Master in sync but Final Cut capture out of sync?

We have been capturing digibetas into final cut using the AJA proIO onto our new MacPro xeon. On a number of occasions the quicktime movie that is generated drifts out of sync. The Master is in sync. When we recapture the video the quicktime is fine.
Anyone have any ideas, all the drivers are up to date and we are using the most recent version of FCP. We never had this problem when we were capturing on our G5 powermac.
thanks

I've solved my sync problems by being sure the audio setting for capturing matches the audio you are importing. There are also posts on this in the archives.

  • TS4522 I have a finished project, but Final Cut Pro has grayed out the export option. How do I fix this to upload my file to youtube and burn dvds?

Hi guys, I really need help trying to figure out why Final Cut Pro will not allow me to export my project. I have done this in the past and had no problems at all with other projects, and I have done nothing different from what i can tell. Any help???

    Hey Tom,
Thankyou for your help. No, I have done this and it does not work. I have tried clicking and dragging, selecting the file in the project library, selecting individual files etc etc etc. The only thing that may have helped me out was last night...I clicked on a tab in FCP on the far right side (that must have something to do with exporting as well) and a small screen popped up after clicking it stating i cannot export the file while it is still referencing media off of the camera. I dont understand this either? I do have to have my camera connected before FCP will RECOGNIZE the media clips, but they have all been imported to my external hard drive and once i click import from camera, it is complete within seconds, so the hundreds of video clips i am using are obviously saved on there somewhere already....im at a loss here as to what to do. Do i have to literally download ALL MEDIA in each project to my computers hard drive before final cut pro will allow me to export any of the projects i create?? This seems like such backward thinking...I dont have nearly enough room on my computers intenal memory to do this with all my video clips!!!

  • Final cut captures but iMovie won't

Using Sony A-D converter box, firewire, NTSC DV. Final cut recognizes this and captures, but iMovie HD will not.

    Thanks Sue
Unfortunately following the steps in that article don't help. I also tried the same on my Macbook- iMovie only gives a choice to use built-in iSight. iMovie doesn't recognize the Sony DVMC-DA1 converter on either computer. Yet Final Cut initializes and sees video right away if you select capture, so the DV-Firewire signal must be getting in there. Any ideas?

  • Exactly what DV format does Final Cut Capture?

Hello, prepare to be amazed by my ignorance.
I just about to buy Final Cut Pro for my G5 and my Intel MacBook.
I have an old Canon XM1 (GL1 in the U.S.) and I noticed that I can capture direct from the camera in iMovie, without have to use the tape. I've been told that this is 'reduced bandwidth DV' and that only Final Cut Pro can capture raw DV.
My questions are these, will I be able to capture raw DV from my Canon XM1 (GL1), direct to my machine, using Final Cut Pro?
Also, if not, what is the quality of 'reduced bandwidth DV' compared to the compression of Mini DV? I know that iMovie direct captured 'RBW' DV has some audio issues but this isn't important as I am re-dubbing.
    Thanks for your time.

Intel MacBook Pro and G5   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

    Hello again...
DV is DV and is already compressed. It is compressed in the camera when you film, so the data that actually goes onto the tape is 'raw', compressed DV data.... and has a compression ratio of 5:1
I think you've picked up the term 'compressed miniDV' from somewhere and let it get stuck in your brain.
miniDV is the format, and like i said, it is compressed, but that is the nature of the technology.
When you work in iMovie, it captures the DV in a different way, creating a different type of DV file than Final Cut... is has the .dv extension. Now, i'm not a regular user of iMovie, so won't mislead you, but i believe that the iMovie DV data is missing timecode info, and other little idiosyncracies. This might be where you are getting mixed up... it's not the DV format that is different, but the software you are bringing it in to that is different,
Remember... iMovie and Final Cut Pro are very different applications...

  • Master Templates missing on Final Cut 7

I am running on Lion, and installed final cut pro 7. But master templates are missing. Is that because master templates are not compatible with Lion?

The usual cause of not seeing Color Correction is the user is looking at the the wrong clip or has applied the CC to the wrong version of a clip.
For CC not to be working, none of your effects would be working.
Can't help you with the render question. You have not provided any useful information.

  • Final Cut capture

I use Final Cut Pro and I'm having problems capturing dv footage. The film was recorded in letterbox format. My capture settings are set to DV Pal 48Hz as well as my sequence preset and when I play it the image is stretched. I tried to import film recorded in 4:3 and capture it to Final Cut and the image apeears to be fine. I tried different presets in capture and in sequence as well and the same problem appears. My question is... What preset must I use to capture my media so it doesn't become stretched in the sequence?

    sorry,
    1) are you sure the animorphic setting is not selected on the clip you've ingested?
2)have you done a easy set-up, created a new sequence and dropped the clip down?
3)when you dropped the clip on the timeline was you asked to change the sequence settings to match the clip?
it does'nt sound like a serious issue i just don't think i got you properly. another thing are you capturing via capture card or firewire?, if firewire is there any setting on the camera/deck that you may be missing out that could be causing the footage to be misinterperated? if you reveal the clip in finder and open in quicktime player how is it displayed/ properties etc.
    regards.

