Master password dialog inconsistent after update

After the latest update (v12.0), the master password dialog box is no longer come up immediately on visiting a password enabled site (like gmail). It now seems to pop up randomly -- sometimes appearing AFTER visiting one or two PW enabled sites, sometimes not until after 3 or 4. I have changed nothing in my configuration.

Dude, opening a site is not the issue. It's the '''master password''' dialog that doesn't always pop-up like it's supposed to even when opening a site with a stored password. I think it's a bug in Firefox 12.

  • Incorrect FileVault Password on login after update from OS X 10.7.4 to 10.7.5

Today I encountered a minor bug in the update to OS X 10.7.5, found the solution and thought it might be helpful to others:
After updating my MacMini 2007 (running OS X 10.7.4, with Server services active) to OS X 10.7.5,
the machine did its normal-post-update restart routine.
When prompted for the FileVault 2 password, the password I entered was incorrect. I tried several times without success.
Then I entered the password using the keys of the US-keyboard layout instead of my the german keyboard layout that I actually have.
    Success.
I live in germany, use a german keyboard, BUT have my system language in english. No clue if that's what confused OS X.
Bad thing is that there is no indication whatsoever to make you aware of it, no country flag in the corner, no regular text field where you can see what you type.
Anyway, it was only for the first restart, after that it was back to normal.
    Already posted an Apple Feedback.
Maybe this post helps some people with the same problem.
One more thing, the same happened here with the 10.7.4 Install ESD starting from external drive, when I tried to unlock my internal disk via Disk Utility. The password dialog sets the input source ALWAYS to US-keyboard layout, and on the top left corner it can't be changed... a bit annoying when you have millions of special characters in your disk password. But at least its shown in the top right corner... thats why I figured out the problem with my password after the update to 10.7.5, otherwise I would have been quite clueless and probably ended up erasing the whole disk.
    Cheers everyone!

    Hi!
    Thank you for posting this!
    I can verify this issue.
Search for "us keyboard layout" and you can bring up a picture that will help you find special characters.

  • Master Password dialog is delayed

In FF 368 when I open I am not interrogated for my MP immediately ... but I'd like to be. Instead, the dialog box prompting me to enter my MP appears at random delays of 30sec to 5min, and unexpectedly so: often I'm entering text or data and end up entering inadvertently into the MP dialog. How can I get FF to ask for my Master Password promptly?
My build is 368 but this occurs in many builds.

    Wow. You nailed it...Whump!
And it seemed a weird behavior to me... like a bug. And sure enough the clever developer of this extension explains:
"This extension was originally created as a workaround for bug #177175....."

  • Master password still required after using: chrome://pippki/content/resetpassword.xul

I'm asked on a fairly regular basis for my master password, except I don't recall having set one up. I've completed the steps outlined in: chrome://pippki/content/resetpassword.xul. Preferences show no tick mark for master password, but I am being asked for it just the same.

If using the chrome url (chrome://pippki/content/resetpassword.xul) doesn't work then delete [http://kb.mozillazine.org/key3.db key3.db] and signons.sqlite (Firefox 3.5) and all signons#.txt files (if any exist, Firefox 3.0 uses signons3.txt) in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Profile_Folder].

  • Master Password prompt gone after deinstalling KeeFox

I recently installed KeePass & KeeFox but eventually ended up deinstalling them.
Ever since, if I go to a website that had the AutoFill feature before, the Master Password prompt won't show up anymore. Is there anyway to make it show up again if I visit a site with a password field and a saved password?

  • Password not recognized after updating iTunes

I just updated iTunes and now it doesn't recognize my password. Do I have to start another account?

If you start another account--you may have trouble playing things you already bought. Can you contact the store and have them reset your password? You can use the email links inside the store when you click on support.

  • How do I restore saved passwords that disappeared after update of Firefox?

This is on an Acer laptop running Win 7 home premium

Do you mean names and passwords in the Password Manager or do you mean that you are no longer logged on to (remembered by) websites after closing and restarting Firefox?
*Tools > Options > Security: Passwords: "Saved Passwords" > "Show Passwords"
There is a difference between remembering the name and password in the Password Manager and a "remember me" check box on a web page to log you in automatically.
The latter usually involves the creation of a special "remember me" cookie that is stored on your computer and that is send to the server.
If this "remember me" cookie is removed or gets corrupted or is not send to the server then the server won't remember you and you will have to sign in once again.
You can remove this "remember me" cookie to make the website forget you and require you to sign in again.
    Did you possibly reset/refresh Firefox?
When you reset Firefox then a new profile is created and some personal data (bookmarks, history, cookies, passwords, form data) is automatically imported and the current profile folder will be moved to the desktop to an "Old Firefox Data" folder.
Installed extensions and other customizations (toolbars, prefs) that you have made are lost and need to be redone.
It is possible to recover data from the old profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over problems.

  • How do I stop a new dialog from coming up while I enter my master password?

When I first enter a webpage with a password on file Firefox prompts me for the master password. I have been having repeated difficulties with a new master password dialog opening up and taking the focus before I have finished entering the password.
Now that I know what is going on I can cancel the new dialog and finish my entry, but it is
    really annoying and distracting.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    FRED.

Asking someone to disable their master password is lame. Thats not a solution.

