Master file video lagging

This may be a Quicktime issue, but I'll start here. So I've tried exporting my project as both pro res 422 and HQ. In both scenarios upon playback in Quicktime after 8 seconds or so the video falls out of sync with the audio. It's like the video has fallen behind. If I hit pause, the audio stops instantly and the video will continue to play for a second or two until it has caught back up to real time. It will then be synced back up, but falls behind within seconds. I've exported some lower quality exports and they playback fine, highest quality is my highest concern. Also worth noting, on initial playback i can see that the video desyncs at the same frame every time. If i pause and let it resync, then rewind frame by frame a few frames before the desync occurs, it will make it through that spot synced up fine, but then desyncs a few seconds later. This is leading me to believe that the file may be fine and that quicktime is having problems processing it? Any input here is greatly appreciated. This is also my first time using Final Cut, so hopefully I've just missed something easy.

my files are H.264. So does that mean I can only export as that? I've just compared the quality of the laggy pro res 422 to a H.264 export and special effects, mainly the kaleidoscope, have much more detail in the pro res version.

  • I am trying to export a video I have made in FCP 10.0.8 to Youtube or to a master file and I keep on getting an error -50, or "error exporting master file at frame 20074" Any ideas?

Having used FCExpress for a while I decided to give FC Pro X a trial, I created my first video with it, exported to youtube and it worked fine.  I am now trying to export my second video to youtube and I get an error -50 which means absolutely nothing.  Not being defeated that easy I tried exporting to a mster file using the H.264 codec and I get an error "exporting master file at frame 20074" - again another useless error.  It takes at least 10 minutes to get to this error after the rendering has started, it gets about 12% in.  Any ideas where to start - I am seriously at the point of giving up with Final Cut Pro X simply on the basis of it being more trouble than its worth - I am just glad I did not pay for it yet...
Any help would be much appreciated.

    Hi Russ,
Thanks for your response. I am not an experienced user of FC or other video editing software but if its that hit and miss I think I will go to the trouble of finding some better software - I have a busy enough life as is, I don;t want to get into second guessing what a software problem might be!
I have just successfully exported my video to a master file using one of the Apple codec options so it looks like it could be to do with the H.264 codec.  I am wondering if Apples Compressor software would solve this problem - the only way to try this it to buy it, there is not trial for the compressor app.  Any ideas?
    Thanks

  • Export Pal SD video -- H264 Master file

When EXORT PAL SD video (720x576) in the Master file H264, BitRate output is approximately 2.7 Mb / s
Everything is OK if the image is static and no zooms or panoramic Svenka, then losing image quality.
My question, if anyone knows how to increase the bitrate to a higher value (eg 5Mb / s).
Why do you ask ... In one or another situation when the export to MOV you can not keep interlaced video, and I need it. In fact, all other options export videos in H264 mov true progressive video.

I'm not sure what I can say that will be helpful to you.
DV is what it is. The bit rate is what it is. Having created something in  DV (or DVC PRO) PAL or NTSC, you cannot increase the quality by raising the bit rate in another codec. If you export as h,264 at whatever bit rate and the problems are either eliminated when viewed on your computer or substantially reduced, it will be pretty conclusive that the problems are interlaced artifacts – because, as you have correctly noted, FCPX de-interlaces when H.264 is selected.
t may be helpful if you could post a screen shot of the type of image problem you are talking about.

  • Looking for some help with an error message when exporting master file. I'm stuck and would even pay to get this sorted out!

