Master DVD

All my dvd's are burned from a disc image, sometimes multiple copies, without any problems, but have been told I should keep a master disc in case I need to copy later. Whats the difference and how do I create it? I presume img stands for image. What does cdr stand for? Thanks.

you can copy ANY (homebrewn) dvd... as long as you have ONE copy of a project, you can make infinite copies... in the digital era, there's no such thing as a "master"
but......
DVD is end-of-the-road, meaning, for playback only; if you want to edit your project later, you need a backup of your project, not of the final movie... iM projects are much larger then a dvd (diff. compressions); we have many discussions here, about back-strategies... I recommend usage of a external, firewire connected, MacOsEx formatted harddrive... very convenient and reliable...
other "backup": DVD-r are very .... fragile, esp. sunlight. so, it is highly recommended to export final-movie to miniDV tape (back to camera); magnetic tape is know as reliable (as long as you stay away from speakers, CRTs etc); again, that will store the MOVIE, not the project; it doesn't store the DVD (no menus), but has the highest possbile quality (dv instead of mp2)

Can't find upgrade master dvd for ERP 6.0 EHP4 !

Where can I find the upgrade master dvd for upgrade to ERP 6.0 EHP4 (windows/oracle) ? Does anybody knows the right materialnumber?
My collegues has copied the relevant dvds from sap upgrade dvd-package to disk and I don't find th "upgrade master dvd" with STARTUP.BAT.
I looked into download area service.sap.com/swdc:

but there are only upgrade export dvs, language dvd, etc, but NO Upgrade master dvd, too!!!

it is the Upgrade Master from NW701 which is also for EHP4.
Its located under the EHP1 Tree:
Installations and Upgrades" SAP Application Components" SAP ERP" SAP ERP ENHANCE PACKAGE" EHP4 FOR SAP ERP 6.0 / NW7.01" SAP EHP1 FOR SAP NETWEAVER 7.0.

SOLMANUP where to find upgrade master DVD?

We're upgrading sol.man. 701 to 71. I've used mopz to download all files, I'm using SOLMANUP to run the upgrade.
I'm still in the "Extraction phase", where I'm supposed to point out the directories for the upgrade. It complains for
"Enter at least the mount point containing "Upgrade master DVD" The requested Data Carrier is not mounted on any of the mount points you entered."
Where can I find Upgrade master DVD? At SWDC there are only Installation master DVD. and that is not working. Do I need to download the whole 12 files of Upgrade Export DVDS?
I can't find any logfiles to check what files sapup is looking for.
Why the h-l doesn't mopz supply all needed files for an upgrade?

this was verys helpful.
Now I get stuck at a further stage, In step configuration I did select the XML Stack file of Support Package Stack 3 which is included in DVD 51041574.
After checking EPS/in I get the following error:
ERROR: Unable to generate addon queue due to missing addons or support packages.
Missing Addon(s):
ST-BCO 710
The Enhancement Package Stack does not fit to the current system.
SP01 of ST-BCO 710 is included in EPS/in
Does anybody have an idea, what this is about?

Installation Master DVD Distributed Java System Copy menu missing

Hello Gurus
We want to perfom an Java system copy of our EP 6.0 using sapinst
The source OS is Solaris 8.0 with Oracle 10.2.0.2
The target OS is Solaris 10.0 with Oracle 10.2.0.2
Our architecture is Distributed , CI is running on a system and DB server on another system.
For this operation we use the master DVD 51033746_12 but we have an issue in exporting the DB as the
Option for exporting the DB on a Distributed system is not displayed on the sapinst Menu .
We followed the last guide taken from sap 'Homogeneous and Heterogeneous System Copy for SAP Systems Based on SAP Web Application Server Java 6.40 SR 1' and this option should be listed

Choose the installation service SAP NetWeaver u201904 Support Release 1--> Java System --><DB> --> Distributed System --> Migration - Database Export.
Unfortunately the Distributed system is not displayed and though we are stuck at the export step .
I could not find any sapinst patches . Is it a known issue for Soalris system and is there a Workaround .

Thanks for your answer . Unfortunately this option is not available as we are using a NW04 SR1 system , not a nw'2004's one . With the latest master install (Installation_Master_6.20_6.40_05_08 51033746_5 )we have the choice of
System copy Source --> Java system --> oracle --> Migration Data export
--> HA Java system --> oracle --> Migration Data export
System copy Target --> Java system --> oracle --> Central system-> Migration Data export
Target --> Java system --> oracle --> Distributed system -> Migration Target Central instance / Db instance install
The Distributed system is available for Import option but no for the export one .
My questions are :
- Can we use a master nw2004's master DVD for system copy on a Nw'04s one ?
- As the central instance is hosted on different system than DB instance , should I use the HA option ?

Hi All,
I did download the latest installation master DVD from market place but the SAPINST does not show up the steps to install a central instance.
Can any one confirm the same, if it is a common issue and a problem with the SOFTWARE Uploaded into market place recently (02-May-08) ?

I'm not sure I would call disk authoring a 'simple' process. Unless it's a very basic disk, or course, with but a single timeline and no menus. But the kind of disk we're using to seeing from Hollywood is anything but simple to create, and so not so simple to explain.
Might be time for some research.

If you have a Nw7.0 SR1 installation that has since been patched to be the same or higher level than SR2 - which master DVD should be used for a homegeneous system copy ? SR1 or SR2 ?
SR2 seems logical, but then you need also the DVD's (java etc) for SR2 which you normally wouldn't have around...