  • 5.1 surround audio into Final Cut Studio out to AVI file with 5.1 surround?

Someone wants to give me a 5.1 surround sound audio file for importing into my Final Cut Studio project, then I export my video (now with 5.1 surround) out to an AVI file with the 5.1 surround sound intact. How do I do this?
    thanks

    I also have this problem...
Purchased an HD TV show (Nip/Tuck) and selected the alternate audio track labeled "Surround Audio" and got that digital audio "NOISE".
Regular audio sounds fine - can play iTunes music and system sounds sound good, just can't select the alternate "Surround" audio track without getting the noise.
I'm on an "older" MacMini - Intel CoreDuo using the SPDIF optical output into a Pioneer 5.1 receiver set to the appropriate Optical input and "Dolby Digital". I attempted to change the audio input processing on the receiver...all of which have the noise described by others...
Would LOVE a solution to this problem...

  • I have just downloaded Yosemite but Final Cut Pro will not work can you help

Hi, I have, two days ago, updated my Mac with OS Yosemite only to find the programme Final Cut Pro no longer works.  Can you explain please
    imac 27" Mid 20l1
    Processor 3.1GHZ intel core i5
    memory 4GB 1333 MHZ DDR3
Please do not get too technical. Thanks

    Glad you got it going.
I might suggest reading up on it starting here

as the new version is very different from what you're used to.

  • Synching in FCP - Video at 24, but final cut reading BWAVS as 23.98!!!???

    Hi
I have Arri D21 rushes transcoded to Apple Pro Res HQ at 24fps. I'm attempting to symch with seperate sound but for some reason the rushes are out of synch.
When I drag the audio into a blank seq it seems to want to read the audio as running at 23.98 fps instead of 24.
If I drag the audio in a seq set up for 24fps video a green process bar appears on the audio!
The audio is running at 48Khz at 24 bit integer, they are broadcast wavs.
can anyone out there help me?

Then you did it right. Delete the audio, then change settings.
The audio doesn't have a timer in it. Neither does the video.
The video contains a specific amount of frames, regardless of how many seconds/minutes it took to capture those frames. The audio has a specific number of samples, regardless of how many seconds/minutes it took to capture those samples.
One minute of audio will always match one minute of video, as long as the sequence settings match the acquisition settings. The problem I see often is that people confuse the video frame rate. 24p is not 24 true, it's 23.98. And when people say they shot 30 frames per second, usually (but not always) they mean 29.97. These are not subtle differences, they are monumental.
So don't go by what someone told you. Open the clips and audio in whatever program you need to get the exact file specs. I tend to use MPEG Streamclip; if you go to FILE/Show Stream Info you'll get accurate specs on the true rates of both audio and video files. Quicktime Window/Show Movie Inspector will give you most of what Streamclip gives you, but not all.

To start to help you we need more info.
Is your footage 1080/24p? or 1080/60i?
How are you planning to capture? Firewire? Capture card?
    What deck?
Computer specs? I ask because your profile says eMac, I don't think that you are going to edit 1080i HD footage on an eMac. At least, not very well.
    What version of FCP?
There is probably an easy setup for your situation but more info will help us hep you.

  • FINAL CUT PRO: Out of the box observations...

My copy just arrived today, and I thought it would be good to start a thread to share initial experience with the software.
I'll be back tomorrow with my first round...

    OK...
Well, Mac has continued its design descent to early 90s quasi sheik NYC beatnik by making the packaging pure black on black with little trims of gold here and there... a bit lazy i think and instills a certain foreboding instinct as i unwrap and remove the DVDs.
The cardboard box used to ship is a 3 ply variety, which is a bit surprising considering Jobs' environmental status. I would've thought a 2 ply would suffice.
Anyhoo, after an hour to install all 9 DVDs, the beauty is that everything starts up very quickly. I only did a quik survey this morning, but they've done a great job interrelating the different programs, and the roundtrip editing is much improved from the last version.
Color is fascinating, but the interface will take some time getting used to. I'm not sure if some of the File commands are intuitive, but I really just started with it. I took an HD clip of our playroom (which is very loud in various colors) and treated it to a blue bleached out preset effect... was instantaneous almost, and no degradation in clarity... very nice tool.
I'm using the program to master some short Flash Films and other video to HD for a film festival coming up in June. I'll post any further good/bad stuff as I move along...
    Anyone else?

  • Final Cut Capturing & multiple firewire feeds

    Hi,
Camera --> firewire to dv repeter (link here - this is supposed to multiply the feeds --> then one firewire from dv repeter is going to the live mixer and another firewire feed is going to a mac which live captures everything from the camera.
Problem: if 2 or more feeds are connected then fcp6 or 7 quits/crahses. Deck keeps recording. if only one feed is connected going to the mac with fcp, and no other firewire is connected to the dv repeter, fcp keeps capturing.
With imovie 8, I can record both on the deck and on with imovie. However imovie records only .dv from the feed and there is no way to make it record .mov files which will play fine in fcp. Plus in .dv file audio and video are not separate tracks.
Any walkaround this? Any other similar device like dv repeater?
    Thanks,
PS called datavideo guys, product is discontinued, and they have no idea.
//later PSS - does any of you know if imovie'11 records .mov files? and the size is 720x480?