Hey guys, I'm really in a bind here and need some urgent help tonite. I would even be willing to pay for some actual help and not some vague information that i may not be able to understand if we could do something via skype or some other way that would be much quicker than a message board. Of course I have to have the project done by tomorow . so I'm new to fcpx, but have succesfully exported 2 other projects. I've also ran into this predicament before (error message not allowing me complete export) and have been able to solve that by converting the files i imported off my camera (canon g20) to a different file type (prores).
so where I'm at now: i have a 13 min short, all shot on my canon g20, imported and converted to prores422 with the brorsoft video converter with all the shots in a single event in fcpx. i'm using fcpx version 10.0.08. I have one main video track in my timeline that is completely full of very fast edits. (all quick 2-5 second clips, sped up shots in 2x, 4x, or 8x, tons of transitions, titles, and a little fx. theres 2 audio tracks, one is narration/speech and the other is an ongoing music track that constantly ducks everytime the subject speaks (tons of ducks/edits). Have you seen mtv cribs? Well i filmed an EXACT replica. So If you've seen one of those episodes, its literally the same exact same thing. I have all of my work completed, everything has been fully rendered, and i have it exactly as I want it.
I'm including all this information in case it may help. my successful projects ive exported in the past were rather simple, and this one is very complex and full of edits. here is what it looks like in the timeline:
Ive tried exporting the master file using almost all the different ways with no luck. My primary objective is to get it on youtube by any means by tommorow for a showing to a potential buyer (long story) and so I've been told using the h.264 is the best format for that. This, along with the other methods give me the same error message:
It think it gives this error message when i reach 24% everytime during export.
So first of all, what is that error message? Do i need to be concerned about the specifics of it, or is there something major that I'm missing? Like i said, i dont care how, but I need to get this video up on youtube tonite for an important viewing tomorrow. Conceptually, I think if i can figure this one out I shouldnt have any more trouble in the future doing something so basic, yet critical, such as exporting my 40+ hours of work for someone to see.
anyway, I apologize in advance for my lack of knowledge with this software, and for my extremely long winded question which will probably have the opposite effect for me as most wont want to take the time to read all this, BUT i figured if i was as thorough as possible it might help actually getting a concrete answer, instead of a "read the manual, exporting is on page 37." or "use the share button on the right of the timeline then just click export master file and it will work everytime."
Cheers everybody, and thank you. Like i said if someone is up, and willing to talk via skype, phone, messanger or any other method that works for you I would be totally down and will compensate you generously for your time. thanks again.
    Taphabit

boom! that advice was correct and worked. i was able to export the full project as a quicktime movie and it can be uploaded to youtube.
NOTE, theres is definately quite a few noticeable audio glitches/lags/pops that werent there before doing this. I believe, and will test to make sure, that having a project such as this one needs to render before exporting. I'm not sure if the advice requires the project to be unrendered before exporting for a specific reason, because if it will export fine after rendering the project that's the way to go. like i said the edited version i have in my timeline plays back perfectly but this exported version has quite a few noticeable audio glitches (a few video glitches too). I'm going to retry doing the first few steps of your advice, but then at the end render, then export and compare the results...
OK, so this leads to a big question, Is this something that is standard for everyone when trying to export? If its not, what causes this error?
is there any way of preemptively avoiding it in future projects?
thanks again, and hopefully this information will help others as exporting seem to be one of the biggest problems in fcpx. any word on a new patch or firmware update?

  • Exporting The Master File, AVI Uncompressed.

    Hello Everyone.
I want to know what Is the best Export Setting to Export my 1920 by 1080, 30 fps,  Edited Version movie, so I can have a File that Is not Lossless.
from there I can always Export to other settings such as You Tube, or even D.V.D.
My concern Is to have the best possible File, I have Plenty of Disk Space so It is ok for me To save them In My Hard Drive.
    I use the MPEG2- HD 1080i 29.97.
Also I have a choice of using  the: Match Source High bitrate.
My friend told me,  the best Export setting for the Master file Is:  AVI ( Uncompressed) with the Quality Slider to 100 percent, and check the Use Maximum Render Quality  box Checked. Then you have nothing to worry about, and later you can export that to what ever version you like.
Please let me know, which one Is correct.
Once Again Thank you very much.

...so I can have a File that Is not Lossless.
    I'm confused.
Surely you meant you want a lossless file for archive.
Here are a few recommended free codecs.  I prefer Ut for archives.
All of these are better choices than using .avi Uncompressed.

Lagarith Lossless Video Codec (pc only / .avi /  lossless)

  • How can I change (or select) what is being being used when I share, as the file cover. When I Share lets say "Master File" i want to select a frame that is used as the file cover. So when its on my desktop I see this image as the file icon.

