Master page markers are broken.

ID6.0.4 / MacPro OS10.5.8 Intel
Type > Insert Special Characters > Markers > Next Page Number does not function correctly. It inserts the current page number, not the next page number. Sure would be nice if it were fixed.
Filed with the general Adobe bug report form, but thought I'd post it here in case any of the ID team is watching.

The next/previous markers require that the frame containing them touch a threaded frame to calculate where the next page in the thread is located. As a master item they really aren't on the page with with the thread so won't interact with the other frames. If you feel strongly that this should change, you can file a bug at Adobe - Feature Request/Bug Report Form, but personally I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for it to change.
In the meantime, think about this workaround. Select all master items you DON"T want to override, then from the panel menu uncheck "Allow Master Overrides On Selection." Now you can select all pages and override all master items at once, and only the items you didn't select will actually be overridden. Want to move something? Go back to the master and remove the local override, then repeat after your edit.

    I am having major issues with links in keynote! Even though the links (a navigation system) are on the master page, they are only working on some of my slides. Anyone have ideas on how to fix this or similar issues? Help!
    I have created a navigation system on the master pages and set the presentation to links only mode. I also have other links scattered throughout the program, like a linkable table of contents, etc. Some of them work, some of them don't. Not sure why. Anyone out there having similar issues? Or have any idea on how I can solve this issue? Any help would be appreciated!
    Thanks!

    Links should not create any problems in Keynote.  If they are set up correctly on text, the text will be underlined. Objects that have links will have a curved arrow bottom right, if you click the arrow a popup will display the link information.
    Try this repair for Keynote,  ensure you complete all the tasks and in the order shown:

    delete all the iWork applications if you have them, not just Keynote, using Appcleaner from Mac Update, its a freeware application

    empty the trash:  Finder > Empty Trash

    Shut down your Mac, wait 30 seconds, then power on the Mac, immediately after the start chime, hold down the Shift key
    When you see the grey Apple symbol and progress indicator (a spinning gear), release the Shift key.
    If you are prompted to log in, type your password, then hold down the Shift key again as you click Log in.

    Let the Mac fully boot up, it will take longer as the OS is repairing the drive

    when fully booted, go to Applications > Utilities > Disc Utility; click on the boot drive then First Aid tab and click  repair disc permissions

    when complete, restart the Mac normally, Apple menu > Restart

    install Keynote from the Mac App Store

  • Master page content area height

    Hello
    I have a subform within a master page content area,
    The subform has table which i allowed the content to break to the next page.
    When i try to get the height of the subform it only gives me the height from the first page and ignores the rest on other pages the table broke to.
    I need the height of the subsequent pages in order to position another subform at the bottom of the last page.
    Your assistance will be greatly appreciated.

  • Master page fields are reset on removal of  subform in the document

    Hi,
    I've got another problem here: In a form I've got a repeatable subform, each intance containing a "remove current instance"-Button and a "add instance"-Button below all the subform instances. This works fine, but every time I delete a subform instance, all the fiels from my master page are reset. That sucks. Any reason why this happens, any workarounds (except putting that stuff into the normal page)?
    Other problem: How do i do a calculation for every subform instance *after* one of the subform instances is removed? Adding a script call to the Action removing the subform instance *after* the removal action doesn't work, it is never executed.
    Regards,
    Jost

    A workaround to the first problem: Make the data binding of the fields in the master page global.

    dear KN
      see u have not uploaded master since long, or if u have loaded the master then it was a full  upload.
      let me know the characteristic for which u have not getting the text.
      i suppose for ur problem here is a brief solution.
      u pl go to the infosource and look for the corresponding infobject, here u should have the provision to  upload attributes, hierarchy and text.
    1. now go the transfer structure of the infobject and first select attribute datasource and activate the infosource.
    2. load the data by initial upload and in infopackage-processing-only psa-tick on update sequentially in data targets-tick on ingore duplicate records.
    3. init upload
    4. start upload.
    now create a separate infopackage for text  and use text datasource in the transfer structure and repeate the steps 1 to 4.
    u can repeate same procedure for the hierachy.
    once successful upload takes place pl run the query and u will see the text is now available, if still problem persists, just let me know

  • Everytime I copy pages from one ID CS3 doc to another, it re-applies the master page objects!!

