sequence (using one of the other camera clips as a guide) then export that sequence as a reference movie (or self contained) and use that instead of the original masterclip