How can I change (or select) what is being being used when I share, as the file cover. When I Share lets say "Master File" i want to select a frame that is used as the file cover. So when its on my desktop I see this image as the file icon.

I don't think Finder does this (I've tried).
iTunes does though. Where you can set artwork or the "poster frame"...
This may not be what you want but if it helps, I know 2 ways  do this is
Open the video in QuicktimePlayer7 | View | Set Poster Frame (even then, you might need to save it as .mov (ie in a 'mov container').
Drag the file into iTunes and set the artwork (as in http://www.dummies.com/how-to/content/adding-album-cover-art-or-images-in-itunes .html)
From there, iTunes will use that frame as the "poster frame" ie the photo/frame that shows when you browse your videos. Which is what you want, but limited to iTunes.
When I do either of these above, the frame I set does not show when exploring files in "Finder" (or in the other Explorer tool I use called "Pathfinder").
So it maybe, that exactly what you want, is not possible.

  • Where is the Contacts Master file when using iCloud?

It used to be when I used "MobileMe", I was very clear about where my Master file was for my CONTACTS (fka Address Book) information.  I could make changes on my iMac and then push them to my iPhone and iPad and evrything worked and synce perfectly (via iTunes).
When iCloud replaced MobileMe nothing seems to be right anymore.  Updates on my phone don't show up in my iMac Contacts.  All my contacts in my iMac are now duplicated to most things are there twice.  And I'm afriad to deactivate iCloud becasue of the onmious "...iCloud will delter these files from your device." message.
Could you possibly have taken something that worked so well and screwed it up any worse?
I am a long time APPLE user and I have "gotten" most things that Apple has done in the past 20 years.  But iCloud seems to confound me on numerous levels.
Where should I make changes and updates to my Contacts files so it flows to all my devices?
Why does the Contacts file in my iMac now have duplicate entires?
Why don't iCalendar updates I make in my iPhone transfer over to my iCalendar on my iMac?
Is anyone else having troubles with something the used to work so perfectly?
    Frustrated in Denver....

iCloud uses a server-client model in which your contacts and calendars reside in your account on Apple's iCloud server.  Your computers and iOS devices simply interact with the data on the server.  When any client device makes a change on the server, that change should be immediately seen by the other client devices signed into your account.  This video may help explain what's going on: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OBf7Uzv1OmQ&feature=player_embedded.
That said, changes should be bi-directional; any change made on one device should be replicated on the others.  Since that's not happening for you, something isn't working properly.  To troubleshoot this, you start by determining wich of your devices is the problem.  Open you contacts on icloud.com (the "master" list), then add a test contact on your phone and on your Mac and see which one fails to appear on icloud.com.  Then do the same thing with your calendar: add a test event on your phone and your Mac and see which one fails to appear on your calendar on icloud.com.
Let me know your results and we'll take it from there.

  • Sharing My Master File in FCPX

I am working on Final Cut Pro 10.1.3, although my problem has been reoccurring through several versions.  Although my original footage (1920x1080) appears clear and without any fragmenting within the timeline, when I share the footage as a master file, the .mov is very fragmented. I have rearranged my settings before sharing the master file numerous times, but cannot find any outcome that is sufficient.  I have an example of this fragmentation posted as an unlisted video on YouTube, http://youtu.be/0-c2Pe3ABWs When this video, Clip #56 (FCPX), is viewed in 1080p, this fragmentation is very noticeable.
As a test, I placed the same footage in iMovie and exported the footage.  The exported .mp4 file does not show any fragmenting. I have an example of what I would like it to look like in FCPX as an unlisted video on YouTube, http://youtu.be/YqqWkttAyHM When this video, Clip #56 (iMovie), is viewed in 1080p, there is no fragmentation.
I would like to know if the exported clip in Final Cut Pro can possess the same quality as that exported clip in iMovie.  There has to be a way. If anyone has any insight, please help me with this matter.
    Sincerely
    FLCurrent

It's not a playback problem. You can see it clearly if you download the 1080p HD version, which is actually 1080i.
    Maybe you'll see the image.

