Master Pages don't transfer when I change page size in a book

I had exactly the same problem in CS4, which is why I switched to CS5.5 -- but apparently nothing has changed.
I have a book of about 30 chapters.  It was originally set up in 6x9 format, but after it was all formatted, my client decided he wanted the pages 5x8.
It should be easy, right?  Just change the layout for the master pages of the Style Source document, fix the text sizing, etc.  Then in each ensuing chapter, just download the new masters from the style source document.  When I get a warning asking me if the master pages in the target document should be overwritten, I say yes and it does its thing.
Only it doesn't work.  Oh, the text in the masters is all over the place, which is to be expected -- but the master pages and the book pages are still 6x9, not 5x8.
I tried synchronizing the book, being careful that Master Pages is checked in the options.  I got a warning that some of the text would need to be fixed.  No problem.  Except that the pages in all the documents except the Style Source are still 6x9!!
I have a feeling I've wasted my money on the upgrade.  A lot of bells and whistles have been added, but the CS4 problems aren't solved.
Please, can somebody help?  I do this for a living, and I'm wasting waaaaaay too much time trying to clean up messes like these.

No, Peter, I never solved it.  But thank you for asking!
I finally started a whole new book, with the smaller master pages.  I saved a few blank pages for each chapter file, then I copied and pasted the text of each chapter onto the new pages.  Fortunately I was able to transfer paragraph and character styles to the new document, and the formatting of the copied text transferred also.
But it was still a lot of work.
I don't even want to think about trying to design a document with different size pages!

  • How can I make my content follow my master when master page size is changed?

I have a header with a menu structure etc. that is set as a master page. When I create a new page and apply the master to this page, everything looks fine. I will then start designing the rest of the page. However, if my master page should change size, the content of the page it is applied to will not move accordingly. What am I doing wrong?
I'll try explaining it with an example:
Say my header on my master page is originally 250px in height, and I design all the pages using this master, but then decide that my header needs to increase to 300 px in height. Then my master header will just be laid OVER the content of the page. Isn't there a way to make the content under the header move automatically when the master size is changed?
Also, it really should be possible to add more than one master to a page.

The correct master is applied, but I can't get it to work. Am I doing something wrong with the guides?
I have included screenshots that show how the master looks, how the page with the master looks, and what happens when I change the size of the master page.
    Master:
    Page with applied master
Content doesn't move when master page changes size
Please let me know what I'm doing wrong!

When I change paper sizes on my Canon 9000 mark II, I have been getting odd colors on some size paper settings.Paper type and other settings are the same.I did try to download new driver when this started to occur. However, I deleted the new driver and reinstalled the old print driver. The problem has not gone away.

The printer only does what it is told.  Barring a malfunction, that is.  So, I would look else where.  Your photo editor?

How can I change the size of a book and use the layout that I have already chosen (I accidently laid the book out for a larger size book than what I acctually wanted)?

Just in case of problems duplicate the book (select it and edit ==> duplicate or Command=D) and then click on themes and select the same theme in theprper size - verify that everything worked (sometime different sized text blocks cause minor problems that require attention) and preview it -
Before ordering your book preview it using this method - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1040 - and save the resulting PDF for reference - the delivered book will match it.

  • Master page size conflict? Can't figure out what's wrong...

    Hi community,
I posted this ticket earlier, but I think I should post it in English, for a larger audience...
    So here's the story :
I got a really odd issue while moving (or adding) pages...
    Here's a very basic layout :
Now, lets place page 2 after page 3. Here's the result :
As you can see, pages don't seem to relate properly to master pages.
    I can't figure out why...
If I apply masters onto my pages, InDesign says there's a size conflict.
Assuming I would apply again my master, ID will replace elements at the right place for now, but doesn't solve the problem at all.
    Any idea ??
Here's a download link for this document :
    http://dl.free.fr/lPfXwwajm
Please note, I'm working with InDesign CS6 (8.0.2 version)
Thanks a lot for your help!

    Hi Willy.
I didn't use the page tool (I never do), but it's a collaborative project, so I can't be sure nobody did.
As you might have guessed, the attached Indd file is not the real file: I did remove all styles, variants, blocks,... everything from the original project to reduce it to a very basic template...
If I create a document from scratch, obviously there is no problem. If I don't find the solution, I will recreate the document from scratch, but you'll understand I'd like to avoid spending my time that way...
    So...
I tried changing the orientation from document setup and crtl-z... didn't do the trick!
Now, here are more information for a better understanding:
The original project was landscape orientated (A4).
I had to adapt it to a portrait orientation version (still A4). Please note I didn't use the page tool. Obviously, something got wrong there and did create the problem...
Now, if I right-click my page panel and set its view "by variant", the name of the (unique) variant is the same than the original project, even though it has a different orientation.
The strange thing is that the name is a personalized one (it should have been "A4 H"). Why is that? I dunno... Why (anf who did?) change the name of the "variant" is a mystery... But I guess this could be a clue...
Well... still stuck on this puzzler...
Thanks all for your help anyway...

