Master Page Editing in Sharerpoint 2013

I want to add a Clickable image next to  .
This is what I have tried so far;
1. downloaded seattle.html and seattle.master.
2. Renamed to seattle custom.html and tried to edit it, but the suite bar branding Delegate is not present in the Html file
3. Tried to edit seattle custom.master but got an error, This page cannot be edited, deleted or moved!
Moreover I could not find
-<SharePoint:DelegateControl id=”ID_SuiteLinksDelegate” ControlId=”SuiteLinksDelegate” runat=”server” />
neither in .html nor in .master page file
What could have gone wrong?
I am using enterprise edition!
Best Regards, Pankaj Rana

Hi Rana,
According to your description, my understanding is that you want to customize the Suite Bar in SharePoint 2013.
Since the suite bar is designed as an out-of-the-box delegate control, you can create your own inheriting from it with Visual Studio, then deploy it to your SharePoint 2013.
There are some similar posts , they provide some examples for customizing the Suite Bar in SharePoint 2013, please take a look at:
http://blogs.msdn.com/b/findnavish/archive/2013/02/07/sharepoint-2013-customizing-suite-bar.aspx
http://www.sharemuch.com/2012/11/04/adding-your-own-links-to-sharepoint-2013-suite-bar/
http://zimmergren.net/technical/sp-2013-extending-the-suitebardelegatecontrol-by-adding-the-title-breadcrumb-control
I hope this helps.

  • Impossible to enable master page editing

    Hello everyone,
    I'm in trouble because I have to create a custom Sharepoint 2010 Foundation template and i can't modify the master page of the team site. Now you will tell me to go to Site Collection Administration, then to Sharepoint Designer Settings and enable Sharepoint
    Designer and Enable Customizing Master Pages and Page Layouts. Well...I have already done that. I have Full Control everywhere in the site collection and I am a domain admin, nevertheless if I turn on Sharepoint 2010 Designer it does not show Master Pages
    in the Site Objects panel, neither can I click on Customize Master Page - it says that master page editing has been disabled. Any suggestions, because I am out of such... Thanks

    Is there any other place where I can enable customizing the master pages, except for Site Collection Administration? Because this is the only place I know. And it does nothing. I have restarted the whole machine, not just IIS.
    Yes there is.  Look within Central Administration --> General Application Settings --> Configure SharePoint Designer Settings.  Here, on a (web) application level you can configure: -
    Whether SPD can be used
    Whether SC Admins can detach paghes (unghost) pages from the site template
    Whether SC Admins can customise page layouts and master pages
    Whether SC Admins can view the URL structure of thier site

  • Convert a sharepoint 2007 master page to a Sharepoint 2013 master page

    Dear friends,
                     I'm doing migration from SharePoint 2007 to SharePoint 2013. I was able to migrate the databases and deployed the customisations to new SP2013 environment. Can
    you please advice me which approch should I follow when migrating the master page? Does anyone have experience ?
    Thanks,
    Dilip

    Hi Dilip,
    There is no easy way to migrate SharePoint 2007 master page to SharePoint 2013.
    SharePoint 2013 use new CSS Style and theme. When you migrate to SharePoint 2013, the master page will be set to use the default master page in SharePoint 2013. To support the new UI in SharePoint 2013, changes have been made to the default master pages.
    For this reason, you cannot apply a master page created in SharePoint 2007 to a site in SharePoint 2013.

  • Create a custom Master Page in SharePoint Foundation 2013

    Hi,
    I am new to SharePoint foundation.
    I am trying to create a custom master page and save it as template, so that i can use it for all other sub sites. But i don't know where to start. Also i tries searching in Google, i got results for share point and not for share point foundation.
    So, Please give me a step by step procedure or a link to step by step procedure on how to create a master page, save it as template and use it for a sub site.
    Thanks in advance,
    Gowtham R

    Few points to note related to SharePoint Master page:
    You don't need to create master page template. If you deploy your master page in site collection level you can reuse the same master page in subsites without copying again and again, rather just by referencing
    You have not mentioned how you are going to deploy your master page. If you have any Visual Studio (VS) solution already, try to add your  master page in the VS solution and deploy your master page (and other branding components) as SharePoint WSP
    solution.
    Deploying master page will not activate the master page, you need to use some kind of 'Web Level Feature' to activate your branding - the feature will basically set the master page property of SharePoint site to your custom master page.
    Please follow the links below for steps by steps instructions (and you will find many just by googling 'sharepoint master page visual studio'):

  • Changing Master Page in Project server 2013

    hi,
    Can any one help me how to change the project server 2013 master page ?

