Hi
I can take a guess.
It means you can utilize Info Obj (IO) master data in reporting on ODS's.
For example:
You have 0MATERIAL in an ODS, so when you use it in a
query you can bring its master data Attribute to that
report without any extra work (same as in a Cube), it
is very powerful feature for reporting.

    Hi User,
Yes, You can do that with the help of Compounding.
    > Double click on InfoObject/Attr > Compounding Tab
    > Check the check box of MASTER DATA LOCALLY FOR SOURCE SYSTEM
With this option you can deal with Master Data which is coming from different Source systems for a Similar object.
Give the InfoObject name/Attr name under the Superior InfoObject column.
    This much only I know.
    Please explore on this further.

  • What is Master Data Consolidation?

    Hi Friends,
    what is Master Data Consolidation?
please explain this procedure with one good example?
    please....

    Hi,
    Master Data Consolidation means:
    1. Load master data from client systems
    2. Identification and consolidation of similar or identical objects
    3. Provision of key mapping for unified, company wide analytics and     business operations.
    4. It aggregate master data across SAP and non- SAP systems into    a centralized master data repository. Once data is consolidated, you can search for data across linked systems, identify identical or similar objects across systems, and provide key mapping for reliable company wide analytics and reporting.
In this scenario, these are the following steps:
    1. Users use SAP net weaver MDM to collect master data from several systems at a central location,
    2. Detect and clean up duplicate and identical objects, and manage the local object keys for cross-system communication.
3.With this consolidated data, users can access the information they need to perform company-wide analysis and consolidated.
For example: Suppose Wipro have different branches like: Wipro Technologies, Wipro Limited, Wipro Infotech and each branch is  doing business with the same customer. Each branch has its own name and is own id but overall it's a company called Wipro.
So, now if you see all these records are duplicate and hence give inconsistencies when this data is distributed in different departments of an organization. So we consolidate this data by sending it to MDM where all the information is consolidated, updated and managed properly.

  • Master data maintanance in ECC6.0

    Hi,
Master data is consistenly maintained in ECC6.0.My question is why we need sap-mdm?
    Regards
    Yugandhar

    Hi Yugandhar,
Looking at the importance of the master data, SAP MDM is specially introduced by SAP for managing the Master Data extensively. It focusses of various issues related with master data such as Duplication, Incorrect data, Missing data, No standard of Data, No Governance with a single tool - SAP-MDM.
This tool focusses not on transactions but on complete aspects so as to how to keep the master data in an organization clean. It provides a solution to all the listed issues above and many more. We might have a complex landscape where in many SAP-non SAP systems might be integrated and might be following their own standards, etc. Hence, this tool will act as a central hub of master data and provide a single version of truth to all the systems so that we have clean, complete and only 1 version of data.
SAP ECC also can maintain the Master data but it might not be able to handle various issues related to master data efficiently. SAP-MDM has an in-built Matching capability which helps up identify the duplicates. Also there is an easy provision of MDM workflows, which helps in maintaining proper authorizations and helps in Governance.
I would advice you to go through these links to know the features and use of SAP-MDM in a better way.

  • What is master data management

i want know clearly abut MDM in SAP.

