Master data text missing in reports

Dear All,
In my report, some text for infoobject master data is missing. When I see the text table of that, entry for the interval containing 31/12/9999 is not there. I checked in R3 and there also this entry is absent. This is fine and no issues. This is in BI Quality.
Same is not the case in Production. Here entry is there in BI for 31/12/9999 in text table but in R3 Prod, entry is not there.
My question:
How come the entry is there in text table in BI Prod for 31/12/9999 ? Has someone extracted it earlier when there was an entry in R3 or there could be some other reason ? If someone has extracted it earlier, and now in R3 prod, entry is not there, then this should immediately reflect in BI ?
Please clear my confusions.

Fine with the answers. But how come the table in BI system is not in sync with the R3 ? Since the text is absent in R3 for the interval 31/12/9999, so it should be blank too in BI after the most recent update ? This is the property of master data.

I would just like to know if I can use the text I loaded of master data Revenue Type from R/3 in BW?

Now this is where I am having a problem. I need to know how to be able to use this Master Data text when I load line items (0EC_PCA_3) to my PCA ODS. As it is right now, I have setup the EC_PCA datasource, replicated it and activated it as well, and I have already added a Revenue Type characteristic to this datasource already and have mapped it accordingly. However, I am unable to pull any data when i manage the contents of the ODS, but i can see the it in the maintain master data. 
How can i set it up such that I am also able to match my line items with their corresponding Rev Type Text in the ODS results? It is important to note that for Sub Product A, B, and Product Line fields, the previous setup is able to do so, and I am able to see results for these in the ODS line items results. First of all, yes, I think we are on the same page regarding what I want to do... I have created a master data infoObject in BW, created a customized extractor in R/3 under CO-PA-IO node, and mapped them to each other in BW such that when i execute a package in InfoSource in BW, i am able to load master data text in InfoObject Rev Type in BW. 
Kindly explain more on "you should have created the revenue type as a text datasource and loaded the data into the text and not the master data". Do you mean to say that I should have just created a regular datasource (i.e. Flexible Update in any Data Target InfoSource), rather than a direct update of Master Data datasource? 
However, if this is what you meant, please remember that for other characteristics such as Sub Product A, B, Product Lines, Sales Region, Business Center etc. (as seen in FS10N tcode per GL), are reflected in ODS per line item, and they are setup as master data. So I was thinking maybe i just missed a step in mapping. 
Is this what you meant? My main goal is to be able to have the line items i load in ODS be matched to the particular revenue type for that GL's profit center (seen in FS10N tcode in R/3)

Master Data is missing for Specified Matierials at cube level !!

I have been facing an issue in my project, Master Data is missing for a KF and values are not displayed in a report for the specified matierial Nos. Where as other matierial nos KF values are displaying.
Intially, i checked from Cube End and found the issue is in Cube level only.
For that in the data flow, i already checked whether the data has been loaded perfectly or not.
Tried to reran the DTP once again and checked the values for the KF in the report and unfortunately KF values are not displaying for specified matierials only.
Kindly advice how can i move further..

Check if SIDs are generated for the infoobject, if not try to do the change run attribute and then load the data to Cube.

Profit Center Master Data text

HI All,
I have a few problems regarding the master data text for 0profit_ctr.
Our company has uploaded quite alot of historical data ( not my idea) to its master data.
The problem is that for each Profit center record we have two lines in 0profit_ctr, both with a different set of FROM and TO dates.
Only one of these records are we interested in and thats the one with To date of 31.12.9999.
What I want to do is for the system to upload the Text field of the profit centre regardless of the dates involved, at present the old record has no profit centre text and this is the record the reports are reading.
The system is only picking up the text record for the active profit centre.
I have tried deleting the from and To dates for 0profit_ctr_text but still the load fails.
Any ideas?

Is it a time dependent master data? Then you will not be able to delete the From and To Date.
If you are not interested in the validity of a profit center, You have to make it time independent.
Also when you say it loads Text..Where are you trying to Load. If you are trying to Update using a Routine/Code, Then while reading the master data, You can delete the records having Text as blank and then update to the Target Field.

Master Data Text and Attributes

Guys,
I read some posts on sdn regarding differences between master data texts and attributes and now I am a little confused. I thought attributes define a char. then what does text do? Does it not define or describe the char as well? If both are doing the same thing then why do we need both ? I am not sure if my understanding is correct. Please help me.

Hi Ram,
To understand in a better way little bit of R/3 work would have been helpful.
In R/3 Every entity has master data maintained like customer, material, plant etc.
If you would see a customer in R/3 you can see it has lots of information..like address,telephone number,street company name, etc.
And along with it we have customer name...i.e. description..(text)
Now in R/3...text tables are generally maintained separately then master data tables...it can be together as well.
Something like for you Ram Goswami is descrption(text) for the user ID XXXXXXX in SDN.
Email ID and company name is the master data stored here for him.
BW has used the same modelling concept to keep the text table separate from the msater data table.
It creates to separate data target for master data and text so that two seperate tables can be maintained in BW and you have to load the data in both to see the master as well as text.
Since we have separate master data table and text table in R/3 therefore we have separate data sources as well based on them.
You would like to have you master data table exactly as the master data table of R/3 so you will add attributes in the infoobject 0customer and it will create a P table for 0customer...keep adding attributes to make the columns in the table and to make the exact copy of R/3 table i.e. to bring all the information from R/3 about customer master you add attributes in the 0customer.The data soiurce based on this table in R/3 will contain the fields from the table.
Now you do the mappings with fields between infoobject and data source and load the data ...so master data is loaded.
For text...once you check the text option in infoobject..SAP creates a new table Tcustomer in the background..
Now you have to do the mappings for this as well through the data source based on the text table in R/3.
In some cases the master data table contains text as well and in that case you use the same data source based on this table to create two separate update rules one for master data object and another one for text object and do the mappings accordingly.
In this case you schedule the load to both the target at the same time and data gets loaded.
but for different data sources you will have to schedule the load separately.
Once data loaded for this...now you can use it in the report and see the text as well as master data attributes in the reports and there values.

click on your DTP (master data Txt datasource--> Master data text ), if this is present in Process chain, then on ryt click, the process chain option will be active. by clicking over that u can find the name in which this exists.