    Please Help,
    This is a topic I would really like to get to the bottom of.
    We have InDesign CS3 templates for creating our reports.
    These templates contain around 10 different master pages with grey placeholder image boxes and text boxes with dummy text.
    When we copy pages from one ID document to another, all the master page objects that were originally assigned to the pages are re-applied!!
    Resulting in lots of grey dummy boxes and text boxes re-appearing on top of the page items!!
    It's so annoying because we always customise the pages once we've pulled down master pages to work on, so when we copy pages across to other documents we have to apply the blank master to be able to kick out all the master objects easily.  Then we need to add the page numbers and footers back onto the blank master page.
    My question is, is there a way to switch this off, so when I move or copy pages from one document to another, nothing happens relating to master page objects, the pages simply just copy across as they are?
    Please help!  If not I may have to ask an external developer to write a script to fix this, it drives 900 of us crazy!
    thanks in advance for any help.
    Or am I just being ridiculous and not actually realising you can switch this off, doh!
    G

    Just a bit of further clarification on this issue (very few people really understand what's going on with master pages and overridden master page items):
    When you override a master page item, the object is moved to a local page, but a connection is maintained with the original master page item. This a) allows for the override to be removed (and return the object to its original state). This also, b) allows for changes made to the original master page item (other than the changes made to the local item from the point that it was overridden) to effect the local item as well.
    When the connection to the master page item cannot be maintained, the local item gets disconnected totally from the master page, and becomes a regular, run-of-the-mill page item.
    In light of this, there's three ways you can end up with duplicate master items:
    Reapplying a master page (or applying a new one). When you reapply a master, all overridden master page items get detached from the master, and the original mster page item appears again in its original state. Most of the time this produces unwanted duplication of objects. To fix up your page, you have two options: a) Delete the master page item, and b) copying the contents of the original to the new master page item. The disadvantage of "a" is that you end up with an item which is totally detached from the master, and changing the item on the master will have no effect on the local item. The disadavantage of "b" is that it's a lot of work...
    Moving a page to a different document. When you move a page to a different document which has the same master as the one originally applied, the master in the new doc is applied, and the effects are identical to reapplying a master page (i.e. overridden objects are detached). If the applied master (i.e. a master with the same name) does not exist in the new doc, the master is transferred over to the new doc along with the page, and the connections to the master page are preserved (well, re-created actually...). The workarounds in case #1 apply here as well.
    When page sides change in a document, the objects on the facing page appears.
    What happens here is a bit confusing, but here's an approximate explanation:
    When you apply a master to a page or spread in InDesign, what you are actually doing is applying an entire spread to an individual page. You can thing of a master spread as an overlay (or more precisely: underlay) on the page with a window cut out to the exact page dimensions.
    When the page side changes that "window cut-out" shifts to show the master spread items which correspond to the position within the spread of your current page (i.e. recto or verso). All objects which exist outside the window shift out of view (but still exist!).
    When an object is overridden, the position of the object is defined by its location on the local page, NOT its position on the master spread. When the page then changes sides, the object remains where it was on the page (even though the object it's connected to on the master spread moves out of the window of view). A corresponding object on the facing page of the master (if it exists) will then show in addition to the overridden one.
    Now remember: contrary to the first two cases, both objects are based on master ones: one visible one and one invisible one.
    Dealing with this third case requires much more care than the first two.
    The obvious way to deal with this would be similar to the first two, but if you remove the local object and transfer the content to the new maste object, the invisible master object on the non-visible page was actually removed, so when the page sides change again, the object will now be connected to the now-invisible master page item, and the correct master page item will be gone!
    The "correct" way to deal with this would be to transfer the content to the new master page item and remove overrides (not delete!) on the local item (which will make it disappear, because it moves back to the invisible page). Of course, when page sides change again, it becomes necessary to repeat the entire process.
    If the local object gets deleted, then your master spread is missing objects with no visible indicator of the fact. This can lead to confusion when the document might be edited at some later point in time.
    I believe that this complicated and un-intuitive behavior of master pages is part of the reason people tend to avoid using master page items. Documents tend to get messed up in really odd ways... It's a real shame, because extensive use of master page items has a lot of potential for streamlining workflows and saving an awful lot of time. This behavior really puts a damper on really using master pages as templates.
    Getting master page items to work the way they "should" was a big part of what I was trying to accomplish with AutoFlow Pro... When the master page items are defined as such (i.e. given a unique name), AutoFlow Pro solves all three of the above issues by keeping overridden master page items connected to the master page items on the currently applied master (and when a new master is applied as well!).
    (When I have a bit of spare time, I think I'll write this up on my blog with some visuals to make this easier to grasp...)