    Hi naresh reddy  ,
    SAP NetWeaver MASTER DATA MANAGEMENT
SAP NetWeaver Master Data Management (SAP NetWeaver MDM) is an enabling foundation for enterprise services and business process management -- providing a single version of the truth for customer, product, employee, supplier, or user-defined data objects.
Working across heterogeneous systems at disparate locations, SAP NetWeaver Master Data Management ensures cross-system data consistency through interactive distribution. It integrates business processes across the extended value chain, delivering features and functions to enable:
Master data consolidation -- Consolidate master data for companywide analysis and reporting. SAP NetWeaver Master Data Management consolidates and cleanses master data objects from disparate systems. After consolidation, it stores information from different systems in a centralized repository. Related rich content can be included to augment the data store.
Synchronization and distribution of master data -- Enable consistent data maintenance and distribution to ensure permanent harmonization of master data. Using global attributes, you can ensure that all systems receive the same master data during distribution -- and enrich the distributed data objects with additional attribute values in the target systems. Distribution can be controlled, visible, and traceable, with active status management at each distribution step.
Centralized management of master data -- Supports companywide quality standards by ensuring that central control of master data begins as soon as the data is created. Centrally created master data can subsequently be distributed to client systems as required using interactive distribution.
Administration of master data -- Manage master data without custom code. A powerful interface supports administrative tasks such as data exception handling and assignment of role-based access to business processes and information. Data managers use the interface to configure data source merging, business rules, and distribution details to downstream applications.
Management of internal content -- Collect and centralize all your content -- including parametric information and rich content such as images, paragraphs of text, PDF documents, and organizational intelligence about content -- in an enterprisewide repository.
Catalog search -- Deploy intuitive interfaces that help you locate items internally, publish Web catalogs on e-commerce storefronts and in supplier enablement programs, and integrate easy-to-search catalogs into e-procurement solutions -- all from a centralized repository, and all at speeds surpassing normal SQL-based queries.
Print catalog customization -- Disseminate product information directly from a centralized catalog repository to popular desktop publishing programs, and automatically generate fully formatted and populated page layouts.
Multichannel syndication of product catalog content -- Publish restructured and reformatted extracts or incremental updates of your product catalog content -- and distribute them to trading partners in several delimited text and XML formats -- on an unscheduled or regular basis.
Business process support -- Enable communication in a heterogeneous environment, and insert master data into other systems.
Business analytics and reporting -- Leverage synchronized data for reliable analysis and accurate reporting.

  • What is Master Data Hormonization?

    Hi dear friends,
    1) What is Master Data Harmonization?
    2) please explain me with one good example? please...
    3) What are the SAP NetWeaver MDM  six core and business scenarios? Explain each with one example

    Hi,
SAP provides six scenarios u2014 or approaches to working with SAP NetWeaver u2014 to help companies maintain their master data while at the same supporting a flexible, innovative IT environment. These are as follows:
    1. Master Data Consolidation u2014
In this scenario, users use SAP NetWeaver MDM to collect master data from several systems at a central location, detect and clean up duplicate and identical objects, and manage the local object keys for cross-system communication. With this consolidated data, users can access the information they need to perform company-wide analyses and consolidated reporting.
    2. Master Data Harmonization---
This scenario enhances the Master Data Consolidation scenario by forwarding the consolidated master data information to all connected, remote systems, thus depositing unified, high-quality data in heterogeneous system landscapes. With this scenario, you can synchronize central data contents u2014 that is, globally relevant data u2014 based on your results. For example, you can assign the same address to all occurrences of a particular customer.
    3. Central Master Data Management---
Whereas the emphasis in the Master Data Harmonization scenario is on local data maintenance, the Central Master Data Management scenario focuses on cleansing data in the central data repository. It then distributes the cleansed data to the connected application systems.
    4. Rich Product Content Management---
This scenario is intended for the product information management (PIM) market, as it offers many functions for managing product data and corresponding image files centrally via SAP NetWeaver MDM. It can also be used to prepare for publishing product catalogs, either in electronic Web format or in print.
    5. Customer Data Integration---
The Customer Data Integration scenario lets you harmonize customer master data records across heterogeneous systems.
    6. Global Data Synchronization---
Through Global Data Synchronization, unified object information is synchronized with data pools, such as UCCnet and Transora, in a standard industrial format, then provided
    to trading partners.
Through these different ways of using the capabilities of SAP NetWeaver MDM, companies can structure a master data strategy around their data unification goals u2014 based on their unique business processes, organizational structure, or industry.

  • Difference between Consolidation, Harmonization and Central master data man

    Hi ..Expertise
Consolidation is use to identify duplicate records and merge them into one record.
Harmonization is the process of pushing the new cleansed data back out to your partner systems.
Central master data management means you create records within MDM and then you distribute (Syndicate) this centrally created data to your Remote Systems.
My Question is her after Consolidation both Harmonization and Central master data management is doing the same thing i.e. sending the clean data to the other system. What is the difference between these two? Please explain me with an example or scenario..