  • Remnants of bookmark lists remain on screen; also Master Password issue

    Problem #1:
    1. Display a long (vertically or horizontally) bookmark list from the Bookmarks menu, the Bookmarks button or the Bookmarks toolbar.
    2. If the menu extends past the Firefox window and onto the desktop picture, when closing the menu the section of the list that extends onto the desktop picture remains on the desktop --- it doesn't disappear with the rest of the bookmark list.
This has only started happening since the last Firefox update.
My sys specs are below. This may be important: I am not using an Aero theme in WIN 7 SP1.
    Problem #2
In previous revisions of Firefox when using the Master Password security function, the dialog requesting the password would appear the first time I visited a site where a login is required. And it would appear only once in a Firefox session. Something changed since Firefox 5 because now the Master Password dialog seems to also appear randomly during a Firefox session which is annoying.
But the main problem is that if I have a bookmarks list open when the Master Password dialog appears it sometimes causes Firefox to freeze completely. I've had to use Task Manager at times to quit Firefox because there's no other way to continue with the program once the freeze occurs.
Note: both of these issues were seen in Firefox 5. Firefox 6 is now released and the issues are still present.

It depends, I mean if iChat already works with no problems; then no I wouldn't worry about it. From my take on it, if you have to port to fix things then it's an ISP problem but that's do to being stuck behind a firewall. The ISP does this to prevent viruses and what not infecting there systems. All porting does is allow your apps to reach the "internet" with out the ISP's firewall hindering you. In the end if you have the time to port in my opinion it will only benefit you for the long run, incase your ISP decides there going to change there firewall up. I have to port because of my ISP's firewall blocks all sorts of traffic coming from my computer. So it does help in my case cause now iChat works flawlessly, WoW can now download updates in an hour or two versus a whole day. I can download stuff faster because some ports my ISP "chokes" and I have ported these apps to avoid the ports being choked or blocked. porting really isn't that difficult to do but it can get time consuming loading ports and addressing those ports to go to your main computer where those apps you want to use reside. Finally it should work with airport extreme or Express as I use both on top with my ISP's router so I have a dual router setup and I stream music to my Express and it all works flawlessly. I am here if you need more help and if you can chat on iChat and need assistance then I can try and help you through that, just let me know I am at [email protected]
but do check out www.portforward.com they have lots of guides and instruction on how networks work and why you should forward your ports.

  • Master password, who are you and who asks for it ?

Today I wonder about Master Password in my Firefox 15.0 - I have enable it since long long time.
When I visit bookmarked site with stored user name and password the site ask me about master password but there is no information about name site which ask for it in dialog box. Everything work fine with one opened site but if I opening many tabs? I don`t now who ask about for it. Can i configuring my Firefox browser to do it more talking about it?

Unfortunately you can't make the Master Password dialog show more information by configuring Firefox. I also couldn't find any extension for it. However, there is an extension that asks you for your master password at browser start so it's not that annoying during your browser session.
    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/master-password
    Hope this helps.

  • My lock screen just shows a black background and a User Name/Password dialog after opening the screen from sleep. How do I get it back to where it blurs my desktop image with the dialog and my account image displayed?

I'm not sure when it began, but now my Macbook Air only shows a black background and a User Name and Password dialog box when I wake it from sleep. It used to show my desktop background blurred with my user name and icon displayed with only a text field for entering my password. I'm currently using Yosemite (OS X 10.10.1) and all updates have been done. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated as I know this isn't a real problem, just an annoyance since I couldn't find how to change it back in the System Preferences.

I just have to point out that after looking at a related post (https://discussions.apple.com/message/22661092#22661092), it brought to memory that my issue most certainly began happening after I added some DoD certificates to the keychain. This obviously has something to do with it, but it still leaves me wondering what actually causes this to happen. :/

  • After Maverick install, keychain refuses master password

After upgrading Mac Mini (late 2012) to Maverick, I am unable to get anywhere as a series of apps request password access and none accept my master password, even iCloud refuses my AppleID password. Request dialog remains on top and Safari will not open. System Preference (trying to get to iCloud) hangs. Mail unable to retrieve any accounts; says passwords not valid.
Any tips or direction to documentation to repair this would be greatly appreciated as I am unable to do anything with my Mac.

I have followed the link everything is ok until I get to step:
Authenticate with your account login password
It will not let me no password I know of will work.

Ok 1st one. The warning restriction message relates to this line in main.cf:
    smtpd_helo_restrictions = permit_sasl_authenticated  permit_mynetworks  check_helo_access hash:/etc/postfix/helo_access  reject_non_fqdn_hostname  reject_invalid_hostname  permit reject_invalid_helo_hostname
The last reject occurs after the single word "permit" and is ignored.
    However, that's not the problem.
I'm not exactly sure what's happening, but this might be a clue.
It would appear that either postfix is not being able to create the socket for private/policy or it's somehow created with the wrong permissions.  You might need to ramp up the debug level to get a better idea.
You could check if it's being created by "netstat -a | grep private/policy" in terminal.
My guess is that it's not being created because there is no setup statement in your master.cf file, but I don't understand why postfix would be looking for it if it isn't set up.  Private/policy I think relates to grey listing.  Maybe gives you a hint.