    1. Are you using a Firewire switcher?  What do you mean by "multiply the feeds?"  The device you linked to is for using multiple devices - not to "multiply the feeds."
    2. Yes, it's true.  FCP can only capture from one Firewire stream at a time ... it's always been that way.
If you're using a Firewire switcher, it should have more than just one output.
FWIW, when I setup for multi-cam live-switched shoots, I connect each camera to the mixer directly via analog, then output from the mixer (analog) to a digital VTR to record a backup of the live-switch to tape.  Then I run a Firewire cable from the VTR to my Mac for live capturing in FCP.  The typical cable run from camera-to-switcher on my shoots is about 300'
There is (or use to be) some software available to do what you want, but I cannot recalled the name.  Perhaps someone will chime in that remembers better than I do.

  • Final Cut Editing Out the Black at the End

I am finishing up editing this one video and at the end there is a bunch of black. I want to edit this out so it doesn't keep playing black for like 10 seconds. How do I do this?
    Thanks

Take the track tool (T) click on each of the tracks at the end of your program and press delete to make sure.

  • IPhone 3Gs audio drift in Final cut Pro (but not qt player or imovie)

Is anyone else having audio drift issues with video from the 3gs when imported into FCP? We find that a 30 minute clip plays just fine in Quicktime player with perfectly synced audio, but when brought into final cut pro the clip has several seconds of drift over thirty minutes. This is before it's ever placed into a timeline, and the issue persists even if we transcode to prores 4:4:4 or any other codec. Issue duplicated in FCP 6 and 7.
Also, the movies are often brought in upside-down, even though they are displayed perfectly by quicktime player.
If, however, I bring the same clip into imovie and export it, the resulting clip has perfectly synced audio which works fine in FCP.
Essentially, apple's free tools seem to have no problem with iphone-captured video, but Final Cut, which is the pro tool, seems to have issues. Unless I'm missing some obvious (or abstruse) configuration step which is causing the problem.
Any insight greatly appreciated; everyone in our shop is stumped.

    Shane,
Thanks for your response, though I don't really see the need for the condescending tone while offering no useful information. I'm aware that H.264 is not an editing format -- If you had taken the time to read my post more carefully, you would note that I have already transcoded the footage ("and the issue persists even if we transcode to prores 4:4:4 or any other codec. Issue duplicated in FCP 6 and 7"), so your suggestion "Use Compressor to convert it to DV." really doesn't help much. We've done so and the problem persists. Hence the post.
Incidentally, I have transcoded with quicktime player, compressor, and FCP. All preserve the audio drift. Interestingly, Imovie deals with it well, kicking out a file with perfect sync. My instinct is that it's a metadata issue (i.e. FCP is misinterpreting the actual framerate of the video) but I'm looking for any similar experiences out there.
As for "professional" vs. non pro hardware and software, I certainly don't expect the iphone to shoot footage or offer features that are comparable to those of a pro camera. I do expect it to properly encode quicktime files for use with any bug-free quicktime-based tool, of which FCP is the flagship example. Should aperture not be required to handle photos from point and click digitals because they are not "professional?"
It's a somewhat ridiculous position to take that Apple's video tool would not support their only video-capable device. There are many consumer devices supported by FCP (you've heard of DV, yes?) and the 3Gs (and, I would assume, the coming video-capable ipod touch) are no exception.
In short, this is clearly a bug, and I'm trying to run it to the ground in order to use the 3Gs within a production environment for a project requiring many mobile devices uploading video from wifi connections around the world. If you have any useful information to offer, I'm all ears.

  • IM IN SERIOUS NEED OF YOUR HELP! HDV 1080i 50 capture into Final cut pro 7?

Hi everyone, Ive just recently got myself an IMAC with final cut studio. I also have a Sony HVR Z5. I have been shooting on the following settings:
    HDV 1080i 50 (scan type 50)
Ive connected the camera to my computer via firewire but have been having huge problems working out what settings to use? Ive tryed the easy set ups but still no joy? I keep getting the following message pop up:
'No date device. Capture was aborted due to lack of incoming data from device. Check your connections and that the disk is palying'
The disk is def playing on my camera (I can see it on the viewfinder) but not on the computer?
If anyone knows hot to solve this problem could they plare give me step by step instructions on how to set up final cuts capture settings?
    Thanks very much

There is only one correct capture preset. Don't go screwing around with trying different ones, you'll just mess up your preferences file and corrupt it.
    To start trash your preferences.
    http://www.fcpbook.com/Misc1.html
Set the HDV 1080i50 preset. Make sure the camera is set to output HDV and that iLink is switched off.