Effect of 'No update' for master data texts

Hello all,
I am using flexible update - update rules - for master data text. I want to confirm effect of 'No update' in following scenario
In the fisrt set of update rules -from first source system -I have mapped both short text and long text
Key | short text| long text
......| overwrite| overwrite
K1 | some SHTX| some LGTX
In the second set of update rules, I have selected 'No update' for Long text
Key | short text | long text
......|overwrite| NO UPDATE
K1 | some SHTX |
My loading sequence is first source system followed by second source system
what should be my ultimate long text and why?

your long text will not get changed.
Take the example you mentioned
Key | short text.....| long text
........| overwrite......| overwrite
K1 | some SHTX.. | some LGTX
In the second set of update rules, I have selected 'No update' for Long text
Key | short text... | long text
........|overwrite......| NO UPDATE
K1 | some SHTX. |
In the second set of update rules, you mentioned "No UPdate", So, when a record with the same key is found n Masterdata, it is not going to make any changes to the field Long text.
Where as short text will get overwritten.
Take some data for ex with the above mentioned type
data from source 1 : 2000 Maggi Noodles
data from source 2 : 2000 Feasters
when the data from first source system arrives, data will be 2000 maggi noodles
when the data from second source suystem arrives, as there exist this records with same key(2000), it checks for the other fiels
short text will be over written with the value in second system (according to rules its in overwrite mode)
Long text will not be updated as the rule says no update.

ECC Steps
then load the attr text
create the ztable using standard table using generic data source using table function.
there you can select the which field you required
check the data in RSA3
BI STEPS: -
check the source system connection.
replicate the data source
create of find the master data object for text (including attr)
map the transformation
run the info package
create the DTP.
check the data in target object.

Does a Master Data Change Log or Report Exist?

Does anyone know of a master data change log or report?
Such a log or report would show all changes made to cons units, cons groups, and items; including additions, deletions and changes to a hierarchy.
We hope to use this to synchronize cons group/unit and item hierarchies between BCS systems: Production and Development.
For example, if a master data change was made in the Production system, we would like to log the change, and synch this change back to the Development system.

Some detail of the findings for those who interested:
There is a "How to... trace changes to master-data and settings for SEM-BCS" which describes all nuances of tracking changes in MD.
The HowTo mentions the reports RSVTPROT , UGMD_DB_LOG_DISPLAY, and a t-code SCU3 that may show the changes.
Certainly the code of the reports might be taken as an example for writing your own code.
Though, the reports and the SCU3 are useful when the logging of DB tables changes is activated.

Master data text load failure?

My process chain for master data text has failed and i am getting the below error message?
error records written to the application log
error 4 in the update.

Hi,
I will suggest you to check a few places where you can see the status
1) SM37 job log (In source system if load is from R/3 or in BW if its a datamart load) (give request name) and it should give you the details about the request. If its active make sure that the job log is getting updated at frequent intervals.
Also see if there is any 'sysfail' for any datapacket in SM37.
2) SM66 get the job details (server name PID etc from SM37) and see in SM66 if the job is running or not. (In source system if load is from R/3 or in BW if its a datamart load). See if its accessing/updating some tables or is not doing anything at all.
3) RSMO see what is available in details tab. It may be in update rules.
4) ST22 check if any short dump has occured.(In source system if load is from R/3 or in BW if its a datamart load)
5) SM58 and BD87 for pending tRFCs and IDOCS.
Once you identify you can rectify the error.
If all the records are in PSA you can pull it from the PSA to target. Else you may have to pull it again from source infoprovider.
If its running and if you are able to see it active in SM66 you can wait for some time to let it finish. You can also try SM50 / SM51 to see what is happening in the system level like reading/inserting tables etc.
If you feel its active and running you can verify by checking if the number of records has increased in the data tables.
SM21 - System log can also be helpful.
In your case it is probably because of invalid character issue.

I have some problem about SAP BW loading.
while loading I'm getting this error "Master data/Text of Characteristic ZMAT already deleted"
and loading is failing.
So when I try to loading again sometime loading is completed but sometime is failed with this error.
I try to find out root cause and I check table RSMASD there is ZMAT entry this table.
How do I remove the entry?
How can I fixed this problem ??

Check if you can remove it from SM12.
If not (because it is not there), one of the notes says that you can write an ABAP code and run it to delete it.
I assume this is production, and you want a quick fix, so you may want to write a one-line code somewhere (for example in an obsolete infopackage - selection type ABAP routine) and run that. Check if you have access to write and test quick abap code somewhere (ie in SE30, or, in infopackage) the code would be something like
delete from rsmasd where CHABASNM ne space.
commit work.
I don't think its a problem if the load is running currently, this lock has existed from earlier so deleting it as soon as you can would be preferred.