  • Basic working/Master Page questions

    Beginner - creating 80 pg catalog in ID -
    I'm a little confused with using  ID master pages and don't have time to go through a lot of tutorials at the moment. I created a new doc with 4 master pages (all spreads) to use at will throughout, intending to swap out text and images in page layout mode once the master pages are dragged down into the page layouts section of the palette.
    After dragging pages from the Master Pages section down into pages palette, creating new spreads, the page layouts can't use any of the elements until I select them and then choose Override Master Page Items? So none of the text formatting/picture boxes/elements are ready to use by default? I don't get it … master pages are by default meant to be background elements only?
    Switching from Quark, where all Master Page elements are ready to swap in text and images after dragging them into the page layout panel. How to best accomplish having the Master page elements immediately available for use in page layouts? Template?
    LMK if I need to provide more info...
    ID 6/CS4  Macos10.6.8

    Master objects in ID are not like they are in Quark. If they have content in them you must override them before you can alter them. Empty master frames can receive content via File > Place... without overriding. You can override any master object by holding Cmd + Shift and left click on it.
    The general principle for using master objects in ID is if they need to be overridden to use them, you really need a darn good reason to put them on the master page at all since you defeat the purpose of having them on the master when you do that.

    You'd be much better served if you did spend some time training. You'll never get good at ID as long as you continue to think like a Quark user.

  • Can't apply some master pages to topics

    Hello,
    I have already logged a bug report on this, but I am hoping that someone else has encountered it and has a suggested workaround. I have searched the forums, but I didn't see this issue. We recently upgraded to RoboHelp 8, and we have installed 8.0.1.
    Our help projects typically include multiple master pages (formerly called "templates"). Most topics use the main master page, but a few need to use one of our other master pages that is geared toward a different type of user. Most of our projects have at least 3 master pages.
    After conversion from X5 to RoboHelp 8, in some of our help projects, we cannot apply the lesser-used master pages to topics. We can right-click the topic name or within the Design window and open the Topic Properties, and we can select the correct master page, either from the drop-down list or by clicking the Browse button, and we can click Apply. Initially, the topic will show the master page as being selected; however, the header from that master page will not appear grayed out in the Design window for the topic as it should, and when you save and close the topic, the master page is no longer selected for it. This problem does not occur if I select the master page that is used for most topics; that one gets selected and applied correctly.
    This problem has happened to me and to 2 of my coworkers. I got my problem topics and templates to work, but I tried many things repeatedly and cannot pinpoint what made the problem stop happening. I am currently trying to solve the problem in a coworker's project without success.
    Things I have tried:
    1. Deleting and reimporting the master pages that are not working. (When I do this, RoboHelp crashes.)
    2. Comparing the code of the non-working master pages to the code of the master page that does work. I saw no problems.
    3. Deleting the cpd file while the project was closed and then reopening.
    4. Manually changing the tags that appear in the code of the topics to see if I can fool RoboHelp into recognizing the master page. I tried putting in the meta tag and header placeholder tags, but this did not work.
    Has anyone run into this, and if so, have you found a workaround?
    Thank you,
    Tammy

    This was our error, not RoboHelp's. After trying several different things yesterday, I compared the code of a working master page to that of a non-working master page once again. I discovered an error in some JavaScript, and when I removed the extraneous code, the template worked. I apologize for not finding this before posting! I did try several things before I posted.

  • How to I export a master page?

    I see the option to import a master page, but no option to export one. How does one export master pages from a project?