    Hello,
    Yes i want to modify the master page for  Project Web Access . i want to change master page for
    all application page in pwa. i did this successfully  in Porject serevr 2010 by modifying V4.master page. i approached the same way
    in 2013 but could not succeed.
    is there any way to accomplish this?
    thanks.

  • Make master page editable in muse

    There is one page from a master that i want to edit ie change the depth and i can only do it on the master which change them all - hw can i do this on this one page
    thanks in advance

    Actually, to change the height of a given page there are two approaches that don't involve the master page.
    1. Simply add content. Pages in Muse, like pages on the web, grow in size vertically when content is added. If you draw a rectangle in the middle of the page then drag it down the footer will move down and the page will grow to accommodate that.
    2. Go to Page Properties and explicitly set a larger minimum page height. This sets the initial height of the page before any content is added. Setting this on an individual page overrides the value from the master page.

  • Can't change the master page after upgrading to SharePoint 2013.

    After upgrading our farm to SharePoint 2013 we are having trouble changing the master page for sites that don't have sub-sites. We are still using the v4 UI version, and that appears to be what is causing the problem. The error we get when going to /_layouts/ChangeSiteMasterPage.aspx
    is:
    System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.    at Microsoft.SharePoint.Publishing.Internal.CodeBehind.AreaChromeSettingsPage.OnLoad(EventArgs e)     at System.Web.UI.Control.LoadRecursive()
    at System.Web.UI.Page.ProcessRequestMain(Boolean includeStagesBeforeAsyncPoint, Boolean includeStagesAfterAsyncPoint)
    I took a peek at the source code for AreaChromeSettingsPage.OnLoad and found that it references a CheckBox control that does not exist in the v4 ChangeSiteMasterPage.aspx:
    protected override void OnLoad(EventArgs e)
    base.OnLoad(e);
    this.EnsureChildControls();
    if (!this.Page.IsPostBack)
    this.LoadValues();
    if (base.Web.Webs.Count == 0)
    this.resetSystemMasterPageSubSitesCheckBox.Visible = false;
    this.resetSubSitesCheckBox.Visible = false;
    this.resetAlternateCssSubSitesCheckBox.Visible = false;
    this.resetThemeSubSitesCheckBox.Visible = false;
    base.ConfigureCancelButton(this.BtnCancel);
    If I manually add a checkbox control with the ID "resetThemeSubSitesCheckBox" to a hidden panel in the v4 copy of ChangeSiteMasterPage.aspx the page works, but obviously this is not a best practice. How can we fix this without upgrading the UI version, which
    we are not yet ready to do?

    Thanks Mike - Could you please share what is your next step then? I also have custom master pages and layout but I am going to make new master page and layout in 2013 as we need to change the existing branding too. so, i upgrade the site collection. I understand
    the Look and Feel will not persist after the upgrade but I am concern that at least the page should show the content on the page after the upgrade. The page had Calendar webppart on it but after the upgrade it is coming blank.
    any suggestion?

  • Migrate SP 2007 Master page to 2013

    Hello All,
    I have a requirement to migrate a sharpoint 2007 master page to sharepoint 2013 master page.
    My infrastructure team has set the DB on 2013. Please let me know is it possible to upgrade a

    there is no easy path to mirgate the master page from 2007 to 2013. Check this post "http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/sharepoint/en-US/b4947250-a447-430c-b374-a9777c4d4cbb/migration-of-master-pages-from-sp2010-to-2013?forum=sharepointdevelopment"
    Because you have only one or couple of master page, i would try to use the 3rd party tools to save time i.e Metalogix or ShareGate or Axceler or Dell Software.
    Metalogix and ShareGate have the trial version you can try that.