    Hi Yugandhar,
There are three basic scenarios that we follow in MDM:
    Data Consolidation
    Data Harmonization
    Central Master Data Management
    Consolidation :
Conolidation (matching , normalization, cleansing) and storage of master data imported from client system. Entails capabilities to identify identical and similar objects spread across the local systems , build consolidated master data.
    Key Capabilities:
    1. Cleansing and de-duplication
    2. Data normalization including categorization and taxonomy management
    3. New interactive consolidation capabilities
    Data Harmonization :
In case of Harmonization we generally aim at reaching high quality master data within heterogeneous system landscapes. Here the main focus is on ensuring high quality of master data within the connected systems and then distributing the Master data
    Key Capabilities:
    1. Automated synchronization of globally relevant master data information
    2. New Interactive distribution capabilities
    Central Master Data Management :
In case of CMDM, it is not always the scenario that the Client wants to go for the above two scenario`s, but CMDM is always required as it helps us to maintain the Business data effectively and efficiently.
After MDM is put into the business scenario all the operations related to the Master records are done in MDM only. For Eg: Creating a record, Deleting a record, Distributing a record etc.
Now it is the work of CMDM to centrally maintain the data and check that no duplicate enteries can be created.
And all the various systems that are attached to MDM gets the updates from CMDM with the help of Syndication Process or Distribution Process.
    Key Capabilities:
    1. Central creation and maintenance of data
    2. Ongoing master data quality
Hope this would be helpful !!!!!!!!!
    Regards,
    Parul

  • Change master data of business consolidation directly in the quality system

    Dear All,
I need to change master data of business consolidation directly in the quality system.
    Anyone an idea?
    Kind regards,
    Marilia

    Welcome to SDN.
There are SAP Notes 933024, 804057 and 592239 that provide a means of opening UCWB only for master data objects.
Another possible work around is to make the updates in BW and use the synchronization programs UGMDSYNC and UGMDSY20. However for FS Items and Cons Groups all of the master data elements such as breakdown category and period of first consolidation are not available for entry in BW so for these characteristics the maintenance must still be completed in UCWB.

  • Reg MDM - BP "Consolidating Master Data"  in Solution Manager

    Hi,
In solution manager there are standard Business Process (BP) and Business Process Steps (BPS) defined for each BP under any functional area. Similarly when we look at the standard BP for MDM we have "Consolidating Master Data" as one of the BP. Under that we have a two BPS called  1. <b>"Change or enrich records "</b> -  I understand that this BPS is referring adding or changing some field values in data manager. The second BPS is <b>"Use external data quality services to cleanse and enrich data"</b>. - I understand this step should be the Validation rules that we run. Is my understanding correct? because the 2nd BPS say "external data quality service" - this is where am bit confused.
    Your inputs are welcome !
    Thanks in advance

    Hi Arumgam,
Validations belon to <b>"Change or enrich records"</b>. <b>"Use external data quality services to cleanse and enrich data"</b> means that you can connect MDM to other third party services (e.g. for address data cleansing) using MDM's enrichment controller.

  • How Consolidated Master Data Gets Linked to the Transactional Data?

    Hi,
Suppose we have three legacy systems holding customer master data. We fetch the data from these three systems into MDM and consolidate the records. Let's say there were three customer master records:
CUST123, John James, 123 Elm Street
CT00123, James, John, 123 Elm St.
0000123,  John James, 123 Elm Street.
We merge them in MDM and create one record
NEWCUST123, James, John, 123 Elm Street
Question is: How the transactional data from the three legacy system will be mapped to this new customer master record? How the purchase orders will know that CUST123 is now NEWCUST123 ? When this mapping happens in a project and who does that?
    Regards,
    -T
    Edited by: mdm3north on Jul 21, 2011 2:30 AM

    HI,
I agree with Anil on that,it is the same reason for which few projects have key mapping repository in place, which holds the key field mapping information telling them that this Customer number means this in the Legacy system.
Well manual intervention is required as PR/PO which is active should be closed before such an activity.
    Thanks,
    Ravi

  • Error while deleting master data (Message no. RSDMD118)

    Dear all,
I am performing a test to create and delete new Company Codes in Consolidation Workbench.
Creation of new Company Codes went on successfully but deleting them give me the following error message upon saving:
    Error while deleting master data
    Message no. RSDMD118
Since they are new Company Codes, they have not been used and stored in any BW cubes. Any idea on why BCS prevents me from deleting them?
Appreciate assistance to troubleshoot and resolve this error.
    Thank you.