    Hi there
    To my knowledge there is no method offered to export a Master Page. At least, not from the UI.
    When you create a Master Page, you are creating a file bearing the extension of .HTT. When you are viewing the Master Pages pod, try right-clicking one of the .HTT files you see. You should see an option on the context menu labeled "Explore". Click that option and Windows Explorer should open at the file location where your Master Page files are. Note that you will see other project files there as well. Master Pages are co-mingled with other files in the project.
    Locate the .HTT file of choice and copy it where you wish.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Multi-page document with multi Master-pages

    Using InDesign CS6 (Mac):
    I'm to start a 50-page document that's single-pages (not spreads) for 3-hole-punch book. I'm using 2 Master pages, which are alternating between the front and back of each sheet. So page 1 is master A, page 2 is B, 3-A, 4-B, etc.
    So that I don't have to manually add alternate pages to the Pages window — is there an elegant way I could tell InDesign at the "New Document" level to create those 50 alternating pages?
    Thanks!

    Thanks, Jdanek, but after posting my question here I realized a better place to post it is in the InDesign forum, and I already got the answer there, which is to create a facing-page document with one master page, that has a larger margin at the binding side. The pages will be read as spreads, even if this a 3-hole-punch book. I then will save it as a single-page PDF for production.

  • Sidehead: want on L/R master pages but not other master pages

    Hello!
    I've been fighting this all evening and can't seem to get it to work. I would like to have room for a sidehead on my L/R pages in my facing page document but I would like my master page "First Page of Chapter" to not have a sidehead: I would like the text on that one page to span the entire width of the text frame.
    When I try to set this up, however, the first page of chapter has the sidehead, even though it its text frame doesn't appear to have a sidehead when I view its master page.
    What's odd is that the master page sidehead area isn't even the same size as the sidehead that's appearing on the L/R pages, it's much wider.
    Can someone tell me the process for not allowing room for a sidehead on the first page of the chapter (with the "First Page of Chapter" master page) but having sideheads on the subsequent pages that belong to the L/R master pages?
    Many thanks!

    Rocky,
    To add a maybe unnecessary level of detail, the side-head area is a flow level property. Separate text flows within a document may have separate settings, but normally you would not want to have separate text flows.
    Apart from using special paragraph formats, as Arnis mentioned, you could also make the text frame on your title master page wider and move it to the left side possible a little bit off the page, so the main column is positioned as you wnat/like/need it.

  • Hiding a master page based on condition

    Hi All,
    I have created a form which has data on odd pages and some terms and condition on the back pages(even) pages. I am using Adobe Livecycle Designer ES version 8.1.2
    For this I created 4 Master pages.
    FirstPage - Pagination -> Odd/Even - > Odd (front) pages
                                       Placement -> First Page (in Page set)
    Front Page - Pagination -> Odd/Even - > Odd (front) pages
                                       Placement -> Rest of pages
    BackPage - Pagination -> Odd/Even - > Even (Back) pages
                                       Placement -> Rest of pages
    Dummy - Pagination -> Odd/Even - > Blank page
    I dragged the content area of back page on the dummy page.
    This set up works fine for printing.
    I have additional requirement of archiving, emailing and faxing. While sending a email or fax or archiving, the data should be continuous, the 'BackPage' master page should be removed otherwise they show in alternate pages as blank pages even if i set the presence property to 'visible(print only)' .
    Are there any settings which can be done to remove the master pages that are not needed based on a codition. Or can we achieve it through scripting.
    Regards
    Neha

    Hi Otto,
    I will try explaining the scenario...
    The form has to support back side printing and will be archived, sent by mail and by fax.
    The main content of the form will be on the front pages only and on the back side of the first page, the terms and conditions are printed.
    the rest of the back pages remain blank.
    Following the solution in the link below:
    ADOBE: How to print a table only on uneven pages and a text on the back?
    MasterPage -> Object pallete -> Page set -> Printing -> Print on both sides.(choosing this does not allow to set the occurance)
    I created 4 master pages.
    FirstPage -      Pagination -> Odd/Even - > Odd (front) pages
              Placement -> First Page (in Page set)
              Content area -> C1
    Front Page -      Pagination -> Odd/Even - > Odd (front) pages
              Placement -> Rest of pages
              Content area -> C2
    BackPage -      Pagination -> Odd/Even - > Even (Back) pages
              Placement -> Rest of pages
    Dummy -      Pagination -> Odd/Even - > Blank page
              Content area -> C3 (Dragged the content area of BackPage to the dummy page)
    I only have one Body page for now for the content and have put the terms and condition on the 'BackPage' master page itself as a text.
    (If I create a Body Page for the terms and condition (so that I can set its visiblity property) and I try to assign the content area of 'BackPage' (now on dummyPage) the designer shuts down with an error.)
    This works fine for the print set up.
    Now when I save the form, after each front page a blank page is inserted.
    I would like to remove this blank page.
    Is there any other way to have content on front pages only and print certain text only at the back.
    Please help.
    Regards
    Neha