  • Master pages working with the books panel

    Hi everyone,
I'm starting a book which will have about 20 chapters in it. I'm using the books panel to work with it all but I'm not sure how to handle the master pages so that they'll work across all chapters within the books panel. I have a 2-page master spread set up with both of the pages having automatic numbering and the left hand spread with the name of the publication. The right hand spread will have the chapter name and this will be the only element that will change from chapter to chapter.
So I wondered if there was a way to set it up so that all the chapters were based on this master page. I'd then need to change each of the chapter headings for each chapter but then if I needed to make a change to the left master page, ie. with the publication name on it, is there a way to make this change on just one of the chapters and then all the other chapters would update to reflect the change.
    Appreciate any advice.

Normally I would say make a second master page for the chapter start nad use that, then include the master pages when synchronizing the book, but there's another thread from yesterday where that is not working for the user, and I'm still trying to figure out why.

  • Drop in layers visual quality when I change comps size -WHAT???

Hi there! So check this out. I import a progressive frame quicktime movie into AE, drag it to the new comp button in the project window and a new comp is created matching the specs of the source material.
But as soon as I change the size - width and height - of the comp in the composition settings window, the visual quality of the quicktime in the comp degrades dramatically. it's like someone dropped a fast blur on it with a value of around .5 or 1. Any ideas on what the heck is happening?
    working on a 2 x 3 GHz Quad-Core Intel Mac running 10.4.11
    9 GB 667 MHz DDR2 ram
Radeon X1900 w/512 MB video ram
    1 TB raid
After Effects CS3 Professional vs 8.0.2.27
    Quicktime 7.4.5

    David & Mylenium,
I should have been more specific. Sorry. This is what's happening. The source is a 1920 x 1080 sq. pixel Apple ProRes 422 quicktime. I bring the footage into AE, key it and then prerender it.
Then I create a new comp (by dragging the footage to the new comp button) based on this prerendered footage. I do any compositing/etc i need to and then I take this final comp and render a master quicktime. Finally, I wait for my designers to tell me what size dimensionally they want the video to be ( it goes to FLV).
Once I get this info, I create a new comp one of 2 ways....
    1. I drag the master quicktime to the new comp button, it makes a new comp (everything still looking fine) and then I change the dimensions of the comp to fit the designers request. As soon as I change the dimensions of the comp - the video looks like garbage. it looks like it's been slightly blurred - before and after I've scaled it down to fit the new size of the comp.
    2. Sometimes I create a new comp with the dimensions the designers requested and then drag the master quicktime into it. Same thing. Blurred/bad footage before and after scaling to fit.
What in the heck is going on? Is there some strange ratio between height and width AE has to have? My footage is SQ PIX so... what the heck?
So David, when you ask if my footage is scaling to match the new comp size, the answer is no. If my footage is 1920x1080 and the final comp size is 400x340, I scale the video down so that all the action/movement of the actors fits into this size.
Mylenium, my footage and comps are SQ PIX and its the same with both OpenGL on and off. As far as for the codec, I see this with my original codecs - both DVCPro-HD and Apple Prores 1920x1080. I also see it happen with the prerendered qt's that have animations codecs.
I'm sorry for the long post guys. It's just been thoroughly frustrating. This footage should stay sharp. Sometimes it does. Sometimes it doesn't. It's very strange. I've trashed prefs, reinstalled, retraced my steps and found nothing.
Time to pull my hair out. But thanks for your responses though!!

  • What is happening when I change the size of the image in the program sequence window?

I noticed that I can change the image size of my exported file. I imported a 720 x 480 DV file into CS5.5. I went to my program sequence window and changed the settings to show the smallest image in that window. I then clicked on the image and used the handles that appear to make that small image large enough to nearly fill the screen. When I exported my final file and played the resulting WMV, the image on my screen was nearly twice as large as it would have been if I had not previously altered the image size in the program sequence window. I had to do this alteration for each clip in my timeline, or the unaltered ones would stay at the smaller size. The quality did not seem to be significantly impaired. I learned about this on a youtube video. The person who did the video claimed that this was a simple and quick way to upgrade standard video to HD. Of course this is not true. He was only changing the size of the resulting video. Does anyone know what is really happing when you do this procedure and why it changes the size of the exported  video?

The size (resolution) of the exported video is not affected by anything you do while editing.  It is dependant solely on the resolution set in the export settings.
Ideally you want to edit in an sequence that matches your media\, which will be the same size or larger than the required export.  In other words, the same or smaller is OK.  Making things bigger in post is not the best option.  If you need things bigger, shoot them bigger.

  • Actual page size for large books?