  • Changing Default & System Master Pages In SharePoint 2013

    I want to change the system master page & default master page of a SharePoint 2013 site collection. In Site Settings in the Look & Feel section Master Page is not at there. But there is Design Manager. In the design manager where can I change the
    above mentioned Master Pages.

    Hello,
    If publishing is activated you can use the page /_layouts/15/ChangeSiteMasterPage.aspx
    You can also use the Design Manager. Choose a theme and then you'll be asked for fonts, colors and...master page.
    Hope this helps.

  • User detail in custom master page

    Hi All,
    I want to make appear logged in user detail in master page.
    In SharePoint 2013, User can see "about me" detail in System account appearing at top right corner.
    I want same user detail to appear in custom master page. I am not sure where we can look for it.
    I guess we need to copy user detail tag from oslo master page and can paste in our custom master page.
    But i am not sure where to find this.
    Any help is much appreciated.
    Thanks..
    Rakesh

    Hi,
    According to your post, my understanding is that you wanted to display user information in the master page.
    We can register SPSWC at the top of the master page to call the user profiles.
    Register SPSWC at the top of the master page:
    <%@ Register Tagprefix="SPSWC" Namespace="Microsoft.SharePoint.Portal.WebControls" Assembly="Microsoft.SharePoint.Portal, Version=14.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=71e9bce111e9429c" %>
    Register the propertys below the starting Form tag:
    <SPSWC:ProfilePropertyLoader runat="server"/>
    There are some good articles for your reference.

  • Custom master page issue in subsites

    Greetings!
    I've run into an oddity with a custom master page on my SharePoint 2013 Enterprise server. I copied the html for the seattle master page, renamed it so it wouldn't change the seattle master, made an addition to it to add a reference to a custom css
    file, then threw it back up on the site so SP would make a new .master file with it. I created a new web app and site collection, put the custom css file in the Style Library and added the custom master page to the Master Pages.
    So, all that being done, I changed the look of the top level site to use the new master page and it looks great and seems to be working as expected. We've got a number of subsites planned for underneath this top level site, I'm thinking no problem, just
    put the custom master file in the master pages and we'll be good. So I create a subsite, put the custom master page in the subsite's Master Pages, change the look. The master page and custom css apply and it looks good, but, then the problem starts.
    When I go into a document library and change a view or add a view or delete a view I get back an odd response page from SP. In the url I see this: https://topsite/subsite/_vti_bin/owssvr.dll?CS=65001
    and in the body of the message: 69|pageRedirect|owssvr|https://topsite/subsite/Shared%20Documents/Forms/AllItems.aspx|
    When I go back into the subsite, whatever change I was attempting when I get these results worked fine.
    So, why does my custom master page work fine on the top level, but not on the subsites? If I switch the subsite back to the Seattle.master, the oddity goes away, so that tells me it's something to do with my custom master page and/or custom css. I did
    some searching for owssvr.dll?CS=65001 and didn't see anything that helped. I checked IIS and the web.config file and don't have ASP.net tracing on that I could find.
    All that the custom css is doing is increasing the size allowable for the site icon (.ms-siteicon-img) to allow for a larger icon (180px square) and it pushes the side Nav Box down a bit to make room for the larger icon and changes the font size for the
    side Nave Box (#sideNavBox). Since it works on the top site, I'm not suspecting the css, but, it's not making sense to me why the custom master page wouldn't work in subsites either.
    I ran into this issue earlier, it was showing up when deleting folders from the document library. I thought I'd made a boo-boo somewhere in creating the custom master page, or how I'd added it, or something (kind of a learn as I go situation here), so I
    deleted the entire web app and recreated it, hoping for a clean start and a good master page and everything would be good. Guess I'm still missing something.
    I swear that the ONLY change I made to the seattle html file for my custom page was to add this line just below the corev15.css line: <!-- SPM:<SharePoint:CssRegistration Name="/Style Library/skcustom.css" after="corev15.css" runat="server"/>-->
    So, that's my sad story. Any suggestions, other than to punt on the custom master page?
    Thanks!
    Steven