  • Master Page Template problems

    1.)    I have a problem with the Master Page Template when I place a Back to Top link at the bottom of the page of the Master and then generate or publish my product the link only works at the higher level. If pages in the product are under a folder or if the pages are in a different book the link does not work. I’m using the # for the Back to Top link.
    2.)    Another problem with the Master if you place a See Also Button on the master page you are limited on your project pages as to what you placed in the links on the Master Page. In other words if I have a project that has 30 pages and 10 chapters and I want the link to jump to chapter 3 page 5 and I only palced the 10 chapter links in the Master See Also Button I can not change the link under the See Also Button on chapter 3 page 5 with out it breaking the link to the Master Page. Is what has to be done Is place a See Also Button on each and evey page and edit the links in each and every one.
    3.)    Breadcrumb trail links. Why in the Design view you can not change the Breadcrumb trail links to above a graphics header if you have placed on your Master Page? If others are having problems with this just go into the HTML and place the breadcrumb section in your header section. You may have to play around with the formating of your styles to get it just right.

    codeOutsideHTMLIsLocked="false" -->
    That says that anything outside of that area can't be modified, right?
    Nope. It says anything outside that area is editable, i.e., it's treated as an editable region.  This is the default behavior for a DW template and it allows you to place server scripting or javascript code above the <html> tag, or below the </html> tag in any child page.
    Unless you are using server scripting, or are very advanced in your use of DW, you should never mess with this default setting.

  • Master page runs when I added small thumbnails in the page?

    Hi,

    It happens when I add all my current thumbnails, the Top Logo runs a slightly off to the left, where as the Bottom Logo is fine.
    How do I solve this issue?

  • CS6 master page problems with CS5.5 script

    Hi.
    I've an extensive script created for CS5.5, that creates 16 documents, styles them, and adds them to a book file.
    Under CS6, it still works fine, creates all the necessary stylesheets and master pages, but the master page items are shifted.
    I've checked the position with the Page tool, and clicked Show Master Page Overlay, and the centre of the master pages are now sitting at the centre of the spread (which is also the zero point of the ruler).
    I've tried versioning for CS5.5, but I can't get it to stick (compiling simply changes CS6 to CS5").
    Can anyone tell me how to correct the problem? Ideally, I'd like to append the part of my script that creates the master page. This starts thus:
    set currentMaster to master spread "A-Master" of Pub00
              set base name of currentMaster to "Standard Pages"
              tell currentMaster
      make guide with properties {orientation:vertical, location:"138mm"}
      make guide with properties {orientation:vertical, location:"140mm"}
                        tell margin preferences of pages
                                  set top to topMargin
                                  set left to insideMargin
                                  set bottom to bottomMargin
                                  set right to outsideMargin
                                  set column count to docColumns
                                  set column gutter to colGutter
                        end tell
    ... and then I start creating para and character styles, and add various frames with content to the masters.
    Another section to create a master starts with ...
    tell currentMaster
                                  tell page 1
    ... so should I use the 'tell page 1' block to alter the master overlay, or somewhere else?
    Each document only has three different master pages, but I now have to open all 16, and use the Page tool to shift the master overaly, which can be pretty time consuming.
    Any pointers would be most appreciated.

    I'm seeing this as well, but when I go to override master page items to a normal page.  This code worked fine on CS5, but broke when we updated to CS6.
    on override_master_page_items(p)
      -- Overrides all possible master page items for a given page.
      tell application "Adobe InDesign CS6"
        try
          -- Get the list of items to override
          set i to master page items of p
          set b to {}
          repeat with v in i
            -- Build the list of items that we will override so we can process it all at   once (for speed)
            try
              if allow overrides of v is true then
                -- Only override an item if it is in fact possible to do so.
                set b to {b, v}
              end if
            end try
          end repeat
          -- Override all the items that we found above.
          set overriddenItems to override b destination page p
        end try
      end tell
    end override_master_page_items
    Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.