  • Why, when exporting as master file from FCX, I have problem with sync

I edited all audio of a short movie in protools, bounced a stereo file, imported it in final cut and shared the master file at prores 422, from there through compressor I have created 2  files (mpeg 2 and ac3) and burnt a  dvd but seems always to be out of sync , why?
fortunately  i still have dvd studio pro that allow me to "nudge" the  audio to fix the problem, but all this is quite time consuming.
    any advice?

I have fixed some issue about audio and video, created a new project with correct sample rate, imported the master video at same frame rate, and in pt bounced  a new track of audio, so  no orange bar, everything fine in FCX,AUDIO AND VIDEO PERFECTLY IN SYNC.  i exported a master file at best current setting and in compressor have created a dvd setup hi quality, 2 pass vbr encoding mode etc
and.. imported the m2v file and ac3 in DVD STUDIO PRO, and on time line i hear out of sync, now i don't know if the problem happen during the encoding in compressor or is dvd studio pro.

  • MXF OP1a Master file converted to Blu Ray in AME to .m4v showa up in Encore as Untranscoded

Just started creating Blu Ray DVDs from MXF OP1a AVC-I 100 Master files.
I use AME to convert to BR matching the settings of the master. It converts successfully creating  video .m4v and PCM files.
When I import them into Encore 6.02, the Project window info displays the video file as  " Remix. m4v    Video file      Untranscoded".  And     " Remix.wav   WAV audio   "Untranscoded"
Whats up with that? If they have been trancoded by AME why does Encore say they are Untranscoded?

The project panel shows both the DVD and the Bluray transcode status/settings. Make sure you are looking at the Bluray column.
What is the audio format for your disk settings? If set to dolby, Encore will show your pcm as untranscoded. Also, try changing the setting for the pcm asset to "do not transcode."
    Are you using 5.1?
I use AME to convert to BR matching the settings of the master.
Are the settings of the master BD compliant?

  • How to Split Master File into Multiple Small Files?

Sorry if this has been addressed - I'm having a hard time finding the answer.
I'm using FCE 4.0. I taped 4 hours of material and need to deliver the footage to someone in discrete chunks. I tried to do in/out capture but for some reason that wasn't working - something to do with the timecode. So I did full tape dumps.
So now I have 4 huge files (4 miniDV tapes) that are too big to deliver as-is. I used DV Start/Stop Detect to set markers, then used that to create sub-clips. But of course this doesn't actually affect the master scratch files.
What's the best way to convert these sub-clips to individual mov files? If I do an export of each file ("Using QuickTime Conversion..."), don't I risk losing information or possibly quality? Isn't there some way to highlight all my sub-clips in the bin and say "Mega-Chop Activate!" or something?
Or, taking a step or two back, if there's another way I should've approached this, please let me know. There'll be more. Plenty more.
    Thank you.

I'm burning mov source to DVD for FC editing by someone else.
Your second set of questions actually gives me some ideas - that's exactly what I'm trying to figure out.
As an example, let's say 1 tape, i.e. 1 master file, holds 5 interviews. I want to deliver 5 individual files/clips, say 3 on DVD A, 2 on DVD B. (Assume for the sake of argument that the math works out and there's no other way to deliver this.)
    - Does creating a different project for each "chunk" result in a different file in the scratch folder that can be burned to DVD?
    - Does "Print to Video" create QT files? I thought this output back onto tape.
    - By "Export to QuickTime" are you referring to Export->QuickTime Movie (as opposed to Export->Using QuickTime Conversion)?
    - Does Export->QuickTime Movie result in lossy conversion or does it automatically retain the original capture quality?
    - Is there a way to do all 5 exports at once or must they be done individually?
    Thanks for the fast response!