    Thanks. I've been experimenting with this for a few days now, and there's lots I don't understand about why and such, but your process above works. That's a big load off me right now and I really appreciate it. I'm going to be able to survive the initial
    roll-out and implementation of the new site. Going forward, I've got lots to learn and find out, I've already heard that there's a desire to really redesign the master page for the site and subsites, way beyond the little CSS customization I did. Fun.
    If you've got a little time though, perhaps you can provide some explanation. If not, no problem.
    On step 6, when I do as you detail, click the System Master Page and reset all the subsites, it seems to work fine with my custom master page. If I do that with the Site Master Page settings, my custom page causes the redirect issue in the subsites again.
    This is whether I do the Site Master Page by itself, or in conjunction with the System Master Page settings. If I revert back to the Seattle master page in the Site Master Page settings and my custom pate in the System Master Page, the issue goes away again.
    It is completely messing with my head, trying to figure out why that would be, and this is all beside trying to figure out why adding the one little CSS reference to the Seattle master to create my master page breaks things (sometimes!).
    Just fyi, what I've ended up with for now is pulling my custom master page out of the system and using the Alternate CSS URL to add my custom CSS to the Seattle master page on the sites. As I thought about all this, I decided I didn't want to leave the breakable
    custom page out there for some unsuspecting site manager to accidentally pick and get everyone screaming about the broken sites.
    Thanks again,
    Steven

  • V4.master page showing error.

    Hi All,
    In SharePoint 2013 I opent the site in Designer 2013 --> In Master Page --> Copy V4.master page and paste it --> Try to do some changes --after that I deleted the new master page v4.master which I've created --> Saved the Old Master Page -->
    Right Click on v4.master --> Clicked on Set as Default master Page & Set as Custom Master Page both.
    But now when I'm opening the site its not opening and showing error "Sorry, something went wrong"

    Hi,
    According to your post, my understanding is that you have an issue about the master page.
    For SharePoint 2013, by default it is used the seattle.master as the default master page.
    You can change back to the seattle.master page as the master page, then check whether it works.
    What’s more, you can also use the Version History to restore the v4.master to check whether it works.

  • Master Page updated , but changes are visible only for that Page(site) alone ?

    I updated v4.master in SharePoint designer to add a bread crum navigation control
     <div class="BreadCrumbWrap s4-notdlg">
           <asp:SiteMapPath runat="server" SiteMapProvider="SPContentMapProvider" id="ContentMap"   CssClass="BreadCrumbStyle" PathSeparator="&gt;">
           <CurrentNodeStyle CssClass="BreadCurrentNode" />
           <PathSeparatorStyle CssClass="BreadPathSeparator" />
            </asp:SiteMapPath>
          </div>
    But the changes are visible only in that site. all other sites dont have bread crum control,
    I added the bread crum in header section, and also in page layout section, but there is no change (bread crum navigation only visible in that site alone)
    Why ?
    I always thought master page edits will be visible in all sites of a site collection,
    Am i going wrong some where (My site collection has about 30-35 sites, and new sites are created every now and then )
    Please help
    rn

    If the publishing features are turned on then the master pages for all the sites in the site collection are pulled from the master page gallery of the root site.  But if Publishing hasn't been enabled then each site uses the v4.master in its own master
    page gallery.  It sounds like you haven't enabled the Publishing Infrastructure site collection feature and Publishing Site Feature in the root site of your site collection.

    Hi,
    According to your description, my understanding is that you want to know about the each tags useful in master page.
    In SharePoint 2013 master page, there are some common tags like body tag, head tag and meta tag and some style CSS div tags. For the useful of these tags, I suggest you can refer the articles below:
    Understanding HTML master pages in SharePoint 2013
    In your custom master page, it will have some custom css tags depend on the display style but it is no required for master pages, if you want to know about what tags is required in master page, you can compare the custom master page with the  OOTB master
    page.
