Master page yes or no?

here's a dumb ?
do i need a master page ?
if not how do i get rid of it ?
do i get rid of the master page if each page is to have a different design ?

I think you need a master page. And FWIW, all the sites I can think of have at least a little bit of header and/or footer text that is common to all pages.
That said, I am moving this post to the main Muse forum so that other customers can provide their feedback.

  • How do I populate my date fields placed on Master Page for multiple pages?

    I have a dynamic form with flowing fields. I inserted date fields using the Master Pages tab within Adobe LiveCycle Designer ES2, Windows 7 OS. I have only 1 Master Page. Everything on the form is working properly, except when I have multiple pages, the date fields are blank on all but the first page. One of the date fields has javascript in the exit event to calculate the second date field. I can manually edit the subsequent page(s) date fields, but I don't want the end user to have to do that. I want the date fields on the new pages to equal the date fields on the first pages. Below is my output with notes to provide a visualization of what I'm looking for.
    Many thanks in advance for anyone who can help me with this issue!
    Caroline

    Hey Mandy,
    Yes, both date fields are on the Master Page. The first one is set to "User entered - Required" and the second to "Calculated - User Can Override"
    And that's right, I used your script to calculate the second date field. The only thing I changed was the field name, and used 6 days instead since I wanted the calendar days to only run a full week, like start on a Monday and end on Sunday.
    Thx,

  • Master Pages don't transfer when I change page size in a book

    I had exactly the same problem in CS4, which is why I switched to CS5.5 -- but apparently nothing has changed.
    I have a book of about 30 chapters.  It was originally set up in 6x9 format, but after it was all formatted, my client decided he wanted the pages 5x8.
    It should be easy, right?  Just change the layout for the master pages of the Style Source document, fix the text sizing, etc.  Then in each ensuing chapter, just download the new masters from the style source document.  When I get a warning asking me if the master pages in the target document should be overwritten, I say yes and it does its thing.
    Only it doesn't work.  Oh, the text in the masters is all over the place, which is to be expected -- but the master pages and the book pages are still 6x9, not 5x8.
    I tried synchronizing the book, being careful that Master Pages is checked in the options.  I got a warning that some of the text would need to be fixed.  No problem.  Except that the pages in all the documents except the Style Source are still 6x9!!
    I have a feeling I've wasted my money on the upgrade.  A lot of bells and whistles have been added, but the CS4 problems aren't solved.
    Please, can somebody help?  I do this for a living, and I'm wasting waaaaaay too much time trying to clean up messes like these.

    No, Peter, I never solved it.  But thank you for asking!
    I finally started a whole new book, with the smaller master pages.  I saved a few blank pages for each chapter file, then I copied and pasted the text of each chapter onto the new pages.  Fortunately I was able to transfer paragraph and character styles to the new document, and the formatting of the copied text transferred also.
    But it was still a lot of work.
    I don't even want to think about trying to design a document with different size pages!

  • Setting the custom master page through powershell is NOT working

    Hi,
     I am writing the below code to set the  custom master page through powershell.
    But its not working .when i went to site settings-->master page --> in the drodown , the  maste page set is seattle.master ONLY, though my current master page is available in the dropdown.
     Can anyone pls help, whether i am missing in the below :
          Add-PSSnapin Microsoft.SharePoint.Powershell
           $SiteURL = "http://srvr1:22307/sites/SPW5"
        $weburl= $SiteURL
        $Site= Get-SPSite $SiteURL
        $web =  $Site.OpenWeb()
    $web.CustomMasterUrl = "/_catalogs/masterpage/myMasterpage.master"
    $web.MasterUrl = "/_catalogs/masterpage/myMasterpage.master"
    $web.Update()
    Das

    Hi,
    Is it a publishing page? If yes can you try the PowerShell scripts corresponding to the following code snippet?
    var publishingWeb = PublishingWeb.GetPublishingWeb(web);
    publishingWeb.CustomMasterUrl.SetInherit(inheritFromParent, false);
    publishingWeb.CustomMasterUrl.SetValue(masterPageUrl, false);
    publishingWeb.MasterUrl.SetInherit(inheritFromParent, false);
    publishingWeb.MasterUrl.SetValue(masterPageUrl, false);
    I've noticed sometime (not sure though) that Master page doesn't get updated if the inherit property is not updated first.