Thank you both for your replies.
I am sure those are not the case here as I deleted the Company immediately after creating it.
Just to make sure, I performed "Where-Used List" again and BCS confirmed that it is not being used anywhere:
Use of: Company UAT1 UAT Company 1
    Number of Uses Found: 0
However, the same error message was displayed again after I tried to delete the Company and save the configuration. Still can't find any solid reason behind this.

  • Modify Reconciliation Account of Customer Master Data

    Hi,
I need to change Reconciliation Account into master data for some customer
I've already changed the field  status group of customer by customizing, setting into area 'Company code data' the Reconciliation Account as optional entry.
But that field into master data of customer remain not editable.
    What am I missing?
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
    Best Regards.
    Eric

    Hi,
If you do not have data for the customer account, you can change directly.
But, if you already have data posted, this is the procedure of changing recon account, if you have data.
All Document Items that were created in the old account will be posted in the same old account when you have a payment posting, compensations, etc.
All document created after the change will be posted in the new account as well as the payment postings, compensations and others.
The system will separate the postings in accordance with the moment at the documents were created.
You should run balance sheet adjustment program after any reconciliation account change.
The system performs any adjustments required due to the change of reconciliation accounts or G/L accounts. The items from the old reconciliation accounts are allocated to the new accounts.
Since you cannot post to the reconciliation accounts directly, the postings are made to temporary adjustment accounts.
These adjustment accounts should be displayed along with the relevant reconciliation account in the balance sheet. The postings are then reversed after the balance sheet has been created.
The program for sorting the payables and receivables makes the necessary adjustments automatically. This means that you have to define the adjustment account numbers and the posting keys for these postings in the system.
If you purchase and install the FI-LC Consolidation application and have bought up a previous customer or vendor (thus also taking on his/her payables and receivables), please refer to the note in the report documentation on changed reconciliation accounts. To define the account numbers, select the activity Define adjustment accounts for changed reconciliation accounts in the Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable Implementation Guide.
You should only run this program if your new reconciliation account is classified differently from the original in your FS. e.g.. AR to Intercompany accounts. It will just reclassify the existing balance. The line items will not be transferred. If not then no need to run the program at all.
You can do a test in the development client before you do the change in the production.
    Good Luck,
    Raghu

  • SAP FC: Upload master data

    Hi,
I need to upload the master data of my dimensions.
I know I can copy the row from an excel file and paste them into my dimension.
However I need to upload directly an entire .csv file as we do with the data of a package, or for example using an ETL like SAP FIM.
    Is it possible?
    Thanks,
    Matteo

    Hi Matteo,
The only way to import master data (reference member of a dimension or reference table)  into BFC is to use the copy/paste function in EXCEL:
To copy/paste from Excel to SAP BusinessObjects Financial Consolidation
1.In Excel, select the columns or rows to be copied.
    2.Select Edit > Copy.
3.In the "Dimension Builder" module, in Load Data mode, select the reference table or dimension to  be filled in.
      4.Select Edit > Paste.
The progress bar displays information on how the import is progressing as well as the code of the
    member being pasted.
The "Import Result" dialog box appears with the result of the copy/paste performed.
For more details, you can refer to the section Copying and pasting reference members from SAP BusinessObjects Financial Consolidation to Excel in the user guide.

  • First Loading of Master data into ODS

    Hello BW gurus,
I have read the below mentioned sentence in a material stating that
'By using flexible updating, it is possible to write master data from different sources into a consolidated object (master data ODS object) before this is stored in individual master data tables.'
    1)  why master data from different sources is being written into ODS first , before it is stored in individual Master Data tables ?
    2) Is every master data from source systems first loaded into ODS  before it is stored in individual Master Data tables?

    hi,
    1) why master data from different sources is being written into ODS first , before it is stored in individual Master Data tables ?
Ans - In real time scenarios y may have to load data from various source system (liks sap,non sap, flat file).also more than on r3 source system is also possible. hence to have consolidation of the master data based on source system we load master data to ods first. but is not always. one few master datas like - Batch number, delivery number, invoice number. u can also load directly to master data tables using direct update.
    2) Is every master data from source systems first loaded into ODS before it is stored in individual Master Data tables?
not mandatory, it depends on requirement.