I will go ahead with the SR1 ones... when you do a Homogenoues System Copy you basically are installing a new system and then moving the database with all the patches from the source system.

Difference between a master DVD and a regular DVD

Can anyone explain to me the difference between a master DVD and a regular DVD. What is the workflow from FCP to compressor then DVDSP as far as bitrate settings etc? Thanks in advance!!

LOL - I wouldn't let it worry you... we all start somewhere.
When you click on 'Build and Format' you get a window appearing which lets you set all kinds of different parameters. At the bottom you will see two drop down boxes. Choose 'Hard Drive' in the top one, and '.img' in the second. This will tell DVDSP to create a disc image and put it in the location that you then specify. When done, you can double click this image and it will open like a DVD disc would - if you have got DVD Player running then your project will run as if it was on a physical disc (although slightly quicker).

Making master DVD from FCP Quicktime

Could someone please explain to me exactly what process, every step, I have to do to with my master FCP Quicktime movies in order to make a DVD master using iDVD? Its 4.8GB plus a second film of 2.4GB. Much appreciated!!!

but, what do you mean with DVD master?
Besides that, the key factor is not the file size of your source movie but the total lenght in minutes. Why don't you uses DVDSP?

Making a DDP Master DVD for a replication plant

I want to make sure I do this right before I send it to the plant... I formatted a DVD-9 project and I now have a Layer0 and Layer1 folder. My understanding is that I should provide the plant with a reference disc and also a DDP data disc for each layer. I am about to burn in Toast and was wondering whether I should a) create MAC and PC data discs that contain the DDP folders (layer0 and layer1), b) make discs that are named "layer0" and "layer1" and contain the control and image data from the DDP folders.
In general I have never sent a DDP to a plant before and I am not sure how they read these discs... what is the protocol here?

DVD-ROM (UDF) selection in Toast. I usually just drag Layer 0 in for first layer when I have used DVD-R (so the disc is Layer 0) and the same for the next layer. Also you should speak with your plant to see what they may want or prefer.

Multiple SAP systems in MSCS Master DVD

We are going to install a second SAP system in a MSCS cluster and following the installation guide "Installation of Multiple SAP Systems in MSCS: Oracle" I have been looking for the new installation Master CD for the Multi-SID MSCS Installation, but I haven't found it.
Do you know where can I find it? I suppose I do really need it, don't I?
If you have previous experience and/or tips and tricks, please don't doubtd to share them.

Master DVD - to de-interlace or not??

I'm mastering a 90 minute docu to DVD. The original is HDV. I'm using Compressor to make the MPEG2.
Half the audience will see it on their computers, the other half on their NTSC screens. Is there a 'standard' protocol out there now for DVD's? Whether to de-interlace for better computer LCD viewing, or leave interlaced for NTSC screens?

I also did a short production in HDV and made copies in SD DVD and then compressed to h.264 for web. You can see the result here:

I know it's small, not my decision or dept. but as you can see there are no interlacing issues. I did not deinterlace, just simply converted the file to h.264. If you are wondering I cut it in native HDV and not ProRess.
If in doubt simply make a 30 second version of your doc in the final formats it'll be and view then how the viewers will. Hope this helps.

Upgrade to Solution Manager 7.1 missing Master upgrade DVD

I'm upgrading Solution Manager 7.0 EHP1 to Solution Manager 7.1 . I've got the following error;
Please enter mount points for the DVDs required for the upgrade.
Enter at least the mount point containing "Upgrade master DVD"
I Can't find this "Upgrade master DVD" on market place. I've opend an OSS message but no answer yet. Anyone had that problem?

I had the same issue. It turns out that what it was really asking for was a SAP Kernel DVD in the correct format.
When I downloaded the SAP Kernel DVD from the Market Place, the Zip file included a directory for my platform at the first level on the DVD, and then in that directory it contains the LABEL.ASC file.
You need to ensure that when you stage the Kernel DVD, the LABEL.ASC files etc should be in the Top Level directory, or it won't be recognised as a DVD, and you'll get the erroneous message about needing an "Upgrade Export DVD" (which does not exist for Solman 7.1).

SRM 4.0 Installation Master and Oracle Installation

Dear Members, I am trying to install SRM 4.0 in sandbox using the SRM 4.0 Installation Master DVD. The question I have is does this installation take care of Oracle Installation also or should I install Oracle 9.2 first and then use the SRM Installation Master DVD to install the SRM. I am using SRM on Linux and Oracle. Appreciate expert advice. Thanks in advance.

Copying DVDs No Longer Working

Hello all!
I did some video productions last year, edited them with iMovie and burned the master DVDs with iDVD. They work great in DVD players and when I insert them into one of my Macs, DVD player automatically opens, goes to full screen and begins the program as it should.
A couple of months ago I made copies, simply by copying the two folders from the master DVD onto the hard drive, inserting a blank DVD, copying the two folders from the master onto the blank DVD and burning the DVD copy, as you would a data DVD. It worked great, both in DVD players and when inserting into my Macs, just like the masters.
Now, however, when I do the same precedure, the copies are not working in my Macs. They still play on consumer DVD players, but when I load them into my Macs, DVD player opens but does not go to full screen, and the small DVD Player screen which remains black says "Supported Disc Not Available" when I hit the Play button.
What am I doing wrong? Thanks!

i would not drag the two folders. I'd make an image of the DVD or use Toast to copy the DVD.