  • CS4 master pages don't transfer

    I created a book using a 6x9 format, but after I got the entire 39 chapters formatted, I realized I needed to switch to 5x8 format.  It should be easy -- just move the new masters I created in Chapter 1 to the other chapters.  Only it doesn't work.
    I did what the instructions said:  opened both chapters 1 and 2 and in the Page flyout menu, selected "move pages".  I selected Chapter 2 as my destination.  But nothing happened.  The masters in Chapter 2 are still 6x9.
    I tried synchronizing the entire book using Chapter 1 as the Style Source, but that doesn't work, either.  None of the masters changed.  Yes, I selected Master Pages in the Synchronization menu.
    I also tried to import master pages using the Pages flyout menu.  That didn't work, either.
    I even tried deleting the 6x9 master pages.  Well, that was a disaster!  InDesign crashed.
    Having to reformat all the masters for all 39 chapters is ridiculous, but I can't see any other way to do it.
    HELP!!

    No, Peter, I never solved it.  But thank you for asking!

  • Impossible to enable master page editing

    Hello everyone,
    I'm in trouble because I have to create a custom Sharepoint 2010 Foundation template and i can't modify the master page of the team site. Now you will tell me to go to Site Collection Administration, then to Sharepoint Designer Settings and enable Sharepoint
    Designer and Enable Customizing Master Pages and Page Layouts. Well...I have already done that. I have Full Control everywhere in the site collection and I am a domain admin, nevertheless if I turn on Sharepoint 2010 Designer it does not show Master Pages
    in the Site Objects panel, neither can I click on Customize Master Page - it says that master page editing has been disabled. Any suggestions, because I am out of such... Thanks

    Is there any other place where I can enable customizing the master pages, except for Site Collection Administration? Because this is the only place I know. And it does nothing. I have restarted the whole machine, not just IIS.
    Yes there is.  Look within Central Administration --> General Application Settings --> Configure SharePoint Designer Settings.  Here, on a (web) application level you can configure: -
    Whether SPD can be used
    Whether SC Admins can detach paghes (unghost) pages from the site template
    Whether SC Admins can customise page layouts and master pages
    Whether SC Admins can view the URL structure of thier site

  • Master page objects misbehaving

    I'm working on a booklet for my company, and have run into quite an annoying and baffling problem. I'm using master pages for the templated parts of the layout, and am trying to edit what I've designated as the section heading for each page. On the left page, this works swimmingly:
    However, on the right page, it instead selects the object beneath the text box that I want to select:
    Yes, I am clicking directly on the text box - to no avail.
    Any idea how to fix this?

    You cannot just click on a master page object to select it on the document page. You must Cmd (Ctrl) + Shift click to override it first. If you did that to the wrong frame, it wound up in front of the one remaining on the master page, effectively hiding it from you. Remove the selected override for that object.

  • CS4 auto page insert: master page frame or not

    In CS4 the preferences for auto page insert allow to turn off 'limit to master pages'.
    However, don't see much difference wether it is on or off. The Help file states that if you do NOT use master text frames, a new textframe should be inserted, one column between the margins.
    Can not get this to work when limit to master pages is off. What am I misreading...?
    (It is funny sometimes: I have 'delete empty pages' checked (it is on). Now make a document 3 pages long. OK, now draw a empty text frame on page one. Do the same on page 2.
    Now connect both text frames: page 2 disappears. This is to be expected but be aware of this.
    Now insert text in the textframe on page one that does not fit totally in this textframe: overset symbol appears.
    Now where is page 2 that was 'auto deleted' and had the threaded text frame?
    Nope, it does NOT appear again!
    I admit I still have to get to grip with this, so what DOES the switch 'limit to master pages' on/off have for effect...)

    Yes, I know. But maybe my point came over the wrong way. If you have auto page delete on, you have three pages and a textframe that spans page 1 and 2, but not yet text in it, and you connect the empty text frames, page 2 will disappear. Now fill page one with overset, page 2 won't do anything because it needs two pages.
    Disable auto page delete and it will work.
    Just wondering why it was designed this way, that's all ;-)

  • Changing Master Page in Project server 2013

    hi,
    Can any one help me how to change the project server 2013 master page ?

    Hello,
    Yes i want to modify the master page for  Project Web Access . i want to change master page for
    all application page in pwa. i did this successfully  in Porject serevr 2010 by modifying V4.master page. i approached the same way

  • Override/Hide Master Page Footer?

    I am working on my work's SharePoint subsite. The site inherits its master formatting from the main site's master page, and I have no access to the master page whatsoever. If it matters, I also do not have access to SharePoint Designer.
    The master page provides a footer with a "Contact Us" link, and if possible, I would like to hide this footer because the contact info for the subsite differs from that of the parent site. Is there a way to do this with CSS/content editor/etc.
    without editing the master page? (There is no option to create a new master page, either).
    Thank you!