Forgive me if this particular info appears in one of the forums, but I've searched and searched to no avail. I want to put together a book, and want to lay out the pages myself using the full bleed option in iPhoto. At 300dpi, what is the actual print size of the pages for the various books?
    Thanks in advance!
    -andrew

Just try one, you will see quickly when you are laying it out what happens on a one-per-page when you select the entire page option. It is pretty simple. Even if the photo is not the right ratio of height to width, it gets there, if it not what you want, crop it to 4:3 first.

  • Can you change the size of a book from ITunes

I have noticed booksthat I download from iTunes are very large 190 to 250mb. I usually purchase and download from Audible.com their book sizes are much smaller 15 to 25mb.  My question is, is there anyway to control the size of a book from iTunes?
I am using Mac book Pro
    Lion OS
    iTunes 10.5
    iPhone 4 ios5.0

    Hi
As far as I know - NO not possibly in iMovie
    You need either to
    • Export out as QuickTime movie - and in QuickTime Pro change size then re-import - or -
    • Do the job in FinalCut - where this is easy and straight forward ( BUT FINALCUT in it self can be tough to LEARN - rather steet learning curve - but when into it Very rewarding )

  • Changing Font Size in Address Book 6.1

This seems like such a basic question to ask but I can't figure it out: How can I change the font size in Addres Book 6.1? There no longer seems to be a way to do this in Address Book Preferences.

  • CS5.5 (PS 5.1) Rulers don't update when zoom changes.

When the current image (docked or floating) is zoomed to a different percentage, the rulers don't change to the new setting.
If the image is in a floating window, dragging one edge will refresh the rulers. If the image is docked on the tab bar, the quickest way to force a refresh I've found so far is to drag the ruler origin to an arbitrary location, and then double-click the origin (in the rulers) to snap it back to the image's origin.
This problem could cause quite a lot of trouble for anyone building pixel-accurate images.
If this is not happening for others using Photoshop 12.1 x64 on Win7, I'd like to hear about it, because it could be related to video cards or other variables.
    Allen

Animated zoom is when, on a single click and release, the image changes size smoothly from the original to the new zoom level - i.e., it appears to grow in size.  Non-animated zoom just jumps immediately to the new zoom level.  It is this jumping behavior we're seeking here.
I have never seen a case where Animated Zoom is disabled and you can still see the smooth size change, which is apparently what you're describing.  You did close and reopen Photoshop after changing this value, right?

  • All of a sudden, I'm getting an error that says I can't open my current iPhoto library using this version of iPhoto. Then it tells me to use the latest version. But I don't know how and I don't know when it changed....

I cannot open iPhoto. The error reads: "You can't open your current iPhoto library using this version of iPhoto.
You have made changes to your photo library using a newer version of iPhoto. Please quit and use the latest version."
But, I don't ever recall doing that, and I need to access my iPhoto. Anyone help?

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

  • Is it true that compound clips don't transfer when organizing, consolidating, or duplicating projects?

I've been stymied trying to duplicate projects with used media.  My compound clips lose their connections much of the time.  To be fair, I use compound clips that I made before 10.6 and after 10.6. Maybe that's the issue?  Either way, I thinking I'm doing everything by the book -- organizing and consolidating event media, consolidationg project media, then duplicating, then organizing again just to be sure.  But my compound clips connections are getting lost.  I am confused about all of these organizing and consolidating choices and would love to get the dope on how to do this in a fool proof way. That is if there isn't a bug with the compound clip transferring -- which I read on FCP.CO.  Thanks for any advice.

I've got a project on my Thunderbolt drive that references 3 events:
My aim is to move this project to another disk with only the used clips, including compound and multicam clips.  So I click on the project and pick duplicate project with used clips and select a different drive.
(I've tried consolidating and organizing these events and projects before this step but I always get the messages that the media is all in the same location.)
When the project duplicates, I find that it still references clips on the original drive:
So I go to modify the event references and drag the event that I want to reference (in this case the one on the Macintosh HD) to the top of the list, as such:
When I click OK, however, the event on my Mac HD does not really stay at the top of the list, and my info pannel shows that the project is still referencing multiple events in multiple locations.  When I reopen the modify events window, the event references are not in the order I tried to set them at in the previous step:
I can repeat this process over and over and still get random and incorrect results.
The big issue is that if I look at the event that I tried to duplicate the used media to, the compound clips are all referencing their original events still.  If I disconnect the drive with those original events, I get the missing media icon in my event and my project.
If I reconnect the drive and try to organize event files or consolidate or organize project files, my compound clips still reference media from the other drives.
I believe I've tried performing nearly every sequence of consolidating, organizing, duplicating, etc that I've read about -- not just the sequence above.  And I never get reliable results with compound clips.
I would love a review of the exact sequence of events I should follow to successfully archive a project on a separate drive with only used media, including compound clips.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks!