  • Sharing FCPX Pro Res 422 .mov master file with both Ps and Macs

I'm using FCPX 10.1.4 on Mac OS 10.10.2. I want to put a FCPX Pro Res 422 master file on a data DVD so it can be read and poled on both a Mac and PC using Quick Time 7. I tried using Toast 12 to create a data DVD playable on both a PC and Mac but it would not open on the PC. Any ideas what the problem might be or an alternative way to do this?
    Thanks

One additional possible point of confusion: I think you wrote (or meant to write)  "so it can be read and played."
A playable DVD is a very specific standard of filenames & compression sufficient to fit a two hour movie into 4.7GB of standard def video.  Simply writing any video file onto a disc (maybe marked as "DVD-R") never creates a DVD that is playable in standard DVD players.
Given that, you can transfer any file (up to 4.7GB) by writing it onto a data "DVD" disc.  However, as others point out, ProRes isn't windows-friendly (or good for small files) and just for seeing the video on other platforms, H.264 would be the right choice.

  • Export as a master file FOR Youtube?

I want to export my videos for uploading to Youtube, however at the moment the file size is enormous (we're talking 6gb for a 4 minute video), which of course takes forever to upload.
I want to export it as a master file, rather than exporting it directly to youtube within FCPX, because I want to have an actual copy of the file on my computer, as well as the fact that I've been having some trouble with the youtube sign in through FCPX, so basically I've just been export in as a Master File with all the default settings for 1080p.
Anyway, what settings should I use to get a good quality video that isn't so enormous that it takes ages to upload?
Sorry, I'm pretty new to this, and kind of teaching myself as I go along.
When uploading to Youtube, it suggests uploading a different format for faster processing/uploading...
So I clicked the link to the help centre where it talked about how to encode the video. But I'm still trying to learn all this, so I'm not sure if this is something I need to do when i first start the Project, or if there are settings I should change when I export it as a Master File, or if there is something I've just missed altogether.
I'll include screen shots of Youtube's recommendations.
Any help or advice would be hugely appreciated Thankyou!

    My suggestion: keep it simple.
The simplest way is to export a master file AND also export to youtube. There is nothing preventing you from making several exports of the same material!
(As it happens, you can also do this "double export" in one fell swoop, using destination bundles - but, again, keep it simple; you can learn that later).
Anyway, you certainly don't need Compressor. Compressor is only useful if you need something specific that FCP X can't directly provide - but that usually means an experienced user who knows his/her way around the arcane compression options - in other words, complex stuff.
If you don't want to use FCP X to export directly to youtube: just export a Master File, but instead of the default (which is ProRes, and, as Karsten explained and you acutely felt, produces massive files), choose H264. Then upload via the youtube site.

  • Error 108 when exporting in Master file

My project is a 2-hours multicam edit. And I have this error 108 when I go to the Final Cut Pro X share menu and select "Master files" (Fichier Master" en français).
After a certain period of time, an alert will appear with this number.
What I don't get is why it's working when exporting with the other entries from this Share Menu !
Ps : I saw that this question was replied quite a time ago, but the given solutions don't work for me.
    (Mac Pro (Mid 2010) - OS X 10.8.4 - memory - 16 Go - FCP X 10.0.9)

    My project is 1920 x 1080 - 25i - surround - 48 khz
When I use the export menu, it is said Video Codec : Source is Apple ProRes 422
RAM is 16 Go - Hard Drives have plenty of room avail.
As you might know this problem is known but never found any help. some say it's a bug...

  • How long to share a simple 1080 project to Master File on 2013 iMacs or Mac minis?

A friend has just bought a new basic 21.5"  iMac.
He has made a simple 1920x1080 (AVCHD) project lasting just under an hour.
It took him 15 minutes to share it to an H.264 Master File.
Put another way, the sharing process was about a quarter the length of the video.
A similar project on my 2008 iMac would take me around 3 hours to share, so it appears that his iMac is around 10 times faster than mine.
Is 15 minutes for an hour long video normal for a bottom of the range iMac?
What time does your computer take to share an hour of video to H.264?
You could just test it with a 1 minute clip to get a rough idea.
Needless to say I'm sick as a parrot!

If I knew a new iMac could export 10x faster I would be very happy but I have a feeling that if I bought one it wouldn't be anywhere near as fast.
As you say, it's probably the GPU that does it but my friend's iMac probably will have one of the integrated graphic cards. (I haven't seen it as he lives over 300 miles away!)
Given a "general" test with Geekbench his iMac is only about 3 times faster than mine but obviously the graphics card gives it much more speed when exporting video.