    Thanks again for the fast reply. Yes, I did replace "FooterTitle" however, since I'm still getting familiar with CSS, I could have put the wrong thing for the div title. These are the titles I'm working with:
    <footer id="v5-footer" class="s4-notdlg" role="contentinfo">
    <div id="footer-left" class="s4-socialdata-notif" > </div>
    <div id="footer-middle"> </div>
    <div id="footer-right" class="style1" > </div>
    </footer>
    I tried the footer ID as well as the 2 div IDs. The only time anything seems to happen is when I used the class "s4-notdlg" but then all elements from the master page are hidden rather than just the footer. The “Contact Us” info is listed within the footer-middle
    div. This is what I have been putting (and changing it around to see if any of the IDs might work):
    <style type="text/css">
    .footer-middle
    visibility:hidden
    </style>

  • Master page mapping & two-level running headers

    Using running headers for two or more levels is probably an age-old problem both in Framemaker and Word. I wonder if anyone has a solution that works with master page mapping.
    To elaborate a bit, I have a number of documents with a typical chapter structure like this:
    1
    1.1
    1.2
    1.3
    2
    3
    4
    4.1
    4.2
    When I use a running header that references both first-level (H1) and second-level headings (H2), the previous second-level heading is carried over to the next first-level section. For example, H2 from section 1.3 is carried over to the running header of sections 2 and 3, as there is no new H2.
    The obvious solution is to apply a different master page to sections that have no second-level heading.
    However, I failed to find master page mapping rules that would give me the intended result: When I use a master page mapping rule for H1 paratags ("use a master page with a running header for H1 only, until changed"), it doesn't consider if there is a H2 paratag on the same page. In conjunction with a mapping rule for H2 paratags, the second-level running header would start at the second subsection of every first-level section, i.e. 1.2 or 4.2, leaving 1.1 and 4.1 with a different header (which is a trade-off, but not too nice).
    Do you know of any solution or workaround (preferably without using FrameScript)?
    Thanks in advance for any helpful comments.

    JohannesKrueger wrote:
    Good news, I think found a workaround myself. (The solution is similar to what I did in Word.)
    My "magic" building block for the second-level running header is
    <$paratext[+,H2,#EmptyPara]>
    The "+" argument tells FrameMaker to look for the specified paratags from the bottom of the page upwards. If there is no H2, it displays the content of #EmptyPara instead. Now one only has to make sure that there is an empty paragraph with paratag #EmptyPara after the heading of every first-level section that has no subsections.
    If you like to share your solution, I'd still be interested.
    Johannes
    Hi, Johannes:
    I haven't used Word in ages, so I wasn't aware it had become this smart!
    Your solution is good use of existing FrameMaker capability. I don't have any better solution to contribute.
    If the blank paragraphs cause inter-paragraph spacing problems, you might want to create a new paragraph format, "H2_NoSub," for headings that have no subsections, and make it a run-in, so that it pulls the #EmptyPara onto its own line, hence, there's no effect on text flow.
    Yes, you'd need to adjust running header definitions, and TOC included paragraph definitions to deal with the new paragraph format. Just a suggestion.

  • Can't select Master Page object on document page.

    Hi,
    Yes, I know this question has been asked a million times. But, it's just not working for me. I've got a simple green box at the bottom right of my master page. I've made it into a button. I've allowed the master page to overwrite. But, on my document pages I simply cannot select this object. I've made the object into a button, per the master page, and, I need to have it link from each page back to a previous page in the document. Yes, I've tried Cmd + Shift, then click on the object, but, that doesn't work.
    My button shares space with a page text box. Those are the only objects on the page, though. If I move the text box up, then yes, I can select the button. But, that's cheating.
    Thanks a lot for any help.

    What do you mean shares space with? Is it on top of the button?
    If so, try locking it the text frame..

  • Photoshop CS4, Fireworks CS4, States, & Master Pages

    I am opening a Photoshop PSD file that my client sent to me, I believe it is Photoshop CS3, in Fireworks. I see all the layers as individual states and was wondering is there any way to combine select states into one state so I can make it into a Master Page? Or just to combine two or more states into one to make it easier to deal with?
    Also, whenever I open a state I am not seeing my Master Page, just what is in that state. I thought I was supposed to see all the Master Page attributes on all the states once I've set it?
    Some of the Photoshop files he sent me have up to 95 states!!
    Thanks,
    Robin

    Ideally, yes, unless it's going to take you forever to make the conversion. If it is, do it the Photoshop way by turning layers on and off and exporting the visible elements (now that's a smooth workflow  :-P)  Web Designs as PS files is one of the reasons I dread opening them. I once received a file that had 8 layers for a single form check box. UGH.  HTH
